July 2026 Mounjaro starters

BritbirdUK · 28/06/2026 11:49

I started my mounjaro journey this weekend (Friday) but thought I would start a July thread as it is so close to the start of the new month.

My background - I love good food. My issue isn't necessary that I eat the wrong stuff it is just that I eat too much. I enjoy nice restaurants, Michelin stars and cooking from scratch. But my portion control is terrible. I overeat, regret it and can't leave food on my plate. I also run a food and drink related business. And I make excuses.

In the past I have lost large amounts of weight but this time I have struggled. Peri menopause, going through an adult ADHD diagnosis, a herniated disc (twice) and running your own small business isn't always conducive to WL. I was approved last year for Mounjaro via my GP and then, after my appointment, there were changes and it was pulled. It set me back massively and then, after some big bills at work, I just didn't feel like I could justify the costs and tried, but failed, to lose weight just by dieting.

Recently I went back to my GP and they did some tests and after a few different appointments I was fortunate enough to be approved again and given a prescription last week. I had my first jab on Friday and am determined to make a difference, change my mindset and get back to enjoying life again. There is a long way to go but I am taking one day at a time.

Hopefully there will be some other July starters here and we can support each other, share tips etc.

1.3lb down for me this week. Hoping for a much better outcome next week after an entire week where I can just be healthy with no trips away to derail me!!

Im only 5ft 3 so a long way to go. Goal weight is 9 1/2 stone.
I'm feeling positive and determined though.

I’ve sadly had to stop jabbing. First two weeks I was so unwell with a cold, cough and sore throat. Researching this I found that MJ can cause Upper Respiratory infections! Just before my third jab, I developed a really bad UTI and had to get emergency antibiotics. Having drunk so much water, the whole time I’ve been jabbing I was really shocked to develop the UTI. I’ve taken this as a sign that unfortunately, MJ is just not for me! The UTI was pretty scary. I lost 3KG whilst on MJ so hopefully I can keep it off. Good luck everyone with your WL journeys, wishing you all the best.

SilenceInside · 26/07/2026 09:39

@Frolie that’s very interesting. can you point me towards where you found the research about Mounjaro and upper respiratory infections?

We can do it!
I keep imagining all the things I’ll feel comfortable doing when I’ve lost weight and the clothes I’ll wear which I know is very materialistic but it does encourage me.
Mainly I need to lose the weight to be as healthy as I can for my little boy who has complex disabilities. Mostly my weightlifting exercises consist of lifting him out of his wheelchair at the moment so I definitely need to improve that.

@MammaGnomes congratulations on your promotion 👏
What was it from/to?

Thanks @BatshitIsTheOnlyExplanation I work in finance. I’ve moved into a more senior role within my department

I have really struggled to eat. Since Wednesday afternoon I have had one full meal only. I just feel so so full and sick. Weight in today marks 1st in 10 days gone which I am happy about. However I am struggling to drink anything so I know I am dehydrated hence the massive loss. Just feeling so rough and light headed and dizzy. No fun. I am 2 jabs in and on 2mg.

@DaringlyDizzyi find I feel a little nauseous if I haven’t drank enough. I use flavoured hydration sachets that helps. Maybe try some diluted juice in your water if your struggling

Nothing with materialistic goals! I am looking forward to feeling more confident in a swim swim suit etc

Getting fir for your little one is a great goal! I have a degenerative disease and a 7yo and want to be as fit as poss for him x

Has anyone reduced a dose by counting clicks. I am due to take my last 2.5mg dose and was thinking about halving it to try and reduce the nausea for a week or 2 before I start a new pen (still at 2.5). Not sure how much difference this would make but am a bit fed up with feeling nauseous and was hoping it might reduce that a bit. No other real side effects, had good losses and am confident I will do this week as well.

I haven't actually done that, but did discuss it with a doctor last week, who said that he couldn't officially recommend it as 2.5mg is the lowest dose, but he's known of people who do it either for maintenance or to manage side effects.

I didn't even take my 2nd dose as I was too lightheaded and brain foggy. It's now 9 days since my one and only jab, starting to feel a bit more my normal self and have a bit of energy back. If I take another dose, it will be a half dose.

bluemoonredsky · 26/07/2026 18:26

i haven't been very good this week, really slacked off the protein etc as i just couldn’t get into the groove with my food and its showed on the scales only 1lb off.

SW: 15st 6lbs
week 1: 14st 11lbs (-9lbs)
week 2: 14st 8lbs (-3Ibs)
week 3: 14st 7lbs (-1lb)

hoping to get at least the 1lb of this week to take me to total of 1st + in 4 weeks.

