Mounjaro, 10st or more to lose.

BookishBabe · 09/12/2024 05:43

Hello fellow mounjaro users or people thinking about starting. I have seen there is a thread for people needing to lose 5 stone plus, but even there I felt a little bit big.
I need to lose 12 stone, and even then my BMI would be 33.
Alot of people seem to be starting mounjaro with a starting BMI of 33, so I think it sometimes feels better to be among people who have the same amount to lose, 12 stone feels so daunting and scary. It's going to be a long battle.

This is my final chance before weight loss surgery, which I really don't want to do or risk.
I am 32 years old and have 2 young sons (7 and 5), one is disabled and the other is struggling and is on a reduced timetable at school. They need me to be around for a very long time and at the moment I feel like I am failing them.

I started calorie counting/a calorie controlled diet last Monday (2nd December). I was thinking about putting it off because of Christmas, but I can always come up with an excuse, so I decided to just go for it.

I weighed in at 27st and 7lbs.
At 5 ft 8 that gave me a BMI of 58.5!!!

I had some blood tests in March which showed I was prediabetic, I have done precisely nothing since then to do anything about it and have buried my head in the sand!

My mounjaro was delivered Tuesday afternoon and I took my first jab on Wednesday morning. I think its working slightly now, but I didn't feel any different for the first 3 days, but I'm either used to eating less (unlikely in 7 days) or the mounjaro has started to take effect.

So, one week in, calorie controlled diet every day, trying to get lots of protein, drinking loads, a few days of mounjaro in my system.

Weigh day time,

drum roll

26st and 11lbs!!!! 🥳

10lbs gone. I am very happy with that. I used to be able to lose 15lbs in a week when I was younger, but I was much more active back then and thanks to being so overweight I do struggle with activity.

BMI is now 57! So I've lost 1.5 on my BMI. Fingers crossed I can keep this going, I just need the number to keep going down! I'm really hoping I can be in a healthier and happier place with myself.

So, long post over.

Does anyone with 10st or more to lose want to join me here?

I know its daunting but I think if anyone feels like me, this is probably our last hope before surgery and our health is probably starting to decline or already has due to the weight we have on our bodies.

I must be a weird shape!

Doggymummar · 10/12/2024 19:10

I was a 16/18 at 18 stone, and at 13.5 stone I am still the same. There was just a lot of overhang before, and I WFH so I am in leggings and and jeggings a lot..I was thinking earlier I could maybe try a 14 jeans but am waiting for the sales.

Darlinghag · 10/12/2024 21:25

just popping my thoughts on sizing - it really can vary cant it! I am 5’3, 16st 7 and a 16-20 right now! I have lost 4st 7, and in my first stone dropped from a 26/28 to 22/24. It must just be down to preference on clothing fit, where your weight sits, and I find my fat is super soft now (not loose skin!) now I am 4.5 months into my MJ journey - its like everything is more pliable!

lots of us on the 5st plus thread have 10st to lose - i do! I could lose 7 stone more and still be at the upper end of healthy weight i think!!

Nosyguest · 10/12/2024 21:34

I’m hoping to start in the new year, I’ve been going alone after coming off saxenda in August. I’m still losing but my starting bmi was 52. I’m currently at 41. But on my own it’s a slow process and so going to try mj when i get back from my holiday. I’ve paid a lot of money and don’t want side effects from eating and enjoying myself while I’m away.

So I’m 4.5stone down, 5.5 to go

My wife started at the same weight as me and with mj she’s lost 7st 5. I’m very jealous and so excited to start.

Good luck everyone with your journey

Iwouldratherbesinging · 10/12/2024 22:27

@Coffeekitten and @PinkArt It’s really bizarre isn’t it, weight having nothing to do with size, at least in this little cohort. Makes you wonder about the ‘big boned’ theory, do your bones weigh heavier than my bones? I do have skinny ankles 😆 the rest of me is just fat. I have memories of my mum buying me frumpy old lady skirts in a size 18 when I was about 14 years old (I’m 57 now), I must have been about 12/13 stone then. I can wear size 24 jeans, but my top half is 26/28, 28’s are starting to feel a bit roomy finally!

