Continuing Mounjaro...part 13

ObsidianTree · 14/06/2024 11:31

Please note: Mounjaro will only be be prescribed initially if your BMI is above 30 until you get to a healthy BMI of 23 to BMI 25

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after that a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
https://medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein

https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

11 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), psylum husks(fibre for constipation), electrolytes.

12 - Drink lots of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

13 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

14 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

15 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

16 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

That's the thing if you do order it every two weeks to try and stockpile then they'll only see the weight loss difference of two weeks but they'll assume it's for a full month maybe and think it's not working for you?

I mean you could lie about your weight when ordering but have to keep track of what you've said. I'd be hopeless and drop myself in it somewhere along the line which is why I've been sticking to 4 week orders but I might change this when I get closer to target.

This is a really good point. I have 2 unopened 5mg pens in the fridge now so I might wait 3/4 weeks to order again and hopefully I’ll have a decent loss. Although I’m probably going to switch suppliers next time depending on who is cheaper so it might not matter

Priority1234 · 20/06/2024 19:13

I was wondering about the tiredness/exhaustion today also - do you think it's a genuine side effect of the medication, or just the result of a prolonged period on a low calorie diet?

ObsidianTree · 20/06/2024 19:16

Priority1234 · 20/06/2024 19:03

That may be potentially outdated - I got 10mg from E Surgery for £145 using code RETURN15 yesterday (delivered today! Super quick!)

Damn that's cheap!

I just take whatever I see on Reddit. Not sure if there is a more up to date one

Any discount codes for 5mg?

ThirdStorm · 20/06/2024 19:20

@Everdecreasingcircumferences what a lovely way to put it! Are you shrinking! Perfect!

CiderJabs · 20/06/2024 19:27

I've felt knackered today. I think it's both the meds and the fact that I don't feel like eating much. I've had a whey drink and a collagen / fruit smoothie and other than that I've had a small slice of sourdough bread. Don't feel like having dinner but have chicken on the bbq so I'll have something.

DreamingofGinoclock · 20/06/2024 19:48

I have just ordered some collagen from ancient+ brave! No idea how good it is but seems to have good reviews and I'm a sucker for thier pretty packaging 😂

Just incase anyone else was thinking of ordering from them I have a code for £10 (just for transparency I will get £5 of next order - although that probably won't be for a while cause I will likely forget to take each day 😂)

As noted above can't vouch for it at the moment as haven't tried yet but will come back and review when I have!

Perhaps try sending them an urgent email on [email protected] with your order number explaining the issue.

Thanks I did this last night.

All is good has been approved and dispatched and according to Royal mail will be delivered tomorrow but 🤞🏻 as I don't always trust them 😂.

It looks like med express just took a long time to update thier system as the royal mail app shows it having been entered into their system Tuesday evening!

SylviaStrong · 20/06/2024 19:54

@12345abby think you can use this £85 discount at Voy for 5mg with proof of previous prescription.

https://joinvoy.com/r/U-wjjjXONaOY

12345abby · 20/06/2024 20:10

@SylviaStrong Tried to use it there but it will only prescribe me them weight loss tablets and not the mounjaro for some reason.

easterbuns1 · 20/06/2024 20:20

@Habbyhadno did Zava need anything from you apart from current pen prescription details? I'm looking to move but don't have a great deal to lose so can't really be faffed with yet more photos like when I started.

JanetSnakeholeMacklin · 20/06/2024 20:22

Hi! I just took my 9th (bonus dose) 5mg early because it's really wearing off now. I also injected into my stomach instead of thigh for the first time, so we'll see how that works!
Am starting 7.5mg next week and kinda nervous about it! Hopefully having been on 5mg for so long, it means my body is really used to it and I won't die of side effects too badly! 🤞

Found it interesting reading that some of you don't do weekly weighs - I weigh daily but I'm finding I put a lot of stock into the weekly one. Might not bother for a while, and just keep recording the daily weighs for my little graph.

AgathaMystery · 20/06/2024 20:24

@Everdecreasingcircumferences i love the term shrinking!!

Am in a stall too - at the same weight as you and the same starting & current BMI. I think I must up my exercise if I want to lose any more weight as my suppression is perfect.

12345abby · 20/06/2024 19:20

Any discount codes for 5mg?

I have a code for zava of thats any use? REFGE8EX gives 15% off

ObsidianTree · 20/06/2024 20:48

I have another mini goal. My husband currently weighs 13st 6lbs, I currently weigh 13st 9lbs... I need to get my weight lower than his for the first time in our 12 year relationship! Shouldn't take me too long 😁

Dear me, the gym was hard work this evening! Hopefully I’ll get a good sleep tonight 🤞

DragonflyRuby · 20/06/2024 22:18

Thank you @Slimstar13! I’m trying to work out whether it’s worth switching if they cut you off at bmi 25 (I’m currently 27.8) or whether to pay a bit more and get to bmi 22/23 on maintenance…

RagzRebooted · 20/06/2024 22:56

@ObsidianTree one of my goals is also being lighter than DH. I'm taller, so only really possible because he's not as light as he used to be (but not obese so no MJ for him!). He's currently 13 stone 10lbs, so I've got about a stone and a half to go! But he's said he's going to lose weight before I catch up. We shall see.

A colleague (who is also on MJ) kindly gave me a bag of clothes today as she's a size or two smaller and has slimmed out of them, so I've got some bits to keep me going. Means I don't have to buy a load of temporary clothes for the next few months which is hugely helpful.

chesterlestreet · 20/06/2024 23:02

@CiderJabs @Choux @Priority1234 I agree the tiredness is probably a combination of the meds and a low calorie diet and perhaps also slow digestion. Definitely the meds though as it's worse in day 2 and 3 each week. Managed some soup and peanuts for dinner so protein fine today but need to up veg/fruit tomorrow. Will experiment back down with either 6 or 6.25 next week

RagzRebooted · 20/06/2024 23:09

I also seem to be really tired on days 2 and 3. Eating more doesn't appear to help, so I'm thinking it's definitely the meds.

Choux · 20/06/2024 23:23

Last week I took the 10mg Thursday night. Was fine energy wise and was hungry on Friday. Saturday I was exhausted, didn't leave the house or do anything much at all.

On Sunday mid afternoon I literally felt the tiredness lift. I had tired spells on Monday and Tuesday in short waves but nothing like it had been all day on Saturday and Sunday morning.

Sunday was also the day I recorded my lowest weight of the week.

ObsidianTree · 21/06/2024 06:17

Lol my husband also decided he was going to lose weight when I mentioned I was catching him up! But he's taller than me so he shouldn't really lose much more weight! He did keto with me in 2020 as he was bigger then. He did really well and lost loads of weight but I couldn't quite catch him up then either! He's managed to mostly maintain his weight loss from the first time!
