July 2026 Mounjaro starters

BritbirdUK · 28/06/2026 11:49

I started my mounjaro journey this weekend (Friday) but thought I would start a July thread as it is so close to the start of the new month.

My background - I love good food. My issue isn't necessary that I eat the wrong stuff it is just that I eat too much. I enjoy nice restaurants, Michelin stars and cooking from scratch. But my portion control is terrible. I overeat, regret it and can't leave food on my plate. I also run a food and drink related business. And I make excuses.

In the past I have lost large amounts of weight but this time I have struggled. Peri menopause, going through an adult ADHD diagnosis, a herniated disc (twice) and running your own small business isn't always conducive to WL. I was approved last year for Mounjaro via my GP and then, after my appointment, there were changes and it was pulled. It set me back massively and then, after some big bills at work, I just didn't feel like I could justify the costs and tried, but failed, to lose weight just by dieting.

Recently I went back to my GP and they did some tests and after a few different appointments I was fortunate enough to be approved again and given a prescription last week. I had my first jab on Friday and am determined to make a difference, change my mindset and get back to enjoying life again. There is a long way to go but I am taking one day at a time.

Hopefully there will be some other July starters here and we can support each other, share tips etc.

I know what you mean. I CAN lose weight without MJ, but never easily and never without significant willpower which fluctuates depending on work stress. I can lose a stone in 3 months and put the whole lot back on in a couple of weeks.

Right now MJ is giving me the headspace to develop healthier habits. I'm walking, swimming, weight training and have just tentatively bought a new pair of running shoes, hopefully some of it will stick! Before I could either diet or up the exercise but I never managed both. This time, the friction in my brain is so much less I am managing both and hopefully retraining my brain!

Yes, you sound so similar to me and this is exactly what I’m hoping for - having the space to actually develop better eating and exercise habits / routines whilst eating less. I’m only 1 day and 1 jab in but I do feel less hungry and less cravings today (though I did sleep for 2 hours this pm as was knackered which am wondering if might be a side effect)

FishersGate · 01/08/2026 21:44

2nd injection yesterday some fullness but a creep of food noise today. Which is weird as the first jab last week made me feel so unwell for at least days.

Lost 2.5lbs but concerned already ut will go backwards with no elimination of the good noise the first week. Its not as bad but its been there today

2nd jab last night haven’t been super hungry again today but this evening I feel like I want to snack but just have no idea what I want like I’m hungry but the thought of anything puts me off has anyone else had the same? I know I’m not eating as much as I should really and am struggling with that, anyone have any ideas that worked for them?

I have felt like this today and 2nd jab yesterday

How often do you weigh? Well done, 9lbs loss is fantastic!

I am 13st 3lbs and 5ft 2
Have just done my 3rd jab this evening so hoping for more good results this week (will be harder as on AL!)

Clearly didnt read this properly! I am 'offically' weighing myself and recording it on the morning of my jab day but I am stepping on the scales midweek too :)

missedtherainbow · 02/08/2026 07:53

i will be having my 5th jab of 2.5 this evening, just weighing in

SW: 18.1stone
W1: 17.3stone
W2: 17 stone
W3: 16.11stone
CW: 16.9 stone

Im feeling a little down as to how long it’s going to take me to get down to my goal weight but I really have completely changed the way I eat and have started daily regular exercise this last week (I’m hoping that will show on the scales next week or the week after)
Im tracking my calories properly, getting 50-60g protein a day (that’s a huge change for me, I was living of crisps, chocolate and other junk before) drinking 3 litres of water a day and taking vitamins.
Small aims to keep me going (well not that small) - by the end of August I will reach the first 2 stone mark!
I am feeling a lot better in myself, not so tired or irritable. Just got to keep plodding on!

CatMonj · 02/08/2026 08:05

@missedtherainbow That's 1.5 stone off basically in 4 weeks, that's incredible! I really don't think you want to be losing any quicker then that. Are you really disappointed with that rate? You've got this and are doing really well.

That’s amazing! Well done. 🙌

The new healthy habits will be what keeps it off! As others have said, MJ allows us space without food noise to create habits that work for us!

MammaGnomes · 02/08/2026 08:15

@Flobberworm99 I managed to get a 5th dose out of mine by forcing the pen round to 1. I did struggle at first but realised I needed a better grip of the pen so grabbed some socks (nearest thing to me ha ha) and used them. Once I had a better grip it went round easily. There was still a tiny bit left afterwards so was definitely a full dose.

Squiggle13 · 02/08/2026 08:17

3rd jab this evening.

2nd week was so much better for side effects, no dodgy belly, which I was dreading. I will say I’ve felt a bit more snacky, but I’ve not felt well this week (unrelated) so hadn’t planned my meals as well, so I think I was just genuinely hungry.

3.5lb off this week though so happy with that!

SW: 14st 5.5lbs
W1: 14st
W2: 13st 10.5lbs

9lb loss

My goal was at least a stone before our October holiday! Not really sure what my ideal goal weight is, 11st 9 gets me into “overweight” for me height. I just can’t imagine being under 10 stone for healthy weight, but will just see how I get on.

Going to order another 2.5mg this month I think. I haven’t done any exercise yet, hoping to add some walks in soon.

