Welcome to thread 8 to MN weight loss friends old and new!
Feel free to lurk or post, absolutely no judgement here, just support and encouragement as we Spring forward into a new season...and consider new swimwear and Summer Wardrobes ❤️

I’m on W17 D3 and on my fourth 5mg pen
F in my early 50’s
H 5’ 5.5”
SW 13st 11lb
CW 11st 6.4 lb
GW 10st (maybe 9st 7lb if I don’t look like a melted candle)
Total loss so far 32.6lbs

Recommend the Shotsy app to monitor MJ in the system and pleasing graphs to look at…plus the MeThreeSixty body scan app to monitor inch loss for the weeks where weight loss is slow but you might have lost body fat etc. Both are free.
Feel free to swap recipes that might inspire anyone in a food rut, tips for side effects, exercise tips, tips for titrating up or down and we love a beauty/ style chat too 🥰

🤞🏻

Are you eating enough protein? That might help?

Good point - probably not to be honest. After years of unsuccessfully tracking macros it's been a relief to track nothing! But I've just stocked up on greek yogurt so will get some of that in me next week. For the first 3 days after jabbing I have no appetite for meat, so end up eating mostly veggies. Great for fibre, not so great for protein.

SerenePeer · 16/03/2025 09:15

@teenlifemum that's a lot to have going on. 💐 Hope you have someone who can support you as you support your parents. 💐

happy Sunday everyone! I was wondering if anyone has spoken to their prescriber about maintenance doses yet? Mine has advised going back down to 2.5 from 5 ml. I think that sounds reasonable but curious to hear if anyone has heard differently?

I haven't updated for a while, but I officially hit my goal weight this week and weigh 9 stone for the first time in maybe 18 years, having lost over 3.5 stone since November. I didn't even manage to get to this weight for my wedding 12 years ago... although admittedly I was a lot more toned and much fitter!

But now I'm here it actually feels like a very precarious weight to try to maintain, and I think that to some extent the hard work really starts now as I have to resist old eating habits. I really don't want to gain the weight back again. Part of me thinks I should keep dieting to give myself a buffer of a few more pounds, but at what stage does it stop? Anyway, today I'm taking the win and putting on my new size 8 jeans!

Today’s weigh in is 10st 7 - 2lbs to go to tip into “healthy” bmi. I’m determined to achieve that before the end of the month when I turn 43!… but also really fancy a McDonald’s banana milkshake and I’m out for dinner tonight with alcohol 😬

On the down side, life took another dip following mum’s cancer diagnosis. A week later and dad’s joined the party with a lung cancer diagnosis. 2025 isn’t my favourite year so far but we’ll get through it. Some good news would be nice right now though.

💐so sorry to hear about your family's diagnoses. I have been there and it's so difficult for the whole family, but hopefully it can bring you moments of renewed closeness too.

So sorry @TeenLifeMum. That is absolutely crap. Not what any of you need right now. Thinking of you all. Well done for staying committed!

How wonderful ! So happy for you 🥰

I think that sounds reasonable. I’m toying between going up to 7.5mg to get a kick start or riding it out on 5mg to get the last 20lbs off (albeit more slowly) to enable me to come off MJ more easily. I’m still in two minds really. This week’s to do list includes contacting suppliers to ask about this. Will report back when I get some answers. I’m 17.2 lbs off my first goal weight and ideally I’d like to get to 9.5 stone to allow for fluctuation without requiring a new wardrobe. We’ll see!

Inspiration !

Please let us know how you get on with maintenance. I’m worried about this when I get there

Cantbesure · 16/03/2025 10:31

Amazing work @lostinchaos

have a call booked in with oushk at the end of April to discuss maintenance. My original target was to get to a healthy BMI which I’m about a pound away from. I’ve revised this to BMI 24 which is about 4.5lbs away. But being so close I think I’ll try for a flat 8 stone (11.5lbs or so away), around BMI 23. So by my maintenance appointment I should (assuming weight loss stays at around my average so far) be close to target.

keeping the weight off takes up a lot of my headspace at the moment. Not overeating is so easy on MJ. I was out for a meal on Friday and ate about half my main. I went for a hike yesterday and packed a Tupperware of protein and salad. It’s so easy to just eat to fuel and not feel deprived. I know this will be a struggle without MJ in my corner.

I’m on 7.5mg and loving this dose so far. My suppression lasts all week and I’m currently losing a steady 2lbs a week. I’m interested to understand if titrating down will be a good option for me once I reach target.

appearance wise I feel that I’ve reached some sort of milestone where I now look slim. So many people have commented this week on how well I look and being ‘tiny’ (I’m not!). And I feel and look slim to myself too. It’s a fabulous feeling!

