July 2026 Mounjaro starters

BritbirdUK · 28/06/2026 11:49

I started my mounjaro journey this weekend (Friday) but thought I would start a July thread as it is so close to the start of the new month.

My background - I love good food. My issue isn't necessary that I eat the wrong stuff it is just that I eat too much. I enjoy nice restaurants, Michelin stars and cooking from scratch. But my portion control is terrible. I overeat, regret it and can't leave food on my plate. I also run a food and drink related business. And I make excuses.

In the past I have lost large amounts of weight but this time I have struggled. Peri menopause, going through an adult ADHD diagnosis, a herniated disc (twice) and running your own small business isn't always conducive to WL. I was approved last year for Mounjaro via my GP and then, after my appointment, there were changes and it was pulled. It set me back massively and then, after some big bills at work, I just didn't feel like I could justify the costs and tried, but failed, to lose weight just by dieting.

Recently I went back to my GP and they did some tests and after a few different appointments I was fortunate enough to be approved again and given a prescription last week. I had my first jab on Friday and am determined to make a difference, change my mindset and get back to enjoying life again. There is a long way to go but I am taking one day at a time.

Hopefully there will be some other July starters here and we can support each other, share tips etc.

@VimtoPrincess are you drinking lots and getting at least 30g of fibre a day? Increase your fibre if not, but not too fast. I have a pretty sluggish bowel and not convinced the increased fibre made much of a difference but I also bought Movicol and took 2 sachets. Think I went 4 days without going. From dose 2 it’s been the opposite 🤷‍♀️

missedtherainbow · 11/07/2026 17:14

I’m really struggling to eat much. I’m just not hungry and when I eat I’m full very quickly. Think the heat is a contributing factor too. Second jab due tomorrow.

Wigwambam65 · 11/07/2026 17:50

Took my first dose on Tuesday. Appetite most definitely suppressed - a wee bit of dull headache and slight nausea at times but nothing too bad. I’ve made sure to be drinking plenty of fluids, eating protein (not sure if sufficient amounts) and fibre. All in all not a bad week at all.

I’ve been doing slimming world for over a year and am struggling with the last stone and a half. Will weigh on Tuesday and try to do it weekly if I can resist the scales in between.

Thank you @RedFatball i will look into these. I’m worried about hair loss so might try some biotin as well.

Had my first dose yesterday and today I went to the safari park with DP and DS. We took a packed lunch to be a bit healthier and save a bit of money. I am so impressed that I didn’t even fancy an ice cream or donut.

DP fancied a curry tonight so he is having a takeaway but again, I didn’t fancy anything so just having some chicken and a few leftover picnic picky bits.

It’s so unlike me not to stuff my face with treats at the weekend!

How’s everyone else’s weekend going?

LovelyLapin · 11/07/2026 19:51

If you’re feeling constipated a high dose of vitamin C and a Costa coffee normally shifts things for me. I think I have the opposite but since constipated is my normal it’s actually working out fine!

Nowimhereandimlost · 11/07/2026 20:13

Down 4.8lbs week 1. Not as much as some but impressive for me. I went to my PIL today for lunch, my MIL competitively undereats. Usually I would eat even more, just to annoy her (did it ever?!) or prove some kind of point... But today I just took what I wanted and no more. It was very freeing.

One weird thing - I had a square of chocolate after dinner the other night and had a strange reaction in my throat. I am very much not allergic to chocolate (perhaps I wouldn't need WLI if I was!). Couldn't really find anything about this being related to MJ.

I've realised that I need to eat at the same times I usually would, just less and better. Week 1 I was so amazed I wasn't hungry I just wouldn't really eat until I felt suddenly exhausted. I think better not to get to that point.

Constipation - usually a strong coffee or two does the trick!

minnymoobear · 11/07/2026 21:18

Had to do a double check when eating dinner today

sardines,
large salad
apple
air fryer potatoes wedges
cottage cheese

feel nice and full and know it was healthy for me with lots of protein

trying not to cut out everything enjoyable so I can stick with overall healthy eating long term so might have an ice lolly with strawberries and blueberries when watching England match

RedFatball · 11/07/2026 21:45

I was working today and succumbed to Burger King at lunchtime. Normally this would be followed by a wholesale abandonment of diet and guilt/shame/defeat. Now I can look at it as a large meal (but decent protein!) and shrug and move past it. Had a yogurt for tea as that's all I fancied. My main issue is my ongoing stomach volatility, but we'll see what it makes of a burger...

the ability to shrug my way past my previous guilt and shame about almost anything food related is quite the revelation!

BerfyTigot · 11/07/2026 22:52

@Nowimhereandimlost Well done! Nearly 5lbs is a fantastic loss! 👏

BackontheMJtrain · 11/07/2026 23:27

2.5lb loss or me this week.

Pleased with that - of course we always want more, but without MJ I would be putting on weight without doubt!

missedtherainbow · 12/07/2026 06:40

I took my first jab last Sunday.
SW 18st 1lb
CW 17st 3lb
felt a bit nauseous in the first few days but nothing else. Have swapped unhealthy choices to healthy high protein choices, drinking 3 litres of water a day and taking supplements.
second jab tonight, I know I won’t lose as much each week going forward but I’m aiming for 2-3lb a week.
Time to get moving more this coming week been very lazy in the heat!

Kamek · 12/07/2026 08:12

I'm due to do jab 2 tonight and have lost 9.5 lbs this week which I'm really pleased with, and apart from feeling a bit queasy on Monday and quite tired it's been much better than I thought!

BlackBean2023 · 12/07/2026 08:42

I have bitten the bullet and just made my first order. It will arrive in the next few days but I’m going to take my first dose on Friday evening as I’m a term time worker and if I do have some side effects I won’t be at work.

