Where are all the Wegovy folks?

It seems to be very Mounjuro heavy on this board?

Would love to hear from those on Wegovy. How have you found it? How much have you lost?

I'm starting on Monday (getting my first month's supply Monday afternoon!)

Mounjaro is proven slightly more effective than wegovy for weight loss, and I think quite a few people have moved from wegovy to mounjaro (me included) - is there a reason you chose wegovy?

SilenceInside · 01/02/2025 13:54

There's a January starters thread here:

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weight-loss-injections/5249548-wegovy-january-starters-thread?utm_campaign=thread&utm_medium=share

Numbers of people on Wegovy are fewer than on Mounjaro, hence the disparity in the number of threads.

There isn't any real reason, it was a bit cheaper from Superdrug (and I know someone who has successfully lost 3st on it!!)

Maybe I'll see how I get on for the first month and then move?

Oh no don't do that. You've committed to wegovy, you need to give it at least 3 months to get to a therapeutic dose before making any decision. Otherwise you'd literally just be wasting a month and the money spent.

Crunchymum · 01/02/2025 16:20

Good to know.

I'll just view it as "at least I'm doing something" and see where I am by my birthday in June.

It's a shame there aren't many Wegovy users though as I have a few questions 😅

OP posts:
pinkdelight · 01/02/2025 16:20

I switched from Wegovy to Mountjaro as I'd read it was more effective and also found it had fewer side effects - doesn't make me feel nauseous like the other did. That'll be different for everyone though so try what you've got and see how you go.

Crunchymum · 01/02/2025 16:25

My real life sample is very small but I know two people currently using weightloss injections. One who has been very successful on Wegovy (lost 3st and very few side effects) and the other who lost a fair bit on Mounjaro but had a lot of nausea and did a lot stop / starting due to how sick it made them feel. They've just stopped taking Mounjarao completely. I'm related to them both so that tipped me to Wegovy.

Glorybox2025 · 01/02/2025 16:50

I took Wegovy for 6 months. Didn't lose a huge amount and I got constipation but no other side effects. Been on Mounjaro for 6 months and lost about 3 times more than I did on Wegovy but the side effects for around 6 weeks between 5mg and 7.5mg were not nice.

Lighterlilly · 01/02/2025 18:14

Mounjaro is the newer drug and more effective so most folks chose that, as normally they are paying for it, hence why more threads on it on here. If you’re spending uou go for the most effective.

There are lots of wegovy folks though, don’t worry. Just ask any questions, but I’m sure your relative can give you reliable advice too if they’ve lost 3 stone on it.

as for being sick, it could have been other way round, thays just luck of the draw.

good luck

CagneyNYPD1 · 01/02/2025 18:53

I'm a Wegovy person! Just coming up to 5 months and nearly 2 stone lost. Down from 14st12 to 13st.

I'm on Wegovy rather than MJ as I have had thyroid surgery in the past and Boots wouldn't prescribe MJ. Other pharmacies would but I prefer to err on the side of caution as there is much more data available for Wegovy.

My experience so far has been pretty steady all round. A bit of nausea the day after I inject and a bit of constipation. But peppermint tea and daily psyllium husks tablets sort that.

My weight loss has been slow and steady - that suits me fine. It can be a bit frustrating at times when so many people seem to lose so quickly on MJ.

I do get quite tired at times. But I am in my 50s and in peri so who knows if it is just the Wegovy or a combination.

Don't for get to take photos of you now. From lots of angles. I take photos on the last day of each month. Wearing exactly the same clothes in the same place. Just today I was comparing yesterday's to the first lot of photos and there is a clear difference all over, including my face and neck. But especially my middle. Thank goodness.

Good luck @Crunchymum

Crunchymum · 01/02/2025 19:05

Thank you for the reply @CagneyNYPD1

I think slow and steady is the way forward as I'm mid 40's and I don't want any major / sudden weightloss. I know significant weightloss can be quite aging. I was looking for a 3st loss in 2025 (lb a week) the "old fashioned way" although obviously I'd like it to be faster with medication. We'll see.

I have an autoimmune arthritis and so does my relative who takes Wegovy. Another reason I went for that (I keep kicking myself for picking it but there was several reasons I did so I need to own it!!)

I was injecting weekly for my arthritis for many years and the medication gave me horrible nausea so I'm pretty hardy when it comes to that but I'll keep an eye on constipation etc. I'm also pretty exhausted all the time anyway being so fat and unfit and probably in peri myself.

Did you notice a massive decrease in your appetite? Was it immediate? I'm just skeptical it will cure my ferocious appetite.

The photos are a good shout. I'll take some tomorrow!

