Mounjaro, 10st or more to lose.

BookishBabe · 09/12/2024 05:43

Hello fellow mounjaro users or people thinking about starting. I have seen there is a thread for people needing to lose 5 stone plus, but even there I felt a little bit big.
I need to lose 12 stone, and even then my BMI would be 33.
Alot of people seem to be starting mounjaro with a starting BMI of 33, so I think it sometimes feels better to be among people who have the same amount to lose, 12 stone feels so daunting and scary. It's going to be a long battle.

This is my final chance before weight loss surgery, which I really don't want to do or risk.
I am 32 years old and have 2 young sons (7 and 5), one is disabled and the other is struggling and is on a reduced timetable at school. They need me to be around for a very long time and at the moment I feel like I am failing them.

I started calorie counting/a calorie controlled diet last Monday (2nd December). I was thinking about putting it off because of Christmas, but I can always come up with an excuse, so I decided to just go for it.

I weighed in at 27st and 7lbs.
At 5 ft 8 that gave me a BMI of 58.5!!!

I had some blood tests in March which showed I was prediabetic, I have done precisely nothing since then to do anything about it and have buried my head in the sand!

My mounjaro was delivered Tuesday afternoon and I took my first jab on Wednesday morning. I think its working slightly now, but I didn't feel any different for the first 3 days, but I'm either used to eating less (unlikely in 7 days) or the mounjaro has started to take effect.

So, one week in, calorie controlled diet every day, trying to get lots of protein, drinking loads, a few days of mounjaro in my system.

Weigh day time,

drum roll

26st and 11lbs!!!! 🥳

10lbs gone. I am very happy with that. I used to be able to lose 15lbs in a week when I was younger, but I was much more active back then and thanks to being so overweight I do struggle with activity.

BMI is now 57! So I've lost 1.5 on my BMI. Fingers crossed I can keep this going, I just need the number to keep going down! I'm really hoping I can be in a healthier and happier place with myself.

So, long post over.

Does anyone with 10st or more to lose want to join me here?

I know its daunting but I think if anyone feels like me, this is probably our last hope before surgery and our health is probably starting to decline or already has due to the weight we have on our bodies.

Me!

My stats so far … Weekly weigh ins and injection. Second 5ml dose was on Saturday morning.

My starting BMI 50.4
Week 1 weigh in -14lbs
Week 2 weigh in -9lbs
Week 3 weigh in -5lbs
Week 4 weigh in -3.5lbs
Week 5 weigh in - 7lbs
My current BMI 44.3

Even having lost 2 stone 10.5 lbs, I still have 10 to go in order to be in the middle of a properly healthy weight. It feels such a long way to go but I’m so glad I started trying this side of Christmas.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 09/12/2024 06:38

My bmi is over 50 (haven't weighed recently so not sure exactly but I was 21st7)

I'm going to be starting MJ next year so am going to sneak onto the thread. I'm hoping to also start adhd medication and didn't want to start both at the same time.

I'm similarly thinking surgery was the only answer. So many places of advice and even my dr seem to think you can just tweak what you eat but I honestly think at morbidly obese your entire body brain chemistry has changed.

I'm really hoping MJ works and itching to start. I'm aware it could take a couple of years and even more aware I may need to look at a maintenance dose (I so hope the prices come down 😬).

Im slightly scared ill get bad side effects or soemthing as I'm really pinning my last hope on this. I too have kids who have a large mum who isn't super mobile and I so want it to be different.

I too saw the 5 stone to lose threads and thought I'd currently be v happy at that point! I'm surprised people are using MJ for just one or two stone too.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 09/12/2024 06:39

Wow Olivia that's a huge loss.!! 🎉

Iwouldratherbesinging · 09/12/2024 08:06

I’ll jump in too! At my heaviest a few years ago I was 21st 7 with a bmi of 51.7, lost weight with the 5:2 diet, then yo yo’d for a year or so, but started MJ in October at 19st 2 with a bmi of 46. I always calculated everything with my height at 5ft 4 but somehow I’ve lost an inch and I’m 5ft 3 😂so my bmi is probably a bit higher.
Just taken my first 7.5mg and weigh in day is tomorrow (week 9)
I’m a slow and steady loser averaging between 2 - 2.6 lbs a week, at my last weigh in I was 17st 12.4 lbs.
I wish I had started sooner!
@BookishBabe 10lbs off is amazing, a real boost for your confidence!
I expected a big loss in my first week after reading everyone’s initial losses but lost 3.8 lbs, I was initially disappointed but had a word with myself and I’ve realised that no two people have the same journey.
@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden I too was worried about side effects but I’m 9 weeks in and my only issue is constipation. I had to dig up and move a fatsia japonica from the garden this year as it was turning into a giant tree 😂
@OliviaFlaversham You are doing so well!

