Continuing Mounjaro...part 16

Please note: Mounjaro will only be be prescribed initially if your BMI is above 30. If you have additional health conditions you can get the medication with a BMI 27. (Prediabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or heart problems)

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after that a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Some people find that they don't need to go up a pen dose each month if the current pen dosage is working well for them. If you are unsure when to go up, speak to your prescriber.

8 - If you are having bad side effects after titrating up or you are struggling to eat your calories each day, your dose may be too high so should consider lowering your dose. Speak to your prescriber if unsure.

9 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

10 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

11 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
https://medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

12 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss.

Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein

https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

13 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), psylum husks(fibre for constipation), electrolytes.

14 - Drink lots of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Try and drink at least 2ltrs a day.

15 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

16 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

17 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

18 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

I got a massive 1 litre water bottle for my clear whey like this one https://www.dunelm.com/product/1l-plastic-water-bottle-erwin-leaf-1000221879?defaultSkuId=30833701&branchCode=0345&utmsource=google&utmmmedium=cpc&utmcampaign=CookkFood+Storage-PMax%5BGOO-LIA-COOK-STORAGE%5D&gaddsource=1&gbraid=0AAAAADGqyX2BFyix7PCliaMP9mFky9o5&gclid=CjwKCAjwqMO0BhA8EiwAFTLgILHpT1GBlLr-e2mcUVXmUnr3BS3drr2h9Ug1zpkH6T7VCa03E-FE3xoCU1QQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds and I us

I use one of those hand held milk frothers to blend it. It doesn't blend perfectly but does all dissolve within a minute or so after adding ice cubes. Definitely dilute it more than the recommended. I'm mostly doing 1 litre per serving.

I've also noticed quite a bit of hair loss. I wouldn't mind so much if the weight loss matched up.

I already take biotin and collagen capsules and have done for about 12 months. Protein levels are good. So I've just ordered some electrolytes and collagen powder from will powders so see if that helps stop the hair loss and increase the weight loss.

Also took my first 7.5 just now and praying this isn't the time I get the gastro issues

Sorry if this has already been posted. It's an episode of Diary of a CEO with guest Dr Tyna Moore. She is a certified Naturopathic and Chiropractic physician and expert in holistic regenerative medicine. She is also the host of ‘The Dr Tyna Show’ Podcast and founder of the ‘Ozempic Uncovered’ course about the benefits of the drug.

This episode is particularly interesting as she talks about effects of weight loss meds on other conditions, how she used them on herself and her patients (not to lose weight), and interesting information regards dosing.

I think anyone on this thread would find it very interesting, particularly those with other conditions they feel are being helped by MJ.

Warning, it is 2 hours long!

Apologies I'm not around much at the moment, I'm back in and the reception is really shit. They're struggling with what antib's to give me, so looks like it may be a longer spell this time.

But a big welcome to all the newbies, and huge congrats to all the losers. 🎉

Hi all. I haven’t posted since starting 5 weeks ago.

I’ve lost 1st 3lb so far and I’m delighted with that.

Just posting to say I only just told my partner about MJ. He didn’t say much but he looked surprised and then concerned.

Now I wish I hadn’t told him! I feel kind of … exposed.

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 12/07/2024 21:35

@MelissaLouRocks thanks for this. I have watched the Johann Hari one and would recommend if you haven’t seen it.

montysma1 · 12/07/2024 22:00

@ObsidianTree The only thing about creatine is that it holds a lot of water in the muscles ( hubby is a conditioning coach for high level athletes) so it would defo interfere with your downward progess numbers.

Just be aware if the numbers are not dropping and if this would de motivate you or put you off your stride.

