Welcome to thread 10 to fellow MN weight loss friends old and new!

Feel free to lurk or post, absolutely no judgement here, just support and encouragement as we’ve successfully navigated Easter and head towards Summer Holiday Season. Stop here to celebrate NSV’s, weight loss milestones and admire our new svelte frames!

I’m on W25 D1 and on my second 7.5mg pen

F in my early 50’s
H 5’ 5.5”
SW 13st 11lb
CW 10st 9lbs
GW 10st (maybe 9st 7lb if I can)
Total loss so far 44lbs

We recommend the Shotsy app to monitor the amount of MJ in the system and pleasing graphs to look at…plus the MeThreeSixty body scan app to monitor inch loss for the weeks where weight loss is slow but you might have lost body fat etc. Both are free.

Feel free to swap recipes that might inspire anyone in a food rut, tips for managing side effects, exercise tips, tips for maintenance, titrating up or down and we love a beauty/ style chat too 🥰

And lo, finally, on the 45i2822456643 billionth day of weight being stuck, she did eventually see a whoosh! 😂 Just a mini one, but a whoosh is a whoosh and it was logged Immediately!

🥳🥳🥳🥳 hope it’s continued this morning!

Weigh in Day.
3rd week of 10mg (lost count of total number of weeks)

SW 15st 5
CW 13st 3
WL this week 2lb
Total weight loss 3st 2lb
(Current target 12.5, haven't been there since I was in my 20s, I'm now mid 50's)
5' 8"

The next stone level is coming into view!

10mg is suiting me well, ie a moderate but not severe amount of side effects, balanced with a good level of effectiveness spanning most of the week. (It still takes over 24 hours to build up, and drops away on day 7, but not as much as on 7.5mg). Will get 10mg again.

Coming Clean..... Having been brave enough to finally share with all you lovely losers last week, I have now told my husband and 3 grown up DC that I am taking WLI's, (AKA Death jabs, but I didn't mention that). They have all been very complementary about how much weight I have lost and were very understanding and supportive about my getting help with the WLI. I do feel very relieved to have told them, although I have stressed that it is confidential.

Upcoming NSV: I've got my lower sized clothes out of storage and I am going to find some lovely things I can now fit into. Clothes that I haven't worn for over 7 years. It's like shopping for new clothes without the hassle or expense!

I am definitely noticing that losing weight in my mid 50's is different from when I was younger. It's as if my outer body is taking longer to shrink, compared to what is underneath! As mentioned previously, time and exercise (ie patience) will be what is needed.

Onwards and Downwards....

Well done on all counts! Amazing loss and it’s great you are getting support from your family.

Shopping in your own wardrobe is fab isn’t it? And I’m now at my early thirties weight and looking forward to getting to my twenties weight 🤞

Keep going! We’re a similar age so you are right, it does take patience to not get frustrated that we haven’t simply ‘snapped back’ into our old selves.

I'm becoming a little snaccident prone in maintenance - I've had two custard cream crises in a matter of just a few days, notably after a couple of glasses of wine have annihilated residual will power. As I titrate down, the old me habits are trying to find their way back in.

On one hand I comfort myself that, when I was 2.5 stone heavier, I was keeping myself there and not endlessly creeping up and so I can maintain, my exercise levels are now much better (actually joined a gym) and I am seriously motivated by liking myself much more at this weight. On the other hand, on the basis I am lucky enough to be able to afford to stay on MJ, I very much plan to do so!

At the end of this week it will be 6 months on MJ - longest period I've ever sustained a weight management process. Glory be to Eli Lilly!

Glory be indeed! 😂

You can definitely offset snaccidents with exercise, the danger is when you forget that. Or the snaccidents behind a daily thing…

Keep going! I think most of us feel much happier with our lighter selves - both physically and mentally 🥰

Update this morning from me

After a night on the rose wine/champagne at the VE Day beacon lighting event 🙈 my Weigh in this morning is 10st 3.2lbs…so only 0.6lbs lighter than last Sunday but 2.8lbs lighter than this time last week. It is however a whopping 5lbs lighter than Tuesday morning after my blow-out bank holiday weekend. Daily weighing definitely keeps me accountable so I will continue with that.

No wine for me this evening…. I’m definitely paying for it this morning…!

Yay!! Long may it continue!