I feel fitter and stronger too. I did a hike yesterday that I made with friends about a year ago when I was 2 stone heavier. Going up the steep hill was sooo much easier 2 stone lighter. Last time I struggled and my calves ached and I had to keep stopping. This time I really enjoyed the climb.

evilharpy · 16/03/2025 10:39

Ended the week with 5lb off, delighted with that!

@TeenLifeMum 💐💐💐

TeenLifeMum · 16/03/2025 12:07

Thank you for all the kind comments. We’re doing okay and dh is being wonderful as usual.

Meal out last night with friends was lovely - Thai food and I went for a vegetable green curry with a broccoli side. No rice as that always bloats me. I was so full I couldn’t finish it but friends all had desserts so I had a Jasmine tea so I didn’t feel I was missing a course.

2st 2lbs lost (impressed by all the 3st+ losses - I’ve definitely stalled over the last few weeks but still heading in the right direction).

I’m looking forward to the weather warming up so I can get our kayaking - and dh and I can both go in the tandem kayak as we’re under the weight limit now… previously I’ve always taken dc in it but now our combined weight is well under the limit.

Quite a few nsv with nice comments from colleagues at work. I’m rubbish at responding as it feels awkward and they do ask what I’ve been doing - I’m replying “reducing calorie intake and making better choices”, which is true but I don’t mention mj. I would if it was someone genuinely wanting help who was overweight, but not the skinny crowd.

Cantbesure · 16/03/2025 12:13

@evilharpywow. That’s an amazing loss. Well done.

@TeenLifeMumglad to hear you are Ok. It must be a very worrying time. Good to hear you enjoyed your meal out with friends. I’ve told some people I am on MJ but I don’t think it’s information I want to share freely. With my work pals I’ve talked about calorie counting, logging on MFP and my increased exercise, which is all true.

TeenLifeMum · 16/03/2025 12:32

@Cantbesure i have 2 friends who know - one who recommended it (who is now struggling because she had to stop over Christmas due to money so had to restart and the 2.5 is doing nothing this time round) and one who really struggles with weight loss and was down about her efforts not working when mine were. I didn’t want to mislead her.

MounjNewb · 16/03/2025 12:33

So many great updates today. I did my official weekly weigh in and was happily surprised to see I'd held my mid-week weight, more or less - 10st 10.25. My original goal weight.

Have decided that I will push on a few more pounds and set myself the long-term goal of sticking between 10st7 and 10st10...

I must say i feel a little bereft in a weird way today - I've taken so much pleasure from the process of losing weight and seeing the weekly progress. I'm going to miss it. Feels now that it's just the work of maintaining now, without the joy of losing. I know - silly thought and 'I should be so lucky'!!

Re-tried to book Oushk consultation this morning (now from 27 May) - payment system still won't work for me. May try someone else!😡

This is fantastic, especially finding the difference in the hike. It really goes to show how much easier it is to be active when we are lighter.

A vicious / virtuous cycle depending on how heavy we are!

Jellybaby30 · 16/03/2025 13:06

I've 20kg to go but emailed my provider Asda recently Re maintenance and the reply was clearly cut and pasted from their Web page but I was pleased it basically said you can either stop cold turkey, tirate down or choose the maintenance dose which works for me and continue so long as BMI doesn't go below 22 ish. It also said if you stop when reach your goal you can restart within 6 months without having to fit the obese criteria. After 6mths off MJ you have to properly Re start and meet the starting criteria

Jellybaby30 · 16/03/2025 13:08

Obvs with 20kg to go I'm a long way off maintenance but currently I hope to reach a BMI of 23 ish, maybe 24, and plan to use a maintenance dose for maybe 3-6mth of 5mg or ideally 2.5mg just to get used to sticking to the healthy eating and exercising but I don't want to take MJ forever

Cantbesure · 16/03/2025 13:54

@TeenLifeMumah I’ve read a few things where people have said it’s not as effective if you start it a second time. Which is a bit of a worry. What dosage was she in when she had to stop? Fingers crossed it works for her when she reaches this again?

@GoldleafcatI thought I was fittish last time as I was running again but I really struggled on the ascent and had to keep stopping. I couldn’t keep up with my friends. Yesterday I was romping up the same hill!

@MounjNewbit must feel fantastic to be at goal. That’s a pain about oushk. I’ve read they are very receptive to messages on whattsapp. But there are other providers in this space now. The section on maintenance on mounj.co.uk is useful.

TeenLifeMum · 16/03/2025 14:30

@Cantbesure she was on the highest dose - been on it since July.

random223 · 16/03/2025 15:04
