Thought id start a thread for anyone starting in July given we are almost there. I've just ordered tonight with Voy, hoping I get approved and will be able to start next week.

I'm a little apprehensive as some of my eating habits are emotionally driven not hunger! So I'm going to need to find some will power too. That's why I've gone with a company that provides support as well as just medication.

Anyone fancy joining along?

My starting weight is 18st 1lb and I'm 5ft 5 so I've ALOT to loose.

Has anyone done their 2nd order with Zava? Did it take longer to arrive? I can't order until Friday, I'll take my 4th dose Thursday so fingers crossed it arrives by the following Thursday!

Hi

hoping it’s ok to join you all here.
I took the plunge, ordered and had my first Mounjaro jab today (I hope, I followed the instructions but I’m not convinced it did actually go in if that makes sense!)

I am 54 , 5 ft 4, currently 13 stone which is the heaviest I have been in my entire life. Spent most of my adult life weighing between 11 and 11 1/2 stones until 4 years ago when my GP changed my contraceptive pill (their policy was to change brands at age 50) and my weight rocketed.
I cook from scratch, don’t have a sweet tooth but like a nice red wine (and have a weakness for crisps).
Im also on HRT.
married, childless (simply didn’t happen but have come to terms with that long ago)

Ive tried everything over the last 4 years, intermittent fasting, weight watchers, 30 day shred and so on. Absolutely no joy. I’ve never been thin - I was a fat child, a fat teenager and a stocky adult. I exercise lots though (60 minutes body pump, step or spin per day) and could (until last year) run a 10k in under an hour so in my 30s I finally accepted I was never going to be “normal” weight but as long as I was fit I could live with it. My GP has never accepted my stance, I’ve been accused of lying about my exercise as it’s “not possible” for someone to exercise as much as I do and still be obese :(

so, I’m rambling. I’m ashamed, disgusted and mortified about my weight and shape. I haven’t told a soul I’m doing Mounjaro. I know I will be judged so I can’t tell anyone but I do need a friendly space to chat and also to be accountable so I’ve joined this merry group.

whilst my GP tells me my ideal weight is 8 stone and that I should aim for 10% below I’ve never considered that realistic. In my 20s I got down to 8.5 stones by not eating at all, drinking water and black coffee only but after 6 months couldn’t sustain it. My intermediate goal is 11.5 stones. (Most of my wardrobe would fit me at this stage) but I’d love to get to 9.5 eventually.

sorry, that was long…..

Welcome! We are all in the same boat, we are here day and night for support egging each other on and generally hoping for the best!

Your GP sounds awful. I'd get a new one!

Hopefully you don't suffer any side effects many of us day 2 was hardest with fatigue.

Good luck! 😉

I ordered mine late on Friday night, it was approved over the weekend and I received it on Tuesday morning

yajustneverknow · 24/07/2024 18:56

Does anyone plan to go up to 7.5mg after 5mg? I was thinking of saving my bonus 2.5mg dose for a bonus 7.5mg bonus dose

Lumirubin · 24/07/2024 19:27

@yajustneverknow saving it until after you've used your 5mg pen? I'm pretty sure once you pierce the pen for the first time I only had 30 days shelf life, so I don't think you'd be able to. As for moving up, I'm not sure yet. Getting very strong suppression from the 5mg and having to force food in, so if it stays like this I'll probably stay on the 5mg. But because I'm with Voy and it costs the same regardless of dose, I'm inclined to go up just to get my money's worth and maximum effect!

OP posts:
WeepingInASunlitRoom · 24/07/2024 19:41

Yes, once you've started a pen you only have 30 days to use it. I keep eyeing mine as there is clearly going to be a lot of medication left in there after my fourth jab but I've reordered a second 2.5mg pen for next month so I don't know about trying to get the bonus dose unless I can be sure it's another 2.5mg dose and not more. Despite my dissatisfaction with how slowly my scales are moving, I cannot take any more fatigue than I'm already experiencing so I don't dare increase yet.

