Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Agree with others about feeling much calmer since being on MJ. My phobia of spiders seems to have changed as well. I have been absolutely terrified of them all my life but recently I'm feeling much less anxious about them. I still dont like them but the absolute fear and anxiety about them seems to have faded.

Soukmyfalafel · 03/06/2024 09:28

Hello everyone. Haven't been on here for a while. Bloody hell the threads fill up quick.

Just wondering if anyone has an exit strategy from MJ and what it is? I'm near the end of my MJ journey, but not sure what to do. I have a 10mg in the fridge unopened and am down to bonus dose of 7.5 after taking 4th today, which is still working fine on me. I have about 4lbs left to lose (although disappointingly, I still have a bit of belly fat I'm not sure I can get rid of). I'm also starting to get period bloat, so don't really know where I am with weight.

I don't think I can lose 4lbs in two weeks, but at the same time want to keep a pen incase of rapid gain. I will ultimately end up wasting a lot of the 10mg pen whether I use it now or keep it incase of future gain as I will have to go back to 2.5mg. I'm thinking just keep the 10mg if I start to pile on again? Not sure what to do really.

I really haven't timed this well and was a prat for ordering 10mg when I didn't have much left to lose.

AgathaMystery · 03/06/2024 10:31

A NSV & a scale victory today.

NSV (I try to find one each day) is my wedding ring is loose. Not too loose but it’s not tight at all. I took a picture but you can’t really tell it so never mind.

Scale victory is:
SW 89.5kg / 197.3lb
CW 78.9kg / 173.9lb
GW 60kg / 132lb

I’m 10.6kg down after 11 weeks which is life changing for me. I went to an investigators meeting hosted by Roy Taylor (fast 800 guru) & he found that once people cross the 10kg weight loss barrier it is is really significant as an indicator of future weight maintenance. Something changes for us emotionally after 10kg & more so after 14kg that means we are far more likely to keep the weight off.

I don’t know if it’s been published yet - possibly not as it was only a year or so ago. Anyway - I was super motivated to hit 10kg so I’m pleased. My next goal is 14kg off.

I'm a lot further from target as had 6.5 stone to lose when I started. Ive been thinking a lot about it though. I think I will go back down the doses as I get close to target ao hopefully I'm doing the last few lb on 2.5 to learn to live normally and then a bit of stockpiling so I can do a couple of months at target on 2.5

montysma1 · 03/06/2024 10:36

@Soukmyfalafel So are you I tendi g to stop at 25bmi then? Is that what you mean?
Would you not try for 23bmi to give you wriggle room and use the pens for that?
I hit my target last week but have reset it for another stone, to hit 23.

FlappyFish · 03/06/2024 10:37

@AgathaMystery That makes total sense to me. As I’m down so much my previous weight seems so much higher. It feels a lot more manageable to be in maintenance as I weigh daily anyway. I can easily keep an eye and make adjustments. Plus because I’ve been in MJ mode the thought of pizza etc does nothing for me.

@Soukmyfalafel I am similar. I want to lose 6 more pounds and then try and maintain. That puts me slap bang at 10.7. I have two 7.5 unopened and 3 doses left of 5. I am going to start slowly reducing. Yes, my pens will be open longer but I’ve read and it’s a risk I’m willing to take. I have plenty of needles to attach or extract.

I have belly fat and thigh fat. Now it’s going to be more about exercise and toning.

Does anyone have a med express code that works for June? I need to order the 10mg and it is coming out as £194 inc postage 😱😱

R4ch402 · 03/06/2024 11:40

Coming to the end of week 4 of 7.5mg. Definitely feel like I'm ready for 10mg, food noise has come back drastically

NoMoreCoffeePlease · 03/06/2024 11:47

Today it's been exactly 2 months for me since I started on Mounjaro. I have gone from a BMI of around 28 (and high blood pressure/heart patient) to around 24.5. I went from 2.5mg (no bonus dose) to 5mg, and then 7.5mg, where I imagine I'll stay until I drop to a BMI of 23 or thereabouts. I have had zero side effects. Despite working out daily, I still have a lot of subcutaneous fat to lose, unfortunately.

I have no idea what my prescriber (family chemist) will do after that. I do feel that once I'm done 'losing weight/fat' -- I want to build muscle, and will need to eat more than I can currently face. So a lower maintenance dose that doesn't quite have the same hunger reduction but still has some would be my ideal.

I’ve stalled this week and I’m feeling pretty low atm because I really struggled to eat more than 1000 calories per day, drank a lot of water, maxxed the protein intake, etc. No tofm or constipation. What else do I need to do?

I think I'm at one of those stall points and I hope things move soon! I so want to be in the 13s which will be my lowest weight in 10 years and 14st is a barrier I've got to before but couldn't get past. Official week weigh day tomorrow but this is how the last week has gone (see pic)

Scroll on if youre not interested in constipation chat 😆

I was so constipated that I took a Dulcolax on Friday night. They've gone in the bin as they kicked in the next morning but took so long to produce anything from the start of feeling the cramps that I was soaked with sweat and then needing to lay on bathroom floor from feeling like I would vomit and actually throwing up a little bile (empty stomach probably made me worse) and I began to fear I had a blockage. Relief came after 2 hours of hell and I did see 13st13 afterwards but knew it would be short lived do didn't record it.

H&B colon cleanse has been useless so taking delivery of Pyslium Husk tablets today. I do feel ready to 'go' again but nothing happens when I try other than a 'puff of air' so hoping these create regularity again!

Upping to 7.5mg this week so need to have toilet issues in check!

It's also been my period week so will be keeping an eye on whether constipation is worse at this time.

Edited

I’m with you on throwing away the dulcolax, such bad nausea and horrendous cramps. I’m also going to try PH and have seen others say about aloe Vera. Prune juice did nothing and was disgustingly sweet!

Hi all

maths is not my strong point, just checking to see if I’ve worked this out right:

to get 3.75 of a 5mg dose is 45 clicks

I’m due to move up to 5mg on Thursday, I’ve had no appetite suppression at all on 2.5 after the first few days but no side effects either. I took my bonus dose (week 5) 3 days early but still nothing. I was going to bring my 5mg dose forward to today but I’ve got a busy week at work so to play it safe decided & try 3.75 to be on the safe side.

I’m actually starting to wonder if I’m one of the few this won’t work for as I was on Wegovy for 3 months with no results either 😟 I’m menopausal and can’t exercise or move much at all due to a disability so my BMR is extremely low and I just can’t restrict that much long term using will power alone, I’m hoping and praying that the appetite suppression kicks in on the higher doses 🤞🤞🤞

This is one of my fav quick lunches. Not sure if this is classed as UPF, it feels quite healthy. it’s tasty, filling, low cal with 5.2g of protein. I quite often have some chicken with it for extra protein but I don’t have the appetite today.

Hi all, I see a lot of us are switching to Zava. Does anybody know what their BMI cut off point is? I would message and ask but they've just resolved my complaint so don't want to bug them again yet 😆
I'm still only in week 3 so probably shouldn't be thinking about these things yet.
