Mounjaro July 2024

Lumirubin · 20/06/2024 19:20

Thought id start a thread for anyone starting in July given we are almost there. I've just ordered tonight with Voy, hoping I get approved and will be able to start next week.

I'm a little apprehensive as some of my eating habits are emotionally driven not hunger! So I'm going to need to find some will power too. That's why I've gone with a company that provides support as well as just medication.

Anyone fancy joining along?

My starting weight is 18st 1lb and I'm 5ft 5 so I've ALOT to loose.

@BamberGirl yeah the first 2 weeks I could barely look at food. My body has definitely gotten used to it!

A stone+ in 3 weeks is amazing @Lumirubin - well done!

EricCatman · 14/07/2024 12:32

I’m 2.5 weeks in and the weight loss has definitely slowed down, but I have lost a stone and, amazingly, my husband has noticed.

Last night I had some wine and crisps (but no dinner) and omg, did it make me feel as sick as a dog.

I was the same. 4 squares of chocolate last night after dinner whilst watching TV, and I spent a good hour vomiting on and off afterwards. I've had low-level nausea since waking up this morning.

I started Mounjaro on Thursday afternoon. So far so good.
I don’t plan on telling many people as can’t be doing with peoples opinions so will be good have this thread to follow 😊

TheSproutOfWrath · 14/07/2024 17:04

RM delivered the pen this morning. First dose taken. I went to make a cup of tea and didn't reach for the biscuit tin. WTF? Surely it doesn't work that quickly? 😳

SilenceInside · 14/07/2024 17:28

I think it can work that quickly. Certainly I had similar on the first day I injected. It's also probably somewhat of a placebo effect too - having paid for the treatment and then self injected, your brain is going to want to believe it will work.

WeepingInASunlitRoom · 14/07/2024 19:28

I have made a conscious effort to eat more today, really thinking about protein. I ate lunch when I wasn't hungry at all, making sure to eat three meals each one with a serving of protein. And I feel better today than any day so far on MJ - it feels impossible, but I think I have just been eating too little. That's such an alien concept I don't think I recognised it, and was just glad to feel no hunger. The freedom from food noise was too much of a novelty, and I wasn't thinking about actually fuelling my body. Hoping to do a bit better on my second week!

Hi all, I’m in week 2, had a weekend away at an event, wasn’t very hungry at all but I have been eating three small healthy meals a day. As we were out had two pizza slices for lunch from a van, that kept me going all day.

i have had minor sulphur burps but find that eating/drinking helps with these.

i need to order 2nd pen and thinking of staying on 2.5 mg as is having a good effect so far. I’ll have to order it to arrive this week though as away on hols for 10 days after. Feel things earlier than ideal as would like to be sure that 2.5 mg still effective after 4 weeks. What have you all found…did your suppression at 4 weeks stay the same as week 2?

other option is to use the extra dose on the day I get back then reorder then? (Additional
benefit that will be after payday!

is the extra dose easy to get out?

I'm mainly on the June thread, but was away for a chunk of time and therefore had issues around reordering (so thought I would put my twopence in).

I ended up extending my doses to 8 days per dose so that I didn't need to take a second pen on holiday or use the bonus dose. The issue I had was keeping the pen cold - so I didn't dare take a second pen with me as it would have needed to sit out the fridge for over 30 days total.

I got back yesterday and took the extra dose this morning. I had to use pliers to get the pen to twist so I think I would either have had to take an insulin needle (which I don't have and which might have been annoying in hand luggage?) or pliers. I don't think I could have done it with my hands though I suspect someone with sufficient grip strength might have done.

AH37 · 15/07/2024 07:32

Really disappointing first week weigh in for me. Only lost 1.5lb. It isn't having massive appetite suppression but I really felt like I eat a lot less than usual and stopped the snacking so was hoping for a bit more.

TheSproutOfWrath · 15/07/2024 07:50

First jab yesterday and well, this is weird. Normally I'd have toast and cereal for breakfast. I have absolutely no inclination to have any this morning. 🤷‍♀️

Lumirubin · 15/07/2024 07:54

It worked that quickly for me in week one, it's magic!

