Thought id start a thread for anyone starting in July given we are almost there. I've just ordered tonight with Voy, hoping I get approved and will be able to start next week.

I'm a little apprehensive as some of my eating habits are emotionally driven not hunger! So I'm going to need to find some will power too. That's why I've gone with a company that provides support as well as just medication.

Anyone fancy joining along?

My starting weight is 18st 1lb and I'm 5ft 5 so I've ALOT to loose.

Is anyone doing the bonus dose? I hadn't planned to as I didn't want to mess around with insulin needles, however, Asda have mistakenly sent me a box of extra MJ needles which means I could take it exactly the same as all the other doses. I'm only on Week 2 anyway right now. I don't feel confident to judge how much is in the bonus dose though so would have to feel very sure I knew what I was doing.

I will be for sure. I bought some insulin needles. It reduces the costs quite a lot over time if you are using it.

Yes I absolutely will be! I got 7 needles with my pen so will try and just do as a normal dose

WeepingInASunlitRoom · 19/07/2024 13:36

What I like about it is the chance to go up a bit slower - not jump from 2.5mg to 5mg but to have a halfway dose in between. I suppose I could do that with a 5mg pen though and just not do a full dose the first week. I feel so anxious about going up!

CLEO42 · 19/07/2024 13:40

Hi
i’m just coming to the end of week 1 but it’s been a weird week for food because I had Covid and major carb cravings, so I’ve written off any expectations for this week.

I’ve also got a surprise period. I’m on HRT and went 9 months with no period then have had a couple of spotting episodes after starting testosterone but this is a proper period with normal bleeding and uterine cramps. I’m seeing my consultant next week to check this all out so will also tell her about the MJ.

I get mine from Voy and have just called up (lovely customer service by the way) to change my delivery date as we’ll be on holiday. I’ve got spare needles so am hoping to use my bonus dose whilst I’m away. Has anyone done this yet?

Don’t think it’s just about the needle, I think some people have used the insulin needle method because you have to twist the pen very firmly, sometimes with pliers, to get out the extra.

Yes, I see - I am such a rule follower I probably won't do it, honestly. It was getting an extra box of needles that made me think I might, but I will most likely stick to the instructions.

User364837 · 19/07/2024 14:06

perhaps give it a twist and see if it comes out normally but just didn’t want you to be banking on it then not be able to get it out. I don’t own pliers, I’m debating whether to faff about with insulin needles or not

diian · 19/07/2024 16:23

I tried to use the bonus dose tonight. Gave it a hard twist and turned it all the way to 1, injected and the plunger did not push the dose in… it does not plunge! Tried again. Same problem. I will need to buy some insulin needles to retrieve the bonus dose.

WeAllHaveWings · 19/07/2024 17:15

My next pen 1 dose is tomorrow and I am going to try the hard twist for my 5th dose. I bought insulin needles but think I will be too scared to use them because they are 8mm (my pen needles are 6mm) and I opened one and it looks so much longer and the syringe is so light, not robust like the MJ pen.

Also because I keep reading on FB about the needle getting blunted going through the seal and not piercing the skin or bending and it is making me queasy just thinking about it!

If it doesn't work I have my 5mg in the fridge and I need to decide if I am going to stick to 2.5mg for another week or go up.

Silvesterthecat · 19/07/2024 17:37

@WeepingInASunlitRoom I couldn’t get the hard quit to work on my 2.5 pen and didn’t have any pliers so I gave up. I’ve just done it really easily on my 5mg pen and got out 6mg which was a useful dose to up slowly before I took the 7.5. I really didn’t take much of a twist at all

NewLifter · 19/07/2024 19:17

Well despite ordering on Tuesday, Royal Mail still haven't received my pen from Zava, so I will likely have to use the bonus dose, whether I want to or not (I had planned to anyway, just pissed off with Zava 😂)

P.S. just about caught an autocorrect from pen to pension 😂😂

Lumirubin · 19/07/2024 21:02

💩😊 right, I'm not normally a techno phobe, but I can't seem to delete these emojis! So please ignore them!

@NewLifter that's very annoying! Voy should have dispatched mine today, so we will see if they are any better than zava at getting it here on time. I pulled last week's dose back a day, so technically I need it a day earlier than they think I do. I've got a whole spare pen in the fridge because voy sent me a second when the first one turned up warm, so I can always use that if I need to I guess!

WeepingInASunlitRoom · 20/07/2024 07:20

Well, I only lost 3lbs on week 1 but had my period so thought that might have been why. I had a 4lbs whoosh at the start of week 2. And then every day of week 2 I have watched the scales go up a pound, wiping it out entirely.

I'm eating a fraction of what I ate pre-MJ, I've hardly eaten any carbs, nothing sugary, I'm drinking tons of water, no alcohol, I'm exercising every day and watching myself gain weight every morning is just unbearable. I know 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose but just the changes I've made should be doing something.