Hi everyone

im jumping on this thread, as I am seriously considering the jabs starting next year

for us it’s the first time that we have been able to afford them

current weight 21st 7 bmi 50.1

I have lost 12lb naturally?! Since August, by upping my steps to 10k and trying a tiny bit better with what I’m eating

however , last Thursday i slipped down a field in the rain , and busted my leg. Luckily not broken , but I’m struggling to walk with crutches, am only working mornings this week , have a cold , in pain and it feels a bit like I have completely set myself back

Ouch! Sounds painful, and a cold on top doesn’t help! You won’t regret starting, it’s the best decision I’ve made in a long time.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 10/12/2024 22:42

I literally can't wear jeans. I have so much roundness. In much bigger than when I wa pregnant. I am so looking forwards to wearing clothes. And sitting without a beach ball. I think that will be over a year away and realistically I'll have a lot of apron skin. But it will be so worth it.

Grumpyoldthing · 11/12/2024 04:25

Is it worth seeing if the doctor will prescribe it first ? Or is there no chance ?

I have seen it for £219 a month in boots , and £149 first month in loydds , but increasing as the dosage increases.

it’s a bit more expensive than I thought

Workiskilligme · 11/12/2024 04:41

Well done everyone, I'm so excited for you.

OMGJustCalculatedMyBMI · 11/12/2024 04:54

Great thread. Finally got the courage to get on scales last week - not far of 19 stone. WTF. I've been overweight before but never this bad. Got sight of myself in a shop window this week and saw what I really look like - morbidly obese, pink faced and just a bloody mess.

Been really ill this year with a constant stream of one virus after the other. No doubt in part due to my weight and poor eating habits. I even noticed for the first time in my life I had swollen ankles. No energy to get anything done and feeling embarrased when I go out.

Started another (another!) weight loss journey/ healthy eating plan last week.
Not on MJ just now but if I can't do it myself I think I might have to seriously consider going on it. Something about injecting myself makes me feel queezy.

So 7 stone to lose to get to the very top of the 'normal BMI' and if I want to aim for the middle of normal BMI it's gonna be more.

So far I am eating protein plus salad or protein plus veg and then for snacks fruit, boiled eggs and natural yog/kefir.

I think my problem is I love carbs - huge portions of pasta, crisps, cake, icecream.

I'm cheating by spending the money I may have to use for MJ to buy really good for me food that is also really easy to cook and tasty. My aim being to lose weight but also improve my immune system.

So today Waitrose venison plus waitrose ready to micro veggies for lunch. Dinner waitrose organic salmon, 2 baked tomatoes and 2 organic betroots. Snacks - 1 apple and eying up a pear. Next to no cooking involved. Just chuck in oven tray for the meats and tomatoes. Micro other veggies. Can't be doing with following difficult meal plans or recipes.

I have to say eating like this ie whole foods, nothing processed is tasty and filling and I'm not really hungry. However I've lapsed already and eaten chocolate from the cupboard on 2 seperate occassions. I'm a huge comfort eater and so upset - I reach for the naughty food. It's all finished now so must not buy any more. Perhaps some dark chocolate so it's just if I really, really need something sweet and try and limit to a square or two.

I'm so jealous of people who are naturally slim and don't yo yo. I have a friend who is 5ft 9 and size 12 and she has never wavered from this. No buying of clothes in several sizes for her.

Good luck to us all. I'll be reading your comments to see how everyone is getting on with the MJ in case I need to take it.

So far I've lost about 4-5 lbs in just over a week.

PotatoBreadForTheWin · 11/12/2024 05:37

I am glad to know there are others out there facing the same challenge as me. Reading the other threads I often feel so despondent when I compare how far I have to go, and also the rate of weight loss as I seem to be losing slower than most.

I've been on mounjaro since the start of September and have lost 2 stones in that time. It's 2 of at least 10 that I'd need to lose to put me at a healthy BMI - I suspect closer to 12 stone to be honest but I haven’t actually checked as it's too far away for me.

Best of luck to everyone on this thread, it feels like mounjaro has the power to change our lives in such a positive way.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 11/12/2024 07:02

@Grumpyoldthing it's always worth an ask I think. I think areas seem to differ slightly too.

Our area isn't prescribing unless you're either diabetic or even with the new rules a Google told me you'd have to have 3 coexisting consitions. I asked the Nurse Practicioner and she was very disssmisive too 🙄.

Tier 2 here is SW/WW or individual coaching. It's well meaning but it's very much "what are you going to do this week" with no direction.

