November ‘24 Starters Thread 7 - The one where we might need smaller smalls 😉

1000 replies

Mounjaropen · 06/02/2025 08:15

Welcome to thread 7 to MN weight loss friends old and new!

Feel free to lurk or post, absolutely no judgement here, just support and encouragement as we move beyond the looooongest month and into February. Love is in the air for our new smaller selves and discovering clothes we use to wear ❤️

I’m on W14 D4 and on my third 5mg pen
F in my early 50’s
H 5’ 5.5”
SW 13st 11lb
CW 11st 9.2lb
GW 10st (maybe 9st 7lb if I don’t look like a melted candle)
Total loss so far 29.2lbs

Recommend the Shotsy app to monitor MJ in the system and pleasing graphs to look at…plus the MeThreeSixty body scan app to monitor inch loss for the weeks where weight loss is slow but you might have lost body fat etc. Both are free.

Feel free to swap recipes that might inspire anyone in a food rut, tips for side effects, exercise tips, tips for titrating up or down and we love a beauty/ style chat too 🥰

Same here. Whenever DH is away I sleep like a baby, no aches from him rolling into and out of bed or pulling the duvet. I don’t want him to retire for a few years yet

“Retire him yet” 😂 Just snorted out loud imagining a stable full of 50+ year old males in a sanctuary blighted by their inability to have bladder control for 8 hours or to be able to share a duvet. 😆

I firmly believe taking the jabs isn't cheating, it's correcting the problem.
I'm not saying it's not my fault I got fat. But I now believe I was strongly helped by fucked up hormones. And it wasn't due to some deep seated trauma I haven't managed to work through.

Tbf, I could probably lie most of the blame for my issues at the door of my Mother including this one. I’m only sorry she isn’t around to see how thin I am right now 😂

I have a DH who likes to snore like a train and fart all night - always sleep much better in bed on my own😂

Well done on giving up the booze. It’s hard with kids isn’t it? It absolutely is my nemesis and if last weekend was anything to go by, I still need to reassess my relationship with it 😩

well done on the movement! I’m focussing on my protein intake this week. Yesterday I had 2 fresh tuna steaks totally weight 240g with rocket salad and fresh tomatoes ( I love it when there is tuna in the yellow sticker section, was 50% off and I was only feeding myself yesterday) but even eating both steaks (griddled with olive oil and sea salt) gave me only 59g of protein vs a daily recommended amount of 73-146g based on my weight. I’m on one meal a day at the moment which suits me but I need to focus on getting enough protein to compensate for my exercise/MJ. Today I’m doing a roasted whole chicken with Nduja butter with roasted mix vegetables in the resultant butter (mix of red pepper/courgette/sweet potato) and I’ll have one chicken breast off that then give the legs to DH. I’ll have the other chicken breast as a salad tomorrow with a spicy dressing and roasted butternut squash with pine nuts and I’ll make DH either a red Thai curry with the leftover chicken with plenty of veg. I’m having tropical fruit salad as dessert this week. I don’t want to go down the protein supplement route as I don’t want to artificially take something I should be able to crest from my diet naturally. I’m also aware that too much protein can have an adverse effect on my body and I don’t want to upset the balance whilst on MJ.

I’ve always loved a drink, am very social so giving up the booze was a big deal. But it was surprisingly easy. A friend of mine on the jabs said she’s really sick when drinking on it, that was enough to convince me. I’ve always suffered the worlds worse hangovers, throwing up, useless the next day etc so now I feel like I’ve taken back control. Still go out just as much, am pretty chatty anyway, really love the 0% beers and Whitely Neill 0% rhubarb & ginger ‘Gin’ is lush. It’s not permanent, might reintroduce it in moderation in the spring/summer…..

Your meals sound amazing, think I need to up my protein and eat less carbs….😍

Ooh didn’t realise that WN did a 0% range! Love them. I’d recommend the tanqueray 00 range particularly the Seville one - you can hardly tell the difference except you don’t get squiffy.

Low carbing definitely regulates my cravings and is the most effective method of me losing (and keeping ) weight off.

Can I also reserve a permanent space in the stable for my 50+ DH please 🙋

Waving hello here, I have been lurking and on Mounjaro since 22nd November, I'm 28.75 lbs down as of last Friday (jab day).

I'm currently on 5mg but took the extra dose on Friday via syringe but not sure I measured correctly (so took more than 5mg as I have had mega sulphur burps and awful diarrhoea since (now abating). I was considering going up to 7.5mg but I have a 5mg pen in the fridge and think I will do the 5mg dose on Friday and see how I am. Prior to the golden dose, my food noise was creeping back so thought I was ready to go up.

When I started 5mg I had similar spectacular side effects at first so I am wary of shifting doses too soon. Any advice?

I haven't deliberately given up the booze but I've realised I haven't had a drink since just after Christmas, purely through lack of interest in it. I'm going out on Saturday for the first time in ages and have no idea what I'll be able to drink. I wonder if bars have 0% spirits?? I've only ever seen them in the supermarket.

I'm still on 5mg, can't remember how many weeks it is now (since November anyway) but I'm starting to get a little bit worried that my lack of food noise and reduced appetite is progressing to full on food aversion. I'm getting over a bout of covid so it could be related but I'm really struggling to eat at all. I'm forcing down tiny portions of whatever is for dinner, and making myself eat an apple or banana here and there to get some sort of nutrition into me, but this really can't be sustainable long term. I'm hoping it passes.

