Mounjaro July 2024

Thought id start a thread for anyone starting in July given we are almost there. I've just ordered tonight with Voy, hoping I get approved and will be able to start next week.

I'm a little apprehensive as some of my eating habits are emotionally driven not hunger! So I'm going to need to find some will power too. That's why I've gone with a company that provides support as well as just medication.

Anyone fancy joining along?

My starting weight is 18st 1lb and I'm 5ft 5 so I've ALOT to loose.

Interestingly though, I had some bad news today (apart from putting on a pound!) and my brain wanted to go and buy a doughnut. My body wasn't on board so I didn't. It was the first time I've been able to stop and think about that impulse rather than blindly following it.

yajustneverknow · 09/07/2024 18:29

@WeepingInASunlitRoom thank you for your encouragement. I hope you are ok.

Funnily enough me and DH have just had a blazing row and now I want to eat shit but I feel like I could actually eat shit and it's taking all my strength not to eat it.

I really don't think I'll be hanging around on the 2.5mg dose after these first 4 weeks, I know some have said they are.

Are people actually calorie counting? I've just been really careful but not calorie counting.

WeAllHaveWings · 09/07/2024 18:30

Sorry to hear you've had some bad news @WeepingInASunlitRoom.

The sugar habit is strong in me too, in the past I found it much harder than giving up cigarettes, but I have had no sugar cravings at all since starting MJ 3 weeks ago.

I remember when I had given up cigarettes for 10 years and was told about a redundancy the first thing I wanted was a cigarette! In the past I haven't realised that sugar craving was an addiction too, which I think, along with MJ, will help this time.

Summerheels · 09/07/2024 18:37

Yes I’m calorie counting it’s the only way for me to lose weight I’m sticking to 1000-1200c per day and exercising daily. I’ve been weighing everything as my portion sizes had really crept up this last two years without me realising. The MJ just makes it so much easier to do it though.

I'm feeling slightly deflated with this and worry I may be wasting my money. Did first jab Friday, had good appetite suppression all weekend, was very careful what I ate when I did eat. The hunger has come back already today, first time since Friday my belly has actually rumbled. Stupidly weighed myself and absolutely nothing has come off despite two massive walks too.

I've been exactly the same, took my third dose early last night instead of waiting until Thursday, and suppression is back. My tummy was proper rumbling too. Going to leave at least 4 days between doses, got my 4th dose and the bonus to go, have ordered my 5mg pen already too

hoarahloux · 09/07/2024 19:13

I've had good suppression the last couple of days on 2.5 but I've just had to take a loperamide. I hate taking them because just one means I won't poo for two or three days, but my guts are not happy today. :(

WeepingInASunlitRoom · 09/07/2024 19:31

I'm not calorie counting right now because I find it a bit triggering - it's so associated with failed diets over the years so if I try to do it, it feels like I'm setting myself up to fail at this too. Right now the appetite suppression is so powerful that I know I'm in a calorie deficit because of how little I'm managing to eat, but if that starts to wear off perhaps I will need to.

WeepingInASunlitRoom · 09/07/2024 19:31

And thanks for the well wishes, everyone.

Ballyguin · 09/07/2024 20:43

@NewLifter and @WeAllHaveWings - I wasn’t targeting anyone, sorry if you thought that. I’ve been reading lots of the Mounjaro threads and noticed that some people are only manage tiny amounts of food, which I guess makes weight loss more dramatic.

i wasn’t able to eat much myself over the weekend as I felt nauseous, but on the whole I’m sticking to 1200 - 1400 calories quite effortlessly thanks to Mounjaro.

Countrygirl222 · 09/07/2024 20:43

I’ve just done my fourth injection and seem to be steadily losing 3lb a week. I’m counting calories as I’m worried I’m not having enough protein.
My side effects have been constipation and a horrible dry mouth sometimes. I’ve got another 2.5 pen as they sent me two boxes by accident and told me to keep it!
Since it seems to be working on a low dose with few side effects I’m thinking of staying on the lowest dose. Has anyone else tried this, did the effectiveness of the appetite suppression wear off?

Ballyguin · 09/07/2024 20:47

@WeepingInASunlitRoom, your username jumped out at me when I saw it as it seems such a sad name. I hope you’re okay 💐

Oh thank you - it's a song lyric! So nothing more meaningful than that, don't worry!

Just had my 1st injection eek

😂I’m outed as a non-Swifty!

Mounjaroooooh · 10/07/2024 08:37

I'm midway through my second week, still having no suppression whatsoever, hoping it kicks in soon as my willpower isn't going to last forever! I've already got my 5mg pen and I'm really tempted to take that one on Sunday - would this be a bad idea?

Ha! I might do a name change to something less tragic, I didn't really think.

Tired this morning, but I have slept better this week than for a long time, I don't know if that can be MJ related or coincidence - I was worried about insomnia, but the opposite so far. Only on day 4 though so I won't get overexcited.

Have you had bad side effects? Can you ask your provider for advice? I'm signed up with Asda and can email a doctor with any questions or problems to get advice, which is reassuring.

No, no side effects whatsoever - had one night of not sleeping but I think that was just a one-off.

I think I'll just be patient, do the 4 doses of 2.5mg and not bother with the bonus dose, and then go on 5mg after the 4 weeks. I'm not known for my patience though Grin

BamberGirl · 10/07/2024 08:59

Just did my second injection.
4 lb down after week 1 so very happy.

have found it great…no side effects so far and love that I just haven’t fancied snacks at all! Hoping stays the same in week 2

Lumirubin · 10/07/2024 09:06

@hoarahloux I struggled with diarrhoea last week. I had to take loperamide on 2 of the 4 days because I had stuff on. The other 2 I just rode it out because I was WFH and it eased off by mid morning. So might be worth trying that if you don't want to take meds. I've had my 3rd injection this week and so far no diarrhoea so hopefully it was just a blip not a regular symptom too

Please don’t mess about with the dosage schedule. You are meant to stay on 2.5 for 4 weeks so that your body gets used to the medication. People are losing weight on the 2.5, but it’s not designed for weight loss effect at that dosage.

You can bring your injection day forward as long as you leave 4 days between doses. That's what I did with my 3rd 2.5 dose.

gimmemounjaro · 10/07/2024 09:39

Joining in anticipation and trepidation - I am waiting to be approved and hope to start next week.

CW 17st 2lbs at 5'9"
So would like to lose 5-6 stone

I have just given up smoking so this is the next step towards better health. Hoping I can lose steadily and still have enough energy to exercise.

Is there a particular way of eating that is recommended on MJ? I see people talking about getting enough protein and also some low carbers- if there's a way of eating that maximises MJ's effectiveness I would like to do that. Or maybe it's just calories?

Lumirubin · 10/07/2024 10:02

Welcome @gimmemounjaro the eating more protein and less carbs is a way to counteract the fact that you can barely manage a full sized meal. So people tend to cut down on carbs and fill up on nutrient rich/protein filled foods to try and make sure you are getting enough of the good stuff when you are eating such small amounts. I'm not following any specific diet, because I've done every diet under the sun in the past and I didn't want to treat this as just another diet. So I'm not calorie counting and eating what I fancy (which is generally much healthier than I used to fancy!) and I've lost a stone in 2.5weeks

Thanks @Lumirubin

Do people tend to take a multivitamin too? Just thinking that fruit and veg have a lot of nutrients that meat/fish don't.
