Welcome to thread 10 to fellow MN weight loss friends old and new!

Feel free to lurk or post, absolutely no judgement here, just support and encouragement as we’ve successfully navigated Easter and head towards Summer Holiday Season. Stop here to celebrate NSV’s, weight loss milestones and admire our new svelte frames!

I’m on W25 D1 and on my second 7.5mg pen

F in my early 50’s
H 5’ 5.5”
SW 13st 11lb
CW 10st 9lbs
GW 10st (maybe 9st 7lb if I can)
Total loss so far 44lbs

We recommend the Shotsy app to monitor the amount of MJ in the system and pleasing graphs to look at…plus the MeThreeSixty body scan app to monitor inch loss for the weeks where weight loss is slow but you might have lost body fat etc. Both are free.

Feel free to swap recipes that might inspire anyone in a food rut, tips for managing side effects, exercise tips, tips for maintenance, titrating up or down and we love a beauty/ style chat too 🥰

Genuinely life-changing. Weird side effects include your feet not screaming from wearing heels. And no DOMS the next day from my experience. Also a bonus!

No DOMS is definitely an attractive prospect. I overdid the deadlifting last Wednesday and couldn't walk properly till Sunday and my husband had to tie my laces.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 08/05/2025 08:43

Skin will tighten up gradually after you reach a stable weight. I’ve watched every series of Botched, and the plastic surgeons will take out someone’s massive boob implants, and the skin will be all thin and saggy and stretched. They tell them to wait 3 or 4 months before they can put in a smaller replacement implant, and in that time the skin shrinks and thickens and generally becomes much healthier. So I think give it some time - right now most of us are still losing, so our skin can’t keep up, but it will improve.

I remember posting a while ago moaning about my C section overhang and wondering if it would ever go. I can now report that it hasn’t gone, but it has shrunk and I feel much better about it. I rashly tried on a string bikini and that was a mistake - it’s not improved that much - but it looks much better in normal clothes (and even bikinis with big pants!).

Me too! Did a quads workout on Sunday (first since January, ahem) and I’ve been hobbling around the house groaning ever since. My thighs are still sore today! My new 5kg weights have arrived though so I must get on. (I know 5kg isn’t heavy - for some reason we have lots of very heavy weights in the house and not enough lighter ones.)

Della82 · 08/05/2025 08:50

@Mounjaropen i think your activity yesterday negates the need for evening treadmill action 👏

I am a massive foodie too and possibly the issue is that I’ve been to country pubs (OH’s choice) and I can’t eat pastry at the moment and most food options have been served with mash or chips 😂

at home I’m eating simply, chicken/fish/steak with salad or green veg and if I want a carb then Quinoa or whole grain rice poor OH loves beige food and stodge so he isn’t enjoying life 😂

Pasta and bread have always been my downfall (especially if home made) and I cannot eat carbs and lose weight so I need to be super mindful of this! Wine makes me crave them too 😂😂😂

I think this is why Jennifer Aniston raves about it. Obviously if you’ve done zero exercise for months or years you will feel something the next day, but it is not like any other exercise form that I’ve experienced, mainly because the aim of Pvolve is to lengthen the muscles as well as strengthen and the ultimate aim is to get to muscle failure so that your body lays down new muscle fibres. Yesterday I did the long heavyweight workout with a pair of 6 kg dumbbells and got two muscle failure on my biceps during each set. I can feel something in my biceps today, but it is not agonising if that makes sense? I also find it to be quite balanced, so you are either doing a whole body, or a lower body, or an upper body workout featuring all of the muscle groups so that you are not solely feeling it in your hamstrings or glutes, etc. I also like the fact that despite having taught or used system for years, the instructors wobble during the class or end up having to tap out. They are at pains to stress that even after years are doing it, it is still very challenging!

I totally get where you’re coming from,my DH loves pasta, pastry and has a particular penchant for a quiche. Absolutely not my thing (unless I’ve made the pasta myself) so we tend to eat differently anyway. Obviously, neither of our DH’s have thought to cook their own food 🤣

Fake tan does help disguise the wobbly bits that’s for sure!

