July 2026 Mounjaro starters

BritbirdUK · 28/06/2026 11:49

I started my mounjaro journey this weekend (Friday) but thought I would start a July thread as it is so close to the start of the new month.

My background - I love good food. My issue isn't necessary that I eat the wrong stuff it is just that I eat too much. I enjoy nice restaurants, Michelin stars and cooking from scratch. But my portion control is terrible. I overeat, regret it and can't leave food on my plate. I also run a food and drink related business. And I make excuses.

In the past I have lost large amounts of weight but this time I have struggled. Peri menopause, going through an adult ADHD diagnosis, a herniated disc (twice) and running your own small business isn't always conducive to WL. I was approved last year for Mounjaro via my GP and then, after my appointment, there were changes and it was pulled. It set me back massively and then, after some big bills at work, I just didn't feel like I could justify the costs and tried, but failed, to lose weight just by dieting.

Recently I went back to my GP and they did some tests and after a few different appointments I was fortunate enough to be approved again and given a prescription last week. I had my first jab on Friday and am determined to make a difference, change my mindset and get back to enjoying life again. There is a long way to go but I am taking one day at a time.

Hopefully there will be some other July starters here and we can support each other, share tips etc.

I took my first jab of mounjaro yesterday, may I join you?

Looks like this is the place to be!!
Drink plenty and avoid constipation at all costs would be my number 1 tip

purplepie1 · 01/08/2026 07:48

Started yesterday morning after having the pen for a week. Thought it best to have the weekend for any side effects. Have a small portion of a Chinese takeaway last night. It sat in my stomach all night. Didn’t sleep well and heart rate was higher than expected. Could be Mounjaro but also could be anxiety.

50 and 14 stone. Would love to lose at least 2.5 stone.

JuicyPie · 01/08/2026 07:56

Morning

My second weight day and 4lbs lost so 9lbs total in 2 weeks, very happy but has made me realise how far I have to go! Pretty sure its all gone from the boobs but I also stopped breastfeeding so I was expecting them to shrink! Will jab this evening, definitely felt hungry yesterday but ate smaller meals so still some effect of the jab

AelinAG · 01/08/2026 09:34

Only half a pound off this week :( but my dose goes up tomorrow so maybe I’ll start to see a decent loss.

SW: 68.3kg
CW: 66.2kg
GW: 54 kg
I’m 5’1.

Was at a funeral yesterday and someone told me I’d lost weight so maybe it’d slightly visible.

I definitely think anxiety has something to do with it. I took first dose yesterday and didn’t sleep well either - I think I was worried about doing it just before bed and dying in the night - totally irrational of me.

i reckon you’ll sleep much better tonight. If you were going to have a severe reaction it’s probably likely you’d have had it by now.

good luck with your journey. 2 stone is definitely achievable.

How often do you weigh? Well done, 9lbs loss is fantastic!

Sounds like it’s definitely visible - well done!

Morning all

Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend so far.

First dose last night and didn’t sleep great, but think it was anxiety. That said, I had a bloody lovely dream I was dating that hot chap from The Mentalist!

Think I’m feeling very slightly nauseous but could of course be psychosomatic. Had run out of granola (which I’d been planning to have with high protein yoghurt and berries) so made a protein shake with high protein yog and mango.

Did weekly shop and bloody hell it was expensive. Trying to eat more protein definitely adds to the shopping bill but using these pens may actually make me eat better overall which can only be beneficial to my health right?

Has anyone had alcohol in their first couple of weeks? My GP said to avoid for the moment as he found that patients who got most nausea did so with alcohol but I do love my G&T’s and wine. DH said if we’re buying these pens then I should do it “properly” so not drink but we are headed to France end of August and I don’t want to miss out on lovely wine!

DH is going to take some photos today so I can see before and after.Am also going to record weight and measurements. Does anyone else do this or is it a bad idea? Just worried I’ll become despondent if I don’t see results.

