Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

@FlappyFish
I am 5ft 5ib, so 150lb took me to BMI 25, and today I hit 148.8.lb and 24.8bmi.

I am going to aim for 138lb, which will take me to 23 BMI as well as giving me the utter thrill of a weight starting in the 9 stone somethings! I think it will be harder as the loss is slowing down a bit now anyway .

I will reset the target on my app Tomo.
But just for today I want to enjoy the sight of Lbs till goal Zero, and Days till goal Zero!

Wonkypictureframe · 31/05/2024 14:03

@RagzRebooted I am far shorter than you!

Flapearedknave · 31/05/2024 14:21

Update on my loss

OW: 237lb/16.9s/107kg (05/23)
SW: 229lb/16.3s/103kg (03/24)
CW: 211lb/15.0s/95kg (05/24)

Can't believe I've hit 'onederland' in kg and I didn't even realise 😂 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼

Just been messing with the NHS BMI calculator and the heaviest for me to be healthy would be 11 stone. I feel too small at that weight, I have pictures of me from that weight and it was through an illness where I was delirious and hallucinating through inability to eat/drink.

I think I'll aim for 13 and see how I feel. That was the weight I last remember being happy with and feeling healthy.

It will be fine. If you read the leaflet it says you can change the injection day but should leave 4 days between doses. So you could do that injection two days late and then go back to your usual injection day 5 days later if you want.

The only potential downside is for two days you might eat a bit more than you would if you had down the injection as per usual.

Are there any suppliers who don’t insist on informing GP ? I have kidney disease and understand the risks involved

Not sure but the GP cannot stop you using it. They might want to check you know the risks or even offer you more testing to check your kidneys are doing ok. But that would be a good thing.

There was also an article a couple of weeks ago about Mounjaro being good for kidney function. Did you see that?

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 31/05/2024 14:38

@RagzRebooted don't be too down about it, it took a 2 stone loss for me to drop my first dress size. I went from a 20 to an 18. But the drop from 18 to 16 was very quick, so maybe you'll see the same.

Choux · 31/05/2024 14:40

Hi all, week 3 weigh in today, was feeling really depressed to see less than 1lb loss… however… when I looked in the app (I have withing scales that measure fat / muscle etc) and it shows my muscle has increased and body fat has actually come down over 4lb this week, so really, it’s just to say, don’t be disheartened if you see a small loss, you may still be losing actual fat!

Yes, I think I made the toilet roll analogy a few threads back, but the sizes do drop faster the smaller you get. Takes more when you're taller as well.
Like I said, I probably was a size 20 so I might have dropped a size, it's just those Primark shorts aren't very forgiving.
My work scrubs I have gone down from XL to large, which is nice.

did anyone order from Zava and how to get their referral disc code? do they accept if you want to purchase the 7.5 mg and pictures of previous pen is sufficient? Thanks!

I switched to Zava for my 2nd pen. I sent them the same pics I sent to ASDA for my 2.5mg pen and they approved it the same day I applied. My 15% code for Zava is REFKDB4G if you would like to use them

I've ordered this afternoon, I had to send the photos of full body and feet on scales in addition to my current pen. Once you click you are on Mounjaro it offered me up to 7.5 (I'm on 5) and then once you have ordered you get your code to share. If you need one to use mine is REFQ5UB3

GlueNoGlue · 31/05/2024 16:27

I missed my delivery today! Has anyone missed it before and had to collect the next day? I’m so annoyed, I was watching the tracking and it was supposed to be an hour away but I got a note saying they’d been and won’t deliver again until tomorrow. Will it be ok?

CiderJabs · 31/05/2024 16:28

@FlappyFish are you planning to use a pen for longer than 30 days? If so, how long for? This is the dilemma I'm in so hoping we can decide together :)))

Youdontevengohere · 31/05/2024 16:34

24 hours into my second dose and I’m absolutely FREEZING.

GreyFinch · 31/05/2024 17:02

Anyone have any delayed reactions to the 5mg increase? I was fine last week, took my 2nd dose on Tuesday evening and hadn’t felt 100% but today I’ve got a really bad migraine, sensitive skin and extreme nausea. I wonder if it’s a coincidence, although I haven’t had a migraine in a long time

Choux · 31/05/2024 17:06

I took my bonus dose from the 2.5mg pen 42 days after I started using the pen. It still worked and I had no side effects.

I think the 'throw the pen after 4 doses' and 'only use the pen for 30 days and then throw it away' are to protect their revenues. The medication won't suddenly become ineffective on Day 31 when it is in an airtight needle and has a 1 year shelf life unopened.

Nooneknowsbutme · 31/05/2024 17:15

@Youdontevengohere I'm on week 9 and find that lasts for the first 48 hours.
The weather at the moment isn't helping!!

RagzRebooted · 31/05/2024 17:18

@Choux I don't think Eli Lilly are overly concerned by lost revenue due to people extending their pens, they're making a fortune. I think it's more likely that they only bothered to do the stability testing for 30 days, because if being used correctly the pens would be open for 21 days and then thrown away. Why spend money on research that isn't needed?
I plan on using mine for as long as I want. The main risks are it loses effectiveness (unlikely and not harmful) or contamination of the medication from extra needle punctures (unlikely as I clean it each time, use a sterile needle and will keep it in the fridge but potentially harmful, however I'm taking that as an informed risk).

Nooneknowsbutme · 31/05/2024 17:18

Major NSV today
Week 9, started in tight size 14's, ordered a dress and the 12 was too big, ordered a 10 and it was perfect!!!
I am absolutely not a 10 yet, but..... I'll take this brands sizing!!!
Lost 26lb so far....

RagzRebooted · 31/05/2024 17:19

@Nooneknowsbutme congratulations! Fabulous NSV.

Yes it will be fine. It's packaged up really well and has cool packs around it.

LatinaLondon · 31/05/2024 17:28

Med Express! Ordered my pen today at 12:15pm and at 4:25pm I got an email saying my order is on the way and will arrive tomorrow. How come so quick!?
After hearing there are delays I ordered thinking I’ll get it Monday or Tuesday … I’m out most of the day tomorrow 🙈 and now I’m thinking if I miss it I won’t get it til Monday and won’t keep cold until then!

Choux · 31/05/2024 17:38

Not sure if they work but potential MedExpress discount codes.

I HAVE DONE IT!
There should be church bells ringing and fireworks!
After my body taking the piss all week and refusing to give up the last 0.4lb, I am finally under 25bmi!

Going to re set my target for 1 more stone!

Never thought I would see weight in the 140s again in this lifetime!
March 15th 182lb
Today 148.8lb.

(Last year did 204lb to 175lb on Ozempic.
2 years ago I was 221lb! So I am 73lb lighter since 2022!)

Edited

Great news! Well done!

ObsidianTree · 31/05/2024 17:48

I want to order a pen tomorrow. I don't need it, but want to see if the discount code in my basket still works for med Express!

If I order tomorrow, will it come Monday ish? Not back from hol until Sunday night, so don't want to risk ordering if it turns up Sunday!

Thanks all!
