@ACEwards My mood definitely dips on MJ. It only seems to last for a day or so but it's pretty much every week within 48 hours of injecting. Suddenly I'm so so depressed but then the next day I'm back to normal. I've struggled with depression in the past so it's very unsettling. I'm learning to just sit tight and hope my mood lifts and so far each time it has. Not a nice experience though.

MzHz · 15/10/2024 17:23

@ACEwards are you a woman of a certain age 🤣. (Like me?) or are you approaching peri menopause?

anxiety is a HUGE thing with our changes in hormones. Might be worth getting that looked at if you’re in or around your 40s.

and yes, get out there! It’s a great head reset and if you can carve out some time for yourself maybe look at doing a class or something, start out gentle and take things at your own pace.

I used to be agoraphobic and it just gets a tighter grip of you if you allow it. But you do have control. Could you do something at the gym while DD is doing her thing?

this change is a big change for us, it’s hard to adjust

I'm almost 40 and the nurse did say to watch out for perimenopause when I had my coil change 😧 I'm definitely getting worse the older I get 🤣

@ACEwards would your dh be able to help you get out and about? I found getting my oh to come with me really helped.

To be fair to him he is really good with me and probably knows me better than my own family does x

It so hard to know what is MJ and what isn't. I'm going to be stopping MJ in the next week or so, so we will see what happens 🙈

I'm on my hols and struggling with eating healthier food. Eating out is always a challenge as nothing is that trimmed back as you have at home. Dreading scales.

Did you take your pen?

I did when I went away for 8 days last month. It helped

in just focused on water and protein

I did have chips once and I did drink wine - not huge amounts tho

i lost a kilo

you can do this 🙂

MzHz · 15/10/2024 21:21

Also @Wishthiswasntmypost

you’ve come so far already, even if you put on a little, you’re still way lighter than you were and being back on the wagon will shift it

have faith 🤣

DamnItBetsy · 16/10/2024 13:36

Just back from a few days away with DH. I haven’t told him about the MJ and it was such a struggle to appear to be eating ‘normally’. Took all joy out of the experience give restaurants we were in.

Does anyone else get horrendous headaches as a side effect? Weirdly I’ve been pretty much side effect free throughout, and even though I’ve been on 5mg for the last couple of months for the last three weeks for 36 after injection I’ve got a headache so bad that moving my head is excruciating.

Xiaoxiong · 16/10/2024 14:07

Well done to those losing! I had a small loss this morning on the scales so hopefully I'm back into losing. I've still got about 12kg to go to get to the middle of the healthy BMI range. If I stay at the "stalled" rate I've been at the last 4 weeks, that will take until mid-April!! So I'm hoping it starts coming off a bit faster again.

A comment about mood that I saw a few months ago from a journalist who took Ozempic - if your mood dips right after the jab and then comes back up it sounds like a kind of chemical or hormonal side effect (I used to get something like this while breastfeeding when my milk would let down, if anyone else remembers this). However, if you were previously emotionally eating and using food to deal with emotional issues before starting the jabs, then that coping mechanism is taken away and you have to figure out another (and healthier) way to cope, or you are left with the emotional issues without the coping.

There is some useful info here: https://www.mountsinai.org/health-library/special-topic/break-the-bonds-of-emotional-eating

On the note of mindful eating, I've started using a bite timer app to force me to slow down while eating - it's incredible how fast I was inhaling my food so no wonder it was taking my body time to catch up to feeling full (when I wasn't on MJ!) So I'm using this time on MJ to try and address that as well so I eat much more slowly and mindfully in future and feel full while there's still food left on my plate.

MzHz · 16/10/2024 15:39

That’s fascinating @Xiaoxiong ! Thanks for that!

I get bad tension headaches but they've definitely been worse and more frequent since starting MJ. They literally last about 5 days, then go for a day or two then come back again. It's agony 🤯

HundredMilesAnHour · 16/10/2024 15:58

Yes @DamnItBetsy I get headaches that won't shift (even when I resort to my migraine meds) for the first few days after each injection. It's happened literally every week and has only eased off 3 months in.

Mine are the same, no medication seems to touch them. DH commented it’s weird it’s been the same day two weeks in a row he’s noticed my awful headaches. I can’t explain away a weekly headache. Hopefully it won’t happen again. 😭

Xiaoxiong · 17/10/2024 09:50

@DamnItBetsy I assume you've not told your DH you're on MJ?

Sorry to all those who are having headaches - apparently up to 25% of people in ozempic trials reported headaches but the studies mostly concluded that was likely due to dehydration and/or low blood sugar.

Interestingly there is a systematic review of papers and studies exploring using GLP1 medications to treat migraine disorders - I understand about one word in three in the abstract, but it does say GLP-1 is involved in migraine and tension headache mechanisms. Here it is if anyone's more knowledgeable than me, the paper seems to say that the 42 studies included in the review indicated that GLP1 medications can have a beneficial effect on headaches and migraines: thejournalofheadacheandpain.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s10194-024-01821-3

Thanks for the info.

