Everyone just hates fat people

mamabeeboo · 12/05/2025 15:11

Yes I'm fat and yes I'm taking the WLI.

I've had it out with a friend of a friend during a catch up dinner yesterday and I'm fuming.

I've lost some weight and still have a good 5 or so stone more to go before I'm anywhere near the 'normal' BMI category. So no, I'm not wasting away or disappearing, or losing weight too fast.

The mistake I made was being honest about the jabs. But I stand by it, I think it's important to get healthy, regardless of how you do it, just get there.

ANYWAY, this person has suddenly decided to feel concerned for my health, now that the loss has become noticeable. With some silent nods from others about how you should 'just eat less and move more'. No shit is that what was supposed to do?!

A big discussion about:
just have willpower
just have smaller portions
do it the normal way, you don't know what you're putting into your body
it's not healthy
just put down the fork
it's about dicipline
it's not really losing weight though, is it (huhh??)
it's more rewarding to do it the normal way so you can feel achievement

It's gotten me thinking of how so many people just hate fat people. You want us to pay for being fat, to suffer at the gym doing workouts we don't like or can't do with joint pain and back pain etc. You want us to 'just have willpower' like it's that easy. You want us to try all the diets and fail so you can feel superior with your 'discipline' and that you 'look after your body'.

You hate the fact that these WLI have levelled the playing field.

I said all this yesterday and it became very frosty. These aren't my friends, I was there for the birthday girl, but I won't sit there and take it.

I'm posting because I'd love to hear what you might have heard when talking about WLI. (Or if anyone agrees with the above 🤔)

Some people are fucking weird. They want to keep you fat so they can keep feeling superior.

I just don’t get this, how anybody thinks they are superior because of their weight?!? Such a bizarre mentality I just cannot wrap my head around it.

Why not some other random measure like leg length or head circumference?

Some people are so weird.

I had no idea I’d been “superior” all my life. I should have made these idiotic slim-worshippers my minions and retired. 🤣

Honestly OP, I think if anybody has this amount of vacuum inside their skull then you really shouldn’t waste your time worrying about what they “think” because the answer is “not very much at all”!

So they like fat people because they make them feel good about themselves lol

I think there is a big difference between being secretive about something and simply not sharing it.

The older I get the less I share about lots of things - especially when I think there is a chance I have to endure the 'wisdom' of people at the peak of mount stupid on the Dunning-Kruger effect curve as a result. I don't talk about weight or weight loss/diets with almost every one - I simply find it boring and unhelpful with almost everyone. Very few people are well informed and truly understand. That was a lesson I had to learn the hard way a few times!

Good luck with the rest of your journey @mamabeeboo !

Everyone else has to have will power and exercise to stay in shape. For me, that’s why the jabs annoy me. They are a cheat to continue your lazy lifestyle that is off limits to everyone else.

No-one is neing lazy. They still have to reduce calories, eat healthy, try and exercise.
They aren’t fat burners.. no-one is eating junk food and losing weight

I was prescribed it to treat my diabetes, which I developed because despite repeatedly asking for medical help with my proven and documented insulin resistant PCOS I was just fobbed off for over a decade by various doctors who told me to ‘eat less and move more’.

Unsurprisingly when actually given suitable medical intervention to control my endocrine disorder I have gone on to lose 4 and a half stone, get down to a healthy BMI and put my diabetes into remission.

I now run 3 times a week, do strength exercises 3 times a week and eat a healthy balanced diet. I can do this because my body isnt fighting my efforts, it’s still hard work and requires me to demonstrate willpower and make the right choices but now I’m not doing it feeling light headed, with aching joints, with a rumbling stomach and my mouth watering with hunger constantly, chasing the fleeting satisfaction of carbs to feel full for just a few minutes before the hunger is back.

I know lots of people with low IQs who are really great humans. I'm not keen on the way this thread is turning.

I'm not aware that there's a correlation between GCSEs and moral character.

And I get comments like ‘oh I bet you never eat cake and biscuits’ or ‘you dont look like youve had a full meal at a restaurant in a while’. I eat plenty, but I also have to go without a LOT of the things I love to stay a healthy weight, and do exercise I hate. I have to bite my tongue not to tell people to FO and mind their own business. Slim shaming is as prevalent as fat shaming.

I think those comments are also very rude and sorry that you have experienced that. Out of interest who says these comments? Larger people? If so, it's the envy.

You see the jabs as cheating? Cheating who or what exactly?

If you have an easier way of doing something, wouldn't you want to do it? I'm assuming in that case you don't have a washing machine, or car or alarm clock or glasses or anything else that makes life eaiser for you?

