Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

@Sye

Thank you! But my question was to @montysma1 😂

lurkylurk · 31/05/2024 10:30

@Sye

I realise it followed your post, the tag in my post tells you who it was directed to, just for future reference but thank you for answering anyhow.

lurkylurk · 31/05/2024 10:34

@TheOverweightFortySomething

Congrats! I also started a 16 (and still am!) and have a whole wardrobe of size 12s I look forward to fitting into (also size 10s but one step at a time, would be happy with 12 right now).

I'm sure you can make it the rest of the way.

lurkylurk · 31/05/2024 10:37

@lurkylurk

Was feeling despondent this morning as, now totm out of the way, have weighed and seem to have put on a pound (had lost just about 10 pounds, now back to 9 and it's a week later too). Was feeling gloomy and then put on a pair of jeans I hadn't worn in the last few days.

Did up the belt and then realised had done it up a notch tighter than previously. Measured and have lost another two thirds of an inch of my waist since last checked a week or so ago so that cheered me up!

RagzRebooted · 31/05/2024 10:54

@montysma1 amazing, well done!
@PissedOffNeighbour22 that's brilliant progress, you must be so pleased.
@lurkylurk I always get the tape out if I feel the scales are being mean!

Jealous of all those dropping dress sizes, despite losing 24lbs, I still can't wear the new shorts in bought in an 18 the other week. They do up, but they aren't comfortable to sit down in! I hadn't ever moved up to a size 20, but I probably was as I had a lot of stretchy 18s! Also was mostly wearing scrubs and joggers.
I think I'm about 10lbs off from not being obese any more though, so that's my target for end of June. I'm nearly down to the highest weight I was before my last big weight loss!

lurkylurk · 31/05/2024 10:58

@RagzRebooted

Ive got 3 pounds to go to not be obese, at the rate I’m going think that will take until the end of June too!!

Not a problem, only trying to help as many who are staring out and looking for how each and everyone experiences this rollercoaster differently😊
best of luck

Hey, I’ll sit in your corner with you! I’m very apple shaped with a flat chest (hold back, boys) so my weight distribution makes me a large size even at a relatively low weight on paper. Currently 11.7 and still firmly a size 18/16 trouser.

izzy2076 · 31/05/2024 11:34

Those who are hitting target weights: well done! Can you keep us posted on maintenance? Maybe there needs to be a maintenance thread

Slow losers: slow and steady wins the race. I'm a firm believer in losing weight slowly so you don't send your body into shock! I also think some food noise is good at reminding us that we are not infallible and we should also eat. I'm trying to see mounjaro as more of a binge stopper than an appetite suppressant.

Flapearedknave · 31/05/2024 11:53

Congrats to all on your losses, and 🎉🎊 to those who have reached 'overweight' and or your goals!

RagzRebooted · 31/05/2024 11:59

@Wonkypictureframe shall we sit and sulk together? Lol
I don't know how tall you are, but you're my target weight! I'm 5'10" and hourglass shaped (under the fat). Last time I was 11 and half stone I was a size 12. That's over 4 stone away for me though.
I just had a moan over on the 5 stone + thread and feeling a bit sorry for myself today!

DDisnotnormal · 31/05/2024 12:05

I've not posted for a while so thought I'd give an update. I injected my 9th dose on Wednesday. Managed to get the bonus dose - surprisingly easy if you use your teeth to twist it (obviously with no needle on!!!).

SW: 18 stone 12
CW: 17 stone 5.5
GW: Not sure yet

Think to be a healthy BMI I need to be 10 stone 10 (I'm 5ft 5) but looking back at pictures from my 20's I looked just fine at around 11 stone, though I always thought I was fat!!! I'm doing this more for health so not overly bothered about being a certain weight/dress size.

