Continuing Mounjaro...part 16

Please note: Mounjaro will only be be prescribed initially if your BMI is above 30. If you have additional health conditions you can get the medication with a BMI 27. (Prediabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or heart problems)

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after that a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Some people find that they don't need to go up a pen dose each month if the current pen dosage is working well for them. If you are unsure when to go up, speak to your prescriber.

8 - If you are having bad side effects after titrating up or you are struggling to eat your calories each day, your dose may be too high so should consider lowering your dose. Speak to your prescriber if unsure.

9 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

10 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

11 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
https://medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

12 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss.

Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein

https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

13 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), psylum husks(fibre for constipation), electrolytes.

14 - Drink lots of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Try and drink at least 2ltrs a day.

15 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

16 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

17 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

18 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

21 - Worried about your supply being cut off when you get to a healthy BMI? Below is some info on some places maintenance plans.

The Family chemist :Would consult you as approached healthy BMI to discuss maintenance under close supervision(if you started with family chemist)
Curate: up to 2 years
Cloud: up to 2 years
Boots: Cut off at BMI 23

Pharmacy2u: Will supply for maintenance
Bolt:Individual assessment once BMI 22 and does offer maintenance

@summerlovingvibes i hope you can wear that uniform with pride soon.

summerlovingvibes · 10/07/2024 09:03

@Summerheels I hope so too - it's been a long time coming I feel! Always get comments from other members of staff being confused when I turn up to more senior things 😂 And then have the embarrassment of saying my correct uniform doesnt fit 😂

Fitintomajeans · 10/07/2024 09:09

For anyone on a stall I'd recommend looking at any foods you may be having daily.

In my last stall I removed my daily slice of sourdough bread and the weight dropped and most recently I was stuck on 10.13 since the 20th of June.

After cutting out the sourdough I started eating Greek yoghurt and berries for brekkie. I decided to swap it back for an egg, avacado and tomatoesnand since Sunday morning have dropped 5lbs 😳😳

It's good to know that once I get to target I can bring back the sourdough and yoghurt and I won't put weight on, but while while on worthy loss journey, I am cutting it out.

I’m due to take my jab today, 3rd 7.5 dose, however I’m volunteering at work tomorrow then away camping on Saturday. Would there be any risk of increased side effects if I delayed my jab till Sunday? So it would be 5 days later?

3wDavid · 10/07/2024 10:06

Good morning!

Another week, another 3.75 mg jab for me.

I must say, I didn't feel any bad side effects with this dose last week, and I didn't really experience any big suppression either. I might be ready to move on to the 5 mg, maybe?

In other news, I am another 2lbs down this week, and have hit my second mini goal of 95 kg.

I've been on my MJ journey for 6 weeks now and I'm 12 kg down (26 lbs).

My next goal is to get down to 90 kg, which was my pre-preg weight and the lowest I've been in the past 2-3 years.

How have you felt on the 7.5mg? Could you take 5mg this week then back to 7.5mg next week?

Well done for all the losses and the NSVs☺️

I have lost my butt 😞 I have definitely been poor at having enough protein so need to up that. But I fear it is too late to save my derriere 😅

Is there is any hope of it coming back or is that it for me? I can feel the top of my hip bone now and chairs hurt to sit on for too long...very strange feeling!

OP posts:
GreyFinch · 10/07/2024 10:16

@ObsidianTree I’ve felt a little more exhausted than normal and also feeling light headed when standing up so I don’t want to risk a funny turn! I was fine on 5mg so might be a good idea to do a 5 tonight, I hadn’t thought of that!

PomchiK · 10/07/2024 10:18

I'm sure someone asked about the process of switching to Bolt from Zava but now I've caught up I can't find the post. I've just switched, they ask for photo ID, a full body pic including face no older than 30 days and proof of current dosage, either a photo of the label on the box or order confirmation from current supplier. I hope this helps 😊

Unnecessary and uncalled for. Those posters are probably on these threads reading you talking about them.

All posters are looking for support and up until now anything I read in this topic has been very supportive of each other. We are all on a difficult journey let’s keep this a friendly and supportive place for all. Tell them it is important to research or tell them the reasons for the guidelines if you know, but let’s not start this behaviour.

easterbuns1 · 10/07/2024 10:27

I'm mainly a lurker but checking in to place mark.

