5mg has acted like concrete in my bowels 😬 Drinking loads of water and started Laxido yesterday. Up in the night with abdo pain. Daytime sore arse from a tear whilst expelling some concrete (tmi sorry). I'm not even sure if I need to go anymore as I'm not eating enough to maybe have anything there but I feel full and generally sluggish.

Haven't got on scales as I'm too knackered to give a toss. However 19lbs lost in 4 weeks so I'm only moaning an incey wincey bit

Wishthiswasntmypost · 14/08/2024 17:45

Thank you for the thread Tori and thank you fellow MJers for encouragement

Yaaas me too! 😊

Sorry you're feeling rough @Wishthiswasntmypost 😥

This isn't a short term fix (it can take up to 3 months to feel the real benefit) but I think I've dodged all the gut side effects a lot of you seem to be having because I've been taking Symprove daily for the last few years. I don't want this to sound like a sales pitch for pro/prebiotics so won't say too much other than suggest you Google Symprove and see if you think it might work for you.

Before I got long Covid and got fat (because I can't exercise but I can comfort eat 😝), I used to be super-fit and take healthy eating very seriously. Symprove was recommended to me by a friend (who's a personal trainer as well as qualified nutritionist) as well as some high quality vitamins. I started taking it to improve my immunity as I had/have a super-stressful job and work long hours (and was still in the gym at 6am most days) so was constantly rundown. But Symprove has other benefits (it's amazing for gut health) and now on MJ I definitely think it's saved me from some of side effects. Of course that could be complete rubbish and I've just been lucky but putting the idea out there in case any of you want to consider it.

Wishthiswasntmypost · 14/08/2024 19:17

@hundredmilesanhour just reading up about it. What does it taste like? One researcher says 'foul' 😁 and then 'no pain, no gain'

gimmemounjaro · 14/08/2024 19:34

This is an episode of a podcast I listen to now and then, hosted by a Canadian doctor and obesity specialist. It's about side effects of these meds and strategies for minimising them, if anyone is interested. If the link doesn't work or you don't have Spotify it's called High on Life (dr's name is Sasha High) and it's ep 102.

Lots of other interesting eps also, about weight loss, nutrition, exercise, physiology and psychology, lots specific to women.

Ha, that made me laugh @Wishthiswasntmypost

I find it tastes ok as long as it's cold. I take mine every morning as soon as I get up so pour it straight from the fridge into my little measuring cup and 2 gulps and it's gone. I have the mango one. A friend has the strawberry (?) one and also finds that fine. I'm usually a real baby with these things and it's actually why I chose Symprove over VSL# (these are the only 2 recommended by UK GPs) as VSL# is a powder that you mix with water and I thought no way will I be able to get that down! It sounded too much like the old Beechams powders. 😂

@HundredMilesAnHour I have terrible IBS and looked at this but just couldn't justify the cost as it was about £50 a month, and now with MJ on top of that... my husband would kill me 😂

I have Biomel but take half the dose so it lasts longer. It's improved slightly and helps me poop, but it's not a miracle cure. Sometimes it's just easier to starve myself so that nothings in my stomach that gives me pain as annoyingly my IBS isn't caused by any particular food 🙄

@ACEwards I'll PM you a referral link that gets you 50% off your first 3 months with Symprove (so takes the cost down to £25/month) and you can cancel anytime. Just to be clear, I'm not doing it for the referral discount for me as I have enough referrals from the last few years to keep me going for a LONG time (which is why I'm not posting it openly just to be clear that I'm not 'touting'). The referral link is the cheapest way you can get Symprove but I appreciate that it may still be too expensive, especially on top of MJ.

ACEwards · 14/08/2024 19:56

@HundredMilesAnHour Amazing thank you!!

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 15/08/2024 07:49

Another 0.2 of a kilo lost.

That's fine. I can cope with
Teeny kisses as long as it's the right direction.

Away this weekend so that will Be Tricky But I'll try to stick to 1800
Cals. No more and hope not to put on any fat.

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 15/08/2024 08:36

Bad tummy this morning.
Hoping it will pass quickly

Wishthiswasntmypost · 15/08/2024 11:50

Well behaving bowels this morning and I slept all night so I'm a happy bunny.

I need more protein in my diet which as my suppression is very good at the moment will be a challenge. Yesterday I had usual protein yoghurt and fruit, rhubarb and oats (loaded down with rhubarb from the garden), tiny piece of barbecued pork and tiny bit of potato. They'd been cooked in oil and herbs so not as lean as it sounds. I doubt I reached 1000 cals with that but find it really hard to monitor cals on food without weighing everything.