I have 20/20 vision, so it's cheating when people wear glasses (or worse contacts because it's not obvious that you're visually impaired) because it's just so unnatural.

🙄

I really do not understand why people feel these drugs are 'lazy' or 'cheating'. People are overweight for all sorts of often complicated reasons and whilst 'eat less, move more' is good advice it won't help many of them lose the significant amount of weight needed to get back to a healthy level and stay there. It just won't and that's well known. So why criticise someone who is trying to lose weight and (hopefully) reduce current or future costs to the NHS? Plus be happier in themselves, and as your so called friends they should support you in whatever it takes to help you be happy and healthy.

I lost getting on for 20kg in my late 30's through diet and exercise and kept it off for a long time. It wasn't easy. Then over last 5 years or so 15kg or so has crept back on (thanks menopause & lockdowns whilst living alone ). It's so much harder to shift that weight now! I'm 1 BMI point away from qualifying for WLI. If I could take them I'd do so - not because I'm lazy but because my metabolism and lifestyle are different now. And in fact, so what if I don't have enough 'willpower', how does you, me or anyone being on WLI hurt the ones who aren't?

I think good for you not keeping it secret. And judgy, snarky friends are not your friends are they.

Well no, any of those people who can afford a private prescription could abandon the willpower and exercise until their BMI is such that they qualify. It's only their own lifestyle choices that are preventing them from accessing WLIs.

The funny thing is their comparisons to IQ and grades was meant to insult me but I actually did get all the top grades. Nice try!

To be honest, I have much more respect for someone who has worked hard for their body over taking some weight loss jab to suppress hunger to be skinnier.

The difference that separates a lot of fat people from those who are fit is usually discipline, willpower and the dedication/education to actually look after their one body.

Gym/working out and learning about proper nutrition is rarely easy but that's not an excuse. There's more to getting healthy than looking slimmer, it's about developing endurance, will power, stamina, real achievements, producing happy hormones, increasing muscle mass...all of which a jab cannot do.

So sorry but the playing field isn't levelled at all and you're being delusional if you think it is. Someone who injects themselves to reduce hunger to lose weight is not on the same level as someone who truly worked hard to get fit and eat well.

Never was a username as apt as this one. Did you fail to learn the old manta that if you have nothing nice to say, especially if you have no idea what you are talking about, it is better to say nothing.

Violinist64 · 12/05/2025 19:57

TheBossOfMe · 12/05/2025 20:00

@Zebedee999 - there's no single answer to your question, it depends on the person. Same as with any other diet method. The number of people who have been on WW or Slimming World or VLCDs or any other 100+ change diet methods time and time again and are still overweight is testament to that.

Some people will regain because they've just relied on suppression, haven't change their diet, and without it they will just go back to overeating

Some will need to be on WLIs for the rest of their lives in order to keep the weight off.

Some will use the absence of food noise to reset eating habits and make the 100+ adjustments and will maintain.

And any combination in between.

It's absolutely no different to any other diet method.

I hadn't gained in almost 2 years pre Mounjaro, just hadn't lost anything (injury caused the weight gain). So think I'm in with a good chance of keeping weight off once it's lost. There are a lot of people on WLIs like that - it's one of the screening questions that gets asked.

What a nasty post. And frankly, who cares about your respect or otherwise? I salute anyone who decides to lose weight by any method they choose to do it and if WLI help them to achieve their weight loss goals so much the better!

TheBossOfMe · 12/05/2025 20:02

And BTW @mamabeeboo . People hate fat people who turn into not fat people. They love feeling superior. And want a fat friend to make them feel better.

Type in the dangers of mounjaro and there's many. You all should really research the dangers of it. Seriously. I'd rather be fat and keep trying diets( I am overweight)

TheBossOfMe · 12/05/2025 20:03

@UnwantedOpinionBelow I don't think you understand at all about how WLIs work. You still have to manage diet and exercise. It doesn't just magically melt fat 😂

Type in the dangers of being overweight. Almost everyone in 3 generations of my family has died as a result of health issues due to being overweight (not even obese).

Ibruprofen can give you stomach ulcers and paracetamol liver failure...

Go on then. Nobody is suggesting holding you down and forcibly jabbing you with the stuff. If you want to choose the risks of being overweight over the risks of MJ, that is nobody's business other than your own.

I've read the info and the research, thanks.

I would rather take WLI and lose weight, feel better and live longer than find it difficult to do up my shoes, walk more than a few yards, worry about breaking furniture, turn invites out down because I can't face the vile comments from perfect strangers etc etc.

CatherineofIslington · 12/05/2025 20:13

In my friendship group we don’t express opinions about each others bodies. I would stay away from these people OP. Good luck with your weight loss journey.