I’m going to try - I don’t want to miss a dose but am getting good appetite suppression along with the nausea. I’ve got a new pen coming so I will do the next two at 1.25 if I can work out how to and get a bit of a break, start 2.5 again for four weeks and take it from there. No-one knows I’m doing this and I can see my other half is a bit confused by my portions and the constant not quite rightness.

LivelyCyanPombear · 27/07/2026 08:05

I'm wondering what to do about reordering, I think I might stick at 2.5 like a few of you. We are going on holiday just after my 5th dose and I don't want to have sudden new side effects but also don't want to "waste" a month if it's going to be less effective for the few weeks after.

I did feel some nausea yesterday but I think that was because I hadn't eaten enough. We were at wetherspoons and everything was so unappetising! I ate something else when we got home and felt much better.

AgedPudding · 27/07/2026 08:55

I’ve sadly had to stop jabbing

Sorry to hear this, It must be disappointing. Incidentally, I got an upper respiratory tract infection 2 days after first jab - but my grandchild and son in law already had one that week and I was spending time there helping. I was putting it down to simply catching it from them. I'd be interested to find some info about the jabs causing it.

BackontheMJtrain · 27/07/2026 11:54

Good to read of the losses!

End of Week 3 for me and total of a 7lb loss which am pleased with. Hit 13 stone today so am hoping to get into the 12s soon!

LovelyLapin · 27/07/2026 14:19

I definitely had some throat related discomfort the first few days but I can’t be certain it was the MJ.

@LivelyCyanPombear- I reordered 2.5. Maybe I could have bought 5mg and done half doses. I didn’t even consider that TBH. I’m going to (try to) use the golden dose this week.

@BackontheMJtrain- oooh that’s amazing. I love being in the ‘next stone down’ bracket! Nearly there! I’m 11 stones 12.6 pounds but my scales measure in lb so I missed the drop into the 11s!

hussherbye · 27/07/2026 15:05

Frustrating weigh in today- put on one pound. Food intake has been good but more alcohol recently- mostly still keeping to 1500 or less. Feeling disappointed

LovelyLapin · 27/07/2026 22:12

@hussherbye - 1500 including the alcohol calories?

I just ate my first ‘bad’ meal since starting. I feel so 🤢

BettinaBumblebee · 27/07/2026 22:19

End of week 4 for me and sadly no loss 😟Not sure I’ve done anything differently so I’ll trust in the process and hope for something next weigh in..

On the upside, I’m 11lbs down in 4 weeks and that’s still amazing to me. I am starting to feel lighter but can’t quite put my finger on where 😂

@Frolie sorry to hear this hasn’t worked out for you. All the best with whatever you try next!

Morning first jab yesterday and I have felt so ill. Headaches and the nausea is reminding me of Morning sickness just all day
The thought of food is making me ill! I am hoping this tails off, I was so hoping to be one of the ones with zero side effects 😔

Pls make sure you keep drinking water.

irisheils · 28/07/2026 01:03

Hello,
I know I'm late to the club but hoping I can join to share this journey with others.

I had my first dose of MJ on Friday evening (24th) prescribed by my type 2 diabetic nurse.

I'm in utter shock and wondering what kind of magic this medication is.
I couldn't really imagine what life could be like with lack of food noise, but wow, I know now!!!
My body is not screaming out for carbs.
I could actually cry with relief at my brain not being constantly filled with cravings.

I know it's seriously early days of a very long journey, but it couldn't have gone better for me so far.
I haven't experienced any nasty side effects yet. I'm just getting to enjoy not being food obsessed.
I'm using an app to keep track of my nutrition and actually struggling to meet my calories, so I have ordered some meal replacement shakes.
I'm very excited (and emotional)

I'm almost 55 and have struggled with my weight for all of my life. It was seriously impacting my health.
I'm almost scared to believe that this might actually be a long term solution.

MamaK19 · 28/07/2026 06:50

1st week done and 7lbs down 😮well aware this is mostly water weight but I will take it as a win, biggest change for me is portion size I am getting fuller quicker and not wanting to snack in the evening, I have had quite bad constipation though which isn’t ideal 😂

hussherbye · 28/07/2026 07:30

LovelyLapin · 27/07/2026 22:12

Yep- I think twice I have been over but also often under. Not sure if alcohol somehow stops me losing weight?

@BettinaBumblebee similar to me, I’m gutted but trying to focus on the long game

hussherbye · 28/07/2026 07:31

@LovelyLapin one ‘bad’ meal won’t wreck everything- I bet you made some good choices in there too?
