Mounjaro, 10st or more to lose.

BookishBabe · 09/12/2024 05:43

Hello fellow mounjaro users or people thinking about starting. I have seen there is a thread for people needing to lose 5 stone plus, but even there I felt a little bit big.
I need to lose 12 stone, and even then my BMI would be 33.
Alot of people seem to be starting mounjaro with a starting BMI of 33, so I think it sometimes feels better to be among people who have the same amount to lose, 12 stone feels so daunting and scary. It's going to be a long battle.

This is my final chance before weight loss surgery, which I really don't want to do or risk.
I am 32 years old and have 2 young sons (7 and 5), one is disabled and the other is struggling and is on a reduced timetable at school. They need me to be around for a very long time and at the moment I feel like I am failing them.

I started calorie counting/a calorie controlled diet last Monday (2nd December). I was thinking about putting it off because of Christmas, but I can always come up with an excuse, so I decided to just go for it.

I weighed in at 27st and 7lbs.
At 5 ft 8 that gave me a BMI of 58.5!!!

I had some blood tests in March which showed I was prediabetic, I have done precisely nothing since then to do anything about it and have buried my head in the sand!

My mounjaro was delivered Tuesday afternoon and I took my first jab on Wednesday morning. I think its working slightly now, but I didn't feel any different for the first 3 days, but I'm either used to eating less (unlikely in 7 days) or the mounjaro has started to take effect.

So, one week in, calorie controlled diet every day, trying to get lots of protein, drinking loads, a few days of mounjaro in my system.

Weigh day time,

drum roll

26st and 11lbs!!!! 🥳

10lbs gone. I am very happy with that. I used to be able to lose 15lbs in a week when I was younger, but I was much more active back then and thanks to being so overweight I do struggle with activity.

BMI is now 57! So I've lost 1.5 on my BMI. Fingers crossed I can keep this going, I just need the number to keep going down! I'm really hoping I can be in a healthier and happier place with myself.

So, long post over.

Does anyone with 10st or more to lose want to join me here?

I know its daunting but I think if anyone feels like me, this is probably our last hope before surgery and our health is probably starting to decline or already has due to the weight we have on our bodies.

I got the mince pies out today. They have been in the cupboard since October which In itself is amazing. First thing I did was scan them into Nutracheck - have you seen the calories omg. I would eat 4 with a whole tub of double cream or brandy butter, I ate half and the other half is still in the coffee table. Last year I stopped taking the medication for Dec and Jan and gained 10lb. Not doing that this year.

polydactylfeline · 13/12/2024 17:46

I'll join Smile. I have around 12st to lose too. I'm on week 5 and stepped up to 5ml Mounjaro. Lost 1st 6lb so far Xmas Grin

I'm exactly the same with the Ben & Jerry's! I know it's a ridiculous amount of calories, bjt until you actually put it into Nutracheck, I don't think it actually computes Confused

BookishBabe · 13/12/2024 17:55

Fudge cake and vanilla ice cream for me 😬

No more vomiting for me today.
I genuinely think it was my illness.
I have had some grilled chicken skewers for lunch and kept them down.

That's great new @BookishBabe I have a chicken thigh and some sausages tonight in a Pita Bread ( bottom of the freezer dinner) making room for the Christmas food.

Iwouldratherbesinging · 13/12/2024 23:22

Bread is was my downfall, I study a loaf like my DH studies a bottle of red wine, it must be the right colour, not too dark, and if the sides look squidgy then it’s perfect, oh and aldi croissants, I haven’t had one for weeks and I don’t even miss them!

@polydactylfeline that’s a brilliant loss

PotatoBreadForTheWin · 14/12/2024 08:37

Incredible losses @SilenceInside well done!!

I'm losing much more slowly than others seem to (2 stone in 3 months, from a starting weight of over 22 stone) and can't decide whether to increase my dose.

I've stayed on 5mg and just don't seem to be as affected by side effects as others. I can eat normal meals, although I often don't finish them - but i definitely could. I don't get indigestion or smelly burps, just a bit tired on jab day. I definitely have appetite suppression as I'm hardly snacking and I've stopped eating breakfast with zero effort. I haven't told anyone I'm taking MJ, have eaten out plenty over the last 3 months and no one has noticed a change in my eating habits, DH included.

I'm basically torn about whether to increase my dose to get faster losses when it will likely cause more side effects. I think I should probably just accept that I'll lose slowly, this is going to be a long journey for me regardless.

Well I haven’t heard back from my gp at all, I’m going to give it a few days then try again. I suppose its not an urgent matter.

