The first thread was almost full, so I thought I'd start a second so we can carry on the fab support!
I don't think I could manage tagging everyone!! But here is the link to the first thread https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weight-loss-injections/5101435-mounjaro-july-2024?page=1

Have you been checked for fibroids? I had that and it was due to a few and one in particular awkward fibroid which I ended up having removed under GA. Please go see GP and ask for a scan.

SilenceInside · 19/08/2024 11:07

So I'm back from a week away on holiday, I missed my usual Friday weigh-in and have had to postpone my injection from Friday to today. I'm weighing in and injecting today and then will bring it back a day at a time until I am back onto a Friday weigh-in and injection.

After 6 weeks, 4 at 2.5mg and two at 5mg:

SW: 139kg (21st 12lbs)
CW: 125kg (19st 9lbs) 🎉made my first goal weight!
GW: 125kg (19st 9lbs)

My losses each week have been:

Wk1 -4kg
Wk2 -1kg
Wk3 -3kg
Wk4 -1.3kg
Wk5 -2.8kg
Wk6 -1.9kg

A total of 14kg down to date, or just about 2st 3lbs, and 10% of my starting weight.

I am happy that I still lost when on holiday, but I had no problem eating a deficit despite lots of opportunities not to. I found I enjoyed myself and enjoyed not feeling miserable due to overeating. Overall, it improved the quality of my holiday rather than detracted from it.

My next goal weight will be 10% of my current weight, which will be 112.5kg, or 17st 10lbs and a BMI of just under 40!

Has anyone else found any changes to their cycle since starting? My cycle had crept from my usual 28 day up to 35ish days which I suspect was down to weight gain. My cycle this month is back down to 28 days, but this month and last month has absolutely floored me!! The cramps are on par with early labour!!

I think this is a fairly common side effect from what I've read. I wonder if it's because MJ helps with PCOS so therefore it will inevitably make small changes to a persons menses.

Flowersandbubblegum · 19/08/2024 11:50

I increased to the 7.5 at the weekend and oh my gosh I have side effects. Til now nothing bad really, it's been a breeze. I've still eaten normally but the food noise stopped.

Since doing 7.5, I've had sulphur burps (i understand this now, not just indigestion style burps but they taste of eggs 🤢), bad stomach (was up at 5am) and I'm in work feeling nauseous and fatigued.

I've eaten great so far, reducing portions but still eating meals. Now I literally feel like I could struggle with a few bites or not wanting anything at all. Feeling a bit self conscious at work as I'm sure the first guess will be hungover as it's Monday but I don't drink anymore so it's like the worst hangover without the fun bit at the start.

KeepinOn · 19/08/2024 12:15

Oof, @Flowersandbubblegum that does sound rough. I hope it calms down for you, but selfishly, your experience has helped me solidify my own decision to stick at 5. Have you stepped up to 7.5 to improve weight loss effects? Have you not seen many results with 5?

Flowersandbubblegum · 19/08/2024 12:35

I've been slow and steady but I think I'll see bigger drops now. I stepped up just as suggested with 1 pen for each dose, but this feels a bit overwhelming today. If you are having good drops as you are then stay as you are for as long as you need to. Plus (I can't remember exactly) it's a little more expensive each time you increase dose so costs will be better long term too x

You won't necessarily see bigger drops for eating less, weirdly. My first week on 5mg and I struggled to eat much at all, was managing around 400-500 cals per day on a couple of protein bars and a bit of fruit...my losses were still 2 lbs.

Flowersandbubblegum · 19/08/2024 12:43

I've been around 2lbs a week since starting which can feel off putting at times when I'm seeing people drop over a stone in a month. But keeping at it and what will be will be x

GoSummer676 · 19/08/2024 13:34

Losing 2lb a week is normal and sustainable lots of things can impact the rate of loss but mostly genetics. Building muscle will help. Personally I’ve stayed on a lower dose as I feel better and still losing steadily.

Flowersandbubblegum · 19/08/2024 13:42

I can see the reasoning and that's great, it may be if this carries on I step back down then continue at 5. I'll finish then pen and decide. In all honesty my weightloss was steady on both 2.5 and 5 so unless the next 4 weeks have a mighty impact the side effects might not be worth it.

Lumirubin · 19/08/2024 17:28

@GoSummer676 I've had MANY transvaginal scans over the years because of multiple rounds of IVF and never had fibroids, but admittedly haven't been scanned since my daughter was around 2 months old and she's almost 3. DH keeps suggesting I go to the GP with how bad it's been recently, but honestly Ive got PTSD from our fertility treatment and I'm fairly certain that will trigger it! But I am going to have to if this continues. Interesting that others have experienced changes too, maybe it's another side effect I'm going to have to learn to manage whilst on MJ.

Well done on a great loss @SilenceInside !

So, I’m here for a weekly update,

SW - 13 stone
Week 1 - 12 10
week 2 - 12 7
week 3 - 12 6
week 4 - 12 4

heading in the right direction and slowly which is what I wanted. The blip last week of course was the jammed pen. I took the advice given by a helpful poster here and ordered some needles so was able to extract what I needed albeit it 2 days later than planned.
Voy were appalling in relation to the jammed pen. It took 3 days before they finally responded to an email (live chat and phone calls were useless) and said I needed to return the pen (at my own cost) for them to examine as it was highly unusual for pens to be faulty. If the pen was found to be jammed they would send me a 20% off voucher for a future pen. If, as was most likely, the pen was found to be operational they would destroy it and no discount would be offered. I was furious,I felt the inference was that I was lying and that they would find the pen to be working perfectly and avoid any refund. I was simply looking to receive what I had paid for, nothing more. I also wasn’t happy that it was for a “future pen “ and it would be too late to ply it to the pen which they were about to dispatch. So I told them to keep it and delete my account completely.

