Mounjaro, 10st or more to lose.

BookishBabe · 09/12/2024 05:43

Hello fellow mounjaro users or people thinking about starting. I have seen there is a thread for people needing to lose 5 stone plus, but even there I felt a little bit big.
I need to lose 12 stone, and even then my BMI would be 33.
Alot of people seem to be starting mounjaro with a starting BMI of 33, so I think it sometimes feels better to be among people who have the same amount to lose, 12 stone feels so daunting and scary. It's going to be a long battle.

This is my final chance before weight loss surgery, which I really don't want to do or risk.
I am 32 years old and have 2 young sons (7 and 5), one is disabled and the other is struggling and is on a reduced timetable at school. They need me to be around for a very long time and at the moment I feel like I am failing them.

I started calorie counting/a calorie controlled diet last Monday (2nd December). I was thinking about putting it off because of Christmas, but I can always come up with an excuse, so I decided to just go for it.

I weighed in at 27st and 7lbs.
At 5 ft 8 that gave me a BMI of 58.5!!!

I had some blood tests in March which showed I was prediabetic, I have done precisely nothing since then to do anything about it and have buried my head in the sand!

My mounjaro was delivered Tuesday afternoon and I took my first jab on Wednesday morning. I think its working slightly now, but I didn't feel any different for the first 3 days, but I'm either used to eating less (unlikely in 7 days) or the mounjaro has started to take effect.

So, one week in, calorie controlled diet every day, trying to get lots of protein, drinking loads, a few days of mounjaro in my system.

Weigh day time,

drum roll

26st and 11lbs!!!! 🥳

10lbs gone. I am very happy with that. I used to be able to lose 15lbs in a week when I was younger, but I was much more active back then and thanks to being so overweight I do struggle with activity.

BMI is now 57! So I've lost 1.5 on my BMI. Fingers crossed I can keep this going, I just need the number to keep going down! I'm really hoping I can be in a healthier and happier place with myself.

So, long post over.

Does anyone with 10st or more to lose want to join me here?

I know its daunting but I think if anyone feels like me, this is probably our last hope before surgery and our health is probably starting to decline or already has due to the weight we have on our bodies.

Great decision, my partner has autism and we sometimes have to cut our losses and leave somewhere. There's no point ruining a whole day (diet) just cos you spent the money all ready

2025istheyear · 12/12/2024 18:09

So I ate a bit too much at lunch and paying for it now on the loo (IYKWIM).

That is me for the day though. Off to bed to watch TV.

I do have a girls day out in a couple of weeks so glad I experienced this now so I can plan what I can eat and toilet accessibility.

Have any of you eaten out on 5mg or more? What did you have?

TorturedParentsDepartment · 12/12/2024 20:18

I re-jabbed 5mg today, last day or two I have had RAGING food cravings from hell - so much that we ordered takeaway last night and I had a chicken fillet in a bun (ditched the bun) with bacon on top and a handful of DH's chips... and some onion rings the kids largely nicked, and today I've been bloody desperate for some chocolate and crisps. Avoided the crisps but staved off the chocolate by having a velvetiser hot chocolate with like stupidly high percentage hotel chocolate hot choc flakes on it.

Hoping that the food noise dial goes back down tomorrow when the jab tends to kick in for me - or I'm going to crack!

2025istheyear · 12/12/2024 20:22

Did you have any side effects from the take away?

I am still eating crisps and chocolate. A bit anyway not as much. Still losing 1 to 1.5 lbs a week and I expect to maintain over Christmas.

I will purge all naughty food and drink in January as I usually do. I lost 2 stone last year from Jan to March no WLI but put it all back on.

Hoping WLI’s will help me keep the momentum up in 2025!

TorturedParentsDepartment · 12/12/2024 20:36

No side effects yet - but I know now that I jab on Thursday and if I'm going to have a rough week it'll be egg burps starting Friday mid-morning and then close encounters of the toilet kind from Friday afternoon to Saturday lunchtime - fairly predictably!

I went out for a 10 course tasting menu a few weeks back!!! That worked quite well as the courses are all dinky, and I tasted the pudding but let my son's finish it. Last week when I went out I had a starter and ordered another starter for main course, which again, worked really well. And when I went out for a curry "with the girls" I ordered two sides (saag paneer and an okra one) and no rice. And I was 100% happy with it!

Doggymummar · 12/12/2024 20:54

We had a takeaway last night and I ate the rice. I've been poorly all day mind, just the burps but not nice. I went out for my birthday in November to the Ivy Asia and we had the tapas menu as no-one could see how little I ate. That was fine

2025istheyear · 12/12/2024 21:08

Think I will stick to starters. Not out of the eat what is on my plate mentality. Much better at not filling the plate too much when I serve it but I still finish what’s on my plate.

Thanks for the advice.

BookishBabe · 13/12/2024 02:12

Ohhh no. I'm up and being sick.
I last ate at 2:30pm yesterday afternoon, a small ready meal that was maybe a bit too spicy.
Just went for a wee and started throwing up, some of it is undigested even thought it's been nearly 12 hours since i last ate. Whoops. No more spicy stuff for me.
Nice ready me that turned out to be not so nice attached.

Mounjaro, 10st or more to lose.

Okay, I'm now hot and feverish. Thinking it might actually just be a bug as my DH has similar on Tuesday, up all night being sick. I was just very quick to point the finger at Mounjaro.
Had a lot of stress and health issues this month and it's all getting on top of me.