Lumirubin · 24/07/2024 20:01

Has anyone had any local site redness? I have from my first 5mg jab, it's itchy! But doesn't seem to be spreading. I've attached a pic, ignore my flab, clearly that's why I'm here 😂

You could be allergic to the needle? If so, taking piriton before injecting can help.

Lumirubin · 24/07/2024 20:55

Same needles as came with my 2.5mg pen, so I think it's more likely that the stronger dose of medication has done it. I did a quick Dr Google (so bad I know, I tell people not to do this all the time at work!) and it says 1 in 10 have a local site reaction and like you said to take piriton. So feeling less worried about it! I'll just avoid that spot for a few weeks. Plenty of soft spots to choose from after all!

Hello everyone.

first time MN user here so hope you don’t mind me joining.

thinking to start Mounjaro but a little nervous. Found online chemist4u for £135 which seems very cheap compared to other places. Anyone ordered of here before? Is it legit?

thank you x

Lumirubin · 24/07/2024 22:18

Welcome @PCOSmumma I haven't ordered from them, but I think there is a list somewhere on a main mounjaro thread that lists all the legit suppliers. You can often get a good deal for your first month with some of the more well known companies if that'll make you feel a bit safer? I use voy, this code will get you it for £144 plus you get coaching which has been really useful for me https://joinvoy.com/r/U-z3WNcM9wp5

Quite alot of people in the thread use zava, I'm sure one of them will pop you a code too :)

Thanks for replying !

the only issue with voy is apparently the prices get really high after the 2.5mg dose? I’d have to double check but thanks for that.

hows the redness? Has it calmed down yet? How did you find the 2.5m and did you lose any weight with it? Sorry for all the questions x

User364837 · 24/07/2024 23:20

I use Zava and have been happy with it, about £122 with the code and you’re not tied in to a subscription
code is REF3D2BD

User364837 · 24/07/2024 23:22

I didn’t have a big whoosh the first week or two like some but have lost about 6lbs in 3 wks which I’m happy with. So far I haven’t been calorie counting as it’s a bit of a trigger for me (binge eating tendencies 🙄)
seems to affect everyone differentky but any gastro side effects I’ve had so far have been short lived

PCOSmumma · 24/07/2024 23:59

@User364837
ill look into zava, hoping to order it next week and get started asap. Did they ask for pictures and how long did they take to dispatch etc?

im a bit worried I won’t have an appetite and End up not eating anything/much at all. Just really need to lose a few stone lol how yoj feeling overall energy wise? Does it make you feel anxious? As I suffer with mild anxiety so hoping it doesn’t trigger that

MounjaroMunchie · 25/07/2024 07:02

Morning all. Just done the bonus dose from my 2.5mg pen, and managed to get 0.8ml out using an insulin syringe, so I think that's 3.75mg? I'm a bit nervous about going up to 5mg next week, so wanted whatever I could get out of the pen to try and bridge that dose doubling.

Anyway, getting it out and injecting with an insulin syringe was absolutely fine. In fact, I found it a bit easier to inject than using the pen, I've got small hands 😂

Yes had to do photos the first time I ordered - feet on the scales and side body view I think it was.
it took a few days for them to approve and dispatch. I notii i card some people have found their dispatch a bit slow recently, my second pen just arrived and think it took about 3 days so not bad but other providers might be faster. Although you can store in the fridge until you need it. It really depends what your priorities are and I found them best on price.

I’ve not lost my appetite and not had to force myself to eat, I know some have reported this. Energy wise for me it’s had an overall positive affect but I know fatigue can be an issue for some. I think you won’t know til you try but most side effects seem to pass as the days since the jab go on.

NewLifter · 25/07/2024 07:43

I can't recommend Zava so I'm not sharing my code. They are definitely slow and other places seem to pack the pen better. Lots of people have received a warm pen. I'm going to stick with them for now because it's easier than swapping but I wish I had started with somewhere else!

In other news, I also just took my bonus dose from an insulin syringe. Not impressed with my syringes, the needle bent when drawing up, but it administered ok. I had my doubts that it went in, but my leg was dry and and the syringe was empty - the liquid had to go somewhere 😂

I 'only' got 0.76ml, I assume because I primed properly every week. So 3.12mg.

