Usually jab day and weigh day for me on a Thursday. Jab is done, but no scales for me to weigh in on.
My dad had a massive stroke on Sunday, so I'm staying with Mum and no scales. Being reasonably good foodwise, but it's a difficult time so I'm not going to beat myself up if I'm not logging what I'm eating, or making the choices that I would if I were at home. Mum normally makes very healthy options, but last night was egg and chip shop chips. We were at the hospital nearly all day, so it was a quick and easy choice (and delicious!).
I don't want to go too far off track though, so may have to buy some scales to have delivered here.
Protein bars are going to be my friend this week I think.

Sorry to hear about your Dad.

If possible maybe pick up some things from a local supermarket or would there be a delivery type service available e.g. here we can get co-op through uber or maybe it's deliveroo.

Thinking of you and your family.

Zava have approved my 5mg, in time for me to start on Sunday

OrangeWire · 05/09/2024 12:46

I haven’t updated in a few weeks so:

SW: 22st 11.8lbs
CW: 19st 11.2lbs
GW: 14st 10lbs (for now)

3.6lbs off for me this week, I’m really pleased to see the 19’s, over the years the 20’s has often been where I’ve settled so it’s great to start with a 19. 2 more pounds gets my BMI under 40 so I can’t wait for that. I’m going out this weekend for the first time in ages, and I’m really excited to decide what to wear, it feels like it’s been years since I last got excited to choose an outfit!

I wanted to reply to posts but I'm on the app and I've not quite worked out how to reply to one without skipping to the end -such a technophobe it's ridiculous. Maybe I should write notes on paper to mention people in one post at the end.

Anyhoo, thank you for all the help regarding supplements. I ended up on the Nutrition Geeks website and used their welcome code to order. I've read up on what the different supplements do so will attempt trial and error to see what helps me feel better.

My weight hadn't moved this week (about 3\4 days) when it usually moves at least every other day and my stomach is swollen and sore. Pooped this morning and lost 2lbs lol. Stomach still sore but not as swollen. I've had stomach issues all my life so don't touch laxatives as usually I'm medicated to slow my system (I've stopped all these meds while on MJ). Sorry if tmi but think even though there's been small amounts of the runs that I'm actually blocked up somewhere in there (or was before this morning). I also upped my water again yesterday as I'd been struggling to swallow anything with my cold.

I've had 4 shots of 2.5mg so far and down 16lbs.

I'm hoping to use the extra bit this Sunday for my 5th dose. Just need to work out how much that will actually be.

Sorry to hear about your dad. Hopefully he’ll make a good recovery 🤞

I’m going through health issues with my brother at the moment and the absolute best thing you can do is be kind to yourself. Your body will thank you for it. During one of my brothers episodes I didn’t eat anything for more than 24 hours and my body punished me for it. Look after yourself 🙂

guestusername · 05/09/2024 13:56

My daily weigh made me smile today. 12.3.4. I should have taken a pic but my tired brain didn’t think to do it 😂 Official weigh isn’t until Saturday

Ifyounevergiveup · 05/09/2024 17:01

@pinktransit I think they’re all great suggestions for food! And yours is too. In my marathon near two day A&E session with my own dad (he was fine, fingers crossed yours will be too) protein bars really were my friend. Much better than caving in and eating the hospital shop! Big hugs and take care of yourself.

I've been following a few of the Mounjaro threads and have been loving seeing everyone's experiences and encouragement. I'm very new to Mumsnet but it's so nice to find somewhere to talk about this new journey. Hopefully people won't mind if I join in.

I started MJ at the end of July and have lost 18.5lb so far. I've stayed on the 2.5 but I'm intrigued by spacing out of doses to do 2.5 twice weekly. I have told my sister but that's it and have been feeling quite alone with the process.

Good luck to everyone starting soon, I haven't seen anyone online who's regretted it, myself included.

I'm another secret jabber! I have some friends I know will be judgemental so am just not giving anyone the chance, besides which, it is none of their business.

I watched the Oprah programme about GLP1s a while ago and was struck when she said she always thought everyone had the same food noise and cravings but other people were just more strong-willed or better than she was. She said when she used semaglutide she had a moment when she refused a treat and thought "This is what it is like to be normal" and suddenly realised that she had not been weaker but had been different all along.
I suspect we have all had those moments, I had one yesterday. Out for lunch with friends and I refused my normal option for a healthier one which I really fancied and thoroughly enjoyed. Normally I'd have asked for a side of chips just in case it wasn't enough and I was still hungry but they didn't appeal. I'm with Oprah - THIS IS WHAT IT IS LIKE TO BE NORMAL!!!

Welcome @LucyBnotG you’ll never feel alone on this thread - it’s so supportive and friendly ☺️ there’s a wealth of knowledge, especially from the folks who were the Mumsnet pioneers!

I HATE when people say iterations of not being strong enough willed, or don't you think slim people aren't just working EXTRA HARD to stay slim.