BookishBabe · 09/12/2024 08:37

Hey 👋🏻
Welcome.
@OliviaFlaversham well done. I really hope I can stick to my good eating on days when it feels harder. I also thought I've got to start now, it's meant to be a lifestyle change, waiting till after Christmas so I can carry on pigging out goes against everything a lifestyle change is supposed to be.

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden it is hard being an inactive Mom. My husband does the school runs now because 1) I'm so unactivate and 2) I'm so worried they'll get bullied for having a fat Mom. But the less I do, the less I can do. And it's just made me fatter and unhealthier. I really hope your ADHD meds help you feel better too.

@Iwouldratherbesinging I did some research on WLI around a year ago but was adamant I could do it on my own. But obviously I can't and haven't!
I wish I'd started 9 weeks ago! Are you feeling better in yourself?

TorturedParentsDepartment · 09/12/2024 08:43

I'm 6 1/2 weeks in - started at 24st 12lb and am now 22st 3lb - long way to go though.

2025istheyear · 09/12/2024 08:55

Started at 19 stone 9 5 weeks ago now 18 stone 6.
171.3 cm tall. BMI 39.9 now.

Would like to get to 9 stone 7 by 2026 but will be happy under 11 stone.

Slow and steady loss.

I exercise regularly too trying to keep my muscle mass.

Feel like this is my last shot.

SilenceInside · 09/12/2024 08:58

Hi @BookishBabe I'm on the >5st and the >6st threads that are around, but that's only half of what I need to lose. When I started my BMI was 50 and I was 22st. I'm in my 23rd week of taking Mounjaro, I've lost 6 stone and have another 6 stone to go. That would get me just into the healthy BMI range. Time seems to have flown by since I started, and the scales keep ticking on down. Sometimes I have a short plateau and then it's back on to the downwards trend. Hopefully by the start of next summer I'll be at or approaching my end goal weight.

Iwouldratherbesinging · 09/12/2024 10:40

I also like to think that as we are on this journey for a much longer time than those who have two stone or thereabouts to lose, we won’t struggle as much when we come to the end of our MJ journey and working on maintaining our weight, it’ll be our new normal as we have been doing it for so long. We will be used to the smaller portions, the healthy eating, the not eating our emotions, does that make sense? I’m not currently worried about what will happen at goal (ask me agin in a years time and I may feel differently!)

@BookishBabe I definitely feel better in my mind as I don’t have this constant feeling of ‘I’m going to be fat forever, whatever I do I fail…’ Physically, I feel small changes, the little things such as cutting toenails is a little easier, I can reach places I couldn’t easily reach in the shower 😂, if I drop something I’m not thinking ‘uh oh’, I just reach down and pick it up. I had a pain under my left heel that has magically gone and lower back pain in the morning has definitely eased.

JusteanBiscuits · 09/12/2024 11:27

I need to lose more than 10st to achieve "healthy" weight, but I know for me that would NOT be a health weight or me. So I don't actually have a goal in mind.

But 10lb in a week, on I presume starting dose on Mounjaro?? My consultant told me to aim for maximum of 5lb a week else you are at risk of malnourishment. He said if I lost more than 5lb a week regularly he would consider taking me off it!

Everdecreasingcircle · 09/12/2024 12:30

I started Mounjaro in May and in 7 months have lost 6.5 stone. My starting BMI was 49.
This stuff is amazing and after 30 odd years of yo-yo dieting this is the easiest I have ever found to lose weight. Got a way to go but know I can do it this time.
Wishing everyone the greatest success on their journey. This stuff really works. Only problem is what to wear now ?!!!!

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 09/12/2024 13:42

Wow. So many of you are doing amazing! I hope to follow in your footsteps.

