November ‘24 Starters Thread 7 - The one where we might need smaller smalls 😉

1000 replies

Mounjaropen · 06/02/2025 08:15

Welcome to thread 7 to MN weight loss friends old and new!

Feel free to lurk or post, absolutely no judgement here, just support and encouragement as we move beyond the looooongest month and into February. Love is in the air for our new smaller selves and discovering clothes we use to wear ❤️

I’m on W14 D4 and on my third 5mg pen
F in my early 50’s
H 5’ 5.5”
SW 13st 11lb
CW 11st 9.2lb
GW 10st (maybe 9st 7lb if I don’t look like a melted candle)
Total loss so far 29.2lbs

Recommend the Shotsy app to monitor MJ in the system and pleasing graphs to look at…plus the MeThreeSixty body scan app to monitor inch loss for the weeks where weight loss is slow but you might have lost body fat etc. Both are free.

Feel free to swap recipes that might inspire anyone in a food rut, tips for side effects, exercise tips, tips for titrating up or down and we love a beauty/ style chat too 🥰

well Voy cocked up and sent me 5mg when i should have moved to 7.5mg. i'm still stagnated at 75 ish kg. tantalisingly close to a healthy BMI.
think i'm going to move providers - anyone recommend a good comparison page? not just for first prescription but the ongoing pricing structure?
on a positive note, i'm starting the gym next week with my son. so i've no excuse not to go as he is super keen but needs me to take him and stay there as he's under 16.

That sounds like a lovely shared activity you’re going to have with DS. It’s miles better in terms of consistency to have a training partner that you don’t want to let down by sacking off an intended visits. Plus, Teenage boys love to chat all things protein shake/rep sets IME so brace yourself 😂

It’s sad isn’t it how judgemental some people are. I saw a friend who I’d not seen in a few months and she commented on my weight loss, she and I have both struggled with weight over the years so I told her about Mounjaro, she was really positive and interested in trying it. She then said in her next breath not to tell a mutual acquaintance who had told her WLI are awful and cheating and likely to kill everyone who takes them!
I’m half tempted to tell the judgy woman just to shut her up 😤

I told my friends and promptly earned £40 x 2 as they both wanted a referral code 😆 I think once someone knows someone who is taking it, it feels less scary/out of reach. Personally, I couldn’t give a shiny shit about the judgy twats/anyone who thinks it is ‘cheating’ - they’re normally the ones either miserable from a lifetime of disordered eating or somehow worried that they’ll be no fatties left to stand next to in photos.. so yeah, I’d be telling the judgy one too 😂

Back to work today after half term and 4 people asked about my weight loss. As I’m a chronic over sharer and can’t lie I’m no longer a secret jabber.

It was a really positive reaction from those I told.

13 years from first date with DP is coming up on Saturday. This is my lowest weight since we met. I remember putting 9 stone 12 on match because it looked better than 10 stone!

Absolutely fantastic losses this week guys. The updates are flipping amazing !

Well on the upside, your WL obviously shows so well done ! Congrats on your upcoming first date anniversary! I’d love to be able to write 9st 12 at some point. 9’s is the ultimate goal for me.

Thank you and Mounjaropen too for your lunchbox ideas! 👍 I’m trying hard to get DD to branch out but is hard going. 3 yr old is also entering a new phase of rejecting foods she was perfectly happy with before. Fun times! 🙃 they both love pancakes, is it weird to give pancakes for lunch?! I do mix banana/ avo in..

For some reason daring to try a wrap last term ended in tears, I don’t get it!

Kids often don’t like change - it’s why they watch the same film over and over as the security of knowing what happens is a comfort blanket. If school is overwhelming, opening a lunchbox to find something they like/know is a big hug for them. My DD accepted wraps because we ate fajitas each week on fajita Friday - could you try that trick?. I used to get DD involved in lunchbox making the night before so we’d cut up the fruit together, choose a snack etc. could you try that? That way, there are no surprises for them. I used to spice it up by leaving notes in the lunchbox with jokes on them or writing a message on a banana (my banana art got quite good tbf 😆) any sandwich filling I thought DD would not want to try, I’d cut into a shape using a cookie cutter - who doesn’t want heart shaped sandwiches? 😉

Welcome! We probably can’t help with Wegovy /semiglutide specifics - we’re all on Mounjaro (Tirzepatide) but we do love a weight loss/beauty/diet/accountability chat so absolutely join in. 1.5 stones loss is great! You must feel miles better? Sorry to hear about your D&V - don’t panic, is it possible you’ve picked up a bug and it’s a coincidence? A lot of us suffered side effects after moving up doses but it tended to be a one time thing and then our bodies settled down so you might find that?

In terms of diet, how is your protein and water intake? Are you monitoring your macros?

Going to the gym is a positive step, but all movement is good, so try and do something each day - a walk, 20mins of joe wicks/yoga etc - Wegovy is like MJ in that your body will want to use up the muscle rather than the fat so you need to keep your muscle building exercise up whilst on it.

