Weigh in- first week I've lost nothing 😏

1 3.7kg
2 0.6 kg
3 3.9kg

4 0.6kg (+ bonus dose)

5mg
5 1.4kg
6 0.1kg
7 1.8kg
8 0.6kg
9 2.2kg (bonus dose)
10 0kg

3 more weeks to finish. My GW is 4.7kg away - 5kg above the normal BMI threshold

This week I've had a few comments about weight loss which have made me uncomfortable. Great if it stays off but slightly disconcerting if it goes back on. I'm having a break after this jab. My son is also really concerned by how little I eat "it's not healthy" but I've pointed out it is the only way I can lose weight.

I need to build muscle and not feel so weak. A couple of times this week I've felt tired and faint and checking my BP it's in my boots. I think MJ is causing me to have low BP which plummets when upright hence the tired crap feelings I've had. I can't improve muscle strength until that improves

Oh how frustrating - but if I look at your losses above you have a big loss week and then a very low one the week after… it seems to be a pattern. Hopefully next week will give you a bigger result?

Wishthiswasntmypost · 23/09/2024 20:54

Yes hoping for that!

SallySunrise · 24/09/2024 12:28

I injected Sunday evening. Now at the injection site I've got this raised red patch. It was really itchy first thing, though that seems to have calmed.

Had anyone else had this?

just finished my 2nd pen and sucessfully extracted taken the bonus dose with an insulin syringe - the new skills we learn!

SW 123kg
CW 112.2kg
10.8kg loss since starting MJ on 23rd July - so 2 months
interim GW 85kg
27.2 kg off interim target

I'm going to stick on 5mg for as long as I can - its working well for me.

I'm feeling really good, and I have a new found enthuaism for the gym.

Yes, I started getting it from about week 5 or 6. Mine itch for about a week, get darker, then gradually fade after a few weeks. A number of people have discussed this on the main MJ thread, so it doesn't seem unusual and is a listed side effect.

You don't happen to also use estrogen gel do you? I started HRT a week ago and Sunday was the first injection since then. I've just put tonight's gel on my thighs and now that spot is crazy itchy!

I might have to go back to belly jabs and see if that fixes it.

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 25/09/2024 07:59

Very slow but scales still moving down. I'm now 1.1kg away from goal. Which is nuts as in a normal Weight loss plan I'd have never ever got this far.

Well done all of you.

No HRT. I do get severe mosquito bite reactions (Skeeter Syndrome), so thought it might be linked to that.

I always do stomach on alternating sides of belly button. An annoying thing is the previous injection site reaction seems to get reinvigorated by the new one, so I'm usually itchy on both sides. I take a cetirizine daily, and use creams to try to prevent/ reduce the itch - hydrocortisone, eurax, anthisan, fenistil. lanacane.

This is my only real side effect, so a small price to pay as MJ has been amazing for me otherwise.

Bamboozled5 · 25/09/2024 12:15

14kg down since mid July! Very pleased and noticeably slimmer, but only DH has mentioned it... Still got 8kg to go to get to BMI 25 although feel quite comfortable now at this weight. Will plough on, losing very slowly now. Need to increase exercise I guess and really monitor calories. Well done everyone on losses 😄

I'm only planning to be on MJ for three rest of this current pen. I'll try belly next week. Even if I react, it's not much longer.

Weighed today and I'm in the 12s! I haven't been 12st something in a LONG time!

ChaChaChooey · 25/09/2024 15:34

I just squeaked into a healthy BMI! Not really celebrating though as I haven’t yet organised a maintenance provider and that seems to be a bit more complicated if you aren’t BMI 26 or above.

I’m still about a stone off my ‘usual’ (and 2 stone off my longterm breastfeeding skinniest!) but I am open minded re: whether my usual is sustainable/realistic in midlife

I am bit shocked at how quick it’s been to get from bottom of the obese bracket to top of the healthy bracket - I don’t seem to have a loose skin problem either, although obvs I do not have the full benefits of youthful skin elasticity so should be careful not to tempt fate!

Re: comments above, I am also on HRT (and am also super allergic to mosquito bites).

No skin reactions here which I am pleasantly surprised by because I am allergic to a lot of medical stuff (I had a massive skin reaction to the honey infused post surgical dressing used on my c section wound - the spinal block & diamorphine combo meant I was totally unaware for hours, by which time I had a giant hive-y rash from sternum to knees 😬)

MyPearlMentor · 25/09/2024 19:28

@SallySunrise yes, I get it… lasts about 3 days. I take an antihistamine tablet on two nights & put some cortisone cream on it. Mine is worse on my stomach than in my thigh I think. I checked with my provider as it only started when I increased to 7.5mg. As I have little other side effects (other than the dreaded constipation) I have decided to put up with it!

MyPearlMentor · 25/09/2024 19:32

@ChaChaChooey well done, that’s amazing! I am still 4kg off healthy BMI but hoping to be there in another month. I swapped to Oushk for maintenance without issues (not even a consultation) so maybe look at them - they have 3 plans. Congratulations on the loss.

@Bamboozled5 I am in same place as you, hoping to do the last 4kg in 4-6 weeks and then a couple more for “insurance” as it is inevitable I will gain a bit back. Well done on the loss, hang in there!

Zippitydoodaa · 26/09/2024 09:55

I'm hoping to not go above the 5mg pens ,mainly to keep the cost around £150.
Started on 2.5 , now take 3.75
Still good suppresion and no food noise .I'll go to 5mg if that changes.
Lost 2 and 1/2 st .Only 1 more to go . I'm hoping any days I might be feeling no suppression, I can put into practice the healthy eating I've been doing I in preparation for coming off .
Although at 5ft 6in , and happy to be around 11st 10/ 12 St,
my bmi would be about 27 .
So could try and do a maintenence dose for a wee while .
Hope that all makes sense.

