Welcome to thread 10 to fellow MN weight loss friends old and new!

Feel free to lurk or post, absolutely no judgement here, just support and encouragement as we’ve successfully navigated Easter and head towards Summer Holiday Season. Stop here to celebrate NSV’s, weight loss milestones and admire our new svelte frames!

I’m on W25 D1 and on my second 7.5mg pen

F in my early 50’s
H 5’ 5.5”
SW 13st 11lb
CW 10st 9lbs
GW 10st (maybe 9st 7lb if I can)
Total loss so far 44lbs

We recommend the Shotsy app to monitor the amount of MJ in the system and pleasing graphs to look at…plus the MeThreeSixty body scan app to monitor inch loss for the weeks where weight loss is slow but you might have lost body fat etc. Both are free.

Feel free to swap recipes that might inspire anyone in a food rut, tips for managing side effects, exercise tips, tips for maintenance, titrating up or down and we love a beauty/ style chat too 🥰

Oh my gosh that must have been an horrific 48 hours! I have had several root canals over the years (teeth are not my strong point). One has unfortunately failed and I have a small abscess. It only hurts occasionally (flares up and down) and it’s going to be tricky to either redo the root canal or remove the tooth altogether so we’ve been leaving it alone for now until things get worse… amazingly at yesterdays appointment the dentist observed the tissue looked good and I know I haven’t had any pain since before Christmas. Am now wondering whether a coincidence or MJ related?

Anyhoo the dentist appointment went well, thank goodness.

Sorry to hear about your DH @mounjaropen. Heart problems are very difficult. My DH has heart failure and has been recommended to go on the transplant waiting list. He is still deliberating, it is such a big decision (I think he’s also in denial, though I can’t blame him). He is however still working at the moment and his health is ok ish, albeit up and down.

On the topics of nicer things, on jeans - I love a bootcut / flare. I have thunder thighs so need something to balance them out - skinny jeans look dreadful on me unless I wear them with a knee high boot. Interestingly my barrel leg jeans (also TU @evilharpy) do not look terrible, but I haven’t braved wearing them outside of the house yet!

I’ve had lots of NSVs this week whilst going through clothes I’d squirrelled away in the attic. Lots to still slim back into but also a few things which fit. Putting lots on vinted to slim down what I have, seeing everything laid out I feel like a bit of a hoarder!

Ooh well done on the NSV clothing! 👏 Yes, it was not the best of times at all… I don’t have great teeth either - part of having had a lazy mother in terms of parenting.. suffice to say I am a very different parent! During lockdown I had a full smile overhaul - braces, veneers, crowns and implants plus whitening - the works. I think it was the trauma that set them all off! Things I learned after having abscesses included you don’t need to actually swallow the water in your mouth that provides relief- you can spit it out… I couldn’t stay for more than 15mins in the chair before needing a wee 😂😂 passing that tip onto you. Tooth pain really is the worst.

Sorry to hear about your DH. Mine is not as serious but he is in danger of needing a pacemaker as the next stage and I’m not giving up my induction hob if he ends up with one 😂 Frankly he needs to not be irresponsible when I’m not there on terms of his choices…work events especially.

Good luck with your vinted sales! I am a certified but very well organised hoarder and admit it freely 😂

I think I’m going to have a real loose skin problem as my weight goes down. My legs are already starting to look like melted candle wax around the inner thigh. Makes me sad what I have done to my body 🙁

My arms, legs and tummy are all pretty dreadful. Wobbly and lots of skin. There is only so much exercise and weight loss will do for me unless I go down the surgery route (unlikely I think, although if I ever did it would be for my arms more than anywhere else).

Wish I’d taken control of my weight a long, long time ago. I’ve yo-yo’d my whole life basically, but it was around age 25 when the sh*t really hit the fan and everything spiralled. It’s never been easy for me to lose or maintain weight though. I do hope doctors are now realising this is a thing for certain people.

Ooh @Mounjaropen what make of miracle sleeping gummies do you use? I’ve tried magnesium capsules but they don’t seem to help much. Thank you.

Here you go!

https://www.hollandandbarrett.com/shop/product/novomins-magnesium-60-gummies-6100004211

Not specifically billed as sleeping gummies but they contain Magnesium Citrate which is supposed to be absorbed more efficiently than other forms of Mg.

@Novjaro MN have hidden yet another innocuous post. No idea why. They are available from H&B and are novomins. They contain Mg Citrate which is apparently more efficiently absorbed. You’ll get the link when the post is reinstated!

Thank you! They hid my post at first too. Wonder what the offending word is?!
Will check the link out. I’ve been using the Nutrition Geek ones but haven’t noticed any difference. Thanks again.

I’ve found they work best an hour before you want to go to sleep.

Will definitely try them out. They’ve got a lot more Mg Citrate than the ones I’m taking so fingers crossed they’ll do the trick!

