@fortyfix You didn't ask me, but I was on MJ from April to July last year and lost 12kg, then I came off it and since then have gained back 6kg. I felt absolutely ravenous and wanted to eat all the shit stuff HOWEVER I was dealing with a bereavement at the time so hard to say how much of it was emotional. Either way I am honestly amazed I only regained back half, I feel like pre MJ I would have gained 12kg just by looking at a pack of biscuits 😂

HoratioBum · 28/02/2025 10:41

@sweetpickle2

Oh that's interesting about hummus- yes, I hadn't considered the oil content! Thanks!

Well done everyone on your recent losses and NSVs !
Someone mentioned maybe down thread or on the previous thread about an app that accurately calculates your calories and macros . I can't find the post now but does anyone know what it is or can recommend one ?

I use Nutracheck for tracking. I think it was £27 for a year. You can use this code for a free month to try it out

If the MJ is delivered today, as we are having a chippy tea (just chips and gravy for me) and I won't be home until 5.30pm, should I wait until tomorrow to do the first jab?

Don't want to make myself sick with the first go!

SharpOpalNewt · 28/02/2025 11:20

Yes Nutracheck is aces and skills. I'm going to set it up for 2lbs a week loss once I get going.

buffyangel · 28/02/2025 11:21

I did first dose last Sunday (23 Feb). So far I have experienced:
Not hungry at all - feel full even with no food, actually struggling a bit to eat daily calories
Slight headache on first day
Acid reflux
Food noise definitely quietened, even chocolate which I adore
However, I was ready to start eating properly (not for the first time 🙄) and so these 'symptoms' might have been the same even if I wasn't taking Mounjaro? I've done Weight Watchers, Slimming World, 5:2 et al and have lost some weight with them all (and put it back on over time). I am really pleased for everyone who is losing weight with this method. But I am just a generally sceptical person and wonder if the injections and the hype is partly pscychological? Doesn't really matter if it works though! Well done all you other peeps on this journey. This thread is great.

@PurpleCoo That's really interesting about keeping weekly loss down to 3lb max to reduce the risk of gallstones. My medical records have me down as experiencing an episode of cholecystitis about 8 years ago. This was diagnosed over the phone; no scans or investigations and no recurrence since so possibly not an accurate diagnosis. However, this did cause a slight issue with my MJ prescriber initially (they wanted more info before issuing a script).
I read that it's the rapid weight loss combined with a change in diet (ie less fat) that agitates stones that were actually already there but previously asymptomatic that causes the stones to suddenly be a problem. Apparently, lots of people probably have gallstones that don't cause a problem and so are never diagnosed as opposed to the MJ contributing to stones forming.
Anyway, it's made me very anxious to avoid risking a gallstone attack not just because of the pain and serious health risks but also because it would be the end of MJ for me forever and so far it's been a wonder drug in cutting down my food noise and completely eliminating any desire for alcohol.

Herefordian · 28/02/2025 11:30

3lb max per week that should say

MatriarchCaz · 28/02/2025 11:52

SW - 90.1kg
Last Weigh - 88.8kg
CW-88kg

Still on starter dose. Have had a few meals out due to birthdays etc so happy to have still lost any.

0987654321q · 28/02/2025 11:52

Couple of women I did Lighter Life with many years ago had stones for the same reason - rapid weight loss and change in diet.

SharpOpalNewt · 28/02/2025 11:55

Well done @MatriarchCaz

Mounjaroday · 27/02/2025 22:32

Just for fun, what is your weight loss equivalent to so far?

I’ve lost a Dachshund apparently. One more kilo and I’ll have lost an entire KitchenAid stand mixer 😂

7 lbs, which is approximately 55 gerbils! 🐹

JimothyHalpert · 28/02/2025 12:12

Can anyone advise me please? (Even though I know that essentially I am the only one who can make this decision!)

Last night I did my 3rd 2.5mg jab. My next pen is due to be dispatched this coming Monday.
I have had no side effects at all. Lost 7lbs (more in week 1 than week 2). I've experienced barely any food noise, and have maintained around 1200 - 1400 calories per day.

I asked the clinician on my provider's app whether I should move up to 5mg or stay on 2.5mg and his response makes me think his opinion is to stay on 2.5 but he's not outright saying it.

