Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Another reason to not use MedExpress! I won't use their needles again and will probably throw theirs away!

I have found that I'm just able to eat normally, but not really diet if that makes sense? So I might end up maintaining this week. It could be onset of period too, but I did find I had a rather large drop of meds on my stomach when I took it out (it was definitely in the skin properly), which hasnt happened with the novofine needles. The pen did judder near the end of injecting too, and I'm itchy around the injection site this week. It was definitely different.

I will report back if my appetite does dip. Weird things do happen on this drug and I'm hormonal this week, so that might be making the effect vary.

I'm still getting alternative needles I am going to continue. Can't find Novofine anywhere 😫

Med express responded to my price guarantee question

Lol useful as a chocolate teapot then!

Their needles are unusable and people don't need a sharp box each time! I have 3 sharp boxes now!

I noticed when looking at the family chemist last night there was a 15% off if you 'subscribed'. That seemed to mean giving them your email and I don't know if it is a discount on injectables but worth looking into.

I looked into that a while back. It doesn't include weight loss medication!

Well, I think something went a bit wrong with those shitty med ex needles (some meds leaked out of injection site after injecting). Very little suppression on 4th 7.5mg and 2 days since injecting. I am waiting for the eggy burps and they are not coming! They are amost reassuring now. Noticeably less supression from last week. I'm not using med ex needles again - they are shit. Are the Carepoint 32g 4mm any good?

I think I am going to move onto 10mg and then titrate down, as scales haven't shifted this week and will order another 7.5mg pen for emergencies in case of rapid gain.

I had this problem with a leak from the injection site on my 2nd dose with a noticeably reduced suppression. I'm not sure it's the needles, it seems to be fluid flowing back along the needle track as its withdrawn. I did a lot of research online and found that it's a known thing - can find comments on US threads about it. This is what I took from my reading, and I haven't had a leak since:

Don't swab injection site, or if you do make sure it's completely dry before injecting
Pinch a fold to inject, insert needle, then release the pinch and push plunger into relaxed not compressed flesh
Hold the needle immobile for 45 secs to a minute before withdrawal
Withdraw needle slowly

NoMoreCoffeePlease · 05/06/2024 12:45

For what it's worth, my experience with the Family Chemist is very positive so far.

Strange that Bolt don't seem to be on there, aren't they cheapest for 2.5mg?

Oh yes. I didn't notice that. Yes I think they are cheapest for 2.5mg, but price goes quite high after that!

montysma1 · 05/06/2024 12:47

@ObsidianTree plus needles aren't expensive. I bought about a gazillion of good ones for under a tenner for Ozempic and they fit the MJ pen. I will still have spare needles when I am 100 years old!

They are hardly being generous supplying needle which cost them fractions of a penny!

ObsidianTree · 05/06/2024 12:45

I checked out Click pharmacy as that seemed cheap for higher doses but the prices I saw were higher, maybe there's a code somewhere.

Soukmyfalafel · 05/06/2024 12:50

@DesparatePragmatist thanks that is really helpful. Perhaps it was user error, rather than the needles after all. I have less flab to inject into now thanks to the meds, so it might be that.

dmott · 05/06/2024 12:53

@ObsidianTree
It's not even cheaper when you add those costs.

Just had a look. They are same prices as others now anyway

ObsidianTree · 05/06/2024 12:55

Found a click pharmacy too and they are expensive.

The previous one was click2pharmacy! So many new ones!

Fantastic problem to have! I look forward to having less flab to inject into too 😊

I think I have made a similar error this week too, which I am a bit gutted about as I was so enjoying not thinking about food all the time!

Soukmyfalafel · 05/06/2024 13:25

Yes I feel the same. I'm not looking forward to having food noise back. It really has felt like less of a drag on my mind, particularly the 'you shouldn't have eaten that' and the 'why haven't you gone to the gym today' guilt. I guess not being obese anymore makes it easier, but I think it will be replaced by 'you need to maintain' guilt.

Zilla1 · 05/06/2024 13:26

Apologies have not read the thread(s) but does anyone have experiences of moving from Ozempic/Semaglutide to Mounjaro?

Due my first pen from med express. This is a good reminder to buy some alternative needles ! (I have read previous threads so wanted spares for bonus dose + also saw that med express needles not great)

So I have ordered some care point ones linked elsewhere!

CiderJabs · 05/06/2024 13:38

I took my jab on Monday. Yesterday afternoon I was ravenous and started to worry it was not working. Then I sat down to eat and left 1/3 of the food on the plate. It felt like I was going to explode.
My weight hasn't moved in a few days but I've been horribly constipated again so maybe I'm just full of shit 😂😂😂

Yes me. They have cancelled my HRT 🤷🏻‍♀️.
I checked for a letter a few weeks back but couldn’t see one. Will check again tonight.

That's a bit worrying. I definitely cannot do without my HRT!
I've only ordered with Voy so far and they did not ask any details about my Dr.

Btrsun10 · 05/06/2024 14:16

Are there any suppliers apart from Voy that do not inform your DR?

AgathaMystery · 05/06/2024 14:27

Btrsun10 · 05/06/2024 14:16

Are there any suppliers apart from Voy that do not inform your DR?

I know that some people don’t want their GP to know about these meds - but…. And this is not directed at you PP…

Think very carefully about a supplier that actively does not inform your GP. None of these companies are supplying this drug for altruistic reasons. They are making mega money. By not informing your GP they save significant admin time, thus keep more profit.

The only looser or person at risk for your GP not knowing is you. Yes, it is annoying when rpt Rx are cancelled - mine was because I needed a BP review. It was sorted out in 20 mins.

These drugs don’t work in isolation.

Wonkypictureframe · 05/06/2024 14:31

I want my GP to know I’ve taken this. Partly because I really want any treatment from them to take into account any issues that MJ might cause that I wouldn’t be aware of, and partly because it will be helpful if I’m trying to get a referral to an endocrinologist to be able to point out what I needed to do to lose weight.