I've struggled a bit over the last few weeks. I've eaten over my calories and even binged (to a much lesser extent than before but definitely had the familiar out of control feeling whilst it happened). I know why I did it though and I feel strangely OK about it. After a traumatic 5 years I'm really trying to work on understanding myself and for the first time ever I think I'm making progress!

These threads are really helping to keep me going. Thank you all for sharing your experiences, the good, the bad and the ugly!!! I'm not usually a fan of mumsnet (and having read some of the other threads when I'm bored I realise why...so many judgemental perfect people!!!) but this one has being truly motivational and informative!

I'm currently eating around 1600 calories but often go a little over. I don't want to drop too low too soon as I have a lot to loose. I've not starting exercising yet but I'm trying to hit 10,000 steps a day. Next month I'd like to start introducing some weight bearing exercise, I'm thinking of getting some resistance bands - does anyone use them? Do they actually work? I've also got an exercise bike in the shed so think I'll start trying to do a bit on that x

LatinaLondon · 31/05/2024 12:12

Just to let you I sent a message to Med Express asking for a discount code as other places have lower prices with discount codes.
Their answer ⬇️

Continuing Mounjaro Thread 11
LatinaLondon · 31/05/2024 12:29

So annoying but I don’t want the hassle and risk of changing providers since my bmi is under 30.
If anyone wants to stay with them, they gave me this code: RK5ARP
It will give you £5 discount
I guess something is better than nothing.

GloriaBunniford · 31/05/2024 12:38

I've also just received an email from MedExpress telling me that they will no longer be doing discount codes on Mounjaro.
It's exactly the same email response as @LatinaLondon received above.

lurkylurk · 31/05/2024 12:41

Over on Reddit someone posted one that was still working for people I think yesterday TOPUPTEN

R4ch402 · 31/05/2024 12:44

For those who are considering swapping to Pharmacy2U, the codes below work:

UHRTUW - £30 off first order
TYBXQQ - 10% off
RM5U7U - 10% off 10mg

Not as good as the MedExpress discount codes but every little helps

LatinaLondon · 31/05/2024 12:53

lurkylurk · 31/05/2024 12:41

Over on Reddit someone posted one that was still working for people I think yesterday TOPUPTEN

No, I tried and it didn’t work.
I’ve just ordered my next pen and used the code for the £5 discount.

FlappyFish · 31/05/2024 12:54

I’ve spent a bit of timing thinking about end goal now.

I have been playing round with BMI and also thinking, laughably, about how much my boobs and skin will adjust.

I am going to aim to get to 10 stone 9. That gives me a BMI of 23.4. It also gives me enough leeway to manage mentally. I was hovering round 14 stone for about 3 years. Slipped under. Went up. Dieted back. It was my “I can manage this weight,” as it made a 16. My psychological safe place.

That means another half a stone loss.

I will then aim to maintain that and I have no doubt it will creep up without MJ suppressing me and stopping that “eat” noise.

I am going to take the next three weeks of 5 as normal and then start reducing down with clicks. It means a much slower return to an MJ less life.

Will keep updating here, obviously!

did anyone order from Zava and how to get their referral disc code? do they accept if you want to purchase the 7.5 mg and pictures of previous pen is sufficient? Thanks!

Wonkypictureframe · 31/05/2024 13:27

I’ve played fast and loose with my injection day with no issues. Two days is fine. I’m planning the same next week to accommodate a weekend away.

SevernWonders · 31/05/2024 13:40

This is such a lovely supportive thread. I have taken my first jab this week and hoping for the same success as others.

I am definitely making better choices around food mainly because I am not overwhelmed with the compulsion to keep forcing food inside me even though I am no longer hungry as I would have previously done. I said to DP that this must be how 'normal' people feel.

Mencia · 31/05/2024 13:41

If anyone is interested, a friend has swapped to the family chemist and the expiry date on the 5mg pen is September 2024.

mrsbyers · 31/05/2024 13:48

Are there any suppliers who don’t insist on informing GP ? I have kidney disease and understand the risks involved