Thanks @JuicyPie i may do the same! Enjoy your annual leave x

anyone else having really vivid dreams/nightmares and feeling wiped? I am just exhausted. That said, work has been awful for months and I feel like perhaps I am suffering burnout from that

Going to try to force a protein shake this morning but really not hungry. That said, I’m not usually much of a breakfast person anyway. Home made coronation chicken sandwich for lunch - know not ideal but it’s home made bread too (we do a lot of cooking from scratch in this house) and I’ll have a much smaller portion of filling than normal.

home made pizza for tea - husband makes own dough and tomato sauce. Again, we’d normally have one each followed by pudding. Instead we will share one and DH can have some chips.

lots of blackberries from the garden for pudding and I have also declined the American pancakes he’s made the kids for breakfast

Food is a massive source of joy in our relationship and I don’t want the next however many months to be miserable because I’m dieting so am trying to compromise with smaller portions, cutting pudding and no snacking

i had intended to go for an hours walk this morning but was so wiped I didn’t get up. Will take kids (5 & 7) to park today then to a kids museum place and probably play in the blow up pool in garden this arvo as quite hot

whsts everyone else up to today?

I am tempted to try this. Are there any videos online showing how to do this?

DaringlyDizzy · 02/08/2026 09:09

Ive managed to eat more the last few days. Ive gone from not eating at all to small amounts and now weirdly panicking.

Friday was me neices 3rd birthday party. For breakfast I had a protein shake and then nothing all day as was so busy with prep. Dinner was small portion rice (10 mouthfuls), two roasted drum sticks and 4 mouthfuls of noodles. Slice of bday cake.

Yesterday had chicken soup for lunch (home made, no noodles, loads of veg) and then went to my friends with dinner. Had a small portion of lasagne (kids portion) with a huge side salad and two home made chicken spring rolls. However had 7 cups of tea and one mini roll. Calorie wise it was 1250 but feel like I ate so will pile the pounds on!

Hoping to have some better habits today

I didn’t look for any to be fair. Once you get the dial to turn it’s the same as you would do for every dose. The tricky bit is getting the dial to turn. I had one sock over the dial and another on the actual pen. It helped me grip the pen better whilst I forced the dial round.

Just completed my 5th week and due to take jab 6 this evening. After no loss last week, I’m pleased with 3lbs off this week. My total loss so far is 13lbs and only another 4lbs to go before moving from obese to overweight.

I tried my first Indian takeaway on Friday evening, not without some trepidation! I thought I should see how it goes before our trip north next week for a family celebration. This will no doubt involve lots of eating and meals out. I had a Biryani with no sauce or extras and ate about a third of my usual portion. In hindsight, possibly could have been a disaster as I was working next day, but thankfully all was fine.

Alcohol wise, I’m not a big drinker anyway but have occasionally enjoyed about a third of a glass of white wine topped up with soda. Very refreshing during this hot weather and one seems to be enough. A few weeks ago I did try a gin and tonic but couldn’t drink more than a few sips. It was a slimline tonic and tasted horribly sweet. Not sure if it was that or the gin but I’m certain it would have made me very sick had I continued.

Has anyone else found a way of managing meals out? I’ve read that Chinese food can be an issue but haven’t dared put it to the test yet.

missedtherainbow · 02/08/2026 13:14

CatMonj
Im not disappointed really just probably a reminder of how long it’s going to take me but I’ve never felt more committed and I’m feeling so much better already just eating healthy and moving more.
can’t believe the difference it’s made!

DaringlyDizzy · 02/08/2026 15:34

Can I ask what everyone is eating and for some recipe/meal ideas/inspiration? Struggling!

ReneBallard · 02/08/2026 15:39

@DaringlyDizzy i borrowed Protein in 15 from the library so going to try a few recipes from there

BatshitIsTheOnlyExplanation · 02/08/2026 15:45

We have an awful lot of courgettes at the moment! Evening meals I've had in the last week include:

  • stuffed courgettes (bolognaise filling, a bit of cheese on the top) with a slice of sourdough bread
  • lightly pan fried chicken thighs with ratatouille
  • turkey, mushroom and courgette pie with puff pastry topping, steamed vegetables and new potatoes
  • baked salmon with roasted vegetables
  • BBQ spicy chicken and a sausage with tomato, feta and basil salad

Aside from the courgette theme, is that any help? Are you struggling with food ideas or with eating it?

BatshitIsTheOnlyExplanation · 02/08/2026 15:47

I'm interested to hear what the Protein in 15 recipes are like. My dinners have been quite nice but I'm not hitting protein targets!

Cheesecake53 · 02/08/2026 15:48

@DaringlyDizzy for dinner I like fried chicken with cucumber, tomatoes, olives and mushrooms.

Breakfast is usually overnight oats with organic protein powder, milk and half an apple.

Lunch is 1/3rd of a lighter halloumi pack in a pan with carrots, onions and spinach together with wholewheat spaghetti.

Gets me about 100g protein and 20ish g fibre. But I am not consistent every day.

DaringlyDizzy · 02/08/2026 15:54

Thank you everyone, already liking a few of those! Will reserve protein in 15 also!

@BatshitIsTheOnlyExplanation I am struggling to eat at all. I can easily go 30 hours without a meal. I am a creature of variety though and thought maybe some meal inspo will trigger some hunger. Currently on 2mg and they really want me on 2.5mg but I gotta eat!

Margrethe · 02/08/2026 15:58

For breakfast, I made my own granola (lots of nuts and seeds, no sugar). I eat it on top of 2% Greek yogurt and fresh berries.

Omg I agree I would be over the moon to lose this much!! It’s hard though isn’t it when you don’t feel it’s coming off quickly enough but I really wouldn’t give yourself such a hard time!!
