I’m a lurker, but need some advice. Been doing this since April, spent 3 months (June July and August) on 7.5 as it worked perfectly and I was losing steadily, but this week I’ve taken my first 10mg dose and I’m really regretting it. I have had morning nausea for all levels, but since taking my first 10mg on Monday afternoon I’ve been nauseous none stop and last night spent the night vomiting. I hadn’t eaten that much yesterday because of the nausea (1 slice of wholemeal toast with peanut butter for breakfast, v small bowl of mushroom and lentil soup for lunch and some prawns and tomatoes late afternoon). I couldn’t face anything else later.
i think I should go back down to 7.5, afterall it was working (losing 1-2lbs every week). I’m not sure what possessed me to move up. (Well, I think I wanted to speed things up a little as I have a big event end of October that I’m aiming for.

any advice? Thanks so much. I really appreciate these threads even though I don’t always take part 😊

Hey,

All I can suggest is ride it out. It will wear off eventually. Until then it's a waiting game unfortunately! I agree that you should go back down to 7.5mg. I think a lot of people struggle on 10mg when they first go there.

If you were feeling like 7.5 wasn't working anymore, perhaps take like 8.75mg from the 10mg pen and build up gradually.

I also had a bad reaction when I went up to 10mg. I went back down and then titrated up slowly until I was able to tolerate 10mg.

Have just taken 8th dose and am down 13 kilos. Delighted. Have elected to stay on 5mg next time, which I may regret, With hindsight, it would've been smarter to move to 7.5, and count clicks to 5, but with the option to move up if needed, as I am feeling noticeably hungrier. Still managed to a lose a kilo on holiday though, but was pretty disciplined. Hoping that perhaps still needing to work a bit at this may prepare me in the long term?

In terms of health issues I have developed raised cholesterol and am suffering with mild UTI symptoms and am wondering whether both are linked to the amount of sudden fat loss (imagine in the case of the UTI symptoms that my oestrogen levels will have dropped?)?

I have ADHD but am not able to take ADHD medication - I understand there is an unmedicated ADHD/obesity link. As a PP says, having a normal relationship with food is such a game changer.

Same! It's actually quite nice to be able to wear warm clothes without sweating.

I've got quite into crochet this year, and my mum said you'll never wear what you make you don't do knitwear.

Anyway now I need to plan my winter boleros and cardigans and dare I even say leg warmers 🤭

I did make myself this really beautiful top that I spent days making, and now it doesn't fit me anymore which is a win but also quite sad. I'm going to see if I can amend the back panel some how, and make like bust-corset for the front where I'm spilling out but I know and hope that even that would be a temporary fix because I am losing more weight.

The benefit of having lost weight is that it will take less time, yarn and money to make things that fit me once I'm at my goal weight and that's a big motivator.

Hello, lurker and occasional MN poster. I began MJ in April. 50/50 on my reasons; for many years my blood sugar tests showed high blood sugar and my doctor kept telling me to get it down. I did "The Blood Sugar Diet" by Dr Hyman and that bought it down, but the diet is totally unsustainable and eventually it went back up. I was very scared of ending up with diabetes.

Second reason to lose some weight. I'm post menopausal. The methods I used to use no longer worked, no matter how hard I tried. I tried calorie counting, keto and intermittent fasting. The weight slowly crept up and up no matter what I did, it was extremely upsetting and I felt like a fat failure.

I am a surfer so exercise is pretty excessive really, no problems there. I've surfed 20+ years, I'll be out for up to 3 hours in decent sized waves, that's a huge energy expense. When the waves come I'll surf every day. On average 3-4 times per week.

MJ has been a total game changer. Blood sugar normal. I suspect even some inflammation has reduced (easier feeling in joints and body overall). My husband says my moods are more even. Alcohol intake is WAY down which is great.

Weight loss is very easy, but I'm keeping it slow and steady for long term sustainability. I cook most meals at home focussing on protein and vegetables, which I love. For the longest time I've eaten very little sugar and processed food due to the blood sugar issues, my diet is pretty darn healthy tbh.

The only negative side effect so far is indigestion, but I've always suffered from that. It is worse, but antacid sorts it out.

My husband knows and is very supportive. I've only told one other person. I don't consider it anyone's business what medication I take to optimise my health.

So far in 19 weeks I've lost 11.7 pounds. Calculates to 0.6 pounds per week which I think is pretty slow and steady. It's faster when the waves are good and I surf more.

Thanks @Slimstar13 Sounds like I should try and persevere with 10. I'll see how I'm feeling Sunday before deciding whether to take a lower dose. My worry is that I want to get into a sustainable way of eating for when I stop mj and this week has not been that!

