Mounjaro July 2024

Lumirubin · 20/06/2024 19:20

Thought id start a thread for anyone starting in July given we are almost there. I've just ordered tonight with Voy, hoping I get approved and will be able to start next week.

I'm a little apprehensive as some of my eating habits are emotionally driven not hunger! So I'm going to need to find some will power too. That's why I've gone with a company that provides support as well as just medication.

Anyone fancy joining along?

My starting weight is 18st 1lb and I'm 5ft 5 so I've ALOT to loose.

New user here. Pen arrived today a day earlier than expected. Bit the bullet and injected straight after lunch (it was a reasonably healthy turkey salad sandwich but kind of thought about it like my Last Supper!)

CW 83kg/13 stone
BMI 30.5
GW 68kg/10st 10lb

Waist 94cm (Goal 82cm)

Hoping for a comfortable size 14 dress size by the autumn.

I’ve been advised by doctor to lose weight due to early signs of Fatty liver. (18 months ago 😳)

No idea how this is going to pan out but I’ve listened to reliable info like the Zoe podcast and feel it’s worth a shot (pun intended!).

I am not a particularly unhealthy eater but my downfall is too much bread, cheese, chocolate and red wine. I’ve realised that because I rarely eat bad things in large quantities I am kidding myself that the frequent small doses don’t have an effect.

I haven’t told my husband yet.

We’re off on holiday in about 10 days. It’s a nice all-inclusive. I had toyed with not starting till we got back but there’s always an excuse, isn’t there? And actually, all-inclusive buffets mean I can choose small amounts of healthy stuff so I am going to think of it as my money’s worth in terms of range and variety of choices rather than quantity. I don’t tend to go OTT on the free booze anyway as we have DS (8) to think about.

I guess I might not even feel any effects before we go anyway. Am going to read back through the thread to see how many of you noticed an effect straight away.

I do love food though, I get a lot of pleasure from the taste of delicious things, so am hoping I don’t miss that too much.

HotCrossBunplease · 23/07/2024 14:42

PS I fully recognise the irony of my username! It’s a name change, I am a long-time Mumsnetter. It’s actually what DS always asks for as a snack, I rarely eat them. He’s skinny and always moving so I don’t have any problem with that.

WeepingInASunlitRoom · 23/07/2024 15:21

A nice all-inclusive is perfect @hotcrossbunplease! I'm looking forward to my holiday as I can control my portion size and enjoy the lovely fresh fruits and salads without having to prepare anything myself!

KeepinOn · 23/07/2024 16:35

I don't tend to overeat when on holiday in a hot location, so just enjoy the bountiful fresh fruit and veg that you haven't had to prepare yourself!

girljulian · 23/07/2024 21:41

Halfway through my fourth week on 2.5mg. I went on a big walking trip over the weekend with my friends: 25k steps every day from Thursday to Saturday, could hardly manage to eat anything -- and hadn't lost anything when I got back! I know it's probably water retention from muscle swelling (also am due my period tomorrow) but c'mon body!

I've lost 8lbs so far in 3.5 weeks, which is very nice but it's not radically more than I'd have lost without Mounjaro.

CatTraveler · 24/07/2024 08:11

I am coming to the end of my second week on 2.5mg (inject Friday morning) and I am finding my food supression is much lighter than last week, I am noteably hungry at times and eating more. However I do think the food noise is less and I am still eatting much less than before.

Think the move to 5mg cant come quick enough for me.

TheBiscuitStrikesBack · 24/07/2024 08:31

First injection done!!

I don’t want to tell my husband I’m doing this as I know he won’t be supportive. Has anyone been in a similar position? Did you tell him? How did he take it?

Don’t know how to hide the pen in the fridge 🤣

TheBiscuitStrikesBack · 24/07/2024 08:33

Also, is everyone taking measurements as well as weight?

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 24/07/2024 08:50

I haven't told a
Bean. My
Inj is openly on the top shelf of our second fridge. (Just drinks) next to the suppositories lol
(They are also mine). He won't notice. His eyes will be on the beer.

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 24/07/2024 08:51

I take a waist
And Hip Measure but that's
All.

yajustneverknow · 24/07/2024 08:59

@TheBiscuitStrikesBack I'm also not telling dh and I've managed to hide my pen in the fridge, by buying a roll of ready made pastry and rolling it up in that and putting it back in the pastry box, he'll never ever touch that, neither will anyone else.

thinkfast · 24/07/2024 09:02

I'm feeling really frustrated.

I had a great first week - lost 11lb, but appreciate much of that was water.

My second week comes to an end on Friday and so far I've lost 1lb this week. I've not felt hungry or deprived, but I really feel I should've lost more, considering what I've been eating compared to pre- MJ. Will have to be really, really careful what I eat today and tomorrow to try to squeeze a bit more weight loss this week.

It doesn’t have to be kept in the fridge after it’s been opened.

I’ve read / seen conflicting things on this, but I did see in the voy injection video that it didn’t need to be… but that is conflict to what the prescription sticker on the box said. Hmm.

SilenceInside · 24/07/2024 09:55

@thinkfast if you think of 12lbs as an amount lost over two weeks, that's incredible. If you had only weighed in at the end of the second week you'd have not known about how the weight was lost, only that you had lost an average of 6lbs a week. Which is amazing. A loss of 1kg/2lbs a week is what most diets aim for, so that or higher is good progress!

