Mounjaro July 2024

Thought id start a thread for anyone starting in July given we are almost there. I've just ordered tonight with Voy, hoping I get approved and will be able to start next week.

I'm a little apprehensive as some of my eating habits are emotionally driven not hunger! So I'm going to need to find some will power too. That's why I've gone with a company that provides support as well as just medication.

Anyone fancy joining along?

My starting weight is 18st 1lb and I'm 5ft 5 so I've ALOT to loose.

Hi all,

I am now on day 20 so had my third injection on Friday. At the end of week 2 I had lost another 1lb so happy with that. After my first month I am planning on weighing monthly as its easy to become despondent when you only see a lb or STS in week. I’ve decided that it took me two or three yers to get to this size so I can’t expect it all to disappear overnight (that would be nice though ha ha).

No side effects this week so far, really not feeling hunger but have my meals planned and it’s working well calorie counting on my fitness pal.

I’ve still not told anyone I am doing this and have managed to hide my pen in the fridge. I’ll probably let the cat out of the back with my nearest and dearest once I know this is working for me. I just don’t want people asking how it’s going and want to just chip away with no pressure.

Good Luck everyone.

Anyway here are my stats so far:
Starting weight: 14st 1lb
End of week 1 : 13st 7lb
Week 2: 13st 6lb

Total Lost: 9lb
Goal weight: 10st

I'm noticing I'm completely disinterested in carbs. Which is a huge win in and of itself. I think because the injection is keeping my blood sugars from dipping and spiking, I'm not craving a quick energy hit in the form of bread/crackers/crisps/cake/chocolate. Still trying to navigate eating differently around family life, my sweet DD made me a cake over the weekend for the first time on her own, and of course I needed to eat a slice. I couldn't finish it though! And tonight's dinner was stir-fry but I didn't fancy the noodles at all.

Still up in the air on whether this is placebo effect or medicinal impact, but I'll take it either way.

cappycap · 08/07/2024 19:39

Took my second injection Friday and even though my nausea had near enough disappeared by Saturday evening (didn't get it with my first jab) I'm struggling so much with fatigue.

I've tried upping my carb levels but it's just hard when I have no interest in food at the moment. Just had to force down the pasta with my meatballs.

Anyone else suffering with tiredness? Any tips to combat it?

Think I will possibly be staying on 2.5mg for my second pen as since the morning after my first injection I've had instant appetite suppression and fatigue so I guess I could be super sensitive to Mounjaro.

TheRoseShaker · 08/07/2024 20:14

I've had to take my third 2.5 dose 3 days early, hunger back with a vengeance. I've been absolutely starving this afternoon with a rumbly tummy and everything, just had big dinner but still within calories for the day. Very odd, like a switch flicked.

I had the nausea for a couple of days after the first jab, wore off quickly, had nothing after my second jab

I get this. I suspect reducing carbs is why my brain fog and anxiety have reduced. There's a whole raft of research out there that reducing carbs has a hugely positive impact on mental health!

Advice please! My first delivery due Thursday but going camping at the weekend. When would you recommend taking the first dose? Thursday or wait until retun home on Sunday??

I’d probably wait tbh. I haven’t really had any side effects myself, but some people do, and I wouldn’t want to be camping when they hit!

User364837 · 08/07/2024 22:33

Yes depending who you’re with and what kind of occasion it is you might want to wait, I felt totally fine after like many people but some people do have gastro side effects

NewLifter · 09/07/2024 08:22

I definitely would have been miserable going camping, I was absolutely freezing the night after my first dose - I had to wear a jumper and oodie over my pyjamas in bed, wrapped up in a duvet too!

Definitely after camping just incase! Would be unlucky but not uncommon to have gastro effects and as pp said I was FREEZING when I first took it!

@cappycap I'm on week 2 of 2.5 (I inject on Thursday so that I can deal with side effects over the weekend) and I was also exhausted this week. I stayed in bed all day Sunday and slept an extra 4 or 5 hours more than usual. I also had really bad wind and had to get up at 3am yesterday to be sick. It’s settled down now, but I’m still tired and lethargic. I’m not sure what might help.

For slow losers like me (2lbs down in week one) try not to get disheartened by all the super losses others are having. Some people are only eating a few hundred calories a day. I’m trying to stick to 1200 to 1400 calories a day, which is so much easier to do on Mounjaro. I’m still eating pretty much what I want, but food noise has definitely lessened.