Flobberworm99 · 01/08/2026 10:33

Morning all,

4th jab this morning and I've reordered 2.5mg again as I seem to get enough supression on this dose. My appetite is better but I am not overeating or reaching for snacks as the fullness lasts for ages. I am glad about this as I was stressing about being able to eat enough protein when I could barely stomach anything in the first couple of weeks.

Still no food noise and I just don't have a sweet tooth anymore. I was a real fiend for chocolate, biscuits and cakes.

There is quite a bit of the drug remaining in the pen and I do have another needle. Wondering if i should try and get a 5th dose out of this? Haven't caught up on all the posts, has anyone tried this?

In terms of stats, after 3 weeks:
SW - 9st 9lbs
CW - 9st 3lbs
GW - 8st (min)
H - 4ft 11in

Loss:
Wk1 - 4lbs
Wk2 - 1lb
Wk3 - 1lb

I am happy to lose weight slowly and steadily as I am paranoid about losing lean muscle rather than fat. My mindset has shifted to how my body shape is changing in terms of losing inches and seeing definition as opposed getting too hung up on numbers on scales.

Exercise-wise I aiming to reach daily step targets as well as strength exercises 3 / 4 times a week. Jasmine Dawn PT on YouTube had good 20 min full body workouts using dumbells, which can easily be fitted into a busy lifestyle.

To those who have started MJ, good luck and hope side effects are manageable!

Going to catch up on the thread now!

Cheesecake53 · 01/08/2026 11:41

@Flobberworm99 I plan to get the fifth dose out, too. But I'll have to wait two more weeks.

This video helped me the most but needles from Amazon are said to be not really sterile and on many Mumsnet threads these https://ukmedi.co.uk/products/fms-micro-syringe-32g-8mm-1ml-fms-fms-32g-10ml-ukmedi-co-uk are recommended. But they are currently sold out and I bought them from another supplier.

Because these needles are 2 mm longer than the pen needles, some have recommended to use them at a 45 degree angle.

Alternatively, if you have extra pen needles, you could force the pen, but the danger is to break the pen.

For a long time I was on the fence about using the fifth dose, but the pens are expensive and with the roll-out of the new pens almost finished I'll take every extra portion with every old pen I'll get :).

It worries me that the above video doesn’t use a drawing out needle (around 22g).

I can’t get my head around poking the fine insulin needle into the bung as surely that will blunt it, or risk it bending.

LivelyCyanPombear · 01/08/2026 15:10

I took my third dose on Wednesday and still a lot of suppression, sometimes I just don't fancy anything but forcing myself to eat a range! I've had a bit of Nausea but nothing major.

I have just reordered and medexpress recommended continuing with 2.5 which I am sticking with like a lot of you seem to be doing too. I just hope I don't get halfway through the month and it becomes less effective.

SW 15st 7
CW 14st 7.5
GW 9st 7 / 10st

AgedPudding · 01/08/2026 16:07

Same. Also this has made me realise how little protein I generally eat.

BatshitIsTheOnlyExplanation · 01/08/2026 16:34

Hi everyone, I'm finding that 2/3 of a 2.5mg dose (40 clicks) is working much better for me than a full dose. I took it yesterday morning, still feel slightly spaced out and a bit odd, but not as bad as last time and I definitely have more energy to do normal Saturday jobs. And have decent suppression - not in the league of 'I couldn't eat a thing' but I'm not especially hungry.

Today I'm making an active choice to skip lunch. I know it isn't advised, but whenever I've previously lost weight without the help of MJ, I've only been successful by creating long fasting windows, which is presumably how I'll have to do it again in the future, so to me it makes sense to do the same while I have the help of MJ.

Has anyone else done something similar?

RedFatball · 01/08/2026 16:56

I have had to cut out alcohol completely as a couple of sips of wine completely knocked me sideways and I can't afford the calories either. I am now coming to the end of my two weeks annual leave and am back to work on Monday. Slightly worried that I'm not going to be able to keep up the level of exercise I have been doing on leave and how that will affect me. However, my DH is worried that I'm overdoing it a bit so maybe everything in moderation...