I would see how you feel in a few days. I have barely had any side effects and am now on 15mg but the week I felt the worst was my first week on 10mg. I was very suppressed and fatigued and I think the lack of eating made me slightly nauseous. Week 2 on 10mg was better.

Also how many pounds do you have to lose to get to goal? It's good you are aware that you need to learn sustainable eating habits but if you are months away from goal you have time to learn them. I am 6lbs from a healthy BMI now and plan to go to say BMI of 23 and then titrate down so I think I will still be on it at some strength for another 3-6 months. That's when I will be really focusing on good habits. Right now I try to practice healthy eating and will power on days 5-7 and focus on getting enough protein on days 2-4.

@Jimmyneutronsforehead I've just started crocheting myself a cardigan and have gone for a smaller size to what I need now in the hope I fit into it soon.

Blimey. I ordered my next (and hopefully final!) pen from MedExpress at 9.30 and I’ve just had a dispatch email. I think that’s got to be the fastest I’ve had yet!

BreathingDeep · 06/09/2024 13:18

You are all doing so wonderfully, well done. I'm toying with it and can't help but be a little wary... and I know I'd be a secret jabber! I have some big milestones coming up in the next few weeks, is it worth starting now or holding off until I have a clear run of relative quiet? Any advice would be gratefully received...

Not everyone gets side effects. Not everyone gets the same side effects. Maybe try and time your injections to around 4/5 days before your big events so that your suppression isn’t so obvious? I deliberately drive to gatherings now so that no one questions why I’m not drinking.

I guess a question you’d have to ask yourself, and answer honestly, is whether you want to start your weight loss now and get ahead of the game or whether you want to wait until your events are over. With a bit of planning, you can work MJ around your events. Whatever you decide to do, good luck 🙂

Pinkbendyman · 06/09/2024 13:44

I emailed Lilly asking about the expiry date on the 15mg pen. It hasn’t been extended and should therefore be used by 31/10/24

The batch number is on their reply.

if you have had this dose how did you find it? Did you have any side effects?

Everyone's reaction is so different it's not going to have any bearing on what it's like for YOU. I have had no adverse side effect at all and am on 15mg. Some people are unable to go higher than 2.5mg.

Just try and relax and see what happens for you.

MamaBearH · 06/09/2024 14:42

Here's a question I have googled till I can google no more. Still no clue so hoping someone here has an idea. How do you work out what dose you have at the end of the pen? So this Sunday I'll be extracting what's left of my 2.5mg pen but how do I know what it equals if it's 0.7 or 0.8ml etc? I'm assuming it wouldn't be 2.5mg if more than 0.6ml.
My next question is because I ordered an extra 2.5mg pen thinking I could stay on it but I've spent 3 weeks feeling super hungry again so I want to either use it to go up to 3.75 (how??) or double jab for 5mg. I'm tempted to use the extra 2.5 pen to make the 3.75 dose instead so I don't get slammed with side effects. I just don't know what's best but that will be a decision only I can make, just not sure how to get 3.75 out of a 2.5 pen.
I hope you can follow my ramblings lol.

What are your events? If something busy like a wedding or a big birthday party etc then people will probably be too busy to notice you eating less.
What are your worries about starting? Maybe list them to yourself along with why you want to start MJ and see how you feel.
Everyone has a different experience but from what I can see the majority of people are happy to have begun. Good luck with your journey, what ever that may be.

I'm not going to do the maths for you as I'm not great at it but this table should help you work out doses, according to pen strength and ml or clicks - you'll need a syringe to measure ml accurately for the 5th dose:

Sorry, the table doesn't show up when I attach it. I'll try pm it to you instead 😏

Med Express sent me a note with a 5mg pen saying that the expiry date had been extended when it hadn't (I checked with EL). I complained about it and received an apology and a £20 credit on my account. It's worrying that this is still happening with suppliers though, some people will take it at face value and use expired pens.

Hi all, this is my first ever post! Ive been a long term stalker since I started my Mounjaro journey back in April. These threads have helped me massively and thank you to everyone who’s contributed so far. The question I’ve come on to ask is, has anyone been on a holiday for two weeks and not taken the jab in that time then started back at 2.5(which is what they tell us to do when it’s a two week break) the problem I’m having is since doing that, the jab is having zero effect whatsoever! I’m now up to 3.75 and again nothing. I was previously having nausea with each injection even at 2.5 then I moved to 5 and again nausea and major appetite suppression on both dose amounts. I guess I was classed as a super responder but now nothing! Has anyone else had this and if so did it ever start working for you again after having the break? I’ve got half a pen to go before starting my next pen but feel I’m now wasting my money if it’s not doing what it should. I’m feeling so frustrated 😩 xx
