Continuing Mounjaro...part 16

Please note: Mounjaro will only be be prescribed initially if your BMI is above 30. If you have additional health conditions you can get the medication with a BMI 27. (Prediabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or heart problems)

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after that a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Some people find that they don't need to go up a pen dose each month if the current pen dosage is working well for them. If you are unsure when to go up, speak to your prescriber.

8 - If you are having bad side effects after titrating up or you are struggling to eat your calories each day, your dose may be too high so should consider lowering your dose. Speak to your prescriber if unsure.

9 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

10 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

11 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
https://medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

12 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss.

Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein

https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

13 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), psylum husks(fibre for constipation), electrolytes.

14 - Drink lots of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Try and drink at least 2ltrs a day.

15 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

16 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

17 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

18 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

21 - Worried about your supply being cut off when you get to a healthy BMI? Below is some info on some places maintenance plans.

The Family chemist :Would consult you as approached healthy BMI to discuss maintenance under close supervision(if you started with family chemist)
Curate: up to 2 years

Asda: Cut off at a healthy BMI
Pharmacy2u: Will supply for maintenance
Bolt:Individual assessment once BMI 22 and does offer maintenance

@FlappyFish I missed your message. You're definitely in the gang.

Apologies to everyone for derailing the thread somewhat but it was a fun diversion and so lovely to get to know you all a little better.

I'm off to bed to sleep mentally write a business plan.

MountKilimounjaro · 18/07/2024 00:10

Uh oh. I've just noticed we've almost filled the thread! Sorry @ObsidianTree

I'm in customer care so I can deal with the enquiries and complaints (not that there would be any of course)

Lastchancefatty · 18/07/2024 06:17

I've just done my first 5mg. When I started I thought I would be on 2.5 for at least 2 pens but the willpower wore off and I also felt hungry so here I am on 5. I'm scared 😂

Lastchancefatty · 18/07/2024 06:18

My new pen didn't want to prime today and then after the jab there was quite a bit of liquid on my skin...... has anyone else had this?

GreyFinch · 18/07/2024 06:20

I come from customer care also, particularly via social media so I can be on hand for any advice or queries 😂🤩

Major NSV for me this morning. I had purchased a size 20 pair of work trousers that at the beginning I couldn’t do up at all. A month or so ago I finally got into them but I wouldn’t say comfortably. This morning I’ve put them on and they’re almost too loose to wear!! I’m 2.5 stone down and I have gone from a size 22 to now 20’s are loose.

Im attending a wedding in august and purchased a size 20 dress to hopefully be in by then, tried it on and it’s now too big so if I’m in size 18 by then I’ll not know what to do with myself 😭

Well done!! What dose are you on? I'm a similar clothing size. I can't wait to see an 18 or even 16 in my future 🔮

Tireduk · 18/07/2024 06:59

Well done @spamm . You have done so very well and it must be such a relief to hear such good medical news from your doctor. As for how you feel, as you say it’s going to take time as I’m guessing, living with your health and weight for years, all these changes have come fast and you need time to just think about it and adjust. It’s so seriously wonderful to hear so many stories of improved health and such success! When you’re ready, enjoy buying your new wardrobe!

I'm late to the party, but as an ex computer science teacher and current data analyst, I can manage the customer database and produce some nifty reports!

Re the thread becoming full, this always happens to me on the days when I am in the office! I've been off two days this week and worked from home one day, but the day when I'll be in office and in meetings, the thread might get full! Lol! So typical! I'll check back when I get into office incase I need to make a new thread. Try not to fill it up guys 🤣

I love MNJaro. I did just snort loudly.

I’m an international HR VP… I’m glad we have payroll sorted. I will merrily do the growth plans and some awesome benefits and set up our entities.

You beat me to it, another HR leader here.

What a group we are!

BellaCriesAndThatsAlright · 18/07/2024 07:28

We have a very impressive group here 😁

SilverHeels · 18/07/2024 07:36

Morning. I am a health professional lead working in strategic leadership in adult social care. Not sure what I can bring to the party but am sure I have very useful skills.

I love that we are all so skilled and amazing and reminds me of the multiple threads about how the fat people just need to learn self discipline and how to cook !

I am away with friends again and have been told ‘you have lost loads of weight’ a few times.
My BMI is just over 30 still so I still have a way to go. I think people must just get used to me being big. I have not been a healthy BMI in my adult life and really want to get there this time.