Let us know if you need any help. Sounds like today you need to drink plenty of water, take an electrolyte replacement and eat plain food to settle your system. 💐

Thanks so much for the warm welcome🥰

I do drink loads of water, fruit teas etc and gave up alcohol too since October and feel so much better for it. My skin is amazing now and my cholesterol has dropped to the lowest ever. I don’t monitor macros at all 🙈 but do eat lots of protein, fruit, veg, nuts, oats, etc but I am still having some sweet treats/choc which I should probably stop.
thankfully my obsession with food/when will I next eat/what will eat/feeling hungry all the time has quietened down which is a revelation for me 🎉

Im always on the move, walking, yoga, swimming, gym, running around at work, after kids etc - no concerns about that. I’ve always just had an annoyingly slow metabolism and put too much food in my mouth🤐🤷🏼‍♀️

resting today and loads more fluids

Welcome @Mylittlepea.

StarShapedWindow · 25/02/2025 08:05

Hi @Mylittlepea hope you start to feel much better today, lots of us have had dodgy stomachs after going up a dose, hopefully it’ll calm down today.

Well done on giving up the booze. It’s hard with kids isn’t it? It absolutely is my nemesis and if last weekend was anything to go by, I still need to reassess my relationship with it 😩

well done on the movement! I’m focussing on my protein intake this week. Yesterday I had 2 fresh tuna steaks totally weight 240g with rocket salad and fresh tomatoes ( I love it when there is tuna in the yellow sticker section, was 50% off and I was only feeding myself yesterday) but even eating both steaks (griddled with olive oil and sea salt) gave me only 59g of protein vs a daily recommended amount of 73-146g based on my weight. I’m on one meal a day at the moment which suits me but I need to focus on getting enough protein to compensate for my exercise/MJ. Today I’m doing a roasted whole chicken with Nduja butter with roasted mix vegetables in the resultant butter (mix of red pepper/courgette/sweet potato) and I’ll have one chicken breast off that then give the legs to DH. I’ll have the other chicken breast as a salad tomorrow with a spicy dressing and roasted butternut squash with pine nuts and I’ll make DH either a red Thai curry with the leftover chicken with plenty of veg. I’m having tropical fruit salad as dessert this week. I don’t want to go down the protein supplement route as I don’t want to artificially take something I should be able to crest from my diet naturally. I’m also aware that too much protein can have an adverse effect on my body and I don’t want to upset the balance whilst on MJ.

Wasn't feeling great last night 🤮 so up early and going to the cinema a wee few days away from Drama really helps

Della82 · 25/02/2025 09:19

@Mounjaropen sounds delicious! I’m going to have to try Nduja roasted chicken.

I’m meeting a friend tonight who is on a budget so we are going to Nando’s which is great as I will have butterfly chicken with broccoli it’s low in calories and carbs and I won’t feel bad about eating half a plate 😂

I think @Mounjaropen‘s dinner wins though 😁

Great to get tuna on offer. Live the stuff.
One meal a day will make protein tough to get. I struggle with multiple meals. Best of luck.

I'm less bloated today but the gain is still on the scales, I did eat out last night and I've no idea what calories I had. Though we did shared starters which made it easier to cover eating less.

So far I'm not having my day two trapped wind, sulphur burps which is great. I think eating more on jab day was good for side effects.

That’s interesting about eating more and having less trapped wind on day two. I normally suffer from insomnia the night of my jabbing, but without DH at home last night I had a night of unbroken sleep as no one woke me up during the night…et voila! no insomnia. Apparently it isn’t the jab it’s just sharing a bed with a 50 something year-old man with a 50 something year-old male bladder 🤣

My sleep on jab day is disrupted, I take an antihistamine to try and make me drowsy which also helps combat the itchiness I get!

Anyone else had the misfortune of listening to some journalist called Kate Mulvey on Woman’s Hour just now? WTF? A woman who has had Botox herself judging other women for having Botox and apparently Ozempic is cheating. That whole lazy tone of journalism really boils my piss no one on this thread is taking MJ and then stuffing their face with fish and chips and a full fat Coke, it’s supporting an entire lifestyle change. And apparently according to this woman we cannot classify ourselves as feminists if we succumb to Botox or injectables and take Ozempic. On the upside, my annoyance has upped the pace at which the dog is being walked 😡

What feminist wants to exclude other women on the basis of taking medication to improve their health and hopefully avoid obesity related disease? Not one I have any space in my head for. What an idiot

Is this the same knacker that was doing the rounds last week? The 29 year old?

Disappointed in WH for entertaining this misogynistic take on Feminism.

jay55 · 25/02/2025 11:38

I firmly believe taking the jabs isn't cheating, it's correcting the problem.
I'm not saying it's not my fault I got fat. But I now believe I was strongly helped by fucked up hormones. And it wasn't due to some deep seated trauma I haven't managed to work through.

No this is a 63 year old woman who seems to contradict herself at every point. A sort of Katie Hopkins lite if you will. Jog on love, no one cares.

And yes, shame on WH.
