My female manager mentioned that I had lost weight yesterday. Justin passing so no questions asked or discussions about my methods. But we have work drinks next week so she might ask then. I am thinking I don't want to tell her about Mounjaro in case she tells other colleagues. I really like my manager but she has been at the company for decades and knows everybody.

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 05/09/2024 07:44

@Choux treat it like you would any other medication about a medical condition.

You don't have to tell her anything at all.

Just simply say you've made a few lifestyle changes. It's nobodies business but yours and you should only have to share it if you feel comfortable.

If you did feel comfortable to share it with your manager though and she did pass it on that would be a breach of data protection surely?

I've been really open with friends and my immediate family but won't tell my wider circle/work mates as I don't think it's any of their business. Just a simple "I'm eating better and moving more"

Ifyounevergiveup · 05/09/2024 08:15

@Jimmyneutronsforehead you’re living an exciting life at the moment! Laughed at the unsurprisingly unwell bit! Have a lovely breakfast afternoon tea and celebrate your new floor!

SilverHeels · 05/09/2024 08:23

@Choux I am a secret MJ user and have told no one. My MJ is hidden under the onions in my fridge vegetable drawer.

I am 43lb down since April (37 since I MJ on 21st May) and have told people that I have been eating less calories as that is true.

It’s no one’s business and most people are easily moved on to talking about themselves. Some people have never commented on my weight loss but others have been very vocal with ‘you have lost loads’ ‘you are really skinny don’t lose any more ‘ ‘ you are looking really good ‘ etc etc and I think the comments say more about them mostly and their issues with weight. I still have almost a stone to go to get a a healthy BMI so I always wonder where the comments about not losing any more come from.

KrankyKumquat · 05/09/2024 08:32

@SilverHeels
Not sure if I said it here or on another thread, but I got my first comment this week (3stone down). A neighbour said I looked very 'narrow'! Granted, that's better than 'wide' but doesn't exactly set the pulses racing does it?

SilverHeels · 05/09/2024 08:37

@KrankyKumquat narrow that’s a new one 😂.

I think that people have just got used to me being wide (not narrow) hence the skinny comments when I am still BMI 28 so not at all skinny. I am short so don’t even ‘carry my weight well’

We should set up a weight loss comment bingo.

WorriedRelative · 05/09/2024 08:42

Placemarking with a brief update.

Started week 5 on Monday, did the hard twist for the bonus dose and reckon I got about 3mg maybe 3.25mg. Not noticed much difference to 2.5mg. Have the 5mg pen ready for next week.

So far I am 4.4kg down, not as much as some but I'm not being too strict so I am happy with my progress

Checking in as I’ve not posted for a while, week 16 and I’m down 33lb/2st 5lb which I’m over the moon with. I’ve only got 8lb to get to healthy BMI and the last half a stone has come off sooooo slowly. Up and down and it’s been frustrating at times but losing 2st in the first 2 months was obviously quicker that my body could adjust I feel and it’s been taking its sweet time to get past this set point.

The best thing about mj for me is that it has taken away the “fuck it” I’ve blown it all may as well dive head first into junk feeling and I’ve just been plodding along and eventually the scales move.

I’m on my second 7.5mg pen and am going to have to stretch my doses out as I can’t afford another one straight away. I don’t feel like this will be too tricky as I still have good suppression and no real side effects. I plan to get one more pen, probably a 10mg and use that to titrate slowly down.

DragonflyRuby · 05/09/2024 08:49

Oh and I wanted to ask has anyone exercised excessive/easy bruising on MJ? My arms, legs and back are covered and I’m not sure if it’s a side effect of the MJ or maybe low iron or something similar. I have had phases of easy bruising in the past so thinking it’s probably not connected but wondered about others experience?

Swissrollover · 05/09/2024 08:58

MelainesLaugh · 04/09/2024 19:59

Does anyone use Pharmulous? Their prices look quite good so debating changing over. I was going to go to med express but they seem to have their eye off the ball atm

I've used Pharmulous 3 times. Very happy with them. They process and despatch quickly via Royal Mail. The still cold pen comes individually wrapped so it doesn't get wet or damaged by the large ice pack.

They use a special wool insulated puffin bag instead of a box, and I get 6 needles plus swabs.

The only minor snag was that I didn't receive the link for the initial online ID check. If you don't receive it by email, they can WhatsApp it too. Thankfully they called me to query and once I completed it, they despatched immediately and I received my pen the next day.

SilverHeels · 05/09/2024 09:44

@Slimstar13 That really resonated with me . I used to ‘treat myself’ to wine and unhealthy food as I deserved it - or that’s what my inner voice told me.
Now I am ‘treating myself’ to better health and good self esteem.

katinthehattt · 05/09/2024 09:57

Morning all! Thanks @Jimmyneutronsforehead for the new thread.