Tier 3 is the lead into bariatric surgery and you have to have done tier 2 for 2 years. I'm going to ask to see if I can go on the waiting list just in case it makes any difference to drugs in the future.

Its a shame that at a bmi of 50+ it's not available on the NHS and that they're promoting an operation instead. Surely this is cheaper...

AubreysMonkey · 11/12/2024 07:07

Size is a funny one isn't it!! I'm a size 18 in non-stretch clothes, I'm 15stone 12ib, 171cm

I think the 'non-stretch' is the benchmark! I wore size 20 jeggings at 22stone - I didn't tend to buy 'non-stretch' at my biggest so in reality I was probably a 24-26 .. I just never bought that size!!

WombTangClan · 11/12/2024 07:16

Just saying hi!
Started MJ early September at 24 St 9lb 18 months after finishing cancer treatment.
Never been able to get weight off.
Weighed in this morning
4st gone!!!

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 11/12/2024 08:55

Wow 4 stone! That's incredible! Have you followed a particular eating pattern or done much else different?

And so pleased for you that you finished cancer treatment. I can only imagine how frightening that must be.

Curvy4life · 11/12/2024 09:01

@Grumpyoldthing in my area (Sussex) it isn’t being prescribed yet but no harm asking. I have a 45% off code with Voy, so if you are interested let me know and I can share with you x

Wow, amazing, on both counts! A bright future ahead 😊

WombTangClan · 11/12/2024 09:59

Just smaller meals and lots of protein. Chocolate doesn't taste the same which is amazing 😂

Tuuudu · 11/12/2024 11:06

In case it helps and you want to start with a pharmacy that does do maintenance, here’s my list of o es I believe do do maintenance:-

Pharmulous - private* and maintenance dose
Voy, Medino, UK Meds and Mayfair Weightloss - will do maintenance but will inform GP

*private here means they leave it to you to inform your GP, though most people don’t mind.

PinkArt · 11/12/2024 11:20

If it might help @OMGJustCalculatedMyBMI, have a look at how tiny the needle is. I never thought I'd be able to jab myself, to the extent that when I needed emergency fragmin jabs a while back I literally couldn't do it and the hospital came up with a plan b for me. The Mounjaro needle is so, so tiny though that even someone as squeamish as me can do it.

I don't know if it helps but Mounjaro literally kills food noise. You don't want to 'break' and reach for the chocolate at all.

BookishBabe · 11/12/2024 12:39

I'm 27st and kept saying I'm a size 24.
I am absolutely kidding no one!
My size 28 coat is a bit snug but it does fit, I just can't really raise my arms! I waddle more than I walk.
No jeans or trousers for me, god knows what size I would need.
I only manage to stay in size 24s because of stretchy flowy clothes.

Curvy4life · 11/12/2024 13:49

@BookishBabe I’m similar to you but heavier and bigger clothes sizes.
I said I would never diet again as over the years I’ve lost and gained more than I began with more times than I can count, but it’s making me ill so really hoping MJ quietens the food noise and I don’t struggle with bad side effects as this is my last chance.

Yes, I very much feel like it's my last chance.
I cannot go through surgery, I just don't feel like it would be the right decision for me.
I swear I say I'm going to diet every Monday, it gets to lunch time and I'm ordering a pizza 🤦🏻‍♀️
The idea of restricting myself only makes me want to eat more, so I tried to just stop worrying, which means my weight has stabilised, but its stabilised at 27st!
I've always been "I'm fat and healthy" but I'm not healthy anymore, out of breathe going up the stairs, prediabetic, can't walk long distances without lower back pain. My DH and DC have had to change their lives to accommodate my weight and the challenges it brings.
I'm absolutely embarrassed about myself and if I hear any laughing or joking anywhere near me I automatically assume it's at me and because of my size!
My DH actually really fancies me fat, I was 13st when we met and a curvy size 14 with a small waist. I can't believe he likes me like this, but it makes it even harder because while he is supportive, he's also wishes I was just happy with myself how I am now. That sounds a bit "diamond shoes too tight" after the terrible husbands you read on here, but it feels like I have even less motivation to do something about myself.

2025istheyear · 12/12/2024 08:40

It is going to be harder for you with a DH who finds you more attractive at 27 stone. You may need some therapy to help you navigate this dynamic within your relationship. How is he supporting you practically to lose the weight?
