Worth noting as I've seen it mentioned a lot here , but for anyone with PCOS be cautious of Ashgadwada as it may actually increase / stimulate androgen production aka testosterone. I often see it being mentioned for pcos symptoms but I personally wouldn't take the risk which is disappointing as everything else about it sounds great, but I really dont need any more testosterone causing me havoc 🙄

I didn't know that! I really don't need any more testosterone in my system either. I'm done having kids but the PCOS still has its issues. Can I ask where you can find out more about the links?

@Louboo3 yes, the 15mg pen I received from Zava last week has a 10/24 expiry date on it. I should just about use it up in time, luckily.

The pharmacy companies should really be more transparent about the short expiry dates on the 12.5mg and 15mg pens before they send them out.

Are these any of the pens with the new use by dates by any chance? Mine arrived with 1 date on the box but a separate piece of paper saying it was extended.

More MedExpress drama! I heard back after complaining about it not being shipped and then being given the wrong tracking info. They apologised and gave me the correct tracking info which says that Royal Mail still haven't received it. I'll be very surprised if it turns up cold. What on earth is going on at MedExpress?!

I just did some research on it some time ago when I first heard about Ashwagandha. There is a lot of information on the Internet
Sorry I dont know how to post links, ill copy and paste from an article I read.
Not enough evidence to say it does or doesn't but my theory is, if it raises testosterone in men, i've got far too much of it having pcos so I wouldn't risk anything raising it any more. I have spent thousands on laser hair removal to get rid of a full beard..... and will have to continue to top it up evedy 6 months forever 😩there is no way Ill risk taking it in fear of making that grow back 😒

Testosterone Levels
Androgens, like testosterone, are often elevated in those with PCOS. High testosterone can contribute to common PCOS symptoms such as unwanted hair growth, hair loss, acne, and irregular menstrual cycles.
Studies have shown ashwagandha can increase testosterone levels in men. While the theory hasn’t been tested in women, especially not in women with PCOS, it’s suspected that ashwagandha may increase testosterone levels in women also.
If your testosterone levels are elevated, it may be best to avoid ashwagandha.

@Pinkbendyman hurrah! Hurrah! Well done, that’s superb!

NeedSomeAnswersPlease · 04/09/2024 17:27

Waiting to hear back from Zava for my 5mg pen - switched as I liked their cold packaging but not a fan of the lack of communication! I accidentally sent a message without my photos last night, and then straight away sent my photos - I've only had an email to say my photos weren't sent, so I sent them again this morning and I've not heard anything. Order shows as "processing" but I would've liked a confirmation that they'd had the pictures

If it’s any consolation at all, I find the RM tracking page updates with a delay. For me it says “we’re expecting it” up until the delivery. It’s very annoying.

I went back to school yesterday and lots of people noticed and commented discreetly, which was lovely.

@MamaBearH I am a fellow coeliac, only diagnosed 5 years ago after having no previous gut issues.

NippyCrab · 04/09/2024 18:00

I've missed which poster has asked about CFS, I also have it along with Fibromyalgia and whatever else my body wants to chuck at me. I've definitely found my fatigue isn't as bad when I've not paced very well. Also my brain fog isn't a daily occurrence. The changes are slight, but I notice it because i feel shite most days. However it could be coincidence as I've also changed HRT again and I'm eating totally clean since I started MJ on 5th August. Xx

JamieFrasersSassenach · 04/09/2024 18:23

I have little to no knowledge of coeliac disease so unfortunately cannot contribute to the discussion.

I wanted to know if anyone else has found going up from 2.5mg to 5mg has seemed to reverse the effects?

I was getting amazing appetite suppression and feeling full for longer with the 2.5mg. I took my fist 5mg on Monday night and honestly it may has well have been water I injected as I feel hungrier now than I have since starting.

I'm hoping someone will be able to reassure me that it will kick in soon!!

MelainesLaugh · 04/09/2024 18:40

Took the third 2.5mg dose earlier. I’ve been feeling so good, and my IBS symptoms have been superb. Then this evening they are back. Could be a coincidence though.

Ive had the right hand side pain too. I was even considering last night whether to go and get colonic irrigation as I wondered if I was constipated. But that’s definitely not the case now.

Another fibro and CFS sufferer here. Currently looking for a better way to have a boost than Monster Energy as I hadn’t realised what horrific calories they have.

