July 2026 Mounjaro starters

I started my mounjaro journey this weekend (Friday) but thought I would start a July thread as it is so close to the start of the new month.

My background - I love good food. My issue isn't necessary that I eat the wrong stuff it is just that I eat too much. I enjoy nice restaurants, Michelin stars and cooking from scratch. But my portion control is terrible. I overeat, regret it and can't leave food on my plate. I also run a food and drink related business. And I make excuses.

In the past I have lost large amounts of weight but this time I have struggled. Peri menopause, going through an adult ADHD diagnosis, a herniated disc (twice) and running your own small business isn't always conducive to WL. I was approved last year for Mounjaro via my GP and then, after my appointment, there were changes and it was pulled. It set me back massively and then, after some big bills at work, I just didn't feel like I could justify the costs and tried, but failed, to lose weight just by dieting.

Recently I went back to my GP and they did some tests and after a few different appointments I was fortunate enough to be approved again and given a prescription last week. I had my first jab on Friday and am determined to make a difference, change my mindset and get back to enjoying life again. There is a long way to go but I am taking one day at a time.

Hopefully there will be some other July starters here and we can support each other, share tips etc.

Well done to everyone so far and for those still deciding, go for it as there is nothing to lose - apart from the weight hopefully! I only wish I had started sooner.

Just about to take my 2nd jab, hoping i don't get the initial queasiness that I did for a few hours after the first one. Other than that I couldn't believe how I had no hunger and had to remind myself and make myself eat! Been mindful of getting plenty of protein and fibre and water.

No other symptoms for me and it's so freeing not to have your mind taken over with the food noise and wanting to snack. I had same as another poster, my son had McDonald's yesterday and I was not even tempted to nick some chips. I just did not fancy it.

I am down 4lbs in my first week which i am very happy with. Off I go to jab!

CW: 9st 5lbs

2nd weigh in and three pounds down! Pleased to have seen some movement this week as nothing happened last week due to a boozy weekend and being away. Going to really step up my activity levels next week and swear off booze for the rest of July to see what happens. If I maintain 3lb a week I’d be at a much happier weight for my birthday.

Nowimhereandimlost · 18/07/2026 13:26

End of wk 2 and another 3lbs down which I'm pleased with. It feels sustainable and in the last two days I've felt tonnes better, potentially because I'm making myself eat regularly (just smaller portions than usual), but also potentially I did have some sort of stomach bug.

I feel like I'm re-educating myself on what a portion size should be, while I've been wanting to do for years.

Y0gamummy · 18/07/2026 15:21

First jab 9.30 this morning. Was terrified afterwards, worried about serious side effects and a bit freaked out by being responsible myself for injecting medicine (convinced myself I hadn't done it correctly!). No side effects yet and the hunger/food thing is really weird - I don't necessarily feel full but if you offered me a bit of chocolate I wouldn't want it, which is highly unusual. So I'm guessing this is the lack of food noise? Soup and oatcakes for lunch, drinking lots of water. So far so good.

ChocolateIsBad · 18/07/2026 16:51

Spent morning in A&E ruling out heart attack, pulmonary embolism, collapsed lung and everything else. Doctor thinks strained chest muscles. Ibuprofen has helped a bit. Pain is intense. Thankfully no indication of pancreatitis or gall stones.

RedFatball · 18/07/2026 16:56

Did they mention costochondritis? I have had this a couple of times and it hurts like a mofo

RedFatball · 18/07/2026 17:00

So far I have had almost continuous suppression, with Mondays being a bit harder before jab on Tuesday. I have had some dizziness but I think it's more related to days when I don't eat enough. If I get to 1400-1500 calories it's fine. One day I only had 650cal which is NOT healthy, and was the result of a very busy work day, but I won't be doing that again. You really do have to eat enough I've found, which for me is that 1400-1500 mark.

BlackBean2023 · 18/07/2026 18:16

I jabbed on Monday, today is the first time I’ve really fancied food but definitely not my usual Saturday night snacking levels! I’m expecting to be hungry tomorrow as it’s the day before jab 2 but I’m looking forward to weighing in on Monday AM!

I really really haven’t wanted wine this week though and that is alien for me!

Totally agree a loss is a loss and it’s about creating different habits.
I am really pleased but I know it’s only quite a big amount because I have so much too lose and that other weeks it will be much less. I will be happy with any loss each week.
I’m having a total change of lifestyle. Sounds really silly but just little changes like using a nice moisturiser, taking vitamins, planning for the future and so on.
I think I just really haven’t liked myself for a long time and didn’t feel it was worth doing anything nice for myself. I’m giving myself little goals. As long as I keep losing weight then in September I’m going to the hairdressers for the first time in 2 years, I might even get my eyebrows done!
probably sounds silly but I am excited and feeling determined.