Oh no hope you feel better soon.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 13/12/2024 07:13

Also, just to be "mum" - could it be a reaction to the MJ and if so should you get it checked out /ring the Dr or 111 tk be sure?

Iwouldratherbesinging · 13/12/2024 07:42

@BookishBabe oh no, that’s rotten, hope you feel better soon, there are an awful lot of bugs doing the rounds at the moment, including the dreaded norovirus.

TorturedParentsDepartment · 13/12/2024 08:55

Yep - norovirus is really doing the rounds (I went on a visit yesterday and was chirpily informed "oh yeah everyone's had noro last week but we think it's over now" - like thanks!)

I find if I go very plain the day before and OF jab I'm usually better off, and if I push the fluids as well. Then if the burps appear - head them off as best I can with peppermint oil capsules and a couple of Rennies, and I spend the day sucking mint imperials as well.

JusteanBiscuits · 13/12/2024 09:40

I posted about very worrying side effects a little while ago - everything I ate went straight through me. Turns out, it was food poisoning!

JusteanBiscuits · 13/12/2024 09:42

One thing that came to me in the night. I eat a table spoon of unpasteurised sauerkraut every day for healthy gut bacteria. I wonder if that helps with the side effects?

GnomeDePlume · 13/12/2024 09:58

Just had my 4th 2.5 jab yesterday. No major side effects. Occasional brief periods of nausea but I'm diabetic so that's par for the course.

Difficult to judge weight loss so far (I'm at the top end of what my scales can cope with) but I think it is around 12 pounds. And that is with no real effort.

Only another 150 pounds to go to hit 10 stone.

Not had the eggy burps. I wonder if that is because I don't eat eggs (make me nauseous). I do drink a lot of black chai tea so I get chai tea burps. Which are fine!

Next jab will be 5 so I will be interested to see if effect (and side effects) ramps up.

Doggymummar · 13/12/2024 10:17

Sorry you were sick. Hopefully it will pass and was just a bug, it's not a pattern yet.

I used to be sick everyday on Ryselbus which is the tablet form of Ozempic and it was always undigested food, I became very malnourished and lost a lot of hair. Hence stopping. The two worst times were at a THAI restaurant and after having pizza. Both times with people I wasn't honest with and was trying to put on a show of eating normally. So I would say don't do that it's a shame we have to eat bland, but all that stuff will be there when we're done. Rest up xxxx

SilenceInside · 13/12/2024 10:19

@BookishBabe hope you're feeling better soon, that sounds rough.

Today is my weigh in and injection day. This is my 23rd complete week on Mounjaro and I've just done my 24th injection. As of today I have lost 6 stone. My losses over the weeks have been:

-9,-2,-7,-3,-6,-4,-1,-4,-3,-4,-3,-5,-2,-7,-3,-2,-4,+1,-5,-2,-6,0,-3

I've gone from 21st 12lbs to 15st 12lbs, which is a BMI of almost 50 to a BMI of 36. I've got another 5st 8lbs to go until I reach my target weight.

I've been on 7.5mg for around 13 weeks now and I am continuing with 7.5mg as it's working well for me and I don't have much in the way of side effects.

Iwouldratherbesinging · 13/12/2024 11:31

@SilenceInside Oh my goodness! I think you deserve one of these 🏆 that’s absolutely amazing, you must feel so proud. I can’t wait till I get there…

PinkArt · 13/12/2024 11:39

I logged my first stone lost today 🥳 Just loads to go!

Curvy4life · 13/12/2024 12:27

@SilenceInside that's incredible well done. Interesting to see your numbers and that you lost significantly even on 2.5mg at the beginning.

@BookishBabe sorry to hear you are unwell. I hope it passes quickly.

I’m learning so much from this group so thank you to everyone x

SilenceInside · 13/12/2024 12:38

@Iwouldratherbesinging thanks for the trophy 😀I find it hard to be proud of myself, but I am very pleased with how it's all going.

@PinkArt a stone is fab, time will fly and you'll get there.

@Curvy4life thanks. I had pretty much instant suppression from the day of my first injection of 2.5mg which very much surprised me. I had an awful crisp habit (several packs a day 😬), and from day one that stopped and I haven't eaten a packet since. I think I was holding a lot of water when I was 22st, my feet would swell throughout the day and my face was very puffy. I think the salt in the crisps was a lot to do with that. I was stunned to lose 9lbs in the first week but the level of swelling I had went down very quickly.

PinkArt · 09/12/2024 20:13

Gosh your stats are identical to mine, other than that I'm 4 weeks in and down to 18st 12 as of Friday. If I could hit 10st anything I'd be beyond thrilled but it feels too far off to think about at the moment.

I'm also much the same - Started at 19.12.
took my 5th jag yesterday & I'm down to 18.6

It's a total life changer. I can't believe how little I'm eating & not feeling hungry at all.

My goal is to get to at least 15 stone by the summer so I can take my niece to alton towers & fit on the rides.

user1471556818 · 13/12/2024 15:19

5th jag at 2.5 mg .1 stone down at least 10 more to go .
Glad of this thread tbh as everyone is different but oh to only have a stone to lose. However what has been wonderful and it must be how some people just naturally are , that food noise has gone .I've wandered round shops totally not interested in all the Christmas crap that I would have bought and eaten .Just not buying it this Yr dh is going to get what he wants and that's it .It's been very freeing .I'm eating smaller meals lots of protein and way less curbs, just don't fancy them .