Height: 5’2
CW: 71kg
TW: 54kg

going to catch up on the thread for tips!

bluemoonredsky · 12/07/2026 09:10

Week 1 weigh in done - 9lbs down.

SW: 15st 6lb
CW: 14st 11lb

things that have worked for me:
electrolytes morning and evening
30g protein for breakfast - food or a shake
eating protein from a meal first to make sure i dont fill up and miss it.
110g protein minimum each day

this week i am upping the exercise.

MammaGnomes · 12/07/2026 09:49

well done everyone on their loses this week!

@Nomorepants I feel similar, I’m on week 3 and have lost 4lbs so far. I was expecting a much bigger loss, especially in the first week. Like you I did eat relatively well in general. All meals are cooked from scratch and during the week I tend to make good choices. My downfall is the weekend we would have treat meals and a bottle of wine, the snacking would then ramp up and I guess the weight has piled on from this gradually. I’ve been taking my dose on a Friday so that my suppression is highest at the weekend to try and combat this and I’m going to add in exercise when the weather cools down a bit.

I know people say don’t compare to others but it is hard when you see people losing a lot.

that said I’ve had a pretty heavy weekend. We were in Spain for a day trip on Friday and whilst food was ok I did drink a lot! Last night we watched the match at my mums and had a bbq. I stayed away from the burgers, sausage and snacks and had chicken and salad but did have a couple of beers. Around 8pm I just fancied a glass of water I fully intended to have another beer afterwards but I just didn’t fancy it all. So unlike me.

really hoping I haven’t done too much damage with the alcohol

RedFatball · 12/07/2026 10:18

@bluemoonredskythats a fantastic loss. I am also trying to up the exercise - went swimming this morning and am completely wiped out now!

Well done for avoiding the sausages and last beer! I have not had a good weekend at all. Fortunately no side effects but a sign that suppression not really working. Curry, chocolate, sausage roll, cake, sausage and burger in 24h.

Had a very strong word with myself this morning and hope balance from rest of the week won’t derail too much.

Puddleduck2013 · 12/07/2026 11:18

morming All. Weighed myself this morning and looks like I’ve lost 6 pounds over about 9 days.

But I literally have zero appetite and am hardly eating anything which isn’t good.
This heat isn’t helping things and I’m
a bit worried about losing too quickly

Miababe · 12/07/2026 13:07

I'm Day 6 and yesterday I started with indigestion and bolus (lump feeling in throat). I'm taking Rennie's. Anyone else? . I'm keeping meals low in fat and eating lots of protein veg and small amounts of carbs. Pretty bland stuff really. I

hussherbye · 12/07/2026 15:38

Hi everyone! Some fab losses, well done all! Tricky week here, but I’ve been able to cope with being stressed/exhausted without just binging. Went out for lunch and chose the salmon salad. I also realise I haven’t been drinking as much water due to being so busy, need to get back on that

AgedPudding · 12/07/2026 19:07

Can I come in to your thread? I haven't read it all yet, but I plan to.
Like a previous poster, I rarely eat upf and cook from scratch. It's portion size that's my problem. That, and getting soooo soooo hungry after a few hours if I cut portions in half. Then of course you think sod it!
Should be receiving Mounjaro on Wednesday this week. I'm in my late 60s so seem to have been trying to lose weight forever! It's going to be expensive, with my budget, but nothing else seems to have worked.

A distant relative who was significantly heavier than me has lost over 7 stones on Mounjaro so that has spurred me on. Also started having knee joint pain and want to head that off at the pass. Sorry this post has been about me me me, but I'm actually very interested in finding out what happens to you you you.

I'm 16 stones and would be happy with 12, but happier with 10 which I was when I got married. My husband reckons he's only married to two thirds of me.
It's a joke. I'm only married to two thirds of him as well. I reckon if this works he'll be ordering it too. Looking forward to being a couple of weeks behind everyone.
If you see what I mean.

Frolie · 12/07/2026 19:19

My second jab due tmw and will weigh myself. I’ve found the first week really hard. I’ve had a sore throat, cough and been so fatigued. I’ve really struggled to the point I’m not looking forward at all, to the second one. I’ve been careful to ensure my protein levels hit target and I don’t eat unhealthily anyway. I’ve drunk SO much water! I really hope the side effects ease into the second week. I don’t feel myself at all. Has anyone else experienced similar?

AgedPudding · 12/07/2026 19:36

Hi Clairedebear, Do you mean you got it on the NHS ? I'm the same sort of height and weight as you but I'd assumed the GP would never give it to me so I'm paying a fortune privately. I haven't got any real health issues, apart from a little bit of (osteo)arthritis but at my age of 70 that's pretty standard. So do you mind me asking, have you got health issues ? I'd love to know please. If there's any chance my GP would give me my Wegovy (or Mountjaro) that would be so excellent. And if anyone else has a comment about this, please do join in ! I assumed there was 'No Chance'..

I'm pretty much the same as you. On my way to 70, non of the criteria for nhs prescription. Also osteo arthritis in my knees. GP reckoned absolutely no chance whatsoever of injections on the nhs. I can't really afford it either but having to suck it up. Hopefully cut down on the food bills!

Buzzyfeeder · 12/07/2026 19:38

I’d like to join here too please! After debating for months I’ve ordered and been approved today, feel nervously excited to change my relationship with food and being overweight. I’m telling no one so would help to have an outlet here!

Welcome @AgedPudding we have a similar starting weight so can spur each other on- I’d also love 12st. I also realised it would be good to be lighter than my husband for the first time EVER. He’s just under 14st so hopefully not too long…
