July 2026 Mounjaro starters

BritbirdUK · 28/06/2026 11:49

I started my mounjaro journey this weekend (Friday) but thought I would start a July thread as it is so close to the start of the new month.

My background - I love good food. My issue isn't necessary that I eat the wrong stuff it is just that I eat too much. I enjoy nice restaurants, Michelin stars and cooking from scratch. But my portion control is terrible. I overeat, regret it and can't leave food on my plate. I also run a food and drink related business. And I make excuses.

In the past I have lost large amounts of weight but this time I have struggled. Peri menopause, going through an adult ADHD diagnosis, a herniated disc (twice) and running your own small business isn't always conducive to WL. I was approved last year for Mounjaro via my GP and then, after my appointment, there were changes and it was pulled. It set me back massively and then, after some big bills at work, I just didn't feel like I could justify the costs and tried, but failed, to lose weight just by dieting.

Recently I went back to my GP and they did some tests and after a few different appointments I was fortunate enough to be approved again and given a prescription last week. I had my first jab on Friday and am determined to make a difference, change my mindset and get back to enjoying life again. There is a long way to go but I am taking one day at a time.

Hopefully there will be some other July starters here and we can support each other, share tips etc.

Jab 3 yesterday, still no side effects other than very little appetite!

I’ve lost 5kg in 2 and a bit weeks - yesterday my DD asked if I’d lost weight so it’s starting to show!

I go on holiday on Thursday - all inclusive for a week. Looking forward to being able to make good food choices with lots of protein and planning to stay alcohol free for the week - that’s been an unintended side effect; I’ve not wanted to drink at all.

have decided not to jab whilst I’m away (Monday is usual jab day).

Kabloom · 28/07/2026 07:55

First weigh in after a month and I’ve lost 19lbs. Obviously delighted but a long way to go. But also pleased that muscle mass seems to have gone up so all the stressing over the protein and pushing myself at my rehab sessions has been worth it. I’m sticking with 2.5mg for my second pen. Also shifting my jab day to tomorrow instead of today to work around a holiday later in August.

Welcome @irisheils its brilliant isn't it? I am in week two and still in this phase too!

DaringlyDizzy · 28/07/2026 09:16

I am in mixed feelings. End of week 2 and from 17st 7 to 16st 4.
I am on 2mg.
I am struggling a lot. Like a lot lot
I cant eat at all. I am struggling to drink.
In the last week I have had 3 meals. Total.
Plus maybe 2 cups of tea a day.
I cant get water in and don't feel thirst so the whole day passes
Unsurprisingly I am now getting the most awful headaches
I dont want to come off as my illnesses symptoms are SO SO REDUCED. I am pain free nearly.

ChocolateIsBad · 28/07/2026 09:30

I would go back to your prescriber for help. There’s no magic solution to not drinking so measure out water, take small sips through the day and don’t let day pass, perhaps add electrolytes.

As for food, small protein based meals. Even if you don’t feel like eating, small protein based snacks are needed otherwise your body will find protein from muscle in your body.

hussherbye · 28/07/2026 09:35

I’ve just been chatting with ChatGPT (as you do! 🤣) and sharing weight loss so far, calorie and protein intake as well as exercise and it was really good at suggesting tweaks to improve! One thing it suggested was a protein shake after a workout- does anyone have one they would recommend?

RedUn · 28/07/2026 10:26

I've just had my fifth jab. I changed my mind again and extracted the "golden" dose, it just seemed like such a waste and I have been reading that the pens are changing and the new ones don't have an amount remaining after the fourth dose. So I thought I'd use it whilst I can.

Four weeks completed and I am 12lbs down, CW is 12st 8lb, target at the moment is 10st 7lb. I am really starting to feel more hunger and less suppression on the 2.5mg in the 2nd half of the week. The lack of desire/need for food that was there early on is not there as much and although I am losing (even with a little sway away from my calorie controlling for a few days whilst we had friends to stay) I will move up to 5mg next week. I just don't want to the progress to stop. I've got 5 weeks of what should be a steady approach before I go away for a week for my birthday.

I'm sorry for those of you who are struggling, I must admit that in the 1st week I wasn't sure I'd be able to do it for any length of time because I just felt so unlike me, what with the bloat, constipation and complete lack of wanting to eat. I was lucky that with a few tweaks of adding fibre, increasing water and in the end just eating even if I didn't want to got me through. Thankfully things have settled down a lot as the month has gone on. I am aware that as I go up through the doses (if and when I need to) the side effects may come to the fore again.

Congratulations to all that are losing weight even if it is small amounts, they all take us nearer to our goal.

On an older threat I found a link to an interesting article that explains strategies to prevent hair loss and what to do in case it happens https://nymag.com/strategist/article/how-to-treat-glp-1-related-hair-loss.html . Though the headline claims it they argue GLP-1 does not cause hair loss but the weight loss may.

We Found Out Why Everyone’s Hair Is Falling Out While They’re on GLP-1s

The good news? It’s usually temporary and very treatable.

The myprotein vimto clear whey with added collagen is palatable and only 89 calories.

