Continuing Mounjaro...part 13

Please note: Mounjaro will only be be prescribed initially if your BMI is above 30 until you get to a healthy BMI of 23 to BMI 25

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after that a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
https://medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein

https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

11 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), psylum husks(fibre for constipation), electrolytes.

12 - Drink lots of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

13 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

14 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

15 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

16 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

1.5lb down today!

Bringing me to 24.6lb since starting in march
And 33lb down since may last year 😁

FlappyFish · 21/06/2024 17:08

I’m 42 in a couple of weeks 😂😂

FlappyFish · 21/06/2024 17:09

And yep, @PissedOffNeighbour22 is my MJ twin as we started pretty much same time.

ObsidianTree · 21/06/2024 17:10

MrsBurtMacklin · 21/06/2024 16:52

Hey. This week I've lost 1.5lbs, bringing my total loss in 12 weeks to 28.2 lbs.

Took my final 5mg last night and decided to inject into my stomach for the first time (always injected into thighs). The appetite suppression is brilliant, and I seem to have less side effects? Anyone else find that with stomach injecting?

So glad to have the appetite suppression back... I've been using willpower alone the past week as it seems to be wearing off.
Go up to 7.5 next week!

I used to inject in my thigh but have switched to my tummy now as the suppression seems stronger

OP posts:
Choux · 21/06/2024 17:16

Really? I started to inject in my stomach but then moved to my thigh because the first post in each thread says that is the slowest absorption:

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs

ThirdStorm · 21/06/2024 17:21

@MrsBurtMacklin ive only ever injected in my tummy. After 8 doses seems pointless to change! I just alternative right and left!

Hmm, I suppose I took it as fastest absorption so it works faster?

@CiderJabs solidarity weight/stall buddy 👊🏼

ineedmoresleepnow · 21/06/2024 17:51

Age 42 here too.

I'm down 25 pounds now and broken though the barrier weight that I have always got stuck on for the last few (ok 7) years of trying.
Had a few stalls but it's soo good feeling that you know it will break eventually, frustrating as they are

Choux · 21/06/2024 17:58

@ObsidianTree got it. I interpreted 'suppression seems stronger' as meaning it lasts longer not that it took effect quicker.

I like trying to make the suppression last more days by having it absorbed slower from my thigh.

Pinkbendyman · 21/06/2024 17:59

I’m now 21lbs down and started MJ in May.

My mental health has improved so much over the last 6 weeks, I feel so much happier and confident. It’s like the awful food addiction that I’ve lived with for years has disappeared and I love it!

My BMI is now 29.5. I’d like to lose another 31 pounds to reach a healthy BMI although I’m not sure how long that would take. Not giving up though.

CiderJabs · 21/06/2024 18:02

Is anyone drinking clear whey protein not from my protein? Mine will run out soon and their prices are now double what I paid last time 😤

butterfly0404 · 21/06/2024 18:11

So I've taken my first dose, took a while to figure out how the pen worked but got my small brain around it. Injected into my tummy, didn't feel it at all, in fact I had to check it had gone in.

I've got a slight headache but could be coincidental.

How long on average does it take to feel restriction on appetite ? I'm having chicken salad for dinner and feeling fairly hungry as I've eaten very little today.

I was thinking they got expensive. I think I'll have a look in Aldi.

Shame as I like their clear drinks

Me too, I love them. I have one first thing and I much prefer it to the normal thick shakes. But they are working out almost £1 a serving and I have one if not two a day so it adds up. I had my protein works before and they weren't as nice. Looked at bulk but it's similar kind of price. They are in demand at the moment so maybe that's why.

chesterlestreet · 21/06/2024 18:20

@CiderJabs it's showing up to 60% off so around £30 for 35 servings also using the Appy code for an extra 10% off. With a different email address you could also use my referral code for £10 off (and £10 to me). Code is HELEN-RG36

Yeah I've gone off the protein shakes that are milky. Have plenty of that so I should work though them I guess!

@ObsidianTree got it. I interpreted 'suppression seems stronger' as meaning it lasts longer not that it took effect quicker.

I like trying to make the suppression last more days by having it absorbed slower from my thigh.

That's why I've always injected into thigh. I also thought that MJ is less bioavailable if injected into thigh, so you seemingly got a slightly lesser effect in general. As I was at the end of a second 5mg pen, I hoped injecting into stomach would mean it was more bioavailable and I'd get a stronger effect in general.
I'm v pleased to have v little nausea though! I'll have to wait and see if it wears off quicker this week.

CiderJabs · 21/06/2024 18:32

Let us know what you think of these home bargain ones.

I've also got some milky ones which I suppose I should force myself to drink!

imnottoofussed · 21/06/2024 18:32

I think those home bargains ones contain 16 servings so works out just over 90p a serving

Also saw some in Holland and Barrett but similar prices I think to myprotein

Ghilliedu · 21/06/2024 18:35

I always injected into my tummy but when I was really ill moving up to 5mg the pharmacist at MedExpress suggested trying thigh and I haven’t had any side effects since. Now I’m too scared to go back to tummy!

CiderJabs · 21/06/2024 18:37

I coming to the same conclusion sadly. They all work out around 90p- £1 a serving unless you get lucky to get a big sale on. Might need to get over my hump and just order the ones I fancy!

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 21/06/2024 18:41

I wish I'd injected into my thigh. Will try thigh next home now I'm in the 10's.

I'm going on holiday next week. Is it ok to miss a week?