StarShapedWindow · 09/05/2025 08:51

@Bigsigh24 Well done, that’s amazing! I think I’ll do the same as you and try to maintain without MJ. I feel like I know what I should be eating and I want to be able to maintain naturally. If I can’t I’ll re-think!

That’s a fantastic result - loosing after a blow out BH and celebrations last night! 🎉🎉🎉

StarShapedWindow · 09/05/2025 09:00

Weighed myself today and have lost 3 pounds this week - my biggest loss so far - usually it’s between 1-2 pounds. Taking me to 9.1 stone.

I’ve got a wedding today and my aim is to drink 3 or 4 glasses (there day and night) and be sober on my return 🤞

jay55 · 09/05/2025 09:47

morning, happy Friday all.

@StarShapedWindowthats amazing. Brilliant to have such a big loss this far along.

My scales have finally moved after 3 weeks of no action. I’m into the 80s, I’ve hit the 50kg total down, only 16kg of that since mounjaro. So I’m 9.7kg away from my second goal (first was to get under 100kg).

However I don’t expect it to stick, I went out for dinner on Wednesday and knew as soon as my dishes arrived I’d ordered wrong. There was a bisque and a Thermidor on the menu and I ordered the crab Thermidor whilst picturing bisque in my head.
It was far too rich, I managed a couple of bites with some bread, suppression kicked in and I tried to focus on the crudo and pickled cabbage which were fab and much more mj friendly.
But damage done, it all came back up as soon as I got home(so glad I made it home and it didn’t depart on the tube) and I only had a couple of biscuits yesterday as was feeling so rough.

But today I will celebrate.

Also on loose skin, my boobs were the first place I lost enough to get wretched wrinkles but things seem to be repairing themselves and while they are somewhat deflated balloons, they are not as wrinkly and terrifying as they were. So I’m hopeful my arms and stomach can recover in time too.

Goldleafcat · 09/05/2025 09:50

StarShapedWindow · 08/05/2025 07:37

I find the problem is once I’ve had 2 glasses I loose the good sense to stop and go on to have another 2 and maybe another 2 and then I feel awful the next day and regret it. I’ve got a wedding on Friday and I’m determined not to have more than 3 glasses.

To anyone on here who is/has been a slim version of themselves do you always have a few wobbly bits which you tone with exercise or does it mean there’s still weight to loose?

@Goldleafcat sorry about your back - it’s such an awful
pain. I slipped a disk once and actually passed out with the pain - it was the most painful thing that’s ever happened to me and I say that as someone who has broken their big toe and had 2 home births. Sending you lots of healing wishes and I hope they’ve given you some really good painkillers?

I’m also worried about protein, I tried a protein shake but it was so sweet and disgusting I couldn’t drink it. I’m eating chicken breast and I’m going to buy some Greek yoghurt and I’ll try having a few eggs every day too. It’s amazing how little protein the stuff I enjoy contains!

Thank you @StarShapedWindow

That sounds like it was horrendous. Hope your back issues are resolved / well managed now?

I’ve got codeine and the GP said I could go back for stronger stuff if needed (but they do come with drowsiness etc). I’ve been pushing on with a combo of codeine, ibuprofen and paracetamol for now. I think my back has improved slightly, but I’m very nervous in case it goes back to Tuesday’s levels. I have a physio appointment next Tuesday 🤞

Hope everyone is doing well? Weirdly I’ve not had any notifications of updates to the thread so I’ve missed loads, will be reading through it all this morning!

Braved weighing myself this morning, and it’s the same as last Friday. Could be worse I suppose, it’s not been the main thing on my mind this week! Although, I haven’t been to the loo (no.2!) since Tuesday, and Tuesday was the first time since Saturday! Painkillers are causing a bit of a traffic jam inside I think! Will be increasing my dose of that psyllium husk stuff! (Or breaking out the big guns of fybogel - not tried it before - do we think it’s ok with MJ?)

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend

Glad you are on the mend! Constipation is the worst isn't it? And won't help the pressure on your back if you feel a bit backed up. Is there anyway of using a foodstuff you know gets things going rather than relying on fybogel? For me, I have pineapple with lime zest/juice and grated fresh ginger on the top and that usually gets things going. Or something heavy on the chilli? The danger of relying on fybogel etc is that you create a 'lazy' bowel.

I'd be tempted to get the stronger stuff for the weekend - you must be exhausted from the constant pain and a good night's sleep will do you the world of good.

anyway, no gain is positive - you won't have been anywhere near as mobile this week so be kind to yourself. Hope your DH has stepped up this week?

