Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

I did just last week as I felt that 2.5mg strength hadn't given me any adverse side effects and felt confident enough to get going onto 5.
I did both shots with clean separate needles on the same leg but obviously a space apart. I got a really strong bout of suppression/nausea (but not unlike that first wave that I got at the beginning) and quite a bad headache for a couple of days but I just kept my fluids and calories/protein up with some clear whey shakes and as of today the headaches gone and nausea has eased x

Great thanks for sharing!

how did you find accessing the bonus dose? I mentioned pliers to my dh and he thinks I’m being insane 😂

wonderingwhatsnext · 03/06/2024 06:32

@Sassenach85 the first month I tried the hard twist method to move up to 5mg a week early. It was fine but I didn't like the fact I didn't know how much of actually taken. The second month I ordered the syringes suggested in the op and used one for a week 5 bonus. I much prefer the stinger method even though it sounds more scary, it wasn't at all.
I'm a slow moving sheep and have finally taken receipt of the scales that were previously recommended. They weigh me a pound heavier than the old ones. I know, I know, it's no big deal but I might have had a mini toddler strop!

Madferitchick · 03/06/2024 06:57

Morning ladies (and gents if we have any here!?)

End of week 4 for me, I'm 0.25 of a pound away from having lost a stone. Pleased with that - although must admit that 0.25 is annoying 🤣🤣

I've moved up to 3.75 and the suppression is good and my portion sizes are much reduced.

Hope everyone has a good week!

MsClittirati · 03/06/2024 07:22

Good morning . Can I ask if you inject morning or evening ?

I have done morning injections and felt a bit under the weather last week the for day so am thinking of switching to evening. It will mean 12 hours early which I have read is fine.

Does it make a difference to side effects do you think ?

I have had zero side effects apart from that 1 day of feeling a bit ‘off’ so it could have been a coincidence.

thehousewiththesagegreensofa · 03/06/2024 07:27

Morning
End of week 6 here having used the bonus dose of about 3ml and then a dose of 3.75ml. Another pound off making it 7lbs in total. After significantly more appetite suppression and 24 hours of D&V this week, I had expected more (and was showing more for the past three days) and laughed when I got on the scales this morning and it had bounced up again. My body just likes hanging onto this weight!
Dilemma this evening is whether to stick to 3.75ml again or increase to 5. Given the side effects I had last week and that I have a busy week ahead, I think I'll stick to 3.75
I hope others have successful weigh days today!

Nooneknowsbutme · 03/06/2024 07:36

Ewwwww caught sight of my inner thighs this morning, and they've turned to baggy, wrinkled flaps of jelly 🤢
I walk regularly, thinking I need to up the exercise...
I've lost 2 stone in 10 weeks, and still have a stone to go...
Has anyone experienced this? Any chance it will improve?

Wonkypictureframe · 03/06/2024 07:45

I’ve got the same. Let’s hope it improves!

I am 2.5lbs heavier this morning than yesterday. There’s no reason at all for this. I’m sure it’ll drop off again tomorrow but I’ve been stalled for almost a fortnight so this does feel annoying!

FastGoose · 03/06/2024 07:47

Sassenach85 · 03/06/2024 06:24

I tried forcing it by hand, as did other half but not enough grip/power to twist. Then I used rubber gloves 😂😂

MeAndMounjaro · 03/06/2024 08:08

I think I'm at one of those stall points and I hope things move soon! I so want to be in the 13s which will be my lowest weight in 10 years and 14st is a barrier I've got to before but couldn't get past. Official week weigh day tomorrow but this is how the last week has gone (see pic)

Scroll on if youre not interested in constipation chat 😆

I was so constipated that I took a Dulcolax on Friday night. They've gone in the bin as they kicked in the next morning but took so long to produce anything from the start of feeling the cramps that I was soaked with sweat and then needing to lay on bathroom floor from feeling like I would vomit and actually throwing up a little bile (empty stomach probably made me worse) and I began to fear I had a blockage. Relief came after 2 hours of hell and I did see 13st13 afterwards but knew it would be short lived do didn't record it.

H&B colon cleanse has been useless so taking delivery of Pyslium Husk tablets today. I do feel ready to 'go' again but nothing happens when I try other than a 'puff of air' so hoping these create regularity again!

Upping to 7.5mg this week so need to have toilet issues in check!

It's also been my period week so will be keeping an eye on whether constipation is worse at this time.

ThirdStorm · 03/06/2024 08:11

@Sassenach85 I used pliers too. I've kept them with my sharps box for next time!

BlackFriYay · 03/06/2024 08:13

I don't do many weight check ins here as things had slowed down after my bigger losses at the start but I've lost 3lb this week which I'm really happy about 🙂

I'm now 11 st 2lbs, with 1st 13 lbs to go to my goal weight of 9st 3lbs.

I've gone from BMI 34 to BMI 28.7

Thank you those of you who reccomended nutricheck, it's so much easier to keep track of my losses as it converts it so simply (after my meltdown the other week when different sites were giving me different calculations!). I've bought the paid for version.