Only have another 6lb to lose as I was only just over bmi 30 when I started and have lost pretty steadily.

BlackFriYay · 10/07/2024 11:21

Day 2 after my second 7.5mg jab, I have woken this morning with appetite suppression and not ravenous as i have been for the past fortnight. Hallelujah! I thought I'd have to white knuckle it for another 4 weeks. Hopefully it lasts the duration.

BlackFriYay · 10/07/2024 11:24

Also - I have lost my derriere too, Obsidian. I'm aiming to restart the gym this week so plan on trying to grow it a bit!

I've never had a bum 😭I've been everything from BMI 22 to 31 and it's nonexistent no matter what I do. One less thing to worry about...

thisbetheverse · 10/07/2024 11:51

@Herewegoagainandagainandagain agreed!!

CiderJabs · 10/07/2024 12:21

@Vamozz so far I've not exceeded 30 days but I'm on my last pen and will prob use it for 8 weeks. I've bought extra wipes and am cleaning the whole pen twice every time I use so I hope the risk of infection will be less.

Can I get some lunch inspo?

Struggling to eat more than 2x a day so very aware I need it to be super nutritional.

My go-to lunch is oatcakes with cottage cheese (full fat) couple eggs, cucumber, or alternate with hummus.

What do you have that's going to be nutrient dense?

"God there’s a poster on their own thread asking the most basic questions about weight loss drugs and someone is sharing discount codes with them!"

"I did direct the poster to this thread and advised to stick to the recommended schedule. The fact remains that too many posters fail to undertake any research at all. As posted above by others, the inability of some people to take a bit of time to research Mounjaro and how to take it is quite scary. A lot of people are looking for a quick fix and will do themselves harm by trying to cut corners. Admittedly I should have removed the poster's name and I regret that, but I don't regret highlighting the question posed."

You directed them to a thread where you are negatively talking about them and you think that is acceptable behaviour on what has otherwise been a very supportive forum?

Asking questions on the forum is a form a research. They may just be starting out and overwhelmed with all the information and misinformation flooding the internet where to start that research, they may have noticed others talking about changing the clicks on their pens and want to understand more and are just asking a questions. Their questions (name included or not) do not deserve to be quoted and ridiculed on other threads and that is not the way to stop anyone doing themselves some harm. That is not what a support thread if for!

I've just had a chunk of ready cooked salmon, cottage cheese and baby spinach. It was very filling and I think pretty healthy.

Alright @Herewegoagainandagainandagain ive asked for my post to be removed. Stand down.

RagzRebooted · 10/07/2024 13:15

Checking in after catching up on the last thread and this one. Got distracted with election drama and my Mounjaro reading obsession transferred to politics. I'm back!
Got down to BMI 29.7 last week, no longer obese, then a weekend of eating Chinese takeaway (birthdays in the household) sent my weight soaring back up by 3lbs (salt related bloating I assume), but I'm almost back to my lowest now.
3rd Jab of 7.5mg this week, 16 weeks in and I'm down 16.5kg/36lbs.

@summerlovingvibes I have been delighted to be wearing my actual uniform tunic the last few weeks, after hiding in scrubs in increasing sizes for the past few years. I started wearing them in COVID, kept them for a hot summer and then realised I was too fat for my uniform any more and just ended up buying bigger scrubs! The XL scrubs are the bin now and I can actually sit down in my tunic! Lots of compliments at work as the tunic suits my shape and made everyone notice my weight loss!

I'm loving 7.5mg, it seems to last almost all week and side effects are getting less of a problem. I did think the fatigue was improving, though it's still there the first few days. Hoping I can stay on 7.5mg for a while, but will see how it goes. I've a long way to go yet, I'm not even halfway in my weight loss despite being on this since March! Losing steadily, but I'm tall and started at 17.5 stone.

I have a virtual session with a personal stylist this afternoon. My lovely colleague (who is also on MJ) bought it for me as a gift. I feel the poor lady is going to have her work cut out with me! I have no style, barely any clothes and the only colours in my wardrobe are black, grey, white and blue (navy or jeans!). I hate clothes shopping as I find most clothes ugly, I don't like most patterns and run away from bright colours! So, this will be interesting...
