Just do it. Honestly.

I had it in my fridge for weeks, umming and ahhhing. Worried about side effects. Worried about whether it's a bit extreme. Etc etc

Finally I took the plunge. And now onto week 4.

I've been on a diet my whole adult life.
I've always been a slow loser, chugging away at a pound a week, putting 3 back on if I have a weekend off, feeling hopeless and defeated.

I've lost 13lbs in three weeks and dropping my BMI from 35 to 33. I've felt well, and can't believe how liberating it feels to not be thinking about food all the time. Not popping for a little look in the fridge or cupboard every so often.

I've also stopped drinking coffee and wine as absolutely don't fancy it at all.

Have eaten no sweets, cake, crisps, junk at all in three week. No urge at all.

It's magical stuff.

I'm with Voy, they do counselling via WhatsApp which is nice if you're like me and not keen on talking to stranger on phone.

I have a discount code, pm if you want it or check out the discount code thread which has loads of options for where you can buy from.

Good luck! Flowers

Hi. I'm classed as obese but I'm strong and active. I'm post-menopausal so weight loss is so hard.

I just cannot afford the jabs. How much do you pay every month?

EricCatman · 06/08/2024 18:26

Mine are £122, but there are lots of discount codes knocking about on here. One one gives 5 doses (should be 4, but there’s enough for an extra dose left in the pen).

I only want to lose 10 more pounds, so 2 pens in total will be enough for me.

Wishing you all the luck!

I’m also on Mounjaro. Week 5 for me and I’ve lost 24 pounds. It’s amazing and I’ve had no side effects whatsoever. In fact, I have to force myself to eat anything at all.

They start around £115 a month, there's lots of deals and discount codes for different suppliers.
I use Voy which have been good value with discount codes but often people switch supplier to get a better deal so I'm doing it month by month.
I have a discount code for Voy if you'd like it.
Or there's a thread with codes for all different suppliers in main forum.
It is pricey, but I think if you tend to buy coffees/takeaway/snacks out those things compensate you as I've not bought any of those things since I started.

Thanks @ToriMJ. It must be good - I haven’t even had them delivered yet and I’m full up from my evening meal! Not like me at all.

Can I ask, is the discount code just for the first one or can I use another one when I order in a month’s time?

Justme2023123 · 06/08/2024 20:18

Is anyone taking additional contraceptive precautions? I almost signed up again earlier but the warnings about it messing with the pill put me off.

Working just by the idea of it Grin
I'm not sure. You can cancel the subscription with one click. I then restarted mine a while later and used a refer a friend discount from someone using my code. If you message them they are pretty helpful

I think anything that can interfere with your gastro system has that risk, vom or diarr as possible side effects, better to be safe than sorry I guess. The prescriber could give you more advice.

Thank you for posting about your experience. I'm very tempted but keep changing my mind as I worry about side effects such as hair loss (it's already thin due to menopause). I'm also vegetarian and not keen on eggs so how would I ensure I get a balanced diet with what I do eat?

Also, what happens when you stop?

ToriMJ · 06/08/2024 21:18

You can get protein in through vege options like nuts, oats, protein yogurts and shakes, or get some clear protein drink - they do vege friendly versions although not cheap. And otherwise you're just eating a normal healthy diet minus large portions and snacks.
Protein bagel with peanut butter, salads or soups with grains pulses etc, just need to squeeze in protein rich foods where you can.

What happens when you stop.... who knows really. I'm
Thinking either hopefully I will have retrained my
Habits or every January I have mounjaro month.
I will cross that bridge when I come to
It.

Thanks op. This is reassuring. I'm on holiday next week. I'm going to start when I come back.

This extra weight has been here too long!

BlueyTuesdays · 06/08/2024 22:49

It does sound incredible and I’m tempted. When I’ve dieted before and really cut calories I end up feeling light headed and dizzy. Does that happen at all? Just wondering how the body copes with the lack of calories even if your mind and habit-driven instinct seem to no longer run along the lines of thinking so much about food.

VoyOySaveloy · 06/08/2024 22:56

Other side of the coin, for balance..
Did not work for me. I took it for 2 weeks and had to stop due to pounding heart, fast heart rate which increased my anxiety and gave me panic attacks.
I did lose 3kg, but ended up throwing away my other doses.

I could have taken the nausea and sleep disturbances. Couldn't take the panic.