RedFatball · 01/08/2026 17:00

I'm also feeling quite discouraged as although I'm losing well (1.5-2.5lbs a week) I still have 3.5 stone to go. That will put me at a BMI of 22.7 so I'm not aiming super low. I'm just a bit low and anxious at how LONG this is going to take...

Cheesecake53 · 01/08/2026 17:14

I know, @RedFatball I am in the same boat. I have 6 stones to lose. I hope to have an overweight BMI by Christmas and a healthy one next year.

RedFatball · 01/08/2026 17:21

@Cheesecake53I should be only overweight by the end of August, but then it's a long old 2.5stone slog to get into the healthy BMI...

CatMonj · 01/08/2026 18:21

Hi everyone

My bf is on mj and has lost about 3 stone. He's up to the 7.5 dose now. To get me going I used his golden dose in week one with no side effects and lost 6lbs, then again for my second week and felt awful (together with stomach bug) and lost 4lbs.

I'm obese by bmi standards but live in NI and so GP wouldn't prescribe mj. I ordered myself through Happen as they were the best on the monj comparasion site at £103 for a 4 week supply.

I had to make up weight and height to get it and supply fake scales pic etc. I found the whole process a bit daunting. Then communication with Happen wasn't great, spoke to someone foreign on the phone who asked me to ring their suppliers which put fear in me - I just thought, am I being scammed here?!

Is this what everyone else is going through that isn't being prescribed by their local GP and is this the process every month?

I'm a complete novice, so if someone could shed some light I'd really appreciate it.

Delivery of 2.5 due on Monday - hopefully!

BatshitIsTheOnlyExplanation · 01/08/2026 18:24

@CatMonj you shouldn't need to make anything up if your BMI is in the obese range.

Did you take 7.5mg as a starting dose?

BatshitIsTheOnlyExplanation · 01/08/2026 18:25

I got mine from Cuva health, submitted photos online but didn't speak to anyone.

Margrethe · 01/08/2026 18:29

I had my first dose Thursday night and don’t notice any effects at all. Good or bad. I didn’t even feel the needle going in. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’ll be i interested to see where I am at in a week.

SW 95.7 kilos
GW 63 kilos

Height 5’6”

ReneBallard · 01/08/2026 19:02

@RedFatball @Cheesecake53 completely ger it seems a long old slog, feeling the same. I’m trying to tell myself it would be a much harder and much longer slog without the MJ due to food noise. I can normally lose around without 7lbs (which takes ages) but then seem to stall there are the hunger starts and then I’m like a ravenous raccoon and would probably go through bins if allowed. I’m hoping for all our sakes that the MJ, whilst slow, allows us to get to where we feel comfortable

BerfyTigot · 01/08/2026 19:20

@BatshitIsTheOnlyExplanation initially i tried mounjaro for 3 months, then changed onto Wegovy hoping that I might feel less side effect.

But wegovy didn't really work for me, still had a good appetite apart from the one or 2 days a week when I felt ill. Then I gave up completely and regained everything I'd lost and then some. But I just gave up with dieting.

To be fair, it was probably the wrong time for me as I'd just had 2 close family die.

Also I ate crap while on it. So I'm being more sensible with food choices this time and gone back to mounjaro. Have reduced the dose to 1.7mg and side effects aren't as bad as they were (though I wouldn't say that when I'm suffering them!).

I'm going to reduce it to 1.5mg next week to see if I still get some benefit and less side effects.

I know what you mean. I CAN lose weight without MJ, but never easily and never without significant willpower which fluctuates depending on work stress. I can lose a stone in 3 months and put the whole lot back on in a couple of weeks.

Right now MJ is giving me the headspace to develop healthier habits. I'm walking, swimming, weight training and have just tentatively bought a new pair of running shoes, hopefully some of it will stick! Before I could either diet or up the exercise but I never managed both. This time, the friction in my brain is so much less I am managing both and hopefully retraining my brain!