It took me 2 months to tell my husband and I felt extremely exposed and opened up for judgement but I think the more I’ve dropped it into conversation and I think he done a bit of his own research I’m so glad I did tell him! He’s so understanding now and I think after 10 years of watching me struggle with my weight he’s just happy I’ve tried something that works

30not13 · 12/07/2024 22:47

@MelissaLouRocks sending you a big bosie x

RagzRebooted · 12/07/2024 23:18

@MelissaLouRocks nooo! So sorry you're incarcerated again, I hope there won't be any flying fruit shenanigans this time (okay, I'm lying, I loved that anecdote!). Hope you feel better soon.
@GlueNoGlue that was the first NSV I posted on these threads, the delight in being able to see my own vulva again!

Regarding the clear whey stuff, I tried the second flavour I ordered (cloudy lemonade) a few days ago, in the hope it was just the last flavour (pink grapefruit) I didn't like, but unfortunately I just can't stand them. They seem to have a weird smell that makes me feel nauseous and a strange mouth-feel. Luckily my teens will drink them, so they won't be totally wasted.
I've got unflavoured collagen powder and I'm fine with that, I add it to black coffee and don't even notice it.

Buffypaws · 12/07/2024 23:42

@Tusktusk my partner is weird about it too. I didn’t tell him for quite a while but I think he eventually noticed. He definitely thinks less of me. nosy prick. Some people very much don’t get it.

ObsidianTree · 13/07/2024 06:46

@MelissaLouRocks sorry you're back in hospital. Hope it's a short stay. How are you getting on?

@Tusktusk well done for your losses. Hopefully your partner will go do some of his own research and will be more supportive soon. I think sometimes the news around these types of drugs can be quite negative and some people might just read the headlines and form negative opinions without looking into it. So I guess if he sees headlines like they make you go blind etc, then that might cause concern etc. I told my husband as soon as I ordered and he's been supportive. I'm now my lowest weight in about 11 years and my husband is happy for me. Especially after seeing the struggles to lose weight for years.

@Buffypaws hopefully your partner comes around when he sees your good progress.

@montysma1 thanks. I have some in cupboard as I got it cheap on Myprotein, but haven't started it yet. Might just give it to my husband!

I’m so tired. Is anyone else deathly tired?
my hair is coming out in big clumps too now 😭
also just saw a post on how great creatine is. Anyone taking it?

Yeah I'm so tired most of the time. I'm hitting all my protein, fluid and electrolyte targets as advised but still feel so physically weak and tired. I Skipped my jab for a week and went away from few days to Cornwall and ate a bit of whatever I fancied when I was there and I felt so much more energised during that time so I think it's just the fact that I'm constantly in a calorie deficit whilst on MJ and this obviously takes it out of me.

Loving everyone's Nsv's

ObsidianTree · 13/07/2024 07:01

Weight day for me today. 4lbs down this week! Sitting at 13st exactly. So close to the 12s!

I am close to the weight I was when I got pregnant with my first born over 11 years ago! I think I was about 12st 4lbs when I met my husband about 13 years ago. When I get below that I'll be at a weight my husband would never have seen me at! Love setting myself these little goals and actually achieve them!

My BMI is currently about 27.7 ish

Start weight Jan 17st 6lbs
Start weight MJ Feb 16st 3lbs
Current weight 13st
Total loss since Jan 4st 6lbs
Total loss MJ 3st 3lbs

Yippee, just stepped on the scales and it shows 12st 5lb so I'm officially, exactly 1 stone down after 9 weeks! I know my losses are slow but I definitely would still be 13st 5lb (or more) if I hadn't started Mounjaro. I'm surprised as yesterday I had a "fuck it" moment and had some chocolate and a Pina Colada 😆 I was thinking of coming clean about being on the meds to maybe one or two people but the posts above are making me think twice. I'm thinking I may have to have my deliveries sent to my mums after my last order going missing and Royal Mail saying they only deliver to the building, not the recipients door. Then I can imagine questions about what's in the package

Buffypaws · 13/07/2024 07:11

Amazing work guys!