I don't doubt that they make some active healthy dietary choices but it basically contradicts that obesity is a disease. It is a disease and many professionals within the weight loss field have been fighting for this to be recognised for years. Once you've got a disease you need treatment, you can't just strong will yourself better if your liver starts failing so why would obesity be any different? When people do self manage this disease through diet and exercise it's usually mismanaged and leads to other unhealthy choices or yoyo dieting, or swapping one addiction for another.

I have genuinely never felt full in my life before starting tirzepatide without being absolutely bursting at the seams and when i am hungry the hunger pangs get so painful I get nauseaous and I am fixated on food. I cannot get anything done until I eat but then I cant moderate how much is the right amount because ive never been able to trust my body to tell me when it's had enough. I really doubt that someone slim experiences constant nausea. It's been a problem for me since puberty.

I mentioned feeling like this on another thread and someone called me out and said they'd never heard of it feeling like that, and that just cemented it in for me that slim people DO NOT suffer from declining food the way I have, and I've felt less self shame by acknowledging this is a disease that needs treatment than I have any other period in my life where JustTryHarder(TM) has failed every single time.

@Jimmyneutronsforehead hear hear, beautifully put.

Pinkyp22 · 05/09/2024 19:06

I have a question

How much are people realistically getting out of thier bonus dose?
I just went to do my bonus 5mg dose, i barely got 0.5ml and once I'd faffed about I lost a teeny bit more so was a fair bit less than 0.5ml
I am going up to 7.5mg so discarded the 0.5ml because I need a full dose 😐😐 expensive waste 😣
How are people getting more than 0.6?
I confess I don't even prime the pen before use so you'd think I would have a lot more?

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 05/09/2024 19:22

@QueenOfHiraeth I was nodding along as I read that and felt quite emotional!

I was thinking about it earlier. I have always been 'chunky', pretty much since puberty and with a mother who sees thin as morally superior, life has not always been easy.

I wonder how much of ME is because of how I have always felt like a failure, like I couldn't do something as simple as be slim. I am intelligent, well educated, successful but have always had some sense of a lack of value because of my size.

Society can be very unkind to many of us!

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 05/09/2024 19:31

Oh, and what @Jimmyneutronsforehead said too!

SecondFavouriteDinosaur · 05/09/2024 19:33

Hi all, I am still hovering within 1lb of a healthy BMI which is really really frustrating 😩, but I’ll get there! On the plus side I have lost 2 bra sizes (this is a good thing) and have just tried on a size 12 dress that I bought for an event next week and I actually felt good in it!

SammySays · 05/09/2024 19:58

Hi everyone, I am around 4 weeks in and really happy so far. As it’s so expensive, has anyone used a 10mg pen for example for 5mg dosage thereby getting 8 injections out of one pen? Halving the cost of each dose would help me financially but I do know that you aren’t ‘meant’ to use a started pen after 30 days. Has anyone tried this and what is your experience please? I keep my pen in the fridge constantly even after first use if that’s relevant at all.

I’m sure this has probably already been asked but as 20 threads are full I hope you’ll forgive me for not reading them all! 😀

Nobody will prescribe it to you to jump from a small dose to a higher one, you have to prove you were on the one before or that dose I.e. 7.5 or 10

QueenOfHiraeth · 05/09/2024 20:17

@Jimmyneutronsforehead I agree with you and I think that's exactly what Oprah was saying and why it resonated with me. There is new evidence too of different brain activity relating to food in the overweight
I remember once when I was hungry/hangry and my son, a teenager at the time, made a thoughtless comment about how I couldn't deal with any discomfort and me being absolutely infuriated that he didn't understand how bad I felt.
I think this is one of the big things about MJ, that it is teaching us and those who work in the obesity field that we are different, not just overindulging. I could have cried when I read Why We Eat by Andrew Wakefield and he described how he realised his bariatric patients suffered from hormone imbalances and insensitivities which caused their obesity

Yes I realise that 🙂my next dose would theoretically be the 5mg pen as I have just injected my 4th dose on 2.5mg. If I choose to stay on 2.5mg for longer, I could theoretically get 8 doses out of that pen. That is what I am asking. Has anyone else done this and what is their experience?

NeedSomeAnswersPlease · 05/09/2024 21:09

@SammySays you're not meant to do that, it can only last 30 days after being opened

SilenceInside · 05/09/2024 21:14

The issue with going past the 30 days, especially by 2, 3 or 4 weeks is that you don't know how much the active ingredients might have degraded and lost effectiveness. You are also increasing the risks of contamination by allowing a longer time for bacterial growth if any contamination occurs. If the manufacturers were able to show that the medicine was effective and safe for 60 days, then that would be the guideline.

@Pinkyp22 hello lovely. I guess it’s the usual answer; it all depends! There will be slight differences between pen contents, some people will (not deliberately) not inject the entirety of their dose, etc. I got a generous dose out of my 5mg pen but bang on 0.6 from my 2.5 pen. (I only primed my second pen once rather than before every injection with my first, so there’s something else which will differ). In your shoes next time I’d get out as much as I could then if necessary I’d top up to 0.6 by counting clicks. But as I’ve observed before, it’s in the Yorkshire genes to be…spending averse?!