Callmejudith · 18/07/2024 07:43

Wow this is an incredibly skilled group!

butterfly0404 · 18/07/2024 07:58

Patient Advocate here, (various legal frameworks, MHA, MCA, DOls, Care Act) lobbying and campaigning skills, probably no use at all but happy to pitch in:-)

5mg starts today, bringing jab day forward a day as the edge is wearing off a bit after my 4 weeks on 2.5.

QueenOfHiraeth · 18/07/2024 08:24

We are a wonderful band of women aren't we? This is what I love about MN, behind the screen names we are such a wide range of people and talents and you can guarantee that there'll be loads more who haven't posted and would say "I'm JUST a mum", etc would also have very useful knowledge, skills and views.

Its the morning after my first 7.5 so I am waiting with eager anticipation to see if anything happens!

KrankyKumquat · 18/07/2024 08:28

@QueenOfHiraeth
I'm not even a mum 😂

guestusername · 18/07/2024 08:32

I can do the data protection side of things 😀

Fromthesidelines · 18/07/2024 08:51

Researcher here (not biomedical) but can undertake quantative and qualitative primary and secondary research, literature reviews etc to support marketing, product development and customer information and messaging.

ObsidianTree · 18/07/2024 08:51

Guys, I'm going to attempt to wait to do a new thread until we are well into page 40. As we tend to leave the thread unfinished once there is a new thread. If I miss it and the thread fills up, you will find the new thread in the injectable weight loss forum!

Been away from the threads for a bit. I had my carpul tunnel op last Wednesday so Ive been feeling sorry for myself lol.

I'm on week 4 of 7.5mg and losing but not nearly as much as some people. It's quite frustrating when I see on here huge losses and I'm stuck at half a pound to a pound a week.

I'm off work too and only half a functioning adult so exercise is practically zero so I should be grateful I'm losing anything at all.

Thinking I should stick to 7.5mg while I'm recovering and not move up.

Are there any family chemist discount codes floating around before I order?

Congrats to everyone on their losses!

pinktransit · 18/07/2024 09:13

Thursday weigh in/jab day/measurements day

Measurements should be next week, but I'm away so will do it early.

SW: 12.6.6
CW: 10.5.2
IGW: 10.0.0

Only 12oz off this week, but I haven't been great with eating enough and certainly not drinking enough water. Plenty of wine though...

Measurements are good, another few inches off this month.

Starting measurements:
W: 36"
H: 42.5"
B: 41"
T: 24"

Current measurements:
W: 31"
H: 38"
B: 38"
T: 21.5"

Sizing: I was in a 14, convincing myself that it was snug but not really that tight... definitely heading for a 16 though. The lovely Kevlar motorbike jeans that my boyfriend bought me for Christmas were a 16 (the 14 had to be returned) and I believed that they just came up in a small size. 🙄
Currently wearing comfortable size 12 jeans.
And most of my jumpers are too big.

NCfor24 · 18/07/2024 09:23

I'm so in awe of how talented a group of women you all are!
I think it makes sense though, that as a collective we care about what we are putting into our bodies, we want to do it safely and look after ourselves, and we want others to proceed with caution too.
Everyone's accomplishments also confirm that we didn't get fat because we're lazy and stupid! I've often thought to myself I'm clever enough, work hard, can secure a good job etc, so why the hell can't I just focus enough to lose weight?!
Proof that there is far more at play than a lack of self discipline!
Anyway I'm totally here for the cooperative - not sure what I'll contribute, but here for it! 🤣

Summerheels · 18/07/2024 09:32

Loving the business chat my ADHD Brain was firing away reading it all.

I have joined the one stone down club whoop! I’m SO pleased after 5 weeks. I stalled last week then did about 3mg using the bonus dose and I’ve lost 3lbs already this week. Weigh in day is Sunday for me but I track everyday using my app linked to scales as it’s good to see the flux. I’m away this weekend with lots of driving & sitting down so have “banked” some extra exercise already this morning completing my first trail run with the dog for a couple of years, then a cycle & sea dip so that’s my mini Triathlon done before 9am! This drug truly is life changing I’ve had a 85% drop in joint pain & brain fog (I’m early 50s) despite HRT for 6yrs- the last 3yrs have been horrid with perimenopause symptoms. Can I bank this feeling and stay on it forever.