Xiaoxiong · 26/09/2024 10:02

So great to hear about everyone's losses - well done everyone!!!

DH has noticed I look slimmer but apart from that, no one has said anything except a Russian mum at my kids school that I don't even know that well as her DC are in a different year group - she just came up to me and said out of the blue "you have been losing weight, at least 8kg I think, it's good for you." And then walked off!! Grin

@HeBeaverandSheBeaver I'm the same - I used to be on a "lose 4lbs in one month" thread on here for a while and I couldn't even do that without self-sabotaging, getting bored and frustrated and giving up. So for me, to have lost 10kg since mid-July is amazing.

I'm on the slower side I think, over the last 3 months it's been a bumpy line down but on average I'm losing around 0.84kg/1.8lbs a week, which is what everyone always says is a sensible rate. I haven't noticed any hair loss or loose skin or anything like that either.

I've got 4kg to get out of "overweight" into the "healthy" BMI range, and then I'd like to lose another 5kg to get myself into the middle of the healthy BMI range to have a buffer. I'm not sure how long I'll stay on the jabs to maintain, but my lifestyle change plan for the future to not gain the weight back is:

  • three meals a day with helpings half the size of DH and no seconds even if it's tasty, heavy on the protein and fibre
  • no snacks, just nothing between meals ever. I'm just not a snacks person any longer (mind over matter) as they are too easy to over-eat
  • paying attention to when I'm feeling boredom, force of habit (the 3pm coffee and cake!) and emotions (hard day at work = wine and takeaway) and not turning to food/wine as a result of any of those things
  • no more lying to myself or ostrich tactics - weighing myself at least 2-3 times a week, and taking action immediately to cut down on food and drinks for a bit if the weight is creeping up
HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 26/09/2024 10:34

@Xiaoxiong

4kgs is so close. You must be thrilled.

Weighed again and I'm now 06kg awayfrom goal !!!

I literally weighed this 20 years ago. Pre kids and pre wedding.

I tried my wedding dress last week and it fitted however I could not Get My beloved vintage 70s jean done up from Camden market. My shape must have changed since kids.

I won't get rid tho as dd
Might fit them
One day.

However I'm very worried about putting it back on. What are everyone's
Plans for this?

@HeBeaverandSheBeaver I can't even see your face in the second photo but you look 20 years younger!!! Absolutely incredible and even your posture looks happier and more confident. Well done!

My plan for not putting it back on is the four bullet points in my post just above yours - I'm with Voy and the coach has been great actually, prompting me regularly to reflect on what and how I'm eating and what kind of lifestyle changes I am going to make permanent. The main thing is staying on top of it and no more lying to myself. And no more baggy clothes or lycra either except for exercise, if I am going to add a fifth bullet point!!

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 26/09/2024 11:54

@Xiaoxiong

Awe. Thanks. That's so nice.

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 26/09/2024 11:56

@Xiaoxiong
Your plan looks achievable

I'm think I will do similar but also trying to cut processed foods as much as possible. Getting meat from a butcher as much as possible.

And if I have. Treat like coffee cake out that will be counted as the meal and I'll cut elsewhere that day or day after.

Wishthiswasntmypost · 26/09/2024 16:56

Those photos are amazing!

My plan is conscious choices about food rather than eating what I fancy, weighing regularly, no baggy elasticated clothing, drink lots of water and no snacks ever.

Ilovethewild · 27/09/2024 09:42

Sw 118.1
cw 102
gw 70kg

continuing the steady loss of 1-1.5kg pw.

on 7.5, third jab today, am going to stay on 7.5, feels ok

ChaChaChooey · 27/09/2024 14:00

Wow @HeBeaverandSheBeaver! what a change!
So many of us have achieved so much already, it’s hard to keep up with all the successes.

I will try and be brave enough to post pics at some point but I have been avoiding the camera for the past two years and there is no way I’m posting the initial mirror-pic I took for ZAVA 😂

Has anyone found that they’ve accidentally stopped drinking alcohol?

I used to drink like an alcoholic without actually being addicted (empathy drinking with my functional-alcoholic ex husband) but over the past 2 years or so I have stopped buying alcohol to drink at home and gone back to only drinking when out socialising, so maybe twice a month max, sometimes less.

Last Saturday I went to a rock club with a big group, bought one drink for myself, refused a drink from a chap trying to chat me up (I go out to dance, not to hook up 😬) and then happily drank tap water all night!

Usually I feel a bit too socially awkward to cope with a big group without a couple of drinks, so on a night out I would usually have maybe 3 ciders or share a bottle of wine with a friend, but after one drink I absolutely did not want anything but water - not because I was already tipsy, I just didn’t want anymore, similar to the way Mounjaro has made be satisfied with small portions of foods 🤷‍♀️

Wishthiswasntmypost · 28/09/2024 07:44

Lining up to look like I've lost nothing again. In fact scales this morning showed 0.6 gain 🙄

I've started eating still small amounts, but more relaxed about eating same food as family (which should be a sustainable change I thought?) I've not drunk as much as I did at the beginning but am really trying to up that again. Back to drinking 3L as opposed to 2L.

I've just ordered on more 2.5mg jab to put in the fridge for use in the future after a planned holiday. So ending 5mg in a fortnight, month off then a 2.5mg month to get me back on track as I feel the holiday a week after coming off is asking for a backwards step and then a mindset of 'I can't do it'. I also thought I'd struggle to get a prescription at my new BMI of 28. Medexpress may refuse me now but hope not. I wonder if the step down will make them quibble?