I've only just remembered to eat breakfast. I assume MJ is releasing glucose stores into my bloodstream which is why I'm not flaking

ToriMJ · 15/08/2024 11:52

Struggling a bit this week.
Last few days having done gastro issues, namely feeling really trapped wind and uncomfortable, no urge to eat really. My fifth jab was due Tuesday but I've held off bevause I'm feeling naff.

Wishthiswasntmypost · 15/08/2024 12:02

I can't remember if I've already said this but I looked up my weight records on MyFitnessPal. For years I maintained a steady weight (just under goal weight) without any effort, eating exactly what I liked. I was plotting because I'd put on weight after 3 children and just couldnt shift it. Then I had a hysterectomy and added about 8kg. Then I had 3 traumatic family bereavements and jumped 12kg over the space of 2 years.
I'm constantly considering the future without MJ as I have no intention of using it as maintenance. Looking at how long I maintained, I hope I do the same again. Bearing in mind, I'm menopausal and older and probably less active I will no doubt have to watch what I eat but will it be impossible? I'll have to wait and see.

On various threads you see isolated posters spouting crap about how MJ is wrong and we should learn self control. Their veiled and not so veiled disgust and judgement of our 'over eating' is laid bare. I wish they could see that once I was like them. No understanding of the complexity of weight gain and the distress it causes whilst seemingly unable to shift weight despite eating well. I've gone down to one meal a day in the past to try and lose weight...no good. I'm hopeful that shifting the fat changes the way I naturally process insulin...again we'll have to wait and see.

Mummacake · 15/08/2024 12:08

I've taken a 5mg dose and been nauseous all week with no appetite & a fuzzy head despite lots of water. Thinking I may need to go back to the 2.5 but that wasn't really working for me.

MzHz · 15/08/2024 13:29

I'm feeling much LESS appetite suppression on 5mg than i had on 2.5 - i read somewhere that 5mg is still not necessarily the dose that is a working dose and only at 7.5 does some of the dose stay in your system.

We shall see. Milestone 2 is now only 500g away. it should happen this week

Sorry to hear you are feeling rubbish! Have you tried Windeze? That worked for me in the past after I had a tummy bug and felt all bloated.

I’ve been lucky so far with side effects but day 2 after 5mg I have a nasty itchy rash in the injection site.

But THINK OF THE WEIGHT LOSS!

Wishthiswasntmypost · 15/08/2024 14:29

@mzhz initially I felt less suppression (day 1 and 2) Where are you since jab?

I never have heartburn but yesterday rennies and laxido was my cocktail of the day (mourns proper cocktails)

@ torimj you might be past the worse if jab was recent. Yesterday I felt poorly, knacked and exhausted with gastric issues and today I'm feeling heaps better

@HundredMilesAnHour Amazing thank you!!

If you order the Symprove do you want to send me your referral code? I assume we both benefit.

Aitchtee · 15/08/2024 18:02

Struggling today. Had an actimel and about a quarter of my sandwich at lunch 😨 just feel bloated and sick. Maybe the bonus dose was more than usual? I’m sure it just went to the 1 though so should be the same amount.

ChaChaChooey · 15/08/2024 19:10

Day after moving up to 5 and I had another one of those ‘oh no! I’m ravenous!’ moments.

Ate half a plastic tub of chilled soup (carrot and coriander) and 2 quorn sausages and felt absolutely stuffed, so panic over, again!

gimmemounjaro · 15/08/2024 19:30

I am on day 2 of 5mg and finally understand what everyone is on about - I don't have breakfast anyway, eat lunch fine, but then really struggle to get anything down for dinner. I had a couple of dollops of yogurt and a kiwi this evening. I can see now where all these amazing losses are coming from. I think I will need to get as many calories in at lunchtime as I can, otherwise I won't be eating enough. Hopefully will see a difference on the scales at last too.

Bamboozled5 · 15/08/2024 19:45

I've taken about 3mg this week and it's working very well, without making me unable to eat enough. I think I might stick to about this amount from now on. About 1000 calories today and it's great feeling full and satisfied all the time and not wanting to snack on any rubbish! Have lost 15lb as of this morning. Still a bit of an upset tummy at times but not a problem like it was at the beginning.

I definitely recognise the 'oh no, I'm ravenous' thing and then being relieved when quickly full!

slummymummy35 · 15/08/2024 20:03

I had my first 5mg jab earlier today and it's kicked in so quickly. Made stir fry for dinner and gave myself a tiny portion and it's beaten me! I didn't feel like this on 2.5, I wasn't hungry but when I ate I enjoyed it. Now I'm totally stuffed! 🤢