This last week has been weird for me - suppression wasn't great at the start but the last few days have been good - weird! So I was too afraid to jump up to 5mg today, hence using the 'bonus dose'.

Have a great day everyone 😍

Lumirubin · 25/07/2024 07:51

@PCOSmumma voy is £220 a month regardless of dose if you don't manage to get anyone to use your discount code, £114 if you do. So it's not cheap. But I like the reliability. I don't have to be reapproved every month, my coach just asked what dose I wanted and she sorted dispatch. I can WhatsApp her with any problems/symptoms and she helps so I've quite liked that. I also had a pen that arrived late over a weekend (royal mail problem) so was warm. Emailed customer service and they dispatched a new one straight away which I thought was good customer service.

Yeah my rash has gone this morning :) it's not made me feel anxious, if anything the opposite, but that's probably because it's made me feel in control of my diet for the first time in year and I get anxious with loss of control. I've been a bit fatigued, but that improved when I started taking protein shakes. Hope that's helped.

Bonus doses sound good! I didn't get the bonus dose out of my first one (forgot to bring an insulin syringe home from work!) but I'm going to do it from my 5mg pen, seems too much to be wasting!

Hi all can I join please? Ordering first 2.5 pen next week once family who are visiting have gone home 😂

Thinking of using Med Express? Great reading all of your experiences so far!

KeepinOn · 25/07/2024 08:13

Last 2.5ml dose is due tonight, and today is payday, so I've ordered the 5ml pen this morning. My partner has suddenly noticed the loss in my looks, and some of my trousers are getting very loose, so something is happening. :) I'll have my regular Friday morning weigh-in, and I'll wait patiently to start the next pen next Thursday. I've not had any severe reactions to the 2.5ml dose, and I've not had much hunger suppression since the first week. But I'm following the schedule carefully, and I'll start the next pen on Thursday next week.

I left Voy and went with Oxford Online Pharmacy. I'll report back on the delivery experience.

gimmemounjaro · 25/07/2024 08:19

@Whereisthewine
I used MedExpress and they were very efficient, I think I ordered on Friday and received the parcel on Tuesday.

PCOSmumma · 25/07/2024 09:03

ill have to search around, thanks for all the recommendations. Would anyone like to explain how to get an extra dose from the pens? I don’t seem to understand, sorry if I sound silly! Also what does it mean when they say you have to prime?

thanks x

SilenceInside · 25/07/2024 09:17

@PCOSmumma Priming is explained in the instruction leaflet that comes with the pen. It involves pushing a small amount of the liquid out of the pen to make sure there are no air bubbles and that it's working correctly, before injecting the actual dose.

As far as I can understand it, people are getting the remaining liquid out of the pen by either forcing the twisting action once it's got to the end of the normal range, or by using separate needles to get the remaining liquid out. Not something I have done myself and I'm not going to try to, for me.

WeAllHaveWings · 25/07/2024 09:19

@PCOSmumma After 4 doses your pen will look something like attached picture. With some medication left in the pen. If your pen refrigerated was refrigerated until your first dose on day 1 you can potentially use this medication for a 5th/bonus dose on day 29 (so within the 30 day from first use guidelines).

There are two ways to do this -

The hard twist

The pen will refuse to twist, if you force it you will hear a snap and can turn to 1. Sometimes this is difficult and you might need pliers. Sometimes it doesn't work. You will need a 5th needle to do it. You might get slightly less than a full dose with this method.

Using an insulin syringe

If you can't get out using the hard twist, or prefer to see how much is extracted (0.6ml is a full dose, you might get slightly more and can use this as a step up to your next dose if you choose) you can use a 1ML insulin needle inserted into the red seal to extract the liquid. Buy insulin syringes off a medical supplier (not Amazon). There are links to suggested suppliers on the opening post of the main MJ thread.

Priming

Priming is the step you do before each injection to remove bubbles and check your needle is working. Check your instructions that came with your MJ pen - it explains moving the dose selector 2 clicks to the longer line and priming. Video below including the priming step.
