Where are all the Wegovy folks?

It seems to be very Mounjuro heavy on this board?

Would love to hear from those on Wegovy. How have you found it? How much have you lost?

I'm starting on Monday (getting my first month's supply Monday afternoon!)

Are there limits with the amount you can lose on Wegovy then?

I get that it's slower but didn't realise it was limited?

I'd be looking to lose slightly less than 30kg myself.

Edited

No, there is no limits, no drug does the work for you, you need to eat in calorie deficit, as long as you keep doing this, you will lose weight, simply as you slim down that cal deficit gets lower.

i think a lot of people got confused in the lose up to x percent of body weight, that doesn’t mean you simply stop losing if in a cal deficit.

however wegovy is only licensed for two years, so this imposes a limit. Where as mounjaro can be taken for life, and why so many folks on this will stay on with a maintenance dose to ensure they maintain.

CurlsLDN · 02/02/2025 11:08

Hi I’m on wegovy! 12 jabs in, have gone from 18stone to 16st 6lb.

I chose wegovy because I’m on the contraceptive pill, mounjaro can stop it from working whereas wegovy doesn’t interfere with it.

im losing slow and steady, averaging a lb a week. I didn’t notice much appetite suppression for the first 6-8 weeks - which is normal and fine as you need to increase dose gradually to get to a working dose, but it was hard not to think ‘it’s not working’ when loads of people online are saying they can’t eat a thing and are losing loads! Mind you that sounds unhealthy and dangerous so I wouldn’t want that anyway.

I’ve been on 1mg for the past 4 weeks and have found it tough, appetite suppression is high and I’ve been very nauseous. I’ve opted to stay on 1mg for the next 4 weeks rather than increase dose and see how it goes.

must admit I’m feeling a bit fed up at this point, I’m pleased with the weight lost but the nausea this past month hasn’t been fun. I lost a lot of weight at a similar rate a few years back with weight loss shakes which was a hell of a lot cheaper with less side effects, so I’m going to see how I go over the next 4 weeks and then decide whether to continue or to try shakes again instead.

Thank you for your post @CurlsLDN and congratulations on your weightloss.

I suppose it does feel "slow" but slow and steady wins the race?

I was losing a lb a week doing things the conventional way (calorie counting) but my problem is I am never able to sustain it. So I do a few months, lose a little and then go back to old habits.

I'm hoping Wegovy can just turn the noise off for a bit. Although I will be disappointed if there is no noticeable difference in my appetite.

How are the doses calculated? I'm doing it all online (via Superdrug) so I am curious as to how I'll find my working dose?

There's a Wegovy January starters thread on this board. Have you seen that?

It has definitely turned off the noise for me! I don’t feel hungry at all so it’s easy to stick to the calorie deficit.

I may be wrong but I read that with both mounjaro and wegovy the lower doses are to get your body used to it slowly, and then there is a dose that is considered clinically effective - that’s what I meant by ‘working dose’. It should start taking effect right from the first dose but it’s not at that clinical level until a few months in.

Polypoj · 02/02/2025 15:15

I was on Wegovy for one month. I changed to Mounjara as I read that with Mounjara there is the possibility of taking a maintenance dose (which I might need). This is not the case with Wegovy as far as I understand it. Mounjara is also meant to be more effective. My weight loss on both has been slow, average is UNDER 1lb per week. But with my various issues e.g. thyroid, disability, low activity levels, and age I’m 60+ I’m not entirely surprised at this; my need for calories is pretty low

Crunchymum · 02/02/2025 16:25

Thank you for your post @Polypoj

I'm interested about maintenance dose. I admit this is one area my research has been very lax in. As it feels so far away.

I wonder if I ever get to this point I could move to Mounjaro?

Polypoj · 02/02/2025 17:11

I think it would be a good idea to ask your prescriber, and maybe a few other prescribers, since I’m sure they will have come across this situation.

My prescriber made me start again at 2.5 Mounjara, so overall this delayed me getting up to 5 mg till the third month, instead of the second month. However, I was not in any particular hurry and just starting out. However, your prescriber might be happy to just swap you over to Mounjara at higher dose e.g. 5 mg, 10 mg, or wherever you are at. Might be a good idea to ask now?

Moirarosesgarden · 02/02/2025 17:44

I’ve lost 4 stone on Wegovy in 13 months. I can’t remember mounjaro being an option when I started. It has been absolutely life changing for me. Minimal side effects, and just made sticking to a lower calorie diet almost easy!