Lumirubin · 24/07/2024 10:15

Can't remember who said it to tag because I had a fair few posts to catch up on, but I put on 2lbs overnight at the weekend. I tried to not let it get to me, knew I was due on and hoping it was water weight. Weighed today and I've lost that 2lbs plus another 3! So don't let the little fluctuations bother you!

I took my 5mg on Sunday and my symptoms have been absolutely fine! I was so worried after having a dodgy tummy occasionally on the 2.5mg. Even went out for dinner on Monday and didn't feel poorly after. The suppression is strong! Although maybe a little too strong, work was crazy yesterday and 10 hours into my 12 hour shift I realised all id had all day was a coffee and a cereal bar! Normally id have been flagging at that point, but I felt fine because I hadn't even thought about hunger

Stats now
SW 18st 1lb
CW 16st 7lb
Total lost 1st 8lbs
Which according to my Voy app is 8.7% of my body weight. I'm happy with that in 4.5 weeks

I think you have to try really hard not to get hung up on this, 12lb in 2 weeks is really good and I bet you've never lost 12lbs with such minimal effort before! I haven't really tracked how much I've lost each week, just the total. I think it is a bit frustrating to only be losing 1-2lb a week when you are eating very little and it's what you are used to losing on a normal diet etc but it is no effort at all to be losing this weight, that's the way I see it. 1-2lb a week with no agonising over food choices, no feeling deprived is much better than slaving over syns and ww points, wondering when you can have the next treat. 1-2lbs a week is almost a guarantee with this so think of it that way rather than a way to get a massive amount of weight off very quickly

thinkfast · 24/07/2024 10:50

Thanks very much. Your comments are really helpful. I just have a vast amount of weight to lose. I expect it to take at least a year, if not two, so seeing the weight drop on the scales is immensely helpful and inspiring. Fingers crossed for a bit more off over the next few days!

Lumirubin · 24/07/2024 10:59

@thinkfast 12lbs in 2 weeks is an amazing weight loss! I think the minimal effort is what I'm focusing on too, a diet has never felt this easy!

SilenceInside · 24/07/2024 11:03

@thinkfast I was a similar starting weight as you, actually a few pounds higher, so I know exactly what you mean and how you feel. It is a long term process - I'm trying to focus only on my first few interim goals and not think about the longer term too much.

thinkfast · 24/07/2024 11:06

Thank you! I think I need to create a series of mini-goals for myself. Something that I think I can realistically achieve every 1-2 months.

Lumirubin · 24/07/2024 11:10

@thinkfast I'm doing mini goals. My first one is to loose the equivalent of my 2 year old before I go on holiday in September. She weighs 2st 3lbs. Feels like a real life target I can aim for, because man she feels heavy when I carry her, so if I can tell myself my body doesn't have to carry that much weight around anymore that's got to be a huge achievement :)

Mounjarorookie · 24/07/2024 11:10

Hi

hoping it’s ok to join you all here.
I took the plunge, ordered and had my first Mounjaro jab today (I hope, I followed the instructions but I’m not convinced it did actually go in if that makes sense!)

I am 54 , 5 ft 4, currently 13 stone which is the heaviest I have been in my entire life. Spent most of my adult life weighing between 11 and 11 1/2 stones until 4 years ago when my GP changed my contraceptive pill (their policy was to change brands at age 50) and my weight rocketed.
I cook from scratch, don’t have a sweet tooth but like a nice red wine (and have a weakness for crisps).
Im also on HRT.
married, childless (simply didn’t happen but have come to terms with that long ago)

Ive tried everything over the last 4 years, intermittent fasting, weight watchers, 30 day shred and so on. Absolutely no joy. I’ve never been thin - I was a fat child, a fat teenager and a stocky adult. I exercise lots though (60 minutes body pump, step or spin per day) and could (until last year) run a 10k in under an hour so in my 30s I finally accepted I was never going to be “normal” weight but as long as I was fit I could live with it. My GP has never accepted my stance, I’ve been accused of lying about my exercise as it’s “not possible” for someone to exercise as much as I do and still be obese :(

so, I’m rambling. I’m ashamed, disgusted and mortified about my weight and shape. I haven’t told a soul I’m doing Mounjaro. I know I will be judged so I can’t tell anyone but I do need a friendly space to chat and also to be accountable so I’ve joined this merry group.

whilst my GP tells me my ideal weight is 8 stone and that I should aim for 10% below I’ve never considered that realistic. In my 20s I got down to 8.5 stones by not eating at all, drinking water and black coffee only but after 6 months couldn’t sustain it. My intermediate goal is 11.5 stones. (Most of my wardrobe would fit me at this stage) but I’d love to get to 9.5 eventually.

sorry, that was long…..

SilenceInside · 24/07/2024 11:18

@Mounjarorookie hi! Just wanted to say that your GP sounds a bit full on, 8 stone at your height would be a BMI at the bottom end of the healthy weight range and 10% less than that would be into the underweight category!

Lumirubin · 24/07/2024 11:48

Welcome @Mounjarorookie this is definitely a safe space. I agree with silence, your GP does sound very full on! I have massive issues with BMI, it's not a one size fits all approach. I for one would look horrific if I was my ideal body weight per BMI. Once I get to 13 stone I start looking gaunt, which seems crazy for 5ft 5! So I'm not aiming for lower than 13