He said:

"Thanks for getting in touch. Please note that increasing the dose is not mandatory. If you find that there is a particular dose that you like and are losing weight on without severe side effects, then we recommend staying on this dose going forward. Increasing the dose puts you at an increased chance of experiencing common side effects such as nausea, diarrhoea or vomiting, as well as some more serious complications such as pancreatitis. Pancreatitis is characterised by symptoms of abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting. We can also review increasing the dose at a later date if you are finding that this no longer works for you down the line. Shall I set your future doses to 2.5mg for now?"

I don't know what to do...

SpiralSister · 28/02/2025 12:36

I’d absolutely stick on 2.5mg if I were you, @JimothyHalpert ! You can always go up in 4 weeks.
Everyone is so different it seems!

I’m due my final dose of my first pen on Sunday. I won’t be titting about with an extra dose, I’m going up to 5mg next. I’ve had minimal suppression really (and no side effects) and am losing about a pound a week. That’s ok, but I’d like more really - otherwise it’s a long old haul ahead 😂. I’ve said this before, but I actually lost 7lbs in a week before I started, due to the shock of the fat photos. Talk about an egg on legs!

On the positive side, I’ve lost 2 inches off my waist and am now in some (some!) of my old size 16’s!

Go us!

Mounjaroday · 28/02/2025 12:38

I agree with @SpiralSister. I moved up to 5mg on Tuesday, and now wonder if I should have stayed on 2.5mg for a bit longer.

2.5mg was brilliant for me - no side effects at all and very effective suppression. I did need to exercise a bit of willpower on days 5&6 but that was very manageable and probably a good habit to get in to anyway.

On 5mg I have absolute suppression (which I though I wanted tbh) and do feel a little queasy - even the thought of food is a bit 🤢 - and have a bit of a runny tum too.

I’ll see how I go but jury is out as to whether I stick with 5mg or go back to 2.5mg next time!

I’m going up to 5mg because I’ve experienced food noise from about 36 hours before jabbing. In other words, 2.5mg “wears off” for me.

My only side effects were coldness and a tinny taste in my mouth. Both very manageable with jumpers and chewing gum.

In your position I’d maybe stick with 2.5 for another month and see what transpires. But it may also be worth having a look at the December starters threads to see what they did and what happened.

Choux · 28/02/2025 12:45

@JimothyHalpert what's the price difference? Probably not much. I would get the 5mg and try it and, if it's not for you come back down to 2.5mg or even somewhere in between. Nothing you have said about your month on 2.5mg indicates you are likely to have side effects on 5mg and your body does tend to get used to the dose after a while so the effects become less.

Choux · 28/02/2025 12:45

I mean use the 5mg pen to count clicks and get 2.5mg if you think 5mg is too strong a dose.

Choux · 28/02/2025 12:52

@Mounjaroday the first week on 5mg can be a challenge as moving from 2.5mg to 5mg is the only time the weekly dose you take doubles. (5mg to 7.5mg is only a 50% increase in dose week on week. But your body will get used to it as you continue to take the doses from the pen.

How much have you managed to eat? If you are eating little and often - helps with queasiness - that's ok as you are only on Day 3 and the effects will wear off on days 5-7 so you can eat more so your average calorie intake is where it should be over the 7 days. It's a 7 day cycle that will likely continue now for as long as you are using Mounjaro.

Mounjaroday · 28/02/2025 12:53

Thanks @Choux that’s really helpful 🤗

Forgot to mention: I reached my first goal this morning 🎉 I am just about and only by a couple of ounces under 15 stone!

I’m telling you lovely lot as I don’t have anyone IRL to tell. Everyone knows I’m on MJ but I haven’t shared my stats with anyone - particularly my DH!

I would be celebrating if I didn’t feel so vomitous 😂

This graph shows what is in your body each day if you do 4 weeks on each dose and then move up. The first dose of 5mg is quite a big leap up.

Does anyone else have weird weights they are looking to achieve.
In December I was 13st 6lb for my sons wedding and tick, I got that this morning.
My next is 12st 8lb as I got that 2 years ago with a calorie deficit, steps, exercise and protein plan and maintained it for a full week 🤣🤣

After this, I'm really struggling to visualise anything lower 🤦‍♀️

Lol yes i do too!
14.10 gets me to where i was at lowest last year( according to myfitness pal). I think it was after id read ultra processed people and cleaned up my diet.
13.7 is the lowest I was about 10 years ago, and thats a very comfortable size 16.
After that i also cant picture cos its been so long!

Don't want to make myself sick with the first go!

I would just do it to be honest, I waited a week with nerves before doing my first injection, and when I did realised it wasn't a big a deal as I was worried.

Good luck 🌺