I am going to swap to mounjaro soon however as Wegovy is only licensed for two years I believe, whereas mounjaro apparently has no limit. It is also cheaper from what I can see. I’ve had four pharmacies confirm i can swap to mounjaro, even though bmi is now 27.

thornbury · 02/02/2025 18:00

I'm on Wegovy, had my 3rd dose this weekend. I've lost 6lbs in my first two weeks and the only side effect is burping and sometimes a mild queasiness that isn't bad enough to be called nausea. The appetite suppression was noticeable the very next day and my sweet tooth has almost disappeared. I'll be happy with 1-2lbs a week. I decided not to try Mounjaro as it's twice the price where I live.

Crunchymum · 02/02/2025 18:11

Thank you @Polypoj this is good to know. I think I'm just going to see how things are after my first month on Wegovy. I'll know more from that point. I'm not good with dealing in the "unknown" in case anyone can't tell 😊

@Moirarosesgarden congratulations on a such a huge loss. You must look and feel like a different person. Are you wanting to lose more? Or moving to Mounjaro for maintenance?

@thornbury another positive post which is making me feel confident in my choice here. If I can kick the sugar addiction, I may have a fighting chance to one day not need medication for my weight (my issue is with sugar. When it's not in my diet I am good at eating well but I have never been able to fully kick the damn sugar!!). Well done on your loss so far too. Long may it continue for you.

I've lost nearly 2 stone on Wegovy, another couple to go. Started end of October. I've remained at 1mg due to cost and currently it's fine, still much reduced appetite. I'm using it alongside fasting (between 7pm and midday) and I'm losing weight steadily. I was put off Mounjaro slightly by how fast my friend had lost weight on it, her skin was literally hanging off!

Polypoj · 02/02/2025 19:06

@NoKnickerElastic But your friend must have been on too high a dose of her appetite suppression was that extreme. For many people it is a race - even a competition - to get as thin as possible in as short amount of time, regardless of whether they are on Wegovy or Mounjara. And regardless of the impact such a speedy loss has on their appearance or their health.

I do understand the impatience - don’t we all <sigh> - but it seems crazy to me to pursue it to that extent.

I remember reading an article in a daily mail by Nadine Doris and she was saying HOW sick and nauseous she was on whatever injection drug she was taking; I am pretty sure if she had gone more slowly she wouldn’t have suffered such powerful side-effects.

But that’s not the drug, that’s how your friend behaved on it.

Glorybox2025 · 02/02/2025 19:21

I'm not sure it's correct that Wegovy can only be prescribed for 2 years, it's worth looking into that. Also bear in mind you may not be able to swap from wegovy to Mounjaro for maintenance as you presumably won't be at a weight that meets the prescribing guidelines for Mounjaro at that point.

Wegovy2025 · 02/02/2025 19:27

It’s great using all these success stories. I can’t wait to be rid of the constant food noise. It’s quite debilitating at times and I’m so envious of people who naturally don’t have this.

I’m going through an online pharmacy because it’s so much cheaper (for exactly the same product), but they rejected my picture. I think because I was wearing a non tight fitting jumper (although it wasn’t exactly baggy). Just uploaded another one, fingers crossed this one’s accepted. I’m dying to start now!

NoKnickerElastic · 02/02/2025 19:38

@lighterlilly yes you're probably right although I hadn't really considered that. It seemed she didn't have any appetite at all which I thought naively that was how it worked given how quickly people seem to lose on Mounjaro

Most folks lose about 2 lbs a week, loads of threads on here, yes some lose faster, some slower, but what you describe is not the drug.

PrimalLass · 02/02/2025 19:46

I've found Mounjaro and WG to be the same, if that helps. I changed to MJ after a break of a few months just for a change.

PrimalLass · 02/02/2025 19:49

Did you notice a massive decrease in your appetite? Was it immediate?

I'm lucky that I've had no side effects with either really - just a reduced interest in food. I still enjoy it when I eat it, but can skip meals and not notice.

PrimalLass · 02/02/2025 19:51

in my other wild opinion the actual pen for Mounjaro is cheap

The WG pen is much better. I hate the MJ one.

Agree. The Wegovy pen was smoother and easier to jab. The Mounjaro pen is stiffer and requires both hands, which I think causes irritation at the injection site.

Crunchymum · 03/02/2025 12:28

First jab done!! Will update with any news.

Will weigh in next Monday and see where I'm at.

Just taken first jag here too..2pm today as soon as postman delivered it.

Starting weight 12st 12 and aiming for 10 st

Crunchymum · 03/02/2025 18:54

Good luck @craigth162

I have a starting weight of 13st 3lbs and want to get to 10st (but ultimately 9st). I'm only 5ft 1in so 9st is a healthy weight but I'd be thrilled to ever see 10st.

Hope it all goes well for you!!

Had a normal lunch and am feeling very hungry for dinner. Wasn't expecting to immediately have zero appetite but am hoping it does something.