I ordered from Health Express for £179.99. I was still over 30BMI so went through fine. Pen arrived today along with 7 needles which I think is excellent as there were no spares on the previous one.

it’s the 5mg dose though and I’m happy with the current progress so thinking about doing 3.75mg and making the pen last 6 weeks. Is my only option to use the insulin needles to do that? The only reason I ask is that I found the small pen needles easier and ended up with a fair bruise using the insulin needle last week. Clearly just my incompetence but would rather avoid any visible marks.

there is still some fluid left in the original 2.5mg Voy pen - not sure how much but was thinking I could take it out with another insulin needle and, depending on how much is there, it could be my 5th dose. Does that make sense or is that a really stupid idea?

Mounjarorookie · 20/08/2024 19:02

Oh and after blithely saying I had no side effects I’m beginning to wonder about that!

im pretty tired - in bed by 9.30 and asleep by 9.45 which is unusual. I also yawn my head off from about 6pm onwards and a very random thing that I wondered if was connected- I had an eyebrow tint and wax at the weekend. Regular occurrence, same therapist, same wax, same tint - except this time I ended up with skint/burnt eyelids (had to go to pharmacy for cream) and the light brown dye took on an almost jet black colour. I look like I have 2 giant slugs above my eyes🙁. Poor therapist was mortified and totally aghast but couldn’t understand either situation.
it was only yesterday that I began to wonder if it was connected to the Mounjaro?

@silenceinside - that’s amazing progress.

KeepinOn · 20/08/2024 19:13

I don't think you can use it after it's been open for 30 days. Best to check though!

diian · 20/08/2024 21:30

I would take the bonus dose out with the insulin syringe. I did my bonus dose at about 35 days due to the pen jamming (hard twist) whilst on holiday. It gave the same suppression.

I used the bonus dose after the 30 days, I'm still here to tell the tale, and I think a good chunk of others do it too

scattychicken · 20/08/2024 21:50

Am in the right place for July starters?! Just done my last 2.5mg. No side effects yet but lost about 6/7lbs. Happy with that so far.

KeepinOn · 21/08/2024 10:01

Congrats, @diian - a great record of your experience, too, thank you for writing that out.

And well done @scattychicken , we have all started in July here I think!

I've taken my 4th dose of 5mg and have been feeling well. More tired, perhaps, but no awful side-effects, and I feel like my eating is reasonable, not too little. I'll be staying on the 5mg for the foreseeable, and I'm buying it with Oxford Online Pharmacy, which usually has a discount code knocking about online for 10% off or so (I use the coupon scanning tool in Edge to find them!).

I don't weigh-in until Friday, and I don't feel like I've lost tonnes this week, but I feel more back to my 'normal' self. Looking back at pics of me just a few months ago, I didn't look healthy. :( I'm definitely glad I took the plunge, I feel like I'm making efforts to just look after myself better too (the psychological effect of spending £££ on something!).

Moier · 21/08/2024 11:25

Four weeks on 2.5 and lost a stone.
Monday night had my first 5.
Had to force myself to have a salad wrap at lunch time. Ate half.
Tea time l made a jkt potato with tuna.. managed half.
I've had no side effects whatsoever..
I've more energy and feel great.
My diabetic nurse said because I'm type 2 and it's helping in every way.
Think I'll have some smoked haddock and veg today.

User364837 · 21/08/2024 20:04

I did 5 weeks @ 2.5mg, 2 weeks @ 3.75mg and yesterday had my first 5mg as I felt 3.75 wasn’t really cutting it.

horrid sulphur burps all day today, was so paranoid about them coming out at work and tried to sit away from everyone - they’re so stinky! But hard to control,

has anyone found a reliable remedy? Seen people on Reddit talk about Pepto Bismal working for them but not sure what the UK equivalent is. I think Gaviscon is different? Hoping it’s temporary!!

MounjaroMunchie · 21/08/2024 20:23

I've yet to experience sulphur burps @User364837 but I've read that peppermint oil capsules can really help. I bought a box off Amazon to have on standby but touch wood, haven't needed to take any yet. They are supposedly good for bloating, too.

My 4th 5mg jab is due tomorrow and like last week, I'm finding that the effects have lasted the full week. I did have a rough couple of days over the weekend with nausea and not wanting to eat, but I feel much better now. My son and husband have been feeling similar the last few days, so I'm wondering if it was actually a mild bug, rather than jab side effects? Who knows!

JaneFallow · 22/08/2024 07:44

Have lost 10% of body weight now. And, in my favourite unit of measurement, the equivalent of 44 blocks of butter!

My first week at 5mg and I was a little spooked by how strong the effects of this drug are and the combination of ketosis and suppression. I am not sure I am going to venture above 5mg even if the losses do slow down.

KeepinOn · 22/08/2024 07:47

Congrats @JaneFallow !

My NSV for this week is fitting into one size smaller jeans. Stretchy, but still. I feel good about it!