I know daily weighing isn't a good idea either. I think a lifetime of dieting has broken my body and my brain and I'm worried that nothing will ever work.

Lumirubin · 20/07/2024 08:38

@WeepingInASunlitRoom sorry to hear it's getting to you. I'm bad for daily weighing too. Maybe you are gaining muscle if you are exercising? How about taking measurements so you can see the tape measure going down?

OP posts:
WeepingInASunlitRoom · 20/07/2024 08:55

Thanks @Lumirubin - my clothes are feeling looser so I know something is working, even if it's just that I'm less bloated. I also recalibrated my scales and they showed 2lbs less than before, maybe they are a little unreliable. I will keep going.

Ilovethewild · 20/07/2024 08:57

@WeepingInASunlitRoom just wanted to reach out and remind you mj is a long term change.

would you be able to shift from daily weigh ins to weekly? Or to think about NSW’s? (Non scale wins)

I find I can get obsessed with scales and fight to not weigh constantly. It affects my wellbeing so much. 💐

User364837 · 20/07/2024 10:26

@WeepingInASunlitRoom I had really similar in week 2. Not everyone responds the same. Try to trust the process and keep going. Some people don’t lose anything at all until higher doses!

i’ve had moments of thinking I’m bound to be the small minority this doesn’t work for, then where will that leave me? But it’s too early to think that, and I’m determined to give it a go for 6 months and just see what happens.
solidarity! 👊
also really trying not to weigh as much but it is hard!

JessicaPeach · 20/07/2024 10:42

I think daily weighing is a good thing, what you have to control is your reaction to the fluctuations. You know you are in a calorie deficit, you know you can't have actually gained that much actual weight so hold onto that. It will go down.

I weigh daily first thing in the morning and I record my lowest weight as my current weight, if it goes up I ignore it and only record again when it's gone back down.

I need to lose 5 stone so it's a long game for me, at the start of this someone said the losses might be slow but it's the easiest weight you'll ever lose so I try to remember that too. When I see a fluctuation upwards it doesn't ruin my willpower, it doesn't make me want to go off the rails like I would have before. Mounjaro has got you! It will come off x

SJLO · 20/07/2024 11:11

I feel heavy today. It don't help that bowel movements are limited! I wouldn't say I'm constipated but there's not much happening. Day 6 had my cereal going out for the day so hopefully keep busy could defo eat a lot more and planning on taking next jag tonight a day early! Have a great Saturday everyone. Also think I'll change my name on here to something more dynamic 😆

LittleLlama · 20/07/2024 18:00

Just finished week 3. The heat over the last two days has made things difficult, not sleeping so well, not exercising and generally feeling exhausted. Despite this I have managed to lose weight.

Week 1 loss 1.6kg
Week 2 loss 1.1kg
Week 3 loss 1.2kg
Total loss 3.9kg

So a fairly steady (but not dramatic) loss.

I am planning to move up to 5mg after my next week, as I don’t have any side effects and the food suppression effect is definitely dwindling.

Hope you are all having a good weekend.

Lumirubin · 20/07/2024 18:54

Voy dispatched my 5mg yesterday and it arrived this morning. I keep thinking I should switch because they are expensive, but the customer service has been good and I've liked not having to do anything at all to get my next pen. So think I'm going to stick them out with the hopes I manage to get a discount here and there.

Feeling a little apprehensive about the 5mg dose! Mostly because I've got a dinner out on Monday and work on Tuesday. When I had a takeaway earlier in the week I was glued to the loo the next morning! I think I'm going to go ahead with the dose tomorrow as planned and just make really good choices at the lunch out. Although I'm surprised at the suppression this week, day 6 it's usually completely gone, but today we had lunch in a cafe and I could only manage 1/3 of a wrap. I'm 1st 5lbs down in 4 weeks, so I do wonder if sticking at 2.5mg would be ok, but the last two weeks the effects have definitely worn off by about day 4/5

Thanks everyone for the replies earlier. Daily weighing is a tricky thing - I do it to protect myself against a nasty shock on the weekly weigh day. If I'm not losing, I don't want it to come as an unpleasant surprise. But then it is a horrible way to start the day if it's disappointing news. I just don't understand why I'm not losing weight, whenever I have started a diet before I have always found the weight comes off at first. I am worried that things have changed now I'm in my 40s with so many years of yo-yoing behind me.

But! Whatever is happening on the scales - I am eating healthy food, I have cut out sugar and alcohol, I have made positive changes and all of that is a good thing.

There is an extra pressure with MJ being so expensive - you want to see results that justify the price. I do think the freedom from hunger and food distraction might be worth it in itself. My appetite suppression is going so strong on the last day of week 2. I've never experienced this before, and being able to make such good choices so easily is amazing.

I'm feeling apprehensive about 5mg @Lumirubin and I'm two weeks away! I hope it goes well for you.
