Just do it. Honestly.

I had it in my fridge for weeks, umming and ahhhing. Worried about side effects. Worried about whether it's a bit extreme. Etc etc

Finally I took the plunge. And now onto week 4.

I've been on a diet my whole adult life.
I've always been a slow loser, chugging away at a pound a week, putting 3 back on if I have a weekend off, feeling hopeless and defeated.

I've lost 13lbs in three weeks and dropping my BMI from 35 to 33. I've felt well, and can't believe how liberating it feels to not be thinking about food all the time. Not popping for a little look in the fridge or cupboard every so often.

I've also stopped drinking coffee and wine as absolutely don't fancy it at all.

Have eaten no sweets, cake, crisps, junk at all in three week. No urge at all.

It's magical stuff.

I'm with Voy, they do counselling via WhatsApp which is nice if you're like me and not keen on talking to stranger on phone.

I have a discount code, pm if you want it or check out the discount code thread which has loads of options for where you can buy from.

Good luck! Flowers

Well done op! It's liberating not to feel so dependent on food. I'm dreading the day I need to go off it.

ToriMJ · 06/08/2024 09:50

It really is like having a new brain. This is what naturally slim people feel like I guess. Eat when it's time to eat, otherwise don't think about it.

'It'

Which one do you mean?

Alwaysdarkestjustbeforedawn · 06/08/2024 10:00

Hey well done on your loss! Can I ask how much you are hoping to lose?

I had two stone to lose and over the course of 4 months, I have only lost a stone (been calorie counting etc) so maybe it’s more effective for some than others?

ToriMJ · 06/08/2024 10:01

Specifically, I'm taking mounjaro.

Pre-assumption is that you meet criteria and have been prescribed it by a HCP.

I'm eating 800-900 cals a day so loss is fast, that's all I feel I want so I'm using the fast 800 as a guide to eating healthy in this deficit.

You’ve done so well!

I have been no more than 1000 calories a day and focussing on protein but it seems a really slow loss, I was a bit worried about losing it too fast due to the risk of loose skin but I thought it be much faster than this!
Perhaps I’m one of the people who it has minimal effects on?

Thanks for posting - that's really interesting. Dp is about to start this. He has about 30kg to lose. His main problem is just eating all the time - he's literally starving no matter what he eats and what he does. I'm really hoping it works for him as he's so fed up and his knees are now hurting from the excess weight.

8008Bee · 06/08/2024 10:45

he's also left it in the fridge for a few weeks and hasn't started it yet!

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 06/08/2024 11:24

@8008Bee your poor DP! Part of what MJ does is switch off that hunger. I used to feel very sick with hunger most mornings until I ate and that has just gone allowing to fast for longer if I wish.

We do all react differently but I have really had minimal side effects, lost 24 pounds in 6 weeks and can now walk upstairs without searing knee pain!

That will all just switch off once he's at the right dose. Like magic.

I’m so glad you posted this.

Firstly I have only taken my first dose today, so I’m not going to act like my body or mind has completely changed lol

However I used to be slim, and only gained weight recently, so I can say that for me my weight gain is 100% a mind issue. It’s like, I felt I had to eat for comfort almost. Making sure I ticked off daily meals even if not hungry. But for the majority of my life, I never had those thoughts. I’d just eat when I needed to and naturally stop when I didn’t need to.

And tbh, having my first dose this morning, I haven’t felt hungry. But I have felt that compulsion to want to eat, for the sake of it. It’s already been eye opening for me that it’s a matter of willpower I suppose

SettingsOptions · 06/08/2024 15:35

It’s like the compulsion is to eat something but finish it eg the whole plate/ice cream tub/crisp packet etc even if part of it amounted to a portion. It’s like I had to keep going and finish.

Hopefully it will put you back into that mindset of eating when you need and stopping when you're done. It has for me, it's took away all the other chatter and temptation. Eating for the good feeling is now replaced by eating because I probably ought to.

Absolutely, a lack of control, mind telling you to get it all in. Which biologically we are creatures of feast or famine do we would have stuffed ourselves during times of good supply to cover the times of famine but we never gave the famine to balance us out any more!

If I get Mounjaro from Voy is the counselling optional or mandatory (asking as I don't want it).

Thanks!

To be honest I'd say take it - you don't get fat without some sort of underlying mental thing and it will be good to have tools under your belt for when you finish

Yes, absolutely! Your posts are so relatable.

I have just reread what you posted about wine… I feel the same! I have a bottle open in the fridge but no desire to go anywhere near it, regardless of finishing work and relaxing with friends. Or the coffee.

It feels like I might get a good break from it all, like you hopefully x

I've been so surprised to feel so much with the first dose. I've had a couple of side effects but quickly figured out how to stop them. Fatty food for me upset my stomach and eating later at night gave me heartburn. Both resolved now after 3 weeks

Just ordered on the back of this. Wish me luck! I’m so nervous tbh. Looking forward to a slimmer me though

I forgot to say thank you!

EricCatman · 06/08/2024 17:34

I’m also on Mounjaro. Week 5 for me and I’ve lost 24 pounds. It’s amazing and I’ve had no side effects whatsoever. In fact, I have to force myself to eat anything at all.