I don’t think it’s dehydration, well I hope not anyway. I’ve always been prone to headaches if dehydrated so make sure I drink 2 to 3 litres a day. I do find it hard when I’m MJ though as thirst seems to be affected as well as hunger.

Would low blood sugar be an immediate side effect of the jab? My headaches are only the 24/36hrs after taking it

No, DH doesn’t know I’m on MJ. He’d disapprove of “unnecessary” medication as well as the expense! (Its my own money I’m using though)

Today is my weigh in day, and after two weeks of suffering the debilitating headaches I’ve lost the grand total of. . . 0.8lbs in a fortnight! 😭

Xiaoxiong · 20/10/2024 11:11

Scales on the move again FINALLY - down 0.5kg this week for a total loss of 10.8kg since mid-July, continuing to average 0.83kg or 1.8lbs a week. Slow and steady wins the race...!

I can highly recommend as a fun weekend activity trying on all your clothes, especially those that you haven't been able to get into for a while. It kind of amazes me that even though i've lost more than 10kg, the variation in clothes sizes and stretchy/oversized things means I'm "still" the same size, but everything just fits much better and doesn't look like I'm stuffed into my clothes!

MzHz · 20/10/2024 15:12

Well done @Xiaoxiong !

I had a good run, but I think it’s stalled again, jab day today so should be on the move again soon I think.

I have tried on loads of clothes previously off the table and not only do they fit, some of them are in serious danger of being too loose.

i know!!

I’ve just bought a load of clothes from La Redoute as they’re like 50% off PLUS another 15 % off this weekend

all of them are in sizes I probably won’t fit now, but soon I will so I’ll have something to look forward to.

They are also a bit on the bright colours side, which may or may not shock the OH, but I’m done with black safe clothing! Let’s shine a little.

MzHz · 20/10/2024 15:24

I wonder with those who have supposedly unsupportive OH, when we’re funding this ourselves, for our own health and wellbeing, why would these men think they have a say in how we look after ourselves, or how we spend our own money?

what realistically could they do? Tell us they’re not happy? Surely they are not so fragile that they can’t hear the word “Tough!” They can’t ban us from spending our money on things we want to prioritise.

I was a bit nervous about telling my OH, it crossed my mind that he might be weird about it, no idea why. That of course could have been throwback to previous (abusive) relationship, and a general worry about reactions tho.

my DS initially said “you don’t need that” but I told him that hormones are working against me, that cravings and food noise is overwhelming and I was just getting bigger and bigger and it was out of control. He got it.

since starting, I’m down 14 kg and even DS said how good I was looking and he can see how much happier I am.

i had my first actual person notice I’d lost weight last week. 🥳 I’d not told anyone in the office, and went in for a meeting and one of the managers actually asked me!

I do feel a bit odd replying that I’m cutting calories and moving more… it’s the BS the naturally skinny tell us that this is all we need to do and we all know that it isn’t what works… oh well.

HundredMilesAnHour · 20/10/2024 15:33

Like @MzHz I had my first person (a man!) at work ask me if I'd lost weight this week. I wear a lot of loose dresses to work so it hides my fluctuating weight (especially as I'm tall) so it was nice for someone to notice.

ACEwards · 20/10/2024 15:37

I've lost almost 24lbs so far and pretty much at goal, but not one person has noticed 🤣 I would at least hoped one person might have noticed something was a little different... even I can see it and I'm my harshest critic lol. Oh well, we plough on 😂

Choux · 20/10/2024 16:02

I've lost 40lb and my BMI has gone from 31 to sub 25. Only one person has mentioned it to me.

Am sure others have noticed but either don't think it's any of their business to mention it or don't want to for fear of saying the wrong thing or because my weight loss makes them reflect on their own weight. I don't want my success to make anyone feel bad about themselves so I don't mention it at all either.

MyPearlMentor · 20/10/2024 16:33

Hey everyone, congratulations on the loss! I had to weigh a bit early this week due to travel & I am now just 0.8kg off my first goal (I have a stretch of another 3-4kg). I’ve gone from a size 16 to most of my 14s being a bit big, so super happy about that. @MzHz I think there will always sadly be men who like to criticize women and don’t allow them to do their own thing. I’m not saying “all men” by any means but they sadly exist. I am very lucky to have a large number of lovely gay male friends who love clothes and will always tell me I look great. @Choux and @ACEwards not sure if this is friends or family, but I would not comment on someone’s weight at work - male or female - unless they mentioned it first. I’d be worried to offend someone. What a great loss though, you have both done so well, you must feel amazing! 🥰

MzHz · 20/10/2024 16:41

I do think a lot of people either don’t notice anything about other people, or as @MyPearlMentor says, notices but doesn’t say anything