Done. Do you want standard or luxe accommodation? Any interest in our tailor-made rehabilitation programme? 😂

You poor thing! Certainly the bars where I live serve 0%. On that amount of food it’s probably sensible not to drink on the basis that you’ll be sloshed after one! Hope you feel better soon.

congratulations on your loss that is fabulous! I think if I were you I would stick with 5 mg for this week and maybe make it up to 6.25 the following week by counting the clicks to make up to that dose from a 5 mg pen?

Great, thank you, that sounds very sensible, I'll do that.

Today is the 25th of the month and I have lost 25lbs! Admittedly that’s after yesterday’s spectacularly unhappy digestive tract so I might fluctuate back up by tomorrow, but I will take it. I am also now exactly one stone away from a BMI of 24.9. Plus my two stone marker suddenly seems tantalising close. The next 7 lbs are filled with markers (the weight I was at my sister’s wedding in 2017, the weight I was when I turned 30 in 2013, etc etc) but I don’t think I’ve been a healthy weight since 2007, so the second 7lbs will feel very different.

Get two duvets. Best thing ever. We have two king size duvets and I can roll myself up in mine, it’s bliss! DH makes the bed and puts them one on top of the other and then tries to get under both, and I come in and make him surrender mine. If he could stop pulling the covers off me in the middle of the night I wouldn’t have to resort to this.

I did this! It's a game changer, I roll myself up in my king size duvet like a burrito and leave my DH to his crazy night-time shenanigans. Highly recommend.

Anyone suddenly developed nausea after coping fine on the same dose for a few months? Just wondering if it’s a blip and will pass. I’m 15 weeks in, only went up a dose after the first month and now feel generally bleurgh. Weight loss has slowed but reluctant to go up feeling like this.

itsnotagameshow · 25/02/2025 16:49

Sorry another question! I have been relying on things like protein shakes to make up enough protein for the day, but recently I have wanted to eat more cleanly. I'm reading through older posts on this thread and getting some good ideas about meal planning so thank you.

I am also a bit fed up of logging everything in My Fitness Pal as I was concerned it was not contributing to me eating more intuitively (thinking ahead for when I am at goal and off Mounjaro) - sometimes it has been a bit of an obsession and I don't want that to grow. At the moment my suppression is pretty good and I have a rough idea of calories in things I eat but I obviously don't want to veer off track.

So I was just interested to hear from people who aren't tracking intake particularly and how it's going for them?

Yes me! See my first post earlier today….although did go up a dose.
feeling a bit better this afternoon after gallons of water drunk today and very light eating. I can cope with nausea, but not the galloping trots 💩 🏃🏼‍♀️ 🩲 🚽

I'm feeling a bit low today... it's jab day so I'm hungrier and my tummy feels bloated and uncomfortable, but I also had a disappointment relating to a potential new job. I've found myself binging on crisps and bread for the first time since I started mj and fantasising about all sorts of treats I want to eat now that I've fallen off the diet wagon. I'm now hiding upstairs so I can't go rummaging through the kitchen looking for more snacks! Its made me feel so annoyed at myself for slipping back into old habits. I know it's only one day but I feel so disgusted that at the first bump in the road I start gorging on food again 😞.

DarkForces · 25/02/2025 17:29

@itsnotagameshow after tracking religiously in the past I have a decent idea of how much I need to eat (or rather not eat) to lose weight. I weigh once a week to make sure I'm losing but apart from that it's self discipline and Mounjaro. I definitely think it was worth tracking as I was underestimating the impact of snacks and booze but I focus more on getting 3 small healthy meals in me these days as like you I got bored tracking calories. Gone from a size 18 to a 12-14 since early November using this method

We also have two duvets 😁 DH is a fidget and I am a ridiculously light sleeper. Two duvets is wonderful. Mine is a single, his is the super king size. Works perfectly! His snoring got so bad I had to move next door, but his weight loss on MJ has permitted me back into our room 😊

KeepCalmandGiveItaGo · 25/02/2025 18:02

Hey itsnotagameshow I have good intentions but am pretty consistently derailed by a chaotic family life and hopelessly disorganised! At the start of this I planned to track, but nope! I aimed to focus on protein and all the macros (in the main anyway) again nope 🙈 I planned to be better at planning, but nope 🫣 I aimed to start a regular exercise routine too and I think you’ll guess the answer! 😂 I have no idea which week I’m on, or how much I lost week on week, after about week 4. Have fallen, pretty much by accident, into the eating when I’m hungry (which is generally less than before) and not when I don’t. Trying to drink more and probably failing to drink enough most days.

Overall it must involve a cal deficit to have lost anything and I think ah well, just keep going and as long as the DC aren’t in hospital (we’ve had a rough year) it’ll be ok and just take each day as it own :)

I had good losses at the start but has been quite haphazard since, like the rest of this gorgeous but utterly insane family I find myself in the midst of.

I find jab day and the day before a challenge because I am much more hungry and sometimes snack. But I do have to remind myself that even with that, I am still eating SO much less than I was (and better). It sounds like you have had a shit day, but in the journey you have been on, and the continued journey ahead, not only is a shit day or two to be expected, it is also okay. So don’t beat yourself up, just park today, remember all you have achieved and move on to tomorrow 💪

phyllidafosset · 25/02/2025 18:11

I was away this weekend and ate out and more than I have been. I jumped on the scales yesterday and was 1lb up, which depressed me because although I was eating more I did eat a lot less than I would normally have done (and I do have the extra salt thing in my head too). BUT I have added in an extra gym day, and I think my very late period my be starting tomorrow, and I jabbed yesterday, so I’m going to resist hopping on the scales until Thursday (post gym day tomorrow) and see where I am at then 😁💪🤞🤞🤞🤞