I wish I’d tried Wegovy before Monjaro in my opinion. Honestly it mucked my periods up cos it counteracted with other meds and where I’m off it I’ve just had my biggest loss of 3lb and in my other wild opinion the actual pen for Mounjaro is cheap. I learnt something the other day when someone posted about these pens being manufactured in different countries.

Did you see the Panorama programme mid-January the three people for Wegovy on that show all had results.

My crème-de-la creme was Saxenda. (biggest lost had)

Good luck for your journey.

I’ve just signed up to Wegovy and am currently waiting for them to approve/complete my order, so I’ll be following this thread with interest!

fatandtrying · 01/02/2025 20:56

I'm on wevogy, will take my 4th jab Monday and I'm already 2lbs off losing a stone! I was always a fast loser on diets until I hit the dreaded 40s! this is changing my life

Looks like we're following a similar time frame. I was just approved earlier today and collect after 3pm on Monday.

Now this is what I'm talking about.

This is good to hear.

How is your appetite? Any side effects?

no side effects at all! I've been hungry today but first time since I had my first jab although period is due Monday! I've just snacked on fruit and healthy things today, before today could barely finish a bowl of soup! jabs same day as periods due so hopefully will go back to suppression!

FedUpandEatingChocolate · 01/02/2025 21:30

I've just started on wegovy tonight!

I chose it over mounjaro as I don't have lots of weight to lose (my BMI is 30), I've put weight on over the last 5 years and I don't want to lose it too quickly.

If I plateau before I get to a healthy BMI I'll switch.

Doggymummar · 01/02/2025 21:33

I was on Wegovy for a year. The tablet form, Rybelsus. I was terribly ill vomited everyday for months, horrible so I had a break and moved to MJ. I've had no side effects really. Hope you feel great on it.

CagneyNYPD1 · 01/02/2025 21:46

@Crunchymum Wegovy has done a fab job on my appetite. Suppression started kicking in after the first few days. I do find that the suppression wears off a bit towards the end of the week but not too bad.

The big thing I noticed was that by then end of the 1st week, my chocolate cravings disappeared. If I fancy something sweet, I'm happy to have a banana.

Even during the Christmas period, I just didn't fancy over indulging. A client gave me a box of chocs which lasted well over a week. Unheard of for me - would have been snaffled in one evening before.

sneakssneakssneaks · 02/02/2025 00:45

i was literally thinking the exact phrase in your thread title then a split second later saw your thread 😂

After umming and ahhing for at least a year I finally made an appt today for a couple of weeks time to see about wegovy and then all day I’ve been seeing tiktoks about how MJ is better! Thing is I’m not in the UK and am v limited on how I can get weight loss injections and I trust the place that supplies wegovy more than I trust the place that supplies MJ. But I guess if I don’t get on with it, the option to switch is there.

I’ll be happy if it works tho and slow and steady suits me, I’m coming up to 40 and the extra weight in my face keeps me looking quite young so I’m very wary of looking haggard. I’d rather still have some weight on me than go really slim.

Wegovy2025 · 02/02/2025 06:59

I applied for Wegovy last night, waiting for approval so glad I’ve found this thread. I also know a few people who have had amazing successes on Wegovy. It’s also had more research, more people have used it (more is known about its safety and side effects), and it’s cheaper!

Good luck starting tomorrow, let us know how it goes!

Crunchymum · 02/02/2025 08:37

Sorry to hear Wegovy in tablet form didn't work for you @Doggymummar is there a reason you didn't go for injections? Sorry you were poorly for so long!!

@CagneyNYPD1 thanks for sharing. I'm just so skeptical that anything can work in curbing my sweet tooth and overall appetite. I just want / need that initial suppression as I'm plagued by such a ferocious sugar addiction. I managed to go 3 months sugar free (lost a stone) but I've now undone all that hard work over Christmas and couldn't get back to it. Which is the story of my "dieting" life. Make a little progress and then feck it all up.

@sneakssneakssneaks I hope you manage to get your approval and you can join the "party". Fingers crossed you can get the medication you want.

@Wegovy2025 I will indeed update the thread. And there are a few of on a similar pathway and just starting.

How much are people wanting to lose? I am aiming for 3st but really as I'm so short it needs to be 4st. I'm currently a size 18/20 and would love to be a 12.

I'd like to get down to 70kg which is almost a 30kg loss. I appreciate that's quite a lot for wegovy, but I'm hopeful that I'll get there as that was my pre-peri-menopause weight!

Are there limits with the amount you can lose on Wegovy then?

I get that it's slower but didn't realise it was limited?

I'd be looking to lose slightly less than 30kg myself.