I’m going to see what the clinic I’m going to on Monday says about RF on my tummy and thighs. I have a feeling that might speed the process up?

Obviously now I’m off to watch a pointless amount of botched after my tennis lesson! 😆

I made crustless quiche for him once -you would think I’d served him dog food 😂

if he has to cook for himself he hot foots it to M&S and gets something beige that needs heating in the oven, his veg of choice is peas 😂

MounjNewb · 08/05/2025 11:49

I'm becoming a little snaccident prone in maintenance - I've had two custard cream crises in a matter of just a few days, notably after a couple of glasses of wine have annihilated residual will power. As I titrate down, the old me habits are trying to find their way back in.

On one hand I comfort myself that, when I was 2.5 stone heavier, I was keeping myself there and not endlessly creeping up and so I can maintain, my exercise levels are now much better (actually joined a gym) and I am seriously motivated by liking myself much more at this weight. On the other hand, on the basis I am lucky enough to be able to afford to stay on MJ, I very much plan to do so!

At the end of this week it will be 6 months on MJ - longest period I've ever sustained a weight management process. Glory be to Eli Lilly!

MagnoliaTreePetals · 08/05/2025 12:18

Weigh in Day.
3rd week of 10mg (lost count of total number of weeks)

SW 15st 5
CW 13st 3
WL this week 2lb
Total weight loss 3st 2lb
(Current target 12.5, haven't been there since I was in my 20s, I'm now mid 50's)
5' 8"

The next stone level is coming into view!

10mg is suiting me well, ie a moderate but not severe amount of side effects, balanced with a good level of effectiveness spanning most of the week. (It still takes over 24 hours to build up, and drops away on day 7, but not as much as on 7.5mg). Will get 10mg again.

Coming Clean..... Having been brave enough to finally share with all you lovely losers last week, I have now told my husband and 3 grown up DC that I am taking WLI's, (AKA Death jabs, but I didn't mention that). They have all been very complementary about how much weight I have lost and were very understanding and supportive about my getting help with the WLI. I do feel very relieved to have told them, although I have stressed that it is confidential.

Upcoming NSV: I've got my lower sized clothes out of storage and I am going to find some lovely things I can now fit into. Clothes that I haven't worn for over 7 years. It's like shopping for new clothes without the hassle or expense!

I am definitely noticing that losing weight in my mid 50's is different from when I was younger. It's as if my outer body is taking longer to shrink, compared to what is underneath! As mentioned previously, time and exercise (ie patience) will be what is needed.

Onwards and Downwards....

SerenePeer · 08/05/2025 13:15

And lo, finally, on the 45i2822456643 billionth day of weight being stuck, she did eventually see a whoosh! 😂 Just a mini one, but a whoosh is a whoosh and it was logged Immediately!

evilharpy · 08/05/2025 08:31

I also joined pvolve and bought all the equipment from Vinted, and have done a grand total of two classes! I haven't been doing nothing, I just haven't been doing pvolve, but given how creaky I am I think I really need to! @StarShapedWindow maybe we need to be pvolve buddies!

Yes! I certainly need some accountability. The classes look great - we’ll be just like Jennifer in no time!

StarShapedWindow · 08/05/2025 14:29

That’s fantastic about your C section overhang - I know they’re notoriously difficult to shift but it sounds like yours is really changing. I love Botched, I can’t believe how some ‘surgeons’ (butchers) leave their patients. I also can’t believe (channeling my inner Victor Meldrew) they don’t get struck off! Good news about skin shrinkage because my stomach looks awful.

StarShapedWindow · 08/05/2025 14:30

Sorry, that was in response to @TooExtraImmatureCheddar

Cantbesure · 08/05/2025 17:15

Being very dense @Mounjaropenbut what is muscle failure -what does it feel like? Let us know what the clinic says about RF. Emma Guns has done a reel today about how excess skin feels, emotionally.

