Continuing Mounjaro...part 13

ObsidianTree · 14/06/2024 11:31

Please note: Mounjaro will only be be prescribed initially if your BMI is above 30 until you get to a healthy BMI of 23 to BMI 25

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after that a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
https://medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein

https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

11 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), psylum husks(fibre for constipation), electrolytes.

12 - Drink lots of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

13 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

14 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

15 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

16 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

Please could someone tell me, is the Zava 15% referal code only able to be used on your first order?

InstagramIsMounjaroJourneyUK · 20/06/2024 13:09

@Upinthenightagain
It's great to hear your experience of a tummy tuck. I've always said I wouldn't have surgery that was for vanity but I hate my hanging tummy so much I've really considered a TT lately. So much of the info never touches on any downsides and you've given me huge food for thought.

@Nicmox I recommend Psyllium Husk capsules. Colon Cleanse(Aloe Vera blend) from H&B did nothing for me and Dulcolax had me laid on the bathroom floor thinking I had a serious blockage and was going to pass out. Thankfully I did get a movement after 2 hours of hell, even vomiting some bile up from feeling so weak and I laid on the floor wondering how I would get help as I couldn't muster the energy to shout and didn't want to frightened my child who was closest - at one point, when I felt the urge to go I felt so weak i contemplated just messing where I was, embarassing to admit! So I 100% do not recommend Dulcolax but can say PH capsules have completely turned things around and I go at least once or twice a day most days, not loose or urgent so feels a healthy way to be!

Thanks , finally went to the loo. Maybe all the talk kicked my system into gear. I will remember your advice if it happens again.

I think you’re on week 18 - based on me starting 2 weeks after you.

You were one of the early pioneers!

Yep, I took my first injection 17 weeks 5 days ago.

Time flies, does it?

I have just done the maths based on that. Weight loss averages to 2.6lbs a week.

Buffypaws · 20/06/2024 15:13

ObsidianTree · 19/06/2024 11:35

I picked them because they looked easy to swallow! But turns out a got a good brand!

Turns out this is the brand I already have lol.
I have had them since way before mounjaro so i wonder if it was a mumsnet tip from another thread...

ThirdStorm · 20/06/2024 16:16

@Ghilliedu MedExpress have approved and sent my next pen. No emails for me. I hope you are now approved.

My pen arrived at lunch time so they must have been happy with my response! Can only think it’s to do with my lack of weight loss this month!

imnottoofussed · 20/06/2024 16:39

That's the thing if you do order it every two weeks to try and stockpile then they'll only see the weight loss difference of two weeks but they'll assume it's for a full month maybe and think it's not working for you?

I mean you could lie about your weight when ordering but have to keep track of what you've said. I'd be hopeless and drop myself in it somewhere along the line which is why I've been sticking to 4 week orders but I might change this when I get closer to target.

susiedaisy1912 · 20/06/2024 16:52

BellaCriesAndThatsAlright · 20/06/2024 14:48

Quick question. To those that struggled with the jump from 2.5mg to 5mg, how long before you felt better? I'm trying to avoid feeling shit for my holiday.

I could use my extra dose to make my last 2.5mg a 3.75 mgand then just to 5mg the following week.

If I use my extra dose as a normal 2.5mg then go straight to 5 I'm worried I'll spend my trip on the toilet.

I would say stay on the lower dose until after your holiday. Don't ruin the holiday over one dose of meds.

ThirdStorm · 20/06/2024 16:57

@imnottoofussed I'm getting closer to my goal and I'd like to keep taking MJ for at least 5 weeks after I reach my target, longer if possible so I can have a fighting chance at maintenance (historically that where I've failed every diet) so I'm going to order again in 2weeks. Thing is my BMI is very close to being 27 and I don't want to risk them deciding to cut me off (but I think MedExpress have said 25 so should be fine?).

