Continuing Mounjaro...part 13

Please note: Mounjaro will only be be prescribed initially if your BMI is above 30 until you get to a healthy BMI of 23 to BMI 25

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after that a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
https://medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein

https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

11 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), psylum husks(fibre for constipation), electrolytes.

12 - Drink lots of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

13 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

14 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

15 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

16 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

I coming to the same conclusion sadly. They all work out around 90p- £1 a serving unless you get lucky to get a big sale on. Might need to get over my hump and just order the ones I fancy!

Yeah. If home bargains isn't cheaper then I might as well stick to Myprotein ones. Will wait to see if they have a better sale!

Maybe add some to the basket and leave them there to see if you get sent a discount code

Hey. This week I've lost 1.5lbs, bringing my total loss in 12 weeks to 28.2 lbs.

Took my final 5mg last night and decided to inject into my stomach for the first time (always injected into thighs). The appetite suppression is brilliant, and I seem to have less side effects? Anyone else find that with stomach injecting?

So glad to have the appetite suppression back... I've been using willpower alone the past week as it seems to be wearing off.
Go up to 7.5 next week!

Oo we’re pretty much MJ twins! I had my last bonus dose on Wednesday and starting 7.5 next Wednesday! Ive also lost 28.1lbs. I’ve always injected in my stomach and my side effects have been minimal

CiderJabs · 21/06/2024 19:44

@MrsBurtMacklin I wonder if you can apply that as well as the app discount?! I shall give it a try.

Meanwhile I've secured a deal with DP and just made him a chocolate shake 😂

ObsidianTree · 21/06/2024 20:04

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 21/06/2024 18:41

I wish I'd injected into my thigh. Will try thigh next home now I'm in the 10's.

I'm going on holiday next week. Is it ok to miss a week?

I missed a week for my holiday. I gained a lot in a week but it was mostly water weight /flight weight. I think most don't gain after a hol, but I don't think there has been anyone else that has taken a week off without a dose.

I lost the weight I gained in about a week.

So it's ok to miss a week if you are happy to gain weight etc. But I found it does come off again easily enough.

These work out at 93p per serving, will pick some up I think. I've never used protein drinks but I dont think I'm getting enough protein in my diet

CiderJabs · 21/06/2024 21:02

@butterfly0404 they do help a lot. For this price I would recommend my protein. They are very tasty. A lot of us here have discount codes which will give both of us £10 off orders over £45 (so 2 cans).

I can send you my code if you want one

CiderJabs · 21/06/2024 21:03

@MrsBurtMacklin unfortunately you can only use one 10% code. But thanks for trying it!

Hi, thanks, I've just bought some from Amazon, a different brand but looks okay..PHD Smart protein. Works out at 63p per serving and 19g protein so that's pretty reasonable. Once I'm through that I'll try the My Protein, cheers x

Hi! Hope I can join in. Read all the threads. So much good advice and positive support- lovely and so encouraging to read. Smile I'm having a tricky experience with my second pen- delivered very late when I was on holiday by the supplier who are ignoring all my emails now when I was trying to establish if it was safe to use after 4 days not refrigerated in next door's house.I guess I'll need to write it off, but it's a sore one as it was £220. Obviously looking for new supplier.
I had lost weight on my first four 2.5mg doses and bonus dose and am now just under BMI 30. Does any supplier not require pics of weight on scales?? Really would like a hassle-free service now. I was doing so well- had lost nearly 10 pounds!!! I have been overweight to varying degrees and dieting for the last 30 years on and off and was feeling so optimistic when using my first pen until this re-ordering disaster.
I have been unable to use the (possibly ruined) 5mg pen for last week awaiting advice that didn't come.
Hope the above made some sense.Blush

It's OK out of the fridge for 20 days or something. It will be fine so no need to waste it.

Choux · 21/06/2024 23:21

Yes the pen is fine for 30 days out of the fridge. Get injecting!!!

@GreyFinch I am also 5 foot 8. I think 11st 10lb would be BMI 25. I am going to go for low 11s. Possibly 10st 7lbs as it would be amazing to try that weight as an adult! Lol For the first time, I think it might be achievable with MJ!

Also 5 foot 8. 43. Used to hover around 11:6 for years so would like to see how that looked & consider going lower, but that seems wild to consider it could happen.

butterfly0404 · 21/06/2024 18:11

So I've taken my first dose, took a while to figure out how the pen worked but got my small brain around it. Injected into my tummy, didn't feel it at all, in fact I had to check it had gone in.

I've got a slight headache but could be coincidental.

How long on average does it take to feel restriction on appetite ? I'm having chicken salad for dinner and feeling fairly hungry as I've eaten very little today.

My experience is that it comes into effect about 24 hours after I inject.

ObsidianTree · 22/06/2024 07:56

@CherryCinnamon yes safe to use the pen. Definitely leave the supplier you were with. Who were they out of interest?

OP posts:
ObsidianTree · 22/06/2024 08:00

@GingerLemonTea it's a crazy thought isn't it!

I'm currently 13st 7lb and delighted as I'm approaching the lowest weight I got to doing keto a few years ago! 11st 7lbs ish was the lowest I got when I last managed to lose a lot of weight in my 20s! That seems a dream now! To get beyond it seems crazy!