@MagnoliaTreePetalswell done on outing yourself and getting into smaller clothes.

I love Botched! It’s fascinating. It has, however, put me off most forms of cosmetic surgery (which is probably no bad thing!).

MounjNewb · 08/05/2025 19:39

@lovealongbath - I passed your excellent hair loss advice to DW who is really not digging how thin her hair has become during her recent weight loss. She's had a couple of past episodes of thinning which she's put down to stress but is also wondering if it's just a cyclical thing.

Anyway - she has looked at both Nioxin and minoxidil options but is worried about having read that once you start with either of them, you can't stop without the thinning returning - is that true?

You can use both products temporarily to aid hair growth.
I would not advise using daily, twice a week is more than sufficient.
Once you are satisfied that new hair is growing, you could go back to the shampoos you previously used.
However, If your wife opts for Nioxin, I suspect your wife may like how her hair feels with her new regime and then could use occasionally as a wee hair treat.

I initially mentioned the starter pack which has 3 products in it but if she liked it then I would buy the litre bottles of cleanser and scalp therapy and this would be more cost effective.

I am in no way affiliated to Nioxin, but I am promoting it as I know it works.
Regaine also works but in my experience it leaves a sticky tacky residue on your hair.

Followed this thread since started in November and I’m now one pound away from target of 11stone, lost 3st 9lb though tomorrow I could be two pound away cause I’ve always floated up and down a pound before it settles.

i sold a lot of clothes on Vinted because I was convinced I’d never loose the weight to get in them, fortunately I still had some and going into the loft to find these and fit in them is such a brilliant feeling.

mounjaro has been the best thing ever for me, little side affects , gone upto 7.5 and back down to 5 now to tirate off it, I’m not doing maintenance, I know what I need to do, though obvs a little nervous about it.

happy to be in a 12 now and my brain is catching up when I look in the mirror cause I’m still shocked at the difference. Hope everyone has a successful journey also x

currently on 7.5 but have my 10 pen coming tomorrow to start next week.
initially weight loss was brilliant but it’s slowed right down.
I still feel very fat. I know I’m not but I come from a family of skinny sisters and I’m the fat sister all my life.

no real issues so far apart from sluggish digestion.

I really need to look at pvolve. I’ve fallen out of love with running. Walking is lovely (2 spaniels so we walk a lot) but running has become a chore.

i have some positives to share tonight:

  1. dh cooked the loveliest, diet-friendly dinner that was truly tasty. Put in actual effort and didn’t just do freezer food. He hates cooking but does ALL the washing for 3 teenage DDs and me.
  2. Big announcement: wtaf I have a thigh gap! (Literally just noticed getting out the bath) I have been lighter than I am now but weight distribution must have been different. It’s not massive but it’s a thing. My chub rub shorts may not be essential in the summer… I’ll likely still wear them.
nb: tummy area still needs work!

Thigh gap you say? 🧐 How absolutely fabulous! 👏👏👏

Pvolve is great for toning /mobility but it isn’t a cardio replacement per se (although there are some faster classes designed to elevate the heart rate). It’s definitely changed my body shape for the better though. I’m a big fan of an incline walk if you have a treadmill?... Less stress on joints and gets the same results as running albeit it takes a bit longer in each session.

Result with your DH cooking!. Did you try my interchangeable husband/dog training programme? 😂

Welcome! 2.5stones lost is awesome! Well done! 👏

We’re a similar height and started at a similar starting weight so I can tell you at your CW you are most definitely not ‘very fat’ at all!

Family dynamics play at lot with many of us, but I’d say look at Khloe Kardashian - once the ‘bigger’ sister and now unquestionably has the better physique IMO - and she’s worked really hard for it. Keep going! 💪

@Cantbesure

Muscle failure is when you are doing sets of reps and literally cannot lift another rep so have to stop. If you don’t have muscle failure in the sequence it’s an indicator you might need to move up a weight next time you do that movement.