I went to the pharmacy - got weighed and have lost about 11 pounds which I am delighted about.
I decided to go up to the 5mg does as I am a teacher and would rather experience bad side effects when I am not in work!
Going to take the new dose tonight.
I am currently 11 stone 9 - would love to initially get down to ten stone and then take it from there 👍

Buzzyfeeder · 28/07/2026 15:41

Congrats to all those losing, every single pound is a benefit. Sorry for those who aren’t getting the response they’d hoped for, I think suppliers can be helpful BOLT do offer support line might help some decide their own next steps. Third dose for me today down 2lb so 8lb across two weeks, happy with that - 42lb to go! @hussherbye i like the Lidl protein shakes they are not super creamy which somehow I can’t stand anymore but used to love !! I also use TEAM RH to monitor my macros and it’s the best app I’ve used, holds weight/step/workout data too. I am recording everything religiously it’s so easy!

DaringlyDizzy · 28/07/2026 17:08

Managed to eat today! Had greek yoghurt with honey and then an ice cream float - not the healthiest but I kept it down.

SO exhasuted atm tho. Struggling to stay awake at work

BerfyTigot · 28/07/2026 17:42

Week 3 weigh in : 1kg

Bit disappointed as a sneaky mid week weigh in was the same, so I was hoping for slightly more! Never satisfied 😁

SW 113.7 KG
CW 107.6 KG

At least by now it shouldn't be water weight. I'm also going to stay on 2.5mg and might even try a half dose if the pharmacy ever get back to me 🙄, as i did vomit and have diarrhoea this week.

How are people measuring their muscle mass?

JuicyPie · 28/07/2026 18:52

Hope it's ok to join you all. I took my first dose on the 18th, starting weight of 13st 12lbs. Lost 5lbs in the first week. Not eating much as genuinely dont want it but this week I am being better at making sure what I eat is protein. Wish I had started months ago as my biggest downfall is mindlessly snacking and portion sizes and I have stopped all that. Really hopeful that it will continue to work!

Cheesecake53 · 28/07/2026 18:54

@BerfyTigot I got a Body Analysis Scale that I find okay, I just need to stand on it with slightly damp feet for body analysis. I also plan to stay on 2.5mg am currently 106.5kg.

Cheesecake53 · 28/07/2026 18:57

Welcome @JuicyPie ! I was the same with protein.

Wigwambam65 · 28/07/2026 20:33

Weigh in today.

3lbs off - now weigh 11st 3lbs with less than a stone to go.

I’m definitely going to half my dose tonight - my losses appear to be really good so it won’t be the end of the world if it slows the weight loss down a bit. I am eating but purely because I know I have to and making sure I have lots of protein and fibre in my diet. Am fed up with the constant nausea so let’s see how it goes this week.

Please talk to your prescriber/GP, you need lots of water when you're on these meds, but especially important in the hot weather. If you're not able to take sufficient water in, I suspect they might suggest that you stop

Nowimhereandimlost · 29/07/2026 09:02

Middle of week 4 for me and early 12lbs down. I plateaud for a week or two but kept at it, kept going to the gym, and it started falling again. It's amazing to me that it's possible I could be an entire stone lighter in only 4 weeks!

I can see it in my face and body and weirdly, today I had to tighten the straps on my sandals one notch because even my feet (?!) seem to have slimmed down and they were feeling far too loose.

The dosage works well for me so I'm sticking at 2.5. however I have a 10 day holiday coming up and although I planned to bring with me, on second thoughts I don't think I'll be able to. It's 40 degrees where I'm going and we're also moving around a bit so I won't be able to keep the pen in a fridge the whole time to make sure it doesn't get above 30 degrees. So it'll be interesting to see how I feel the second week, there will be a lot of delicious things around!

My sandals felt loose today too! For the love of god surely there’s better places to be losing weight though?!!! 🤣

For those of you who are a few weeks in now, can I ask if your side effects have lessened?

Yes!!
after the first 4 jabs I had a few horrible days of bloating and sulphur burps. I had dose 5 on Sunday and hey presto, I’ve felt good this week!

MamaK19 · 29/07/2026 22:29

2nd jab last night haven’t been super hungry again today but this evening I feel like I want to snack but just have no idea what I want like I’m hungry but the thought of anything puts me off has anyone else had the same? I know I’m not eating as much as I should really and am struggling with that, anyone have any ideas that worked for them?

I've also had this! Slipped on shoes that I use if I need to nip out in car to pick DC up and I thought someone else had been wearing them and stretched them as they were loose on. I'm assuming you retain water in your feet/ankles maybe? And that's often first thing to go when you're losing weight.

ChocolateIsBad · 30/07/2026 08:51

Jab #5 today (2.5mg); around 10 and a half pounds lost in 4 weeks. Current weight is just over 11 stone, 2. Aiming for a further half stone loss. Hopefully with the second pen I have.

Week 1: 2 pounds
Week 2: 4 pounds
Week 3: 2.4 pounds
Week 4: 2.2 pounds

Had quite a bit of bloating yesterday afternoon. Not sure what caused it. Either the wrap I had for lunch or a Waitrose protein mix of plants/seeds I’d added to salad evening before.

BettinaBumblebee · 30/07/2026 09:32

@Y0gamummy and @hussherbye me too! The first place I noticed was the back of my hands oddly. They felt really puffy before and now I can see the bones, first time in many years. My wrist bones are visible too. Sandals now need to be tightened a notch and my ankles are no longer swelling in the heat.

Sadly can’t see much difference to my tummy and hips..It always comes off last from the place you really need it to. But I’ll take slim hands for now. Can’t stop looking at them!😂