Congrats on the losses! Awesome!

My boobs were the first to lose weight but bizarrely I have no wrinkles on them. My thighs however...a whole different story!!

SW: 19st 9lbs
CW:16st 0lbs

2nd GW 15st 4lbs

No change this week, officially, but for some reason I'm always slightly lighter mid week than on my official weigh in day so I did briefly nudge into the 15s. Hopefully I can log that officially next week.

Aww thanks. I have been clean eating all week so the diligence paid off I guess. A (male) neighbour said to me last night 'You look fantastic, and if you don't mind me saying at least 10 years younger' Quite sweet, but I think I look older and more haggard 😂

I’m sure you look fantastic!

I am much more aware of wrinkles etc now, but despite that, I know I definitely look better in the face overall when I’m slimmer. I think most people do.

Thank you - I’ll try some fruit (I’m rubbish at eating fruit, fab with veg, but fruit…) (unless wine counts!). I did make an extra spicy turtle bean chilli last night but still no joy.

DH did the nursery drop offs this week (I’m worse in the mornings) and is lifting DS when he needs it. He’s meant to have DS on a Friday but I’m currently lying on the sofa, under a blanket, with DS! I’ve been working through this week (on and off with rest) but decided I need to prioritise rest today. Will see how that goes! Baby shark cartoon on tv. Dreadful parenting but we are cuddling 😅

MounjNewb · 08/05/2025 19:39

@lovealongbath - I passed your excellent hair loss advice to DW who is really not digging how thin her hair has become during her recent weight loss. She's had a couple of past episodes of thinning which she's put down to stress but is also wondering if it's just a cyclical thing.

Anyway - she has looked at both Nioxin and minoxidil options but is worried about having read that once you start with either of them, you can't stop without the thinning returning - is that true?

@MounjNewb @lovealongbath after reading these tips and some reviews I’ve just ordered the Nioxin day and night serums (buy one get one half price on Nioxin products at Boots). Pricey but hopefully will help. I am also very unimpressed with the hair loss!

jay55 · 09/05/2025 11:00

Foods that speed things up for me are sweet potato and popcorn. Possibly all forms of corn but I hate sweetcorn so avoid it anyway.

@Mounjaropenthat was lovely of your neighbour. Enjoy the compliment, I’m sure it’s only you who thinks haggard.

@PinkArtam sure the scales will shift again and you’ll get the new stone in no time. Sticking with it through the slow times is probably the biggest benefit of mj for me, I’d have given up by now on other diets.

StarShapedWindow · 09/05/2025 11:59

@jay55 your poor thing, that sounds horrendous, I bet you felt much better after if left your system. Thank God you made it home!

@Goldleafcat it’s a lot better now thanks, not lifting babies/toddlers anymore definitely helps, plus never wearing high heels.

Personally I’d take the offer of stronger painkillers - if you don’t need them great but if it gets worse you’re covered.

@PinkArt so close to the next stone down and your second target! 🎉🎉

@Mounjaropen I bet you don’t look more haggard at all! One of the reasons I started MJ was because I went to a health spa with my husband for a weekend and I noticed the older slimmer women looked better than the younger larger women - horribly vain and judgemental I know and I love the body confidence movement but I’m 46 and programmed to see slim as the holy grail.

Also J had really bad loose wrinkly skin on my thighs about ) weeks ago and it’s improved a lot. I haven’t done anything to it - no lotions etc. it’s just firmed up.

PinkArt · 09/05/2025 13:36

@jay55 & @StarShapedWindow I'm soooo close. 16 stone 0.1 pounds. Roughly the weight of a deck of cards before I drop that stone bracket.
It's days like this I hate that my scales are so reliable - with my shitty old ones I could have just shuffled them around until I found a floorboard I'm lighter on 😂

Jellybaby30 · 09/05/2025 14:32

Going on a family holiday tomorrow 3.5 stone lighter than when I started in November - what a good feeling! Love that I'm not worried about clothes, not worried about what I will be eating ( jabbing tomorrow as normal before we fly). Still 2.5 stone to go (more 3)but the brain space is wonderful. So glad I found out about MJ on mumsnet!

Della82 · 09/05/2025 16:03

Love everyone’s stories and taking positives about skin just needing time to catch up!

Having a blood test today as hair loss can also be iron deficiency which is something I’ve suffered with in the past