WeepingInASunlitRoom · 09/07/2024 09:43

I feel pretty tired on day 3 and slept very well. It's lack of food; I can't bring myself to eat much at all. It's left me with no energy, but I'm hoping my body adapts. I think, from experience of previous diets, there are a few days of shock while my body is expecting energy from calories coming in and doesn’t want to start using the fuel I have stored in ample quantities! When it switches over and starts burning that, I hope I will feel a bit more get up and go.

Monkeyseesmonkeydoesn · 09/07/2024 09:56

Thanks! I'll wait until back from camping. 😊

Week 1, Day 5 - the hunger is suddenly back! I was enjoying its absence.

I saw someone upthread mention administering a 2.5mg dose a few days early; before I start randomly googling, does anyone know of guidance I can read somewhere?

CatTraveler · 09/07/2024 11:12

So ordered my first one this morning, now trying to work out when to take it. I have a Sunday to Sunday holiday in October booked (I dont want to take it with me as will be traveling hand luggage only and dont want to have hassle getting through security with it) Can you take a dose a few days late, ie if I take it Friday (which works for other things I have on), could I take it the Friday before I go, then the Sunday when I get back, then stay on the Friday the following week or is that a bit "no no"

I am not telling anyome I am using it at the moment - will wait and see how I get on with it. I just know that I will get comments like "why do you need that - all you need to do is just eat less" etc.

Ballyguin · 09/07/2024 11:17

Re: tiredness and nausea

I've realised why I was so exhausted on Sunday. I took a heartburn and acid-reflux capsule from Tesco containing Esomeprazole on Saturday to help with nausea and burps. Med Express also suggested an anti-sickness treatment with my next pen, but when I went through the questionnaire I was refused as I’m on citalopram. Apparently some anti sickness meds make you very drowsy if you take antidepressants.

Looking at Tesco’s heartburn capsule info sheet inside the box it does say consult your GP if you take citalopram. I know I should have looked at the info more carefully, but I was so desperate and it was on the health isle I assumed it would be okay. The info on the back of the box didn’t raise any flags for me.

Lesson learned! Don’t be me 😕

I think that was me - it says in the instructions to leave 4 days between doses. I don't feel any different after taking it last night, worried it's not working, but then 2.5mg isn't a 'proper' dose so hoping by the time I get to 5mg it will start to kick in. Is taking a lot of will power on the calorie counting!

Ah, ok, thank you. :) I'll see how I get on, I have a busy few days ahead and don't want to risk any adverse side effects this week. I'm scheduled for the next dose on Thursday night which is after all the busy-ness.

Just to clarify, it's not through choice! I realised at 10pm last night I had only had 800 calories so made myself eat a protein pudding, took forever to get it down as I had no interest. Thankfully I've more appetite today so my plan is to eat more on days that my body lets me, in the hopes it evens out over the week!

Same here, forced down a Protein yoghurt/quark to get calories and protein in last night and felt awful after, it was just too heavy. I need to spread out eating more during the day.

I am only on my 3rd week of 2.5mg.

End of week 1, am down 3lbs. Have still been having 3 meals a day and probably 1 snack and not calorie counting, though definitely eating less than before (but was in a bingeing phase). So am happy with that. No significant side effects, worst has been a touch of acid reflux towards the middle of the week.

bring on the second injection!

yajustneverknow · 09/07/2024 18:10

I'm feeling slightly deflated with this and worry I may be wasting my money. Did first jab Friday, had good appetite suppression all weekend, was very careful what I ate when I did eat. The hunger has come back already today, first time since Friday my belly has actually rumbled. Stupidly weighed myself and absolutely nothing has come off despite two massive walks too.

WeepingInASunlitRoom · 09/07/2024 18:20

The 2.5mg dose is a loading dose though @yajustneverknow - some people don't lose weight on it, or lose slowly and then it gets going on 5mg. I would feel very discouraged too, but it hasn’t been long at all yet. I did my first jab on Sunday, have has great suppression too but had to hop on scales for a medical appointment and have put a pound on!! However, I'm about to get my period and I always gain a few pounds right before, presumably water retention. So it might be something like that.