thehousewiththesagegreensofa · 20/06/2024 17:06

@BellaCriesAndThatsAlright I think I'd just do an extra week on 2.5mg. I was quite ill going up to 3.75 and very ill on 5. I was very glad I was at home with my own bathroom & cleaning products and also a kitchen so that, when I felt well enough to eat, I could have exactly what I wanted

guestusername · 20/06/2024 17:08

If there was any doubt over the efficacy of my pen having gone up a bit yesterday, there certainly isn’t now! The exhaustion just hit me about 3.30 and I tried as hard as I could but I had to given in and have a quick 30 minute snooze 😂 i have not had to do that since week 2. I could really do with not going to the gym this evening but I’m taxi so it wouldn’t just be me not going 😔

chesterlestreet · 20/06/2024 18:31

I'm took my 3rd 7.5 on Tuesday morning. Appetite suppression is through the roof, struggling to eat anything at all and am exhausted, totally wiped out. Have had two hard boiled eggs and a clear whey drink with collagen today so have had 40g protein at least. Luckily on holiday so can go with the tiredness but considering going back down to 5 next week. Any long timers have a view?

How are you losing on 7.5mg?

Maybe go down to 50 clicks? 6.25mg?

Has anyone got the latest price comparison chart handy please?

I want to stay with the same supplier as I can't cope with the stress of stuff not arriving, etc but just want to check I'm not paying too much over the odds...

I just got a 5mg for £122 all in from Zava with this code. Which is the cheapest I've had since starting! Was really quick too.

There’s no better gift than the gift of good health. Use my code and you’ll get 15% off your first order at ZAVA: REFMFKKT

@ObsidianTree 6.25 is a good idea thank you. Definitely seem to be still losing although 10 days without scales. Might have to pop into a boots (in my lightest dress of course, would hate to see an increase)

Evening All

Jab day, 7.5mg, week 18, weight up 0.1kg since yesterday so the stall continues. 9kg lost, so half a kilo per week on average. Definitely on the lower end of the loss spectrum compared to most, but am hopeful when I go on to 10mg things will start changing again. I'm still really pleased to be sub 90kg, just really really want to shift my BMI below 30 (was 35, is now 32).

NSV my new senior manager - just getting to know her, seems a nice lady - leaned towards me today and asked if I was shrinking, because it looked like I was shrinking. That's the first time anyone other than a close friend has mentioned it. As it happens I've only lost about 1.5kg since she first met me but I reckon I'm shrinking in size a little despite the stall.

I ate crisps yesterday, not loads but certainly a portion. Am definitely not feeling as much suppression as I was hoping for on 7.5mg, but then I hadn't prioritised protein well yesterday and made the error of having toast at breakfast instead of yoghurt with berries.
Had protein drink for breakfast today, then lunch from Itsu on the go so went for soup instead of the noodles I really fancied. Was really yummy.
I've a packet of sweets in my bag that I bought for a colleague, my mind keeps being drawn to them but I am not going to cave. Have cherries at home waiting for me as a treat instead t absolutely favourite). Loving the good MJ is bringing to my life, I would not be shrinking without it.

muffinmum91 · 20/06/2024 18:51

I've used Saxenda and Ozempic in the past. Saxenda stopped working for me very quickly and Ozempic made me sick as a dog. Is it worth me trying Mounjaro?

Everdecreasingcircumferences · 20/06/2024 18:55

@muffinmum91 Saxenda only shifted 4kg for me, Wegovy did nothing at all. MJ is working so far for me, albeit I am a slow responder compared to most on here.

Thank you for the help! Did any of them make you feel too sick or exhausted to work? Thats my worry

Buffypaws · 20/06/2024 18:58

Saxenda also didn’t work for me for long. I only lost half a stone. I have lost two now from Wegovy and Mounjaro. I found Wegovy made me want to eat shite though 😂

Everdecreasingcircumferences · 20/06/2024 19:02

@muffinmum91 I was exhausted on Sax, wegovy nothing, MJ I get a bit cold and I probably am generally more tired so struggling to exercise much beyond a bit of weights and walking, but not completely exhausted.

My first 7.5mg suppressed my appetite so much I couldn't live normally. I was about to go on holiday so did two 6s while off work and then went back to 7.5 before doing the 3 mg leftovers to street me on a couple of days and then the bonus dose which was prob close to 9mg. That worked for me.

My first 10mg dose then floored me again - no appetite and so tired. Am hoping the effects of the second 10 will be less intense. The first day I took 2.5mg I couldn't understand why anyone needed higher doses as the appetite suppressant was so good but it seems my body gets used to it pretty quickly.