If it work for you it's great. I am proof it doesn't suit everybody (and I am not the only one!)

You seem to be really against this medication and I've seen you on a few threads now. I'm sorry it didn't work for you but for most people it works really well

Mikki77 · 06/08/2024 22:58

Hi everyone

Can I ask where everyone got their Mounjaro from - doctors or chemist?
Also how much does it cost?

HelloVeritas · 06/08/2024 23:09

I'd love a discount code for Voy please x

I am not against the medication at all. Fuxk, I bought it and hoped it was going to be the answer to my prayers. I have been overweight my whole adult life and I was so very hopeful this was the answer. I am just giving the balance to everyone saying it's marvellous, jump on the ride.

If it works for you it's brilliant. It does seem to ramp up anxiety in others. I am just letting people know that.

I am not against the meds per se, but just because many people have a wonderful journey doesn't mean everyone will. For me it was awful and I don't think it's inappropriate to warn that it doesn't work for everyone. I don't want people to think they have failed if it turns out to be not for them. I really wish it had worked for me, but it didn't. A quick google of mounjaro anxiety will show I am not alone.

Just because I feel it's sensible to warn people that it doesn't work for everyone doesn't mean I am against the meds in principle. If they had not made me lie awake with fear rippling down my spine I would very happily have stayed on them.

Hrt did this to me.
Which makes me think these drugs may well have the same effect 🙄

I am fine on HRT so mounjaro might be ok for you?

Thank you. I've ordered it!!! Messed up the photo as I'd cut my feet off (oddly enough, my feet are the one place i haven't gained weight...) so I've just uploaded another.

I'm going to have to do a lot more research on protein today. I'm intolerant to oats (might be useful to get some in for if I experience constipation) and I despise peanut butter (and almond).

Could you tell me more about the protein drinks please? Obviously I've googled but there's so many. Ideally I'd like a protein and collagen supplement if such a thing exists together.

Okayornot · 07/08/2024 09:11

Re protein powder, I like the impact whey isolate that I get from Myprotein.com. The unflavoured version mixes well into smoothies. They also do a collagen powder which I haven't tried. Collagen is a form of protein so presumably you could use that to increase your protein intake.

If you are vegetarian then you may well not be meeting your protein needs now (contributing to any weight issue) so definitely worth trying to get more protein into your diet with or without Mounjaro.

JamieFrasersSassenach · 07/08/2024 09:40

I wholeheartedly agree with @ToriMJ - if you're thinking about it then do it!

It is amazing - I'm only on week 2 but I cannot believe how it has switched off the food noise. Especially as 2.5 is supposed to be sub-therapeutic.

I delayed for months because of the side effect worries and the cost. But I had been lurking on the very long running thread on Mounjaro - it's on thread 19 now!!

Then just just under 2 weeks ago I thought - I have hardly any clothes that fit me as they should, I have wardrobes full of clothes that I used to love wearing but I haven't been able to fit into for about 5 years. I've spent most of my life (DM put me on my first diet when I was 8!) trying to lose weight and then regaining it. I have such a hate love hate relationship with diets/weight loss/food. I'm always hungry/thinking about eating even when I've eaten a huge meal - I still want more.

So I thought, right I could spend a couple of hundred pounds on new clothes to fit me or I could spend that on trying Mounjaro and if it works I could get back my old wardrobe.

I used a code from another Mumsnetter for Voy and it cost £140 for the first pen. I will be honest and say that I don't know if I've lost any weight in my first week - I hate weighing myself (unsurprisingly given 45 years of my moods being determined by the number on the scales.) But I feel lighter and the freedom of not constantly thinking about food is unbelievable.

I would think I have saved at least £25 the first week on my shopping bill so I don't think it's going to actually cost that much. I know when I've followed other diets (WW & SW I'm looking at you) the cost in both money and time to be making the recipes/buying the products, paying for and attending the groups has not been small. And for me, the misery of feeling hungry and feeling that it's so unjust that I can't just eat a portion of food and be satisfied - it's gone.

I'm on HRT and so far it does not seem to have made any difference to that. The needles are so fine that honestly you don't feel them.

I thoroughly recommend Voy, it seems as though some of the 'cheaper' providers are less easy to deal with and can be mush slower sending pens out.

Happy to answer any questions on here or by DM. There are lots of other threads too - I recommend the long running thread.