Me! Have been shedding like crazy and my hair is already thin and fine. I’ve actually started a hair loss serum yesterday that claims to make it grow back.

Oh which one? I’ve been looking at these too…
apologies if you’ve answered this already as catching up on thread

Whattodowithaminute · 24/04/2025 20:50

Hi all, I’m realising maintenance will be a rocky road… had my last injection on 8th April. Generally did quite well for following 2 weeks on holiday with slight gain of 1kg. Last 2 days it’s like a have no self control and want to eat everything I can see and forage through cupboards to find… assume the levels have just dropped off to nothing in my system…injected today but lower dose than previous as bonus dose, feeling no effect so far…panicked and ordered a 5mg pen. Have maintenance appointment in 2 weeks so hoping I can keep on top of it until then and then discuss a strategy/long term plan. Feel a bit disappointed overall as really hoped this would be the long term solution and success story for me but it was a sharp awakening that need to continue the work and find some self control…

Oh dear. What did your macros say about your calorie intake? Did you keep up the good work? Move enough? You’ve worked really hard.

Come on, you've got this, don’t panic. The main thing is you have realised and have immediately done something about it. Complete change from your last pre-MJ blip I’d wager. Keep going 💪💪💪

W23 update for me!

SW 90 kg
CW 69.1 kg
total loss 20.9

0.9 down this week (was lighter yesterday!)

I think I have lost some hair recently so am going to really focus on protein this week as I have been a bit random with my diet lately.

Super pleased with my progress, am dropping down to 5 mg tomorrow as I have 2x 5mg pen in fridge which should see me to my maintenance meeting, will see how I do next week and might increase dose if I don’t lose, (have been on 7.5 for 5 weeks)

well done to everyone for the progress! And thanks for the new post @Mounjaropen

Fab result! Well done!

Lots of Daily Fail scare stories this week about MJ and this week…hair loss. You’d think we’re all going to end up bald the way it’s written 🙄 looking at the person in the story I’d wager the bad pink hair dye is the more likely culprit…!

I think I’ll try it properly for a week starting tomorrow and see if the tender scalp persists. Maybe that just means it’s working? It says it will take at least 3 months to see any results, though.

This is what I’m scared of as well. I’ve taken my jab a day late on occasion and I feel that overwhelming hunger return. And that’s whilst I’ve still got MJ in my system. I feel I’ve approached this well. With slow and steady weight loss. Upping exercise. Tracking my calories and macros. Focusing on protein. But I’m scared of not being able to keep the weight off once off MJ. I think we will all need to support each other and be honest about the struggles and ways we find to keep going.

We need our resident trichology expert @lovealongbath to give the ingredients the once over 😉

This is not a product I have experience of.

Looking at the list of ingredients it appears to be product using natural products instead of chemicals.
Pea sprout appears to be an up and coming natural ingredient which claims to promote hair growth.
My personal opinion is I would question the efficacy of it, however, as I said, I have no knowledge of the product.
It claims you will see a difference in 3 months, but because of the hair growth cycle, you would have naturally reoccurring hair growth anyhow.

From google…

What are the benefits of pea sprout extract?

Pea sprout extract has several benefits for your hair health, such as:

  • Increasing the ratio of anagen to telogen hairs by 78% after three months of use
  • Reducing hair loss by 28% after four weeks of use
  • Improving hair density and thickness
  • Enhancing hair strength and elasticity
  • Providing nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, amino acids and antioxidants.

personally, I’m sceptical, however as you’ve purchased it, keep applying and let us know how you get on.

I agree. The biggest eye opener for me has been understanding my BMR. We are told that ‘women need 2000 calories per day’ but this is 600 more than my BMR and so whilst I would inevitably use some of those on activity, if I were exceptionally sedentary, those 600 calories per day every day over the course of a year becomes an issue so I need to move more. I hadn’t really considered that before, congratulating myself because I’d eaten 1800 calories but also not registering the fact that I hadn’t achieved even 2000 steps. I think moving forward I my plan is not to give into hunger and be miserable but to eat mindfully, and not get so hungry that I’m reaching for a bag of crisps in desperation. Exercise, for me moving forward will be my new norm and fingers crossed will keep my weight stable.

Oh absolutely. Being very petite it is now so obvious to me why I put weight on so easily. My BMR is less than 1200 calories. So I am always going to have to restrict what I eat. I will need to count calories for life.

Good morning to my fellow balding expensive death jabbers! (Or so the Daily Fail would have us believe)

After a mixed week which has included indulgences in chocolate and roast lamb, feeling a bit glum with a cough/ cold, but also some exercise and moderation I’ve managed to lose 1.6lbs. Takes me to 13 stone 3.2lbs… I’ll take it! Most excitingly though I now have a BMI of 29.9 - I have just scraped into ‘overweight’ 🎉😅