Beeble21 · 13/07/2024 07:28

Good Morning 😊
I had my first 5mg yesterday. So far no side effects other than usual cold feeling.
After reading through some posts last night I realised I’m quite happy to be a slower loser as it may mean I can be on this for longer and to me the longer the better as it will mean more chance of keeping it off maybe?
I’ve done 5 weeks and lost 7.4lbs. I do weight train alongside.
Congratulations to everyone on here. We are doing something amazing together.
I have told a select few people. Everyone supportive so far.
I know this is totally personal but I would encourage anyone to at least tell their partner. More for the fact of in case there is a medical emergency so they can inform what meds you are on.
In saying that I totally understand and support anyone who wishes not to tell anyone too.

MounjaroMunchie · 13/07/2024 07:40

Morning losers!

My second official weigh-in today, and it's 2.2lb so 7.4lb in total over 2 weeks. And I've dropped down to the next stone bracket.

SW 12st 7.0lb
CW 11st 13.6lb
GW 11st 3.5lb (interim, 10% loss)

I did my third 2.5mg jab on Thursday evening and still not feeling much in the way of suppression or side effects, but my thinking about food is much clearer and I've found it easy to make good choices. I'm aware this is a loading dose, so I'm genuinely looking forward to moving up to 5mg and seeing what happens, good or bad.

My husband knows I'm on Mounjaro and has been supportive, but I haven't told anyone else yet and possibly won't - we'll see.

Callmejudith · 13/07/2024 08:38

I’ve got some creatine in the cupboard too and I do a lot of heavy strength training so I think I might start taking it. I go on clothes rather than weight so won’t be bothered about the water retention keeping the numbers up

NCfor24 · 13/07/2024 08:48

I think it is a shame when people's partners aren't supportive but I suspect there could be a couple of things at play. The first is obviously the medical side and the unknown re side effects, long term health impact and the overall "is it safe?" concern, which is all good and caring. But then the other thing is that there's an element of the unknown...who are you when you're slim? Does it change the dynamic? If you look better and therefore feel happier and more confident, what does that mean for your partner and your relationship?
In my relationship the fact I'm not longer drinking is definitely changing things. We've generally indulged together but DH doesn't have an off switch. He's been a binge drinker since day one and it's genuinely been a problem since then. Our biggest fall outs have always been alcohol related. I've given up drink every now and then for diet/health/to prove I can reasons, and whilst he has managed dry January he has literally had a drink on 1st Feb as soon as he could!
He bought 'our usual' 2 bottles of wine the other night. He'd finished his bottle and I was on glass one still...and that's habit, I don't think I was enjoying it. DH then finished my wine. So we go to bed and he's had 1¾ bottles of wine and I'm not even tipsy. We are on totally different levels and I am not interested in his advances at all.
His drinking is bothering me more and more (it always has, he does need help, he is in denial) and I think we are going to get to a point where his choices make or break us. At this point my diet/weight loss and MJ use will be to blame because I won't be fun anymore.
So anyway, regards the partner issue and support, I think weight loss and resultant confidence and self belief can threaten relationships, and I do think an element of some partners lack of support is fear of how it will impact them.
Despite this, we all owe it to ourselves to make ourselves happy and healthy and the best we can be...and my children are my biggest motivator anyway.

guestusername · 13/07/2024 08:49

Morning all. I’ve decided to move my weigh day to Saturday. 1.5lb for me this week which I was a little disappointed with until I remembered that the first part of this week was not good food wise but I managed to claw it back.

SW 14.12
CW 13.2.5

Immediate next target is the 12’s. Then it’s 12.12 which is my target by the end of this month 🤞🤞

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 13/07/2024 09:03

@NCfor24 so many truths and a lot of self-awareness there.
I have been divorced for many years now but looking back on the break down of the relationship, I can see that much of it was to do with me changing (children, new career etc) and that made him look at his choices and he didn’t like himself so it became my fault.

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 13/07/2024 09:05

@guestusername amazing!! Can’t wait for 12s! (Just gotta see 14s and 13s first😂😂)