I'm feeling ill today. Took my 4th 2.5mg dose yesterday, ate quite a lot of honey nuts during the football (think it was stress snacking!) and god am I feeling it today!! Got a dodgy tummy again but this time I feel sick with it too. Not sure how I'm going to survive a day with my toddler! Send help!

Summerheels · 15/07/2024 07:56

@AH37 the 2.5mg is a dosing strength to get your body used to the drug and some people on the main thread said they had limited effect until hitting 7.5-10mg dosage. I would work out your BMR & tdee calories to give an indication of what you need to stick too lose. I’m short so mine is low if I go above 1400c I don’t lose I just maintain so I’m having to eat around 1000-1200c plus exercise daily just to lose 1-2lbs a week but the MJ is helping me by reducing the desire to eat more. Keep going & see how you feel in a few weeks plus take measurements. I’ve already lost an inch off my waist / hips & bust after 4weeks.

WeepingInASunlitRoom · 15/07/2024 07:56

It is weird @thesproutofwrath - I have gone off carbs in a major way and they were what I was living off. Also, like a pp mentioned, I've gone off tea and coffee. It's a bit like being pregnant - I had odd aversions then (though different ones). It's amazing what a role hormones play in appetite and how ashamed and greedy I have always felt about being hungry and wanting the wrong foods and now suddenly it's switched off like a tap.

Summerheels · 15/07/2024 07:59

Good luck @Lumirubin I hope it eases soon, some plain carbs may help? Hope you can wear the toddler out with some fresh air & you haven’t got the wet heavy rain warning we have in today.,

Summerheels · 15/07/2024 08:02

Makes you realise it’s nothing about “willpower” doesn’t it @WeepingInASunlitRoom hormones have such a big impact. I’m early 50s so been battling the rollercoaster of perimenopause for 6years now and watching the change my teenager girls go through too is eye opening the impact it has on appetite. One of my DDs sees food as fuel limited sugar cravings my other is like me & completely dopamine seeking using food sugary snacks as a drug almost. She is a healthy weight so far but I can see she’s going to struggle like I have through my life sadly.

Lumirubin · 15/07/2024 08:54

Thank you @Summerheels, I've drank a load of water and that seems to have helped. We have forest school today so that will wear her out, but I might struggle in the woods! Haha

1st injection done for me! Wasn't too scary. 🤞for some future good results!

KeepinOn · 15/07/2024 10:41

Chin up, those of us losing slower than others. The first month is a loading dose, I think it's called? Many people don't have any noticeable changes in appetite or reactions as their body gets used to the meds. I now think my first week of the meds was all in my head haha. My 2nd dose was last Thursday evening and I haven't noticed any significant hunger suppression since, however I'm also ill so haven't been eating as much anyway.

I'm noticing small changes in my weight, though, which is enough to keep me motivated until I get there. Keeping going is the thing I guess.

Maccamac · 15/07/2024 11:09

Hi everyone 👋
Been lurking on here reading all of your posts, so reassuring and positive to read about your own journeys. I started on July 1st, week 1 lost 3.75lbs, week 2 lost 2.5lb. Not dramatic but am happy with this. Few side effects including nausea at beginning of week, burping for a bit but then that subsides. Definitely has curbed my appetite and not wanting to snack or even think about food. Had the odd replacement drink for lunch just to make sure I’m getting vitamins etc and am taking a tablet supplement too. Then have a protein tea (salmon, chicken or lean beef) with veggies and small amount of carbs. Using a smaller plate too has helped. Would say I am eating over half less than I would normally eat. Have a male mate who has lost 2 stone in 9 weeks and was the one who recommended this to me! Thanks Dave 😘

I did my first jab on Saturday night and I’m shocked! I wasn’t hungry at all yesterday, had to force myself to eat and I got full so quickly. It feels like a switch has been turned off in my head, I’m just amazed. Full body aches though, feel like my skin is bruised everywhere but it’s easing up a little today.