Ifyounevergiveup · 04/09/2024 19:39

@MelainesLaugh well, hold that thought, only because a lot of people (including me) have experienced climbing pulse rates as Mj settles in. My resting heart rate was 56 and sometimes it now tops 70! So if a higher pulse rate is what gives you energy (and that’s what the energy drinks do, of course ) you might want to hold off and see whether it’s another thing which Mj sorts out all by itself.

@JamieFrasersSassenach ooh, I feel for you. I had the same experience; although frankly 2.5mg didn’t have much of an effect for me, what little it did do wasn’t matched by 5mg. Not at all. So now I’m starting 7.5mg tomorrow and I can offer you a glimmer of hope; my bonus dose on 5mg (which was pretty generous) has pretty much given me appetite suppression all week, and that’s the first time I’ve experienced it. So hang on in there.

I’m having the same on 5mg. No suppression, no weight loss. Also no side effects.

I do get fuller with less food which is the only sign that I didn’t inject a placebo. I’m into my 3rd week at 5mg and I’m having to use my (non-existent) will power to control hunger and the urge to snack/graze.

MelainesLaugh · 04/09/2024 19:59

Does anyone use Pharmulous? Their prices look quite good so debating changing over. I was going to go to med express but they seem to have their eye off the ball atm

TheRoseShaker · 04/09/2024 20:18

Thanks for the info on the Ash-what's-it-called... maybe I'll just slip them to my husband! 🤣

There you all are! Thanks very much for keeping the thread fires burning @Jimmyneutronsforehead!

@Pinkbendyman that is sensational, well done! You must be over the moon - it comes through in your post which is joyful to see, and you have so earned it!

Just back from 3 wks away, no scales, hot place. My aim was to stick largely to the eating plan of 3x protein + fruit/veg meals in half portions, but chilling out regarding cocktails and wine in moderation plus the odd ice-cream. I hoped to stall or gain a couple of kg, to lose over the next couple of weeks.

Well blow me down if I didn't weigh in yesterday with a 2.5 kg loss! It can be done, lovely MJ people. You can have a fabulous holiday with good food and treats, lots of walking and swimming, not feel deprived, and not destroy months of work in the process!

I'm so delighted and it gives me a bit of confidence that by the maintenance time I'll be able to at least attempt moderation... maybe!

I didn’t receive any info that the expiry date had been extended, no.

I remember this happening a while back with lower dose pens, 2.5mg and 5mg, I think.

Hopefully someone can come along and help us? Or can this info be found on the Lilly website?

Pinkbendyman · 04/09/2024 21:11

I’m so glad that you enjoyed your holiday @DesparatePragmatist and lost all that weight too at the same time!

It’s great that we can still enjoy birthdays and holidays and celebrations without depriving ourselves. Kind of makes me want a mojito at the weekend now!

QueenOfHiraeth · 04/09/2024 21:11

@MamaBearH There is no one test a GP can do to say what supplements you need. They can test for various things like Vit D or B12 deficiency but not an overall one global test
I would hope your GP would run a blood test as you are coeliac, maybe annually, to check the basics and I would not recommend the private tests as I have heard they are not very reliable
I think a good independent health store is your best bet for advice (avoid places like Holland & Barrett, my experience is they are not very well trained). The NHS recommends everyone should take a Vit D supplement but beyond that it is personal choice.
Personally I take a Centrum multivitamin, vit D, B12 and probiotic with breakfast and K2 and fish oil each evening. I then add extras if and when I feel I need them (like Vit C if there's colds about, turmeric if I'm achey, Magnesium if not sleeping). It sounds like a lot but it works for me

Ifyounevergiveup · 04/09/2024 21:44

@DesparatePragmatist Whoo HOO! That’s just FABULOUS! Welcome back and bloody well done’

Good morning,

Just checking in to the new thread. Took my third 5mg dose last night, no side effects this morning which is good. Weigh day is Friday for me, and I'm feeling positive. My goal weight is so very nearly in sight!

Wow well done!🎉

That was a very sensible approach to eating. 2.5kg is a huge loss!

Just weighed. I'm down to 102.40 so that's a drop from 102.95 which is my new floor. It's a small loss but it's happened faster than my last loss.

I ate like crap yesterday too so I wasn't expecting good results this morning. I must not have eaten as bad as I had thought.

I had no food noise all day, then I had a traumatic phone call with the DWP assessments team, then my friend and I decided to get some post-call whiskey in which I didn't realise was breakfast for me, then I had an iced bun and a bag of crisps, felt a bit unwell (not surprising on reflection), so came home and got in bed. 😳

Today I've been invited for a posh afternoon tea, but at 10am in the morning. This will be interesting.
