Continuing Mounjaro...part 13

ObsidianTree · 14/06/2024 11:31

Please note: Mounjaro will only be be prescribed initially if your BMI is above 30 until you get to a healthy BMI of 23 to BMI 25

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after that a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
https://medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein

https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

11 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), psylum husks(fibre for constipation), electrolytes.

12 - Drink lots of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

13 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

14 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

15 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

16 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

I know, it does nothing for my BP. Just wondering if I can be arsed to engage any further.

They're absolutely raving. I'm no where near 42 (58! 😮‍💨) but found myself typing, and deleting, a very rude word which I normally hate, begins with C.

Does zava accept evidence of proof of purchase from previous supplier instead of pictures? I know mediexpress did from Voy.

smasot · 21/06/2024 15:50

@Choux Thanks I know it will take time and it is for the long haul and not a quick fix it just can mess with your head a bit when some people are losing so much week on week. I feel like the mounjaro is helping me stick to my diet but I am still only losing what I would expect to with the calorie deficit and exercise I am doing.

I think I always had a slower than average digestion before mounjaro I've never really went as often as once a day so now it is a lot worse and I had to use laxido to go the past few times. I am veggie and even the past when I ate a lot of rubbish my main meals were still all home cooked and full of fresh veg and pulses, that hasn't changed except perhaps some smaller portions and of course no more binging on rubbish. I think in the past the sheer volume of food I took on kind of forced my digestive system to shift now I am eating less, plus the mounjaro it is not great. I do worry about how will be in higher doses. I don't want to get reliant on laxatives. I am using magnesium as well most nights. I will do some research as I don't want to be stymied by constipation and have to stop using due to that.

Also @Choux Congratulations on fitting into the size 14 jacket! That must feel amazing! I am not yet down a size but I will be dancing round the house when it happens!

They didn't ask. I moved from MedExpress. They just wanted a pic of my current weight on the scales and a body photo.

BellaCriesAndThatsAlright · 21/06/2024 15:57

So many 42 year olds 😂

Gah, I tried on some size 16 shorts in Primark today but I couldn't even come close to fastening them. I don't think I look much different yet at 15lbs down. I have noticed my rings are looser and I think my face is less puffy.

ThirdStorm · 21/06/2024 16:09

I’m curious if anybody has received some 2.5mg that has a later expiry than May 2024 (which I know is extended to 30 October 24)?

Stickthatupyourdojo · 21/06/2024 16:18

Just popping in to say I'm still in my stall and my current weight can just fack off!!!

Really wish I moved to 10mg when I cracked open my 7.5 pen on Tuesday. Definitely topping it up next week if I haven't broken into the next stone bracket. This one is the big one for me, stuck at 10-10.1 and I've not been 9 stone something since a decade and pre children. I am four pounds off a healthy BMI (9 stone 10 is 24.9BMI for me). Each morning I run to the scales like a saddo, have about 7 progressively more pathetic wees and huff that the sodding scales doesn't shift.

14 and a half weeks in, 2 stone exactly lost on MJ (2 stone 12 in total).

Yes, I got my first delivery today with a covering note explaining the use by date is extended to October

The cynical me thinks it is quite convenient that they seem to have a load with a May expiry (in June) which suddenly is OK to use. Mine was a May expiry. If they'd not extended the dates they'd have been left with a lot of expired stock and money potential wasted. But I'm still here jabbing away because they said it's OK and I'm desperate for weight loss.

ThirdStorm · 21/06/2024 16:20

Thanks @butterfly0404 but im looking for later than May. I’m stockpiling but at the moment they all expire by October! It would be good to get some later than that.

MrsBurtMacklin · 21/06/2024 16:52

Hey. This week I've lost 1.5lbs, bringing my total loss in 12 weeks to 28.2 lbs.

Took my final 5mg last night and decided to inject into my stomach for the first time (always injected into thighs). The appetite suppression is brilliant, and I seem to have less side effects? Anyone else find that with stomach injecting?

So glad to have the appetite suppression back... I've been using willpower alone the past week as it seems to be wearing off.
Go up to 7.5 next week!

CiderJabs · 21/06/2024 16:56

@Stickthatupyourdojo I hear you sister! Today I'm 10.04 which is my lowest ever and a bmi of 24.9 but like you I want to be under 10!! It's just not happening 😤

@ObsidianTree I may regret this - but what thread is it?