Doggymummar · 09/12/2024 13:49

Well done all of you for starting. I started about 18 months ago now with 10 stone ideally to lose if you believe in BMI, I'm not sure I do. I have set myself a goal of 100lb and I'm more than half way there. So I may not post here again as I only have 5 stone left now but I just wanted to say well done. Every pound counts and even tho I have only lost about a stone this year I have kept going through the plateaus and have barely ever gained. Your body lets it go eventually.

morbidcuriosity · 09/12/2024 14:33

According to nhs bmi chart I would need to lose about 10 stone to be healthy weight. That's not going to happen. Think my personal goal is 7 stone . But your right when I read some of the other threads and people want to lose 2 stone or 2 and a half I felt I had so much more to lose.
Glad of the 5 stone and 6 stone or more threads, and am happy to see this one, so if you don't mind me joining this I would love too.

user1471556818 · 09/12/2024 15:00

I started at 24 stone now on 4th jab have lost 11lbs .I know I'm on this for a long time and that's OK
I dont want to lose a stone a week , well, i do but know thats not good for your body .
I've done all the diets and have lost 5 stone in the past but always put it back on. This time the plan is ingrain the good habits while the food noise has gone .
Good luck everyone

Coffeekitten · 09/12/2024 16:35

Hi all,

Joining this thread as lovely to read great results.
My BMI was 51 but I lost 3 stone on Orlistat in 2023 so now at 43. Want to give Mounjoro a try as I have since plateaued and stopped losing.

Can I please ask where you all buy yours from?

SilenceInside · 09/12/2024 17:48

@Coffeekitten you can buy Mounjaro from dozens of registered online pharmacies, I use Asda for example. You can check out a list of GPhC registered pharmacies on comparison websites like

monj.co.uk

Some places do a subscription service where you get sent the next monthly pen automatically unless you actively ask to change it. Most just send you out the next pen when you decide to re-order. Some offer various levels of counselling and support if that's of interest.

SilenceInside · 09/12/2024 17:53

I would also say to those that are just starting, that time has just flown by and the weight just keeps coming off. I find the changes brought about by Mounjaro to be amazing, it's incredibly liberating not to be constantly stressed about food and eating. It's a very relaxing state of mind to be in, for me. I find I have way more energy, get more stuff done and am sleeping better than before I started.

Iwouldratherbesinging · 09/12/2024 18:03

I’d like to second what @SilenceInside has just said, it is so liberating. I feel so much lighter in my mind. I often see people saying things like ‘I still want to enjoy food though’. I do still enjoy food, I enjoy cooking it and eating it, I just eat normal portions and don’t go back for seconds or thirds. I don’t obsess constantly over stuff that’s in the fridge or the cupboards, it’s a little liquid miracle.
I am going to time my injection over Christmas as I struggle to have any sort of appetite on day 2 and 3 after injecting, so I’m going to jab on the Thursday before, then my next will be due the day after Boxing Day

Gosh your stats are identical to mine, other than that I'm 4 weeks in and down to 18st 12 as of Friday. If I could hit 10st anything I'd be beyond thrilled but it feels too far off to think about at the moment.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 09/12/2024 20:45

That's so reassuring silence and I would as I've just seen the thread where it talks about depression and lethargy 😬

My ADHD symptoms are so much less since being on MJ. I can focus better, less procrastination, my mind is less jumpy, I don’t get time paralysis as much. No idea of the science behind it but something is very different!

AubreysMonkey · 09/12/2024 21:40

I started at the end of April with a BMI of 46.2 .. it's now 34.5.

It's a wonder drug 🤩

2025istheyear · 09/12/2024 23:33

@PinkArt it is good to get in the 18’s before Xmas. I am happy with a slow steady loss I know I will likely have a boost in January when I purge the naughty food after Xmas and give up alcohol for a few months too. Although alcohol is greatly reduced.

Massive changes in my shopping habits. I am saving so much money not spending on other stuff because I don’t just pop to the shops now. I use to be a bit food obsessed always having to have certain things that go together, now I am happy making do with what’s in the fridge and cupboards. It is liberating!!!

PinkArt · 10/12/2024 00:30

Definitely, @2025istheyear . I should be on track to weigh by Christmas what I weighed last Christmas and there's something both cathartic and motivating about seeing out the year having undone the damage done this year.
Weirdly I haven't broken the snack buying habit, despite breaking the eating habit, so I now have a bag full of Christmas treats just lurking 🤦🏻‍♀️ I'm easily stocked up until Easter though so that should mean some good NY savings.