Quick check in:
5th dose last Sunday, total weight lost 16lbs. Feeling really good and finding wine (my nemesis) much easier to resist.

On the telling people thing - I was at a 'back to school' social last night with other school Mums. One Mum has been on semaglutide for a while and has lost a lot of weight, and very open about it. I mentioned how lovely she is looking and another Mum got very judgy about it afterwards, saying that she didn't agree with her using weight loss drugs yadda yadda. As though it was any business of hers anyway. It just cemented my belief that this choice and this journey is best kept to myself, largely because I don't have a terribly thick skin and I don't want to have to deal with other people's opinions.

Doobi · 05/09/2024 10:03

Morning,

I had a bit of a rough night Tuesday night with sickness/diarrhoea and sulphur burps 😷 - first time I've experienced this/these side effects since starting Mounjaro.

However I've put it down to the fact that what we had for tea was very greasy/oily as even off MJ, when I've had McDonald's it goes straight through me.

Since then, I've been absolutely fine and all symptoms went away.

My weight is now down to 124kg.. so a 5.9kg loss since 22nd August. It feels weird to be honest.

I find I'm being more mindful of what I am eating and getting fuller quicker. It's not fully suppressing my appetite like some, but I'm eating little but often. It seems to be working out okay.

I just need to up my water intake, fibre and protein so I am feeling fuller for longer.

I've also bought some vitamins to start taking as I've previously been deficient in Vitamin D, folate, iron etc.

I'd like to start trying for a baby next year so my plan is to kick start this weight loss with MJ and see how I get on. The more I lose the better before I TTC..

I hope I can use this MJ as a tool initially then when I come off, I will still continue to do what I am doing now. I am also going to look into some reading around binge eating as that's predominantly what I do, I need to re-train my brain and practice good habits.

At the same time I will be coming off my normal medications, one of which is an antipsychotic and made me gain like 25-30kg. The cravings can be unreal on this, so in some ways the MJ is helping counteract these side effects.

In an ideal world, I'd of liked to lose 20kg by the end of this year although that's being optimistic.

One can hope and work towards this though.

Usually jab day and weigh day for me on a Thursday. Jab is done, but no scales for me to weigh in on.
My dad had a massive stroke on Sunday, so I'm staying with Mum and no scales. Being reasonably good foodwise, but it's a difficult time so I'm not going to beat myself up if I'm not logging what I'm eating, or making the choices that I would if I were at home. Mum normally makes very healthy options, but last night was egg and chip shop chips. We were at the hospital nearly all day, so it was a quick and easy choice (and delicious!).
I don't want to go too far off track though, so may have to buy some scales to have delivered here.
Protein bars are going to be my friend this week I think.

SilenceInside · 05/09/2024 11:22

Sorry to hear about your Dad, @pinktransit , it must be a very stressful time for you and your Mum at the moment.

Maybe you could get some decent frozen ready meals in so you don't have to cook or think about food prep?

Frozen ready meals would definitely come under the UPF heading, and also Mum is mostly vegan (occasional egg, butter rather then vegan spread after reading about UPFs), so ready meals are limited. There will be a lot of frozen soups etc in the freezer, masses of veg from the garden, so some quick wins there. Just not the chicken/prawn salad that I would usually have. There are plenty of supermarkets on the way to and from the hospital, so we can pick up anything that we don't have.

MabelSpan · 05/09/2024 11:40

So sorry to hear about your Father @pinktransit 🤗

SilenceInside · 05/09/2024 11:41

I meant things like the Cook food meals that don't have additives and have normal ingredients but I can see that it wasn't a useful comment, sorry.

I hadn't thought of the Cook type, so that is a useful comment, thank you 😀. I was thinking more of typical supermarket type things. I will have a look, we're managing now, but Mum is getting tired with daily visits so good back ups will be useful.

3wDavid · 05/09/2024 12:29

oh la la! Some amazing losses!!! Congrats to all! To those who feel they’re going slower than others - slow and steady is perfect, you don’t need it to go any quicker and any loss is a loss!!

NSV from me, I am still on my annual big family holiday. I hadn’t seen my family since May and DH’s family since last summer, and 4 different family members have commented how much weight I’ve lost and that I look good and what’s the secret 🤫 I don’t have an issue sharing I’m on MJ, but don’t feel comfortable sharing it with the family, so just said “oh you know, lifestyle changes” (which is not not true), but still felt very cheeky not saying anything more.

frozen ready meals are often far more healthy than chilled because the freezing is the preservative. I agree, I love Cook!