I just know I will be so annoyed if it turns out I can have them on the nhs and I have spent all that money on them 😬

but I’m also keen to get the first dose before Christmas as I have a feeling it might become popular in January…. Could help with prices though…

in other news, I have managed to walk (shuffle) 3000 steps on my bad ankle!

If you have t2 diabetes or heart disease you are likely to get it. If it is "just" for weight loss it's very unlikely a GP would prescribe it.. you'd need to be referred to weight loss clinic

BookishBabe · 15/12/2024 05:44

Every area is different. But I went to the GP last year with a BMI of nearly 60 and pre-diabetes and I'm still on the waiting list to be referred to the weight management clinic! I'll be dead before they prescribed me WLI.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 15/12/2024 05:51

Yep that seems to be similar here.

They shouldn't dnagle these services in front of us if not actually existing/accessible.

I've been asking for help since I was a few stone lighter and actually earlier intervention would have helped a lot!!

JusteanBiscuits · 15/12/2024 09:29

This is what too many years of NHS underfunding does. They literally wouldn't be able cope with the flood of people. I think things will be very different in five years time though.. :(

Grumpyoldthing · 15/12/2024 12:49

Thank you guys . Could anyone direct me to the referral code page please?

hubby has said that he will do it with me as well - nothing like a hand hold !

he has nowhere near as much as me to lose , but he does have a good 50lb that needs shifting

SilenceInside · 15/12/2024 13:01

@Grumpyoldthing here's the discount thread where people post their codes:

Thread for referral/discount codes - please don't post elsewhere - Thread 2 www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weight-loss-injections/5211720-thread-for-referraldiscount-codes-please-dont-post-elsewhere-thread-2

I'm so glad so many people are in the same boat (but also sorry you are in the same boat as me iyswim).
Sometimes it feels a bit lonely being bigger.
Jab day again tomorrow!
I felt like I had no effects at all last week, and I didn't even understand "food noise", but actually I think i was better on Sunday and I've thought about nothing but food today, even though I'm not hungry.
But I've still managed to stay within my calories, but idea of bad side effects is keeping me in control.

[Referral code removed by MNHQ]

What is everyone else eating?
Other than Sunday when i had a much smaller roast dinner than usual, I've been having premade portions like salads, Soups and myprotein ready meals. I don't know if I can cope with making my own portions yet as my mind is so skewed.

Hi , would you send me your code maybe by inbox ? I have found the code referral thread now but I think seen as though you are inspiring me I should use yours ! Which pharmacy did you use?

BookishBabe · 15/12/2024 14:54

@grumpyoldthing ohhh, that's really thoughtful, thank you. I have PM'd you.

How's everyone doing?
I have been having some diarrhea, not terrible and no cramps. I don't feel bad, and it might still be the after effects of the flu.

Next weigh day tomorrow, just hoping to see the number go down!

thank you, I’m just trying to sort out my finances so we can start asap .

it’s going to be a real stretch financially for us , but I think long term it’s worth it 🤞

I always find some sort of code when ordering, I also make my pens last a little longer (I'm not condoning or recommending this but I'm an adult and have made informed choices ;) )

I spent a fortune on food before. Even when I have dieted in the past I have always bought lots of 'diet' foods, this time I'm not actually that bothered about food at all so (eg) if there is nothing in the fridge for work I'll make random things like tomato sandwiches or crackers and half a cucumber 😆

Morning Everyone 🌄

Weigh day this morning!

My start weight 2 weeks ago was 27st 7lbs.
Last Monday I was 26st 11lbs, so I'd lost 10lbs.

Today, drumroll 🥁

26st 2lbs! Another 9lbs gone.
Okay, I've had the flu and had some sickness and diarrhea because of that. But still.
19lbs gone in 2 weeks!

Excellent @BookishBabe it is a life changer for us all. The hope it brings.

My DH and Uni kids (home for Xmas) are off to Costco today to get their eyes tested. Normally I would be there shopping like a mad person especially before Xmas. I do not want to go! I will prep a chilli for dinner and go to the gym instead. DH has a list of what we NEED he may go off piste but less so than I would have.

I am losing small or maintains over December but I am happy with this.

Lobsterteapot · 16/12/2024 09:16

@BookishBabe Brilliant! You’re an inspiration!

peonym · 16/12/2024 11:44

Wow what an incredible loss so far! Brilliant work. It really is a miracle drug.

Just here to say that the 5stone group is actually 5 stone or MORE so please don't feel like you can't join if you've a good bit more than that. I started at almost 19 stone, have a target weight of 10 stone (will still be overweight at that) and have lost almost 4 already and that group is really friendly and supportive if you feel like joining an extra thread.

Good luck on the journey!