Please ensure you are losing fat, not muscle. I have a friend who is now sarcopenic, as he has been on Mounjaro for 1 year and has lost over 3 stone. He was on the cusp of being diagnosed with sarcopenia after a DEXA scan so just started taking Forzet (essential amino acids) to help him rebuild. He said he wishes he took it when he first started. He finds it hard to walk uphill now, even though he is not really overweight any longer but still had visceral weight around his tummy area. He is a Type 2 diabetic as well. What is scary is that you lose weight thinking it's fat, but some of it is muscle. He is mid 50s. Scary.

LivelyCyanPombear · 18/07/2026 19:07

Glad it's nothing serious @ChocolateIsBad !

I started dieting last Sunday and took my first dose Wednesday night. I weighed myself last saturday and was 16st, today I am 15st 1 😳 I must have been retaining a shed load of water.

Yes @RedFatball the doctor thought it might be this also.

Warm compresses and ibuprofen help for me

AelinAG · 18/07/2026 22:09

Glad you’re okay @ChocolateIsBad!

S210873
I think most of my first week loss was water retention as my ankles are no longer swollen and because I have such a lot to lose.
i don’t think it’s muscle I’m losing, my stomach has gone down and my bottom a very small bit. I have lots more energy so starting exercising now too.
I’ve been really careful to get enough protein and fibre in last week.

missedtherainbow · 19/07/2026 07:49

Third injection due this evening.
I’ve just reordered and decided to stay on the 2.5 for another month whilst it seems to be working for me.
SW: 18st 1lb
1W: 17st 3lb
CW: 17st
Im adding protein powder to my yogurt and bran flakes for breakfast as I am struggling to get enough protein in daily.
Im taking biotin, collagen and vitamin D supplements.
Feeling better than I have in a long time. It’s been a total diet overhaul for me as before I would gorge on junk food, have terrible bloating and constantly tired.
Ive been eating 3 set meals a day, drinking 3 litres of water a day and am just starting to introduce some exercise (You Tube video whilst holding cans of kidney beans!)

bluemoonredsky · 19/07/2026 08:18

Third injection due today - no side effects so far. Struggled this week as away for a few days and relied on eating at service stations.

sw: 15st 6lbs
week 1: 14st 11lbs (-9lbs)
week 2: 14st 8lbs (-3lbs)

I have found ChatGPT quite useful for food on the run "tell me the best high protein low calorie meal from Tesco". It then usually gives me a couple of options to choose from.

the spectre of constipation is upon me again, going to have to try lactose this time. I'm naturally prone to it, and keeping on top of it is going to be very key for my success I think!

S210873 · 19/07/2026 13:06

That is brilliant; well done. It's worth reading this: https://mbk.life/pages/glp-1-support.
Protect that muscle.

Great idea @RedFatball im away with work this week and usually either deliver in or have an M&S picky bits dinner. I’ve just asked what I should pick up from M&S and it’s given me a couple of ideas

Cheesecake53 · 19/07/2026 15:52

Hi all, I did my first injection on Friday and I've been fine so far. I bought protein powder from https://theorganicproteincompany.co.uk and will add that to my porridge.

SW 110kg/17st.3 BMI 37.2

Beadley · 19/07/2026 16:45

Joining in too if that’s ok? Took my first injection on July 8th so I’m midway though week 2 now. I’m on holidays for a few weeks and don’t have access to weighing scales so I don’t know if I’ve lost anything yet. I feel so good though! I hadn’t realised that before MJ I had been feeling so bad. Every morning I would wake up with a grumbling painful tummy (probably still digesting the s**t I’d eaten the day before.) Now I wake up feeling great- not only pain free but happy and hopeful too.

So pleased to be on this journey. Only sorry I didn’t start sooner.

Cheesecake53 · 19/07/2026 20:11

I also use the app shotsy to see how the injections built up in my body. Does anyone else use something similar?

Cheesecake53 · 19/07/2026 20:12

@Beadley I also wake up feeling so great, I hope that lasts!

minnymoobear · 19/07/2026 21:00

@Cheesecake53 I started using Shotsy last night
3rd injection tonight after the footy!

not loosing much weight tbh but looking and feeling better and trying to be patient! Doing a lot more activity so know it’s all good long term

AelinAG · Yesterday 09:52

Whole family came down with a tummy bug yesterday and all I could stomach was white bread and butter so hoping that hasn’t derailed me too significantly :( I seem to have recovered today but everyone else still ropey…

Although the scales aren’t showing me the same kind of loss as some of you I feel like I look better in my face? Not sure I am seeing a difference in clothes yet