Congratulations on all of your losses, keep up the good work and if you stall.. don't worry. The scales will move again.

AgathaMystery · 03/06/2024 08:18

@GloriaBunniford everything you’ve written makes total sense - and remember, you won’t hit a therapeutic dose for another 2 months.

I have gone for fear of the scales to just viewing them as a tool. My husband weighs daily and I could never, ever get my head round it but now I just do it because I realise there are fluctuations all day. I don’t record the gains anymore either. Just plateau and loss.

I can really resonate with the quiet mind - mine is fairly quiet too. I’ve never known anything like it TBH. It’s so weird.

I too am fascinated with the side effects of these drugs - which I don’t even think are side effects but direct effects of the action of these medications. I’ve spent most of my career in the endocrine/pregnancy/obesity field and i’ve never seen anything like it.

Has anyone adopted a sort of set way of eating to save themselves figuring out what to eat every day? One of the pleasures of life before was thinking of what to eat at my next meal but now I am finding it stressful. I'm considering just having fruit and yoghurt for breakfast and soup for lunch every day and then I'll just have dinner to plan.

I try to do this - I read about it when I followed the No S Diet - He calls it ‘intelligent dietary defaults’. Essentially thinking once about something healthy and easy to have when you are in a rush.

I have fruit and yoghurt for breakfast and try to batch cook a lentil and veg concoction every week to have with chicken or salmon for lunches. That one is only easy when I have done the batch cooking.

I do this. For first few weeks I had an Aldi protein yogurt & berries and homemade veg/lentil/chicken soup. Very few symptoms I think the repeated meals helped.

I couldn't twist it by hand so I used my teeth t (no needle on)!! I got one full dose out of my 5mg pen. There was a bit left over but I didn't take that as I wasn't sure how much I'd be getting then x

Yes I do this. My general rule is protein + veg/fruit at each meal. So breakfast is usually fruit plus high protein yoghurt or scrambled eggs with grilled tomato, lunch a tuna salad or a soup with lentils/chickpeas, dinner chicken with stir fried veg for example. I’m struggling to think about food so it’s easier to have a set formula as otherwise I’d end up skipping meals and dropping the weight too quickly.

Hope everyone’s had a lovely weekend in the sunshine!

I’ve had a terrible on/off headache all weekend (days 2/3). No other side effects so I suppose I’m fairly lucky but any advice on how to deal with the headache? It’s like to a hormonal headache, 🤕 I’d been getting similar for several days a month before I went on HRT. Really hoping it will go away as it’s a pretty debilitating throb behind my eyes which makes computer work very challenging.

I’ve been drinking 3 litres plus but only managing about 1000 cals, 80 gr of protein. Even that feels like I’m eating loads

Not my thighs but my bum looks a bit sad and saggy. Of course I've lost weight from my already relatively flat and non peachy bum and not my sizeable tum/apron. I have vowed to do lots of squats going forwards.

FutureFeelsBleak · 03/06/2024 08:55

I decided to stick to 2.5 for a second month, which was a mistake and I should have moved up instead. Feeling a lot of the noise returning. But am away next weekend when I am due to go to 5, so will do the intermediate 3.75 instead and hope for the best.

On constipation - prunes are your friend. I have a couple first thing, cold from the fridge, then half a glass of juice when I get in from work in the evening. It's not something to look forward to (the first brand I tried was rank) but I now have 'benefit juice cleanse' which is bearable.

susiedaisy1912 · 03/06/2024 09:00

I stuck with 2.5mg for 8 weeks as I didn't feel ready to move up a dose after just 4 weeks. But the food noise and my appetite did return during week 6, it was a struggle to stay focused. I got around it a bit by injecting every 5 days instead of 7 for the last 2 weeks.

Ghilliedu · 03/06/2024 09:11

anyone good with numbers? After being absolutely ill when trying 3.75 and again when I tried 3.25 I decided to inject 3mg on Saturday. Went for my thigh as I know it usually means less symptoms but I feel nothing. Absolutely no suppression. I’m so frustrated with the whole situation

maybe I should have gone for tummy but I have a busy week and couldn’t afford to be sick. I think I’m going to try a split dose and inject again on Thursday but how much should I go for? I’ve had a play around with that plotter site but I can’t work it out - there’s a reason I work with words, not numbers!

ClonedSquare · 03/06/2024 09:11

Did my one month weigh in today and it's 12.5lbs off total for the first pen. Absolutely amazed by that. It was a stone but I had a weekend away this weekend so all meals were in restaurants. Had a heavy and late meal last night so suspect the scales might be kinder tomorrow!

Moved up to 5mg last night and no issues so far. I didn't have any bad side effects on 2.5 and that's the same now. Appetite suppression was still pretty good on 2.5 as well so not noticing a massive change there/

Yes I do this on work days as it's easier. My days off I am more flexible.
