Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

And it will be helpful if at some point it is prescribed by the NHS or if we do need it again in the future.

Mencia · 05/06/2024 14:41

Is this a very odd side effect?

A few weeks ago I started noticing “movement” while at home. As if the house trembles, vibrates… Nobody notices this or, if someone does, I’m told it has been like this all the time (central London, tube, traffic, etc.). I’ve been asking around but I’m being told that maybe I’m extra sensible. I’m working at one office out of London today and also noticing this. I’ve realised I started noticing this around the time I started MJ.

Could this hyper sensibility be due to MJ? Or am I getting mad? DH says not to worry, the house isn’t falling down.

Soukmyfalafel · 05/06/2024 12:21

Well, I think something went a bit wrong with those shitty med ex needles (some meds leaked out of injection site after injecting). Very little suppression on 4th 7.5mg and 2 days since injecting. I am waiting for the eggy burps and they are not coming! They are amost reassuring now. Noticeably less supression from last week. I'm not using med ex needles again - they are shit. Are the Carepoint 32g 4mm any good?

I think I am going to move onto 10mg and then titrate down, as scales haven't shifted this week and will order another 7.5mg pen for emergencies in case of rapid gain.

That’s so weird - all morning I’ve been (quietly) burping and wondering why they taste of eggs when I’ve not eaten any.

I had my 1st 5mg dose yesterday - is this why?!

NCfor24 · 05/06/2024 15:12

@Pinkbendyman yes! Eggy sulphur burps seem to be a common side effect. I've had it very mildly and only twice - after both my 7.5mg doses. I didn't have any earlier. But if you've just gone up a dose then that could be what's causing them!

Pinkbendyman · 05/06/2024 15:24

@NCfor24 mystery solved - thank you!

ihatecoffee · 05/06/2024 16:31

Post menopausal here for 10 years. HRT for 9 years.
Was on Ozempic last year and had spotting throughout the time I was on the jab. Was checked out and all was fine.

Roll forward a year and 9 weeks into Mounjaro.
Had spotting on and off over the last few weeks as per the Ozempic, but today have had a big bleed! Feel full on period cramps and bloating too!
Has anyone else had any similar problems?

lemonpot · 05/06/2024 16:36

Hi everyone ! Can someone help me please ?

I've slowly moved up to nearly 5 mg a week now.

Last week I did 50 clicks of the 5 mg pen. The suppression was amazing for the first 3 days. Very strong, maybe a bit too strong.

However since day 4, there's been very little suppression. I've found that with all my doses so far. The first 3 days is great and after that, not so much anymore.

Is there a way to make it last longer ? Or are some people doing split dosing during the week ?

Thanks !

Yes I've had it a lot. Started half way through 5mg and I'm on 7.5mg now 4th dose. This is the first week I haven't had it.ive come to find it reassuring that the medication is working as I haven't had much effect this week.

Unfortunately this does tend to happen.

I think some Americans split their doses and take it every 3/4 days. You would need extra needles to do this tho.

I think the suppression lasts longer the higher the dose you are on. Maybe not the full 7 days, but 5/6 days feeling suppressed etc

ObsidianTree · 05/06/2024 17:14

Been eating my dinner and feeling like I'm struggling to swallow and it hurts a bit. Like it's tender or something. This isn't the first time I've felt this. Does anyone else get this?

Yes, I'm experiencing the same. Took 3.75mg on Friday and the next three days had full on suppression and, as you say, almost too much. Then yesterday, bam, all effects gone! So I'm going to continue splitting doses every 3/4 days I think.

lemonpot · 05/06/2024 17:21

@Madferitchick so how exactly do you split the dose ? Do you do it twice a week ? 3 days apart ?

eee4 · 05/06/2024 17:47

Has anyone ordered from Cloud Pharmacy? I’ve received the pen but it appears to have gone out of date at the end of May. I’ve been trying to contact them since last week and not getting any response. Tried Email, online forms, messages on the dashboard and several phone calls with voice messages left. So frustrating, it’s a lot of money and you all seem to be doing very well on it.

imnottoofussed · 05/06/2024 17:49

Some of them had their expiry dates extended if you check back through the thread there's a list of batch numbers somewhere.

imnottoofussed · 05/06/2024 17:50

Google tells me its batch number Batch D712074 but someone else might have the screenshot

imnottoofussed · 05/06/2024 17:51

Also these https://www.prescriptiondoctor.com/assets/img/Mounjaro%20Extendedd_Date.pdf

eee4 · 05/06/2024 17:52

Thats the batch number, thanks everyone.

lemonpot · 05/06/2024 17:21

@Madferitchick so how exactly do you split the dose ? Do you do it twice a week ? 3 days apart ?

Trial and error so far...I did my final 2.5 and then 4 days later did a 3.75 but having thought about it, I think I'm going to go back to 2.5 and inject on Thursday and Sunday and see how that goes so I'm getting 5mg total in a week.

Any reason why you haven’t just moved up to 5mg? I know a few people have found the jump a bit challenging but many of us haven’t. The doses have been planned on the regime they sell so is it worth giving it a go, if under-dosing isn’t hitting the mark?

lemonpot · 05/06/2024 18:21

@Wonkypictureframe the only reason I didn't move straight up to 5, was because when I did the equivalent on Wegovy last year, I got really sick.

I've not had any issues with MJ so far, no side effects really.

Flapearedknave · 05/06/2024 10:22

I definitely need to stay on 7.5, my coffee and 200ml water has filled me up to the point of coughing and almost vomiting :/

Well done on today's losses everyone, and any stallers, keep on in there!

It is very interesting to hear ozempic is £3 to make... price likely wont come down until after the patent runs out which i think is 2030?

Patent off on saxenda is by end of this year I believe … will be interesting to see what happens

@lurkylurk @Buffypaws
Isn't it sad?
Judging ourselves against some ideal, when we actually looked fine. And the resultant self esteem issues which are probably at least part of how we have all ended up here.

Youth is definitely wasted on the young!

My mum used to say it to me and now I say it all the bloody time

Choux · 05/06/2024 18:54

Asda's website is now saying they have 12.5mg IN stock.

Eyesofmistyblue · 05/06/2024 19:04

Can anyone recommend something for constipation? The first few weeks I had diarrhoea a lot which was actually preferable as it wasn’t painful and I felt it was quite cleansing 😂 but now I feel very backed up and not seeing much weight change this week.

lurkylurk · 05/06/2024 19:12

@ObsidianTree

Could be caused by acid reflux? I've had a bit of heartburn for the last year or so (apparently it's yet another of those lovely perimenopausal/menopausal things), never had it before even when pregnant etc. and Mounjaro has made it really bad at times, to the point where it's sort of burnt the lower part of my oesophagus, and that can make swallowing feel a bit tender for me.

Still trying to find a solution, cold milk helps temporarily, Gaviscon helps a bit, Osemaprozole handled it entirely but gave me really bad wind (like wake you up in the night type!). If anyone has any other suggestions?
